  1. When I started this journey in july I only ate 1/2 cup of food. I measured everything I ate. If it fit into the half cup that's what I ate. No matter what food it was. Now I measure everything into 1/4 cup serving. When I go out to dinner I can't make a decision so I get coffee for refried Beans. Everyone else I know eats a lot more. I was just wondering if anyone else eats like me. No, I'm not starving myself!!! Surgery- July 11, 2013 Band is 10cc's 4cc's in 1cc in 1cc in .25cc in .25cc in .25cc in .50cc in .25cc in .25cc in Band Dilation.........All out...............because my esophagus closed completely because I had too much Fluid I was on liquids for 3.5 weeks. 3cc's in Everything is all good!!!! 2. Well I had got the lap band 10/24/10. My biggest weight was 285 pounds. I lost weight throughout having my bad but at a very slow process. Throughout the years I regret getting the lap band. This year in March I was diagnosed with diabetes and my hypertension returned. My doctor and I decided to remove the band and go for a the sleeve. April 30, 2013 I was 202.8 lbs when I had my procedure done. It's now been six days and I just had my post op appointment. Since the surgery this is no sign of the diabetes and I am now 194 lbs. I'm happy with my choice so far. The recovery is so much better than getting the band. This is a long journey to a healthier new life and a new me. I have not been under 200 pounds since I had my 3rd child. This is a blessing. I struggled a little with the liquids and taking in my protein but I will get better. I even got thrush. These are just little bumps and I will keep you posted with my updates.
  3. Same here. My guess is our body thinks we are malnourished. It's freaking out and we are having to go slow until things click. Mine is worse in the morning on an empty stomach. I was sleeved 3/19, I'm so surprised some of you that had surgery after me are doing yard work!

  5. I had my surgery more than one month ago and I have not lost any weight in the past three weeks. I went for my first fill last week and was told that I already had 5cc in a 10 cc band from surgery and so she added another .7cc. I think I can eat alot of food and I am really worried that my band will stretch. I experience PB alot so I am still adjusting to the eating thing. How much food is too much? I was able to eat two slices of pizza for dinner and I am worried. I feel like I am going to fail at this. I was never a huge eater. My problem was my sweet tooth. Does this band mean that I have to be on a low carb no fat diet for the rest of my life? I am definate;y eating alot less then I was pre surgery but I am so frustrated that I was able to lose alot more pre diet than post. I definately fo not feel like I have enough restriction even with 5.7cc. I do not feel that my appeitie is curbed at all. I am a nursing mother and I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
  6. Hey everyone. I'm glad I found this app/site. I'm optimistically freakin' nervous. I love food! Don't we all? Hoping that I will be up to soft foods come Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, a Thanksgiving dinner would be my death row meal if I'm ever there (I hope not!). We'll get through the pre-op together. Look up OneLifetoSleeve on YouTube. I don't know this guy but he's been helpful and inspiring with his video blog. Take care!

    NsV!!!

Congrats!!! I was banded on 10/24 and things are moving awfully slowly for me, so I am so glad to hear that this band really works. I was 238 prior to surgery and still hanging at 216 - 218---so frustrating.
  8. keep up the great work! I started ABOUT the same starting weight as you, and i'm now 10 wks out (tomorrow). i vividly remember hitting the ONe-derland mark, but stalled just before i got there. now the scale has been steadily moving nicely and this morning i hit the 180's! hang in there and work your program, it will happen!!
  9. Glad you are asking questions and checking weight loss surgery (WLS) out. This is a great place to get a lot of opinions! Here is one more opinion---I had continual complications with my lap band for 10 yrs and just had a revision to sleeve in jan. Short story of lap-band-I hurt every minute of those 10 yrs. Now for the 1st time in 10 yrs my stomach and belly does not hurt. And that is after major sleeve surgery. I just heard this and wish I had heard it 10 yrs before........when you look at the statistics for complications after 3 months after WLS surgery, the lap-band has the most ongoing complications and problems. Yes, the others sleeve, bypass etc have more in the first 3 months but the band by far has the most after. A foreign body in your belly that can slip, erode, get covered in scar tissue...a port that turns and hurts.....well just had to say that. As for cooking----I never cooked before my sleeve and now I am! I'm always looking for receipts that are healthy and taste good, easy to make, and can be made in small batches. It's still early in my sleeve life but I think cooking will be fun Zakly, I bet as a chief you can cook up an amazing book of receipts for us WLS folks.

YOU CAN DO THIS! This is just the first of many trials of your sleeve. Just think in a couple of weeks you will be down about 20 pounds! Then you will have your sleeve and it will be a job just to swallow a little at a time, let alone worry about the taste, and that is a GOOD thing! The sleeve will help you stop focusing on what you CANT eat and suddenly you have to focus on just what you can get in, it really is a good feeling. Somethings that helped me in the 2 week pre op was sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding, it was comfort food as I divorced my eating of the past. Get some of that noodely Chinese soup and through away the noodles, use the packets of broth as a clear Fluid. Get yourself some diet Snapple too, great stuff. Now for your Protein,,, go to costco and get some of their Premier Protein shakes, I like the choc ones. They are the best I have found. Get some of that unflavored protein powder and mix it in what you can. Go get some protein shots at GNC or walmart, they taste like crap but it is a way to get a lot of protein in just 2 oz of yuck. You know the saying ,,,, No pain , No gain??? Well I tell myself no pain, no loss! Change is not easy, it is not comfortable but it is worth it for what you get. Better health, better looking and better life. Just think of the first time you get to put on a size 10 pants, will a few weeks of not so great tasting protein be worth it? Knowing that the weight regain will never be an issue again? Hang in there, you are working toward an amazing goal. Anything worth doing or having in life requires some sort of sacrifice!
  12. Ok, how long after surgery did you have a bowel movement. My surgery was 10/11 and nothing yet.

