    Low folate, iron deficient anemia…

I got my Lap Band almost ten years ago, and I can't remember if they did pre op blood work and if they did what the results were. I'm almost three months post op revision Bypass now and this surgeon did do pre op blood work, but it was all normal. I've been on continual vitamins/calcium for nearly ten years, so that's probably part of the reason my labs were normal. It's not uncommon for obese people to be malnourished/have low vitamins & mineral levels. If you think about it, for most obese people, the choices that they make/made is part of the reason that gets a lot of us to wls. Fast food, pizza, burgers for the most part has very little nourishment as far as vitamins/minerals go (besides carbs, lol). I'm sure your team will get your levels up to normal before you have your surgery. As a matter of fact, after my pre op labs came back, even tho they were normal, I was started on chewable bariatric vitamins. It was standard protocol for pre op patients. So don't fret, you'll be fine! Best wishes!
  2. I've said it before, but I think the surgery changes everything, so we aren't the "norm". I truly believe it changes our physiology. Like @@JamieLogical said, I have observed differently after being on these boards for almost 2.5 years. I have also observed the opposite with myself. Every time I stalled, increasing my calories would break the stall, and I would actually start losing again more consistently. I was at 1100 by the time I hit maintenance, and now maintain on 1300 calories. Anything over 1300 I gain. First off, great topic. ^^ Since my lap band in 09 to sleeve revision, other than when I first got out of the hospital(s) (big stall first 10 days due to IV Water retention), I haven't experience stalls because like @@Babbs I increased my calories when I enter one. Now of course, if I fall off the wagon (lap band days) due to improper fill, I'd gain weight but when I'm on program, that's been my experience too. I know everybody is different, but this works for me. Since we're on the subject, I used to watch food contests videos and always wondered how the heck do they eat so much and stay skinny? grrr Almost all of them think like this: If anything, it's an interesting watch.
  3. I am so incredibly happy for you. I had Gastric Bypass in 2001. Most weight lost AFTER bypass (279) SW (before surgery) - 345 CW - 315. After enduring stage 4 breast cancer in 2010, I gained most of my weight back. I decided to return to my original doctor and request testing to find out if something went wrong with my original surgery. I was told everything was still in tact and I just need to start from SCRATCH! But I explained that I was able to eat a heck of a lot more. And that I would like options as to what can be done to tighten and/or revise my surgery. I believe my doctor was so eager to NOT have any "revisions" needed that he just sent me away - RUDELY! So I decided to ask around and seek a second opinion (of course - years later- because I believed there was something wrong with me). I followed his advise - but still believed something was wrong. Fast forward. I met a woman in my SAME situation and she referred me to her doctor for help. NOW, I am just waiting for an appointment. I will be researching the duodenal switch. I was never given this as an option. I am so excited for you.
  4. Hi, everyone! I can't believe I found this forum after 8 years banded! Looks like a lot of wonderful info and people are here! I'll try to be brief with my overview.... Heaviest was 364. Banded Dec. 2008. Currently, 258-264 (depends on the scale's mood). Lowest weight was 200 in 2014. After reaching that lowest weight, I had 4 major knee surgeries within 2 1/2 years (long history of knee issues after an accident at 9 years old). Those surgeries included 2 knee replacements and a full revision of one. I've lost range of motion with one knee and can longer do some of the things I once did. Thankfully, I can walk again and workout every single day. I also still journal and even weigh/measure my food. So, here I am... 60 pounds heavier than my lowest weight and the scale is just NOT budging. What the french toast??? I made an appointment with my surgeons office to see the NP and the nutritionist. I still feel restriction but could probably use a tiny fill since I no longer have the morning tightness. I have been eating 1400-1800 calories a day because I'm quite active. After a brief telephone conversation with the nutritionist, I'm going to alter my intake to 1200-1400 calories until I see them early next month. I keep my protein 75-100 grams a day and am doing all the things I'm supposed to be doing... with one exception. I drink water or unsweet tea with some of my meals. I'm a big water drinker and I eat healthy, natural foods. It's rare that I consume anything processed. I love my band and have not a single regret at all. I know that my metabolism is a bit wonky and I'm trying to get it fired back up again. For those that workout, are you working out in the morning? Evening? Are you eating before you workout? After? I'm trying to switch to early morning workouts before I eat. That seems to have worked for me in the past and hoping it does again. I'm open to hearing and trying new things! I'm also curious to know if anyone still journal's and if so, what is your caloric intake daily? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions are welcome! Thank you for listening and I'm looking forward to contributing anything I can to help others! ~ Jodie
  5. I haven't had the revision you are contemplating, but I hope you find someone who has to chat with, and I wish you well with it.

    Surgery date 10/17..Duke..

