I go for my first follow up appointment on Monday! Yay! Can’t wait to eat different things! So far I’m having liquids, protein shakes, plain Greek yogurt and cream of wheat. Soup broths too. I used to dislike tomato soup and now I actually really like it. I can’t wait until I can eat tuna or chicken again! That’s still a while off.

Hi all! I am new to this group. I'm sure this question has been answered before but I just need some reassurance. I am 51 years old and had the gastric bypass on 3/5/18. As of today I have lost over 50 pounds in 6 weeks. A few weeks ago I tried eating the soft food stage. I tried cottage cheese, yogurt, canned tuna, soups, etc. I would eat and it would feel like it was stuck and then I would have a severe pain in my stomach. It felt like the food wasn't going down. I would then throw it back up. I saw my doctor and I had an upper GI done and minor surgery to widen my esophagus. That was 2 weeks ago. I am still having the same issue. I feel week, have headaches and have no energy. I want to starting exercising but am afraid that I will pass out. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks! Cindy S.

I bought way too much prepping for my surgery, wasted tons of money. The most critical things I needed were premade protein shakes. Premier Protein was my favorite, and seems to be the most popular on here. Protein20, protein water was good as well, it tastes good and helps you get both your protein and liquids in. Finally, Benefiber is great, it mixes into protein shakes or yogurt, soup, and you will be grateful for it!

HW: 236 SW: 214 (12/05/2017) GW: 140, CW: 172 I’m also 5’6”. My go to has always been chicken. Scrambled eggs, and salad are staying down. I experiment with different ingredients when I make smoothies. One and a half scoops of unflavored protein isolate powder. Cottage cheese is ok. I don’t really like yogurt. Protein bars. Salmon. Meals are always a guessing game. -
High Protein Snack Foods
Orchids&Dragons replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I appreciate all the tips! Unfortunately, I think I spoke too soon. Right now, my stomach isn't tolerating any protein other than liquid/yogurt without it feeling like I swallowed a handful of rocks -
I’m still having trouble with the 64 fluid ounces a day...I have a protein shake first thing in morning, a few hours later 1/2 or 3/4 of a Greek yogurt. A small lunch, snack, dinner and I finish my day with a sugar free pudding I’m in Philadelphia. I had my surgery 3/21 , I’m 4 weeks post op today, down about 33 pounds and experiencing alil stall currently.

Hi, I am 14 days post surgery, I had my first try at mashed potato and cheese for lunch yesterday. I could only manage a yogurt for tea as I was so full. Today I have a really bad stomach and have been sick about 8 time. My throat and esophagus is burning. I am not sure when I should panic and what I should do. I had my surgery done privately and so am not sure who to call for advice. Thanks for any thoughts you have. K

Hello I’m 10 days post op feeling pretty good but very hungry sticking to Greek yogurt and protein shakes and soup. How about you all?

Siggi's is my favorite brand Mango Jalapeno is my favorite when I can find it, followed by Orange Ginger and Coconut. Skyr is also the name for the style of yogurt. If you are looking to try new kinds of yogurt also look at the Noosa brand, their stuff is really good albeit not quite as protein dense as some others.

I can't remember who told me about Iceland Yogurt but I decided to give it a try today. Let me say that it tastes so much better than Greek Yogurt. Greek Yogurt had a funny aftertaste that I found disagreeable. If you want to try the Icelandic variety, the brand to look for is Skyr. It has less sugar and carbs than Greek and tastes pretty darn good. You can't beat that a serving size has 15g of protein.

Any April surgery buddies
Miss_Tee replied to Relle2190's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke with someone today. They told me to get the unflavored powder and sprinkle it in my egg white, yogurt, or applesauce. I'll try it tomorrow. Each day, a different issue, lol. Today its all about the sharp shooting pain near main incision. Feels like a lump above the incision. I went to work today and realize, I need another week at home.[emoji5] Show someone a little kindness each day~Miss Tee -

Bariatric surgery and restaurants

Any restaurant that serves soup is a bingo. We found a diner in Evanston that does a continental breakfast (Greek yogurt with strawberries, scone, glass of OJ) that’s perfect for me. Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants are good too, anywhere with meat on skewers. I even tolerate the rice from there! Chipotle’s burrito bowl is another winner Next up for me will probably be the soup, salad, and breadsticks from Olive Garden. -
I was sleeved on the 7th just today I had yogurt it tasted so good, I’m so tired of liquids. What other foods are you eating?