    Overweight Kids

And have you noticed that the portion sizes at fast food restaurants have gotten larger and larger over the years. When I was a child, a small soft drink at McD's or Jack In The Box was 10 or 12oz, medium was 16oz, and large I think was 24oz. Now it's more like 16oz small, 24 oz med, and 32oz large. And what's with the Mighty Kid's meal. I was a chubby kid, but I still got full off a Happy Meal - so why are they making them bigger? I'm just disgusted whenever I order a medium or large anything, and it comes out 2 times bigger than I expected.

    Starting over...

I was banded in 2010. I went from 253 to 160. I had maintained my weightloss until about a year sgo when I had to have an emergency total hysterectomy. After that surgery I gained about ten lbs and then it kinda steadied outn over the last six months I have been dealing with some relationship issues and am now single again. I recently stepped on the scale to realize ive gained another 10 or so lbs. Realizing ive slipped back into some bad habbits because all that goes down when I am stressed are sliders. So, im teying to get back into eating right, like I should. I feel like im starting over again. I need some tips for getting back on track and for high protien foods that wont stick. Any help and support is appreciated!

Day TWO of pre-op and :(

My pre-op diet is just low carb not liquid, for 1 week only. Then reading the instructions said it took 10 days to show a change internally. So why am I only on it for one week then. Then I read some don't have a pre-op at all. I don't get it. I'm afraid I'll mess this up

    Fillers

@@Victoria Mora don't worry!!! I promise the fill experience is not like getting blood drawn. The Dr. or PA will feel for your port and the initial "pinch" feels like just that a pinch. The needle only pierces the layer of your skin and goes right into the port. The Dr. will use a special kind of needle that is meant to permeate the port and not damage it or you. Once the Dr. access the port it felt a bit to me like a mechanic doing an oil change or something. The Fluid is then pushed into the port through the tubing and eventually to the band. Some doctors are aggressive with their fills and may do up to a 1 cc or more. Some doctors like mine are very conservative with their fills and would only give a .5cc fill each time. It can take up to a week to two weeks for the fill to fully settle into the band, so don't be shocked if you don't feel any changes right away. If that amount of time passes and you are still able to overeat, or you are eating sooner than 3 hours between meals then you will probably need another fill. there is no way to measure what fill level will work for each person. Everyone is different. There are some who just having the band is enough and they never need a fill and then there are some that are mostly filled to the highest level of the bands and find that to be their sweet spot. The average I feel of most people seems to be between 5-6 cc's in a 10 cc band. More than likely your Dr. will ask you to be on liquids for a day or more and then slowly move back to solid foods, this is to allow the stomach to ease into the fill and not be overly stressed out by the increased pressure in the band and the pressure of foods coming through. Let your Dr. know when you go in your a bit fearful of the needle so they have a little more patients with you, lean back and close your eyes and you will be done before you know it.

    Nervous and unsure

I'm 10 months (almost 11 months) post op Loop DS which involves a sleeved stomach (this particular surgery also has an intestinal bypass as well as shortening your small intestines). I'm able to eat between 6-7 oz. If I eat 8oz I feel nauseous, so that's not a good idea. I've been able to eat 6 oz since about 5 months out. It upped to 7 at around 8 months out. Your stomach CAN stretch back out. I wouldn't advise doing it on purpose though because it kind of defeats the purpose of the surgery, but you won't necessarily be stuck eating small amounts forever. As to eating foods from other countries it honestly depends on how you tolerate certain foods. For example, I can't eat wheat anymore because I dump. And it's not worth feeling like that. Even the smallest trace amount of wheat in something gives me unbearable nausea for a good hour. Also, moderation is key. When it comes to drinking with food they tell you not to because it makes the food go through you too fast and then you'll be hungry again sooner. Farther out I don't think it'll be a big deal if you drink on a special occasion but that fluid is going to take up space and won't be able to fit as much food.
  20. Well, you are 63 years young! Upon seeing my results, my mom was so impressed and I got her a fitbit. At 67 (and retired), she started VERY slowly...and now, she's easily clearing 10k a day without even thinking of it. The idea is to set a small goal, keep it consistently and slowly add as your body leads you. You are too precious not to give your body as much cardio as you can get in. I always think about my car (I don't expect it to last over 10 years), and yet look at all the maintenance I do for it, oil, etc. What more my 1 body I get as a gift from God per lifetime. Every single step you take is worth it! I'm sure when you are well enough, the fighter in you will rise up and say "Oh Heck no! My life is just beginning!!!"

  22. I usually make my protein shake with about 10 oz water and 2 oz 2% milk but today I was out of milk. So I grabbed my coconut coffee creamer and added that instead. Then I added the chocolate protein powder and gave it quick spin in the trusty ol magic bullet. I'm here to tell you it was SOOOOOOO good! Yummy yummy!!! You should try it!
  23. Yes, my surgery was June 10 and I have a wave of nausea when I drink anything. But it passes as a continue to drink. I also don't like anything with flavor right now. So Water is all I can handle. I also noticed that I am excessively thirsty all the time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Made it to ONEderland!

Great job! I'm getting sleeved in 10 days and have about 100-120lbs to lose. If I can get anywhere close to that by the end of the year I'll be thrilled! Any advice for the newbies? HW: 330 lb SW: TBD 6/27/2017 CW: 302 lb GW: 180 lb VSG, Dr. Jawad, Orlando, FL
  25. My work is somewhat physical and i asked my doctor today (I'm 10 day post-op) when would i be able to return to normal physical activity including carrying 20-30 lb here and there and some climbing on ladders and such. He told me to wait about a month post op. This "about a month" rule of thumb is assuming you went through a normal healing process with no complications,
