Periods And Birth Control-Tmi
musicalwonder posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So...i had my period right b4 surgery and of course it startes again the day after. Im 4 weeks post op and its starting again and its like a weird black smear. Anyone else get this? As far as birth control Im on the pill but read online its less effective because my stomach cant absorb the hormones. Im nervous but dont want to switch off. I was on the shot for years and gained over 100 lbs. My insurance doesnt cover an IUD. And before anyone says it...i hate condoms. Engaged and dont use them. Has anyone had issues with the pill? -

Krystal, good for you for coming here and asking for support and admitting to it all, thats half the battle, none of us are perfect bandsters, heck last night I ate an ice cream drumstick and resses peanut butter cups, I need chocolate on the day my period starts which was yesterday (TMI) Just get back up and get back to basics, you can do this! Come here often, read, post, get the support you need. We are all here pulling for eachother to succeed. -
I also had my surgery on the 16th. this is the first day I feel like getting on line. I had a tough go in the hospital with nausea and my B/P kept spiking. I can't keep the liquid loratab down so I am in some discomfort but liquid tylenol seems to help a little. I finally got a spooneful of yogurt down this morning, but haven't been able to progress much past clear liquids. I know this is TMI but I had a bowel moment yesterday evening and boy did that feel great. Mile of Magnesia did the trick. Difficult sleeping at night but napping during the day in a chair. I get my drain out Monday and I think after that I will be much better. I put a pillow under my knees and that seemed to help somewhat at night. Nothing taste good at the moment, but the yogurt was refreshing, even if it was just a spoonful. Any thoughts out there on clear liquids that taste good but not toooooo sweet. owl

Good! Never TMI! Do you feel any better? Now keep on drinking your fluids and eat (if you can) metamucil wafers one package once a day, they come in apple cinnamon and cinnamon . . I love them, just like eating Cookies. . . they will help keep you regular. . .

TMI, I know, but I have to ask! I am usually pretty darn fresh in my va-JJ area but latey, Eeeeek Gads! There is a very unfamiliar smell coming from down yonder. Is this possibly because I am passing fat? I can't stand this but if it is because of that, then I'll just have to deal with it...but ew.

Band plugged with mucus (sorry TMI)
RolledFondant posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, but almost two years out with the Lap band. It has worked really, really well for me and so far I have lost 78 lbs. and I have about 30 left to go (I have been plateaued for over a year- grrr!). Anyhoo, I have had a sinus infection for the past week and a half after having the flu and I have noticed that for the last week or so I have had a hard time keeping ANYTHING down, even fluids. It's like my band it too tight or everything is getting stuck. I think it is from having so much mucus and goo running down my throat that it is plugging up the band?? Almost everything is coming back up, even Water, juice, milk, Protein drinks, etc. I am almost back on a clear diet and it is very frustrating. I am on antibiotics, Sudafed, Claritin and the band problem isn't getting better... Has anyone else every experienced this? I have even sunk to having a glass of wine tonight hoping that the alcohol would relax the esophagus enough that I could get some Soup down, but about half a glass down and it came back up. I would hate to take the trouble to go all the way into my doc and get loosened, pay the big co-pay to have it go away in a couple days, then have to back and get tightened again, but I have hardly eaten anything in days. I. Am.SO.Hungry. Help! I am getting desperate and I am miserable. Anyone have any experience with that and have any good ideas?? Thanks in advance!! -
I'm feeling very frustrated and down, not many people understand why either. I started the process for surgery for the third time insurance issues and a move out of state stopped me the other two). I went to my pcp in May and had labs drawn, my hemoglobin was 8. The surgeons office was concerned and said with those numbers I wasn't a good candidate for surgery, I don't disagree. Fast forward to now, his nurse wanted me to get labs redrawn this last week so we could see where I was after taking Iron twice a day. My hemoglobin was 6.3 and I had to have 2 units of blood transfused Thursday. I spoke with the surgeons office Friday, to let them know. I'm still going through with the program, with the understanding it could all be for nothing. If I can't get my level to a 10 and maintain, surgery is out. So, I know my issue. Tmi, I had two cycles that lasted 9 days each 16 days apart (after my first blood draw). I called my pcp the last time, I was worried since I was having symptoms (fatigue, headache, shortness of breath, pale) and she said to just take it easy, being the stubborn person I am, I didn't push harder. All of this to say, I'm worried/scared. I want this surgery more than anything right now, I'm afraid of not being around for my children as they grow and I need this tool to help me. My family doesn't understand, "just eat better and work harder," because that's worked so well in the past. I'm seeing a different Dr. next week to try to get everything sorted out and under control. I just had to get it off my chest where others understood and didn't tell me I was wasting my time. I know now, not to let issues slide. I was in denial and just wanted it all to be ok. Sorry so long. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Ok I am like a week out from getting my first fill and as I expected I am still eating what I want and how I want although I try to eat right it never happens it's like walking again you have to learn. But with no restriction I am eating basically what I want. Well today I was being bad, ( I am about to have a visitor sorry tmi) and I wanted so bad a double decker taco from taco bell. I got one and ate it chewing very carefully (becasue I still try and practice that . Anyway I am feeling like it's stuck in my throat/chest and it's not painful just uncomfrotable and this is the first time I have felt this. Is that restriction?