High Triglycerides- Advice Needed!
GassyGurl replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just got my 8 month bloodwork back and was distressed to see my LDL and triglycerides sky high. But I expected it, as it runs in my family. I bought fish oil, am going to try to eat more salmon, greens and maybe beans. Right now my protein comes from meat, cheese and yogurt. I can't totally manage mine with diet, but these changes would be good for me anyways. And maybe allow me to take 10mg VS 20mg of lipitor. I'm already taking flaxseed and it seems to have helped my good cholesterol. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
You have to live your life. There are going to be ups and downs and mistakes. One mistake is to believe you will never eat tempting foods again in your life. It happens, and you just have to do better the next day. Personally, since i wouldve been able to eat 6 slices of pizza before, I dont feel too bad about eating 1/2 or 1 slice of thin crust every now and then. I eat that one and stop. If i want ice cream, i get frozen yogurt instead.

I had the sleeve done 4/9. My diet has been clear liquids for the 1st week and then “soft proteins” for the next 2 weeks. Think eggs, beans, yogurt. I’ve started testing a few foods and when I’m eating them sometimes I get a tinge of pain and feel like I can feel the food moving through. Has this happen to anyone else? Maybe I’m not ready to start real food?

Serious Overeating & Binging Problems Post Op
mitchjoann132010 replied to sleeveduk96's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Avoid all of the sugars and refined carbs. My doctor told me to eat protein first until I reach 60-80 grams. Then move on to veggies. Carbs are last on the list. If you get your protein in you will barely be able to fit anything else in. Instead of having all the carbs, do your protein, delicious examples are below: Steak Turkey Bacon Ham (high sodium however, moderate) ----mmm I love honey ham Brat (high sodium however, moderate) ----heck cheesy brats are even good Hot Dog (high sodium however, moderate) Ground Beef -----why not cook some ground beef, put a (little) bit of homemade spaghetti sauce using fresh and healthy produce, and skim milk cheese (voila a pasta-less spaghetti) Turkey Sausage Turkey in general Rotisserie Chicken Fish Shrimp Crab Lobster Eggs Protein Shakes Greek Yogurt String Cheese Almond Milk And so many more!!!!! Maybe its because I'm borderline anemic but I LOVEEE meat!!!!! Spoil yourself but in a good way!! Experiment like the deconstructed spaghetti idea. Make yourself a cauliflower crust pizza with loads of veggies and protein. Finding healthy recipes and learning some cooking skills can double as a healthy diet AND eliminating some of the boredom. Plus on your free time you can look up healthy recipes on Pinterest, more boredom gone out the window!!!! -
So I forgot to look at the whole label

My NUT told me to keep the carbs under 20 grams, but to do yogurt with ZERO added sugar. There may be sugar from the fruit, but I always keep an eye out and keep my sugar intake under 7 grams per serving for whatever I am eating. -
GI issues post-op, a year out. Did anyone else experience this?
jessgnc replied to jessgnc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Creekimp13 - Thank your daughter for me! This is excellent advice. My body seems to have self corrected finally. I've been eating greek yogurt and probiotics, taking meds and added a little more of the BRAT diet (basic foods for the body to breakdown - Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast - so basic carbs) and it seems to be helping. -
Is there anyone who doesn't stall? And if so...
Mattymatt replied to Apple203's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't had a stall quite yet but I believe I am heading for one because I am not losing weight quite as quickly now. Maybe a pound every other day. I am now on the soft foods stage and I am probably 800-900 calories a day. I am also really starting to go to the gym now. Always protein first - chicken, tuna, turkey, greek yogurt, and stuff like that. Then fruits and vegetables. -

I had this problem. 6 weeks post opp and I was forcing myself to stay at 800 calories but I was starving and had zero energy. I was also doing keto and staying below 30 carbs/day as well as working out and doing about 4-5 miles walking. I posted on here and got some great feedback. One problem was I was having lots of little 100-150 calorie meals/snacks every couple hours. If I didn’t eat every 2 hours I was literally ready to gnaw my arm off and would get light headed when I stood up. I switched things up and started eating around 250 calories per meal. That keeps me full way longer. I’ve also thrown this keto thing out the window and am bringing fruit/berries back in my diet. Also upped fat content and instead of doing fat free everything I’m eating 2% yogurt, milk and adding in avocados. Now I’m eating about 1000 cal/day give or take. These changes helped break my stall, keep away the hunger, and I have so much more energy. Everyone is different and you really need to listen to your body.