Constipation. Tmi!
4ALongerLife replied to Crystalite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get some Miralax and mix it in your shakes. As I got further out, I then switched to stool softeners. YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this tmi segment you posted. Hang in there! It gets easier! And I hate Water, but love crystal light like add ins. My current addiction is "crush" flavors that I found at Family Dollar or Dollar General of all places. Best of luck! xx Stephanie -
Surgery on a "smaller" patient
mrs w replied to Lindsey Corbet Love's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I'm finally back for an update! I had been in the typical stall for quite some time, so was hesitant to post too much and come across pessimistic. Here's a recap. Had my surgery January 9th in Mexico. BMI was 29, weighed in at 153.4 (only 5'1) on January 1st when I started my pre-op. I had an easy pre-op, basically just did Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then veggies and chicken for dinner. Three days before surgery was yogurt only diet, but I did add a Protein shake once a day just to keep my protein up and my carbs down. Day of surgery I weighed 148.4 lbs, which put my BMI at 28. I went down to Mexico on the day of surgery and spent a few days in San Diego afterwards. First time I weighed myself on my home scale I was 139.2 and that was on January 17th. Jan 18 - 137.2 Jan 19 - 137.0 Then my weight started to bounce around and stall out so I stopped weighing daily. Feb 1 - 137.6. I started working out Feb 1, scale was still moving super slow, so again just weighed every once in a while Feb 5 - 136.0 Feb 23 - 135.2 Then I went on vacation to California. Just got back last night and I weighed in this morning at .... 129.0!!!!!! That puts me at a BMI of 24.4, the high end of NORMAL WEIGHT. Why did I finally drop? I don't exactly know, but here's two things that probably helped. 1. I ate out a lot, and although I didn't eat lots at a time, my calories were definitely higher, so I think that actually helped boost my metabolism. 2. I got super sick the second last night, stuck in the bathroom (sorry if this is TMI - but basically all night pooping and puking --- although it was mostly dry heaving since there was no food in me). So I probably am down quite a bit of Water weight, and fully expect I may gain a couple pounds once I get hydrated again and eating somewhat normal. Anyways, I just wanted to post an update since it's been a while, and I feel like I may have finally broken this stall. I am less than 6 lbs above my lowest weight as an adult. Still 14 lbs above my goal weight, but that being said, I am looking forward to increasing my exercise and putting on muscle, so realize it may be difficult for the scale to drop steadily if I'm toning up. Hope everyone else is doing well! --I am going to copy and paste this post to a few of the other "low BMI" threads, so sorry for the repeat to those of you that follow those threads as well-- -
New things have popped up. Don't want this to be a TMI moment, however, when they said everything would change, they weren't just a whistlin' Dixie. I really didn't have liquid elimination after the surgery. I do now. It seems all that happens is my stomach and things lower churn and gurgle. Which I do admit, I find amusing. It churns especially when I drink Water. I have learned.........whatever you do, don't fart!!! The other new thing that just started is burping. I burped a lot before. Not so much now. I am 5 weeks out after surgery. The new thing is I am finding it difficult to burp sitting or stand. I'm burping only while laying down on my right side only. So, every night after I lay down on my right side, the burping starts. It makes me laugh because it's so odd and I didn't feel the need to burp before. So after eating lunch today, I had to lean over the right side of my chair at work to burp. It made me giggle. Now what new joys can I look forward to experiencing? LOL Anybody else developed some new odd quirks?

Here's a New thing...sinus issue and pukey?
possumtrot posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully this won't be TMI, but last night I had a great walk but some of the area I passed by was weedy. We've been dry, dry, dry here and it got my sinuses flaring a bit. I must have had sinus drainage going down my throat to my stomach because all of a sudden I got that horrible watery mouth feeling like I was going to hurl. The only thing I could do was keep spitting out the Water in my mouth until things settled down internally. I had not overdrank or overeaten. In fact, I had not had a drink for probably 15-20 minutes while out walking, but this was definitely like the one time I took too big of a sip and was already full or at least close to being full and paid for it by feeling like I was going to puke. So at first I was puzzled but then I noticed the sinus thing... So, has anyone else had to deal with this? Aside from starting to take allergy pills, is there anything to do to avoid this occurrence? -
Constapation post sleeve advice please
Twylad replied to rcc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was over a week post-op for me. I became concerned, so I called my doc and he gave me permission to use Miralax, which did the trick. I've also been surprised by how much smaller my BMs now. (TMI?) -
Can some pls give some advice on what to use for constipation ???? ASAP something that works quick sorry tmi but I am miserable

Hey guys, I asked a while ago if anyone had experienced a yucky mucus at the back of the throat a few weeks out. There were suggestions of allergies or that I may have caught a cold, but I'm really not sure. I am now almost a month out and still having the same problem. I went to the pharmacy today and had real trouble explaining how it feels... It is NOT a cough, there is nothing on my chest I feel like I need to clear my throat and nose all the time, but nothing ever comes out I keep having a big thick clump of phlegm in the back of my throat which I can't bear to spit out because it feels so horrid, so I am swallowing it and then my tummy gurgles lots and I feel sick. I am having trouble eating because I feel like my stomach is full of this slimy stuff. Sorry for the TMI, it's so gross! Reading some other posts it sounds a lot like the "sliming" which some people experience when eating too much or too fast. But it is there all the time. Maybe I should go to my Doctor? The pharmacist gave me some tablets for congestion and catarrh but they don't seem to be making any difference.... Any advice would be much appreciated! Yours slimily xxx

im 5 weeks post-op today and have only lost 17lbs. I was down 15 lbs at 2 weeks post-op, at 2.5 weeks i had to get IV fluids which made me gain 5 lbs. i keep looking at everyones weightloss that had surgery after me and most have lost way more than me. Im tracking my protein, carbs and calories trying to keep it around 500-600 cals, 60 protein and under 30 carbs. i know I'm a slow loser but to see my scale only move .4 in a week and I hardly eat anything just makes me want to cry. Im having problems when i first get to work, the past 3 days i damn near past out while dealing cards and have to go sit down for a 10 mins and then im fine. not sure whats causing this my mom thinks low blood suger. TMI- Im also having problems with BMs Im lucky to go once a week and then its not much that comes out. Ive tryed maralax doesnt help, 4 days of exlax in a row never went.