Oct. 16th, Richmond, VA. Revision from Band to Bypass.
  7. I am having my sleeve revision to bypass tomorrow morning. I never thought I'd be doing this again, but 4 years later, here I am. Fingers crossed for no more reflux and more weight loss! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I went from about 230 to 180 in 6 months, do you think losing 50 pounds having a revision in that time period is possible? Or is weight loss really slower?
  9. I had a revision from band to bypass 12/17 and I’m very happy with my weight loss. Congratulations on your surgery date. This is your first step to anew you!!
  10. I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on May 22 due to severe GERD. It seems that I've been reading people having revision 2 years post sleeve. I was originally banded in April 2009 then had revision from band to sleeve in April 2016 and now revision from sleeve to bypass last week. I wish I had skipped the sleeve and just gone straight to bypass and I would've avoided all the pain I had with GERD and I would not have had to get a third surgery. I must say that I feel great and no longer have GERD. My recovery has gone much smoother, meaning that I was back at work after one week. I asked my surgeon at my one week follow up if he actually did anything because I feel pretty good and am pretty much back to normal. I know is still have to take it easy for another four weeks but after that he said I had no restrictions.
  11. Hi all, I had my sleeve done in 2014, lost 7.5 stone and gained 2-3 stone's back. I have been advised to have the bypass due to severe acid reflux. So I'm thinking of having a revision so I welcome this postand your thoughts. I don't see to much stuff on the successes of having a revision. I'm told by surgeon my weight lost will be slow due to the fact that must of my excess weight 75% had been lost when I had the sleeve, so my starting position is different, he says I'm likely to lose the weight I've regained maybe a little more not that much around 45-50Ibs which is ok by me. I'm interest to find out how much people have lost in 6 -12 months of having a revision from sleeve to bypass. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app

    TURKEY DAY Challenge 2009

I think I have an idea why some say 13 weeks to go and some say 12 weeks to go. As of yesterday(9/3), Thanksgiving is exactly 12 weeks away. The dates on the left hand side where it is saying 13 weeks to go are end of August dates. The dates where it is saying 12 weeks to go are beginning of September dates. I am excited to do this challenge to get me back on track. I got my band last summer and am having a hard time with these last pounds. Thanks, Colleen Lap band surgery: 5/6/08 Revision for kinked tubing: 7/17/08
  13. If you don't mind me asking, why did you have the revision from MGB to full GB? Did you have complications? Also how has your recovery been going? Any side effects or complications? Are you happy with Dr. Illians work? I hope your doing fantastic and already seeing fantastic results. [emoji847] Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. I was not successful with the band but have done well since revising to the sleeve in 2011. I do not agree with the implications that "you can't fail " with the sleeve. Yes you can, you can fail with any WLS. For many of us the sleeve is more effective and less "fussy" in terms of getting it just right. I was one of those banded people who still had hunger but experienced pain when eating dense Protein. Sleeve has felt alot more normal...just a smaller tummy. My feeling is that the sleeve and bypass are effective procedures, each with pros and cons. Education on what to expect with each, and your own situation is the way to make the decision! Failed Lapband

I was banded two years ago and lost very little weight. Over time, I even gained 30 pounds with the band. Needless to say, I felt the surgery was a complete waste of time and money for me. I know many people have been successful, but I wasn't one of them. I revised to the DS this past June, and have been thrilled with the results. (I too had a lot of scar tissue from the band.) Revising to the DS was the best decision I've made for my health. Don't feel like a failure. The band just doesn't work for some people. I had about 8 fills and never felt a restriction.
  16. Hi everyone, I am curious to know if anyone has had a revision from gastric sleeve to the gastric bypass in Mexico? If yes, who did your surgery and would you recommend them to others? Thanks.. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. I too had the lap and in 2008. The first two years were wonderful and I got as low has 185. I too am 5'2" and a petite female, in other words I was far never big boned. In 2012 I finally admitted to having some serious issues with my band; reflux, heartburn, not eating until 4 in the afternoon because my band had to warm up. It was two years of hell for me. I finally went in and had an egd and found out I had intestinal metaplasia, caused from the reflux and heartburn caused from the band. I decided then and there to have it taken out. My surgeon advised me that revisions are more complicated but I was an excellent candidate. I was revised to RNY on June 12, 2013. I weighed 218 on the day of surgery. I hit my goal weight in the summer of 2014 and had a circumferential lower body lift at the beginning of November. I feel fantastic, am holding steady at 110 to 112 and now have the figure I felt I always should have had. I eat sensibly, exercise and take my vitamins daily. I bought jeans last week at lucky brand and got size double zero. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be that tiny. I look normal and healthy and when I look at pictures of myself at my highest weight of 270 size 24 I can't believe it's me. Anyone starting this journey know it isn't easy but it can be done. I wasn't a fast loser but I worked the process every single day. Good luck!

    Slipped Band

Hi Magii.... I am in same situation as you. I just found out this Friday (10/10/08) that my band had slipped. My Dr didnt tell me to go on liquids, etc. he just told me to try not to gain weight since I got a total unfill. I have been eating the same as I was when I had a fill HOWEVER I am noticeably hungry and really have to watch myself. I have to go back in 3 weeks for another flouroscopy and see if part of my stomach went under the band again. Do you have to go back in one or two weeks? Did your Dr tell you what is next? I'm assuming that if there is no change in my slip I will have to have a revision. Hope you are doing well and wonder if you heard from anyone else who has had a slipped band and if they went on liquids or continued on solids. Angie Banded 3/29/06 down 75 lbs

Dumping Syndrome is "a good thing"!

i am in the process of having the revision to RNY.how was the recovery/
  21. Momof2boys, I'm a bit confused did you have your lap band removed? Did you revise to any other surgery? Let me know, Nancy.

    Port Left In :(

Did the doc say why?? There was a lady having the revision surgery in Mexico when I went and they removed hers.. strange?!
  23. Is anyone else having that strange dizzy/lightheaded/foggybrained feeling after surgery? I can't seem to shake it Lapband revision to gastric bypass on 12-14-2016 Weight day of surgery: 308.2 lbs Current weight: 300.8 Total weight loss: 7.4 lbs

    25% removed?

I did follow all of the Dr's orders and had the best attitude and still my band has to come out! I'm scheduled for a revision on Wednesday, so it is the luck of the draw who keeps theirs and who does not. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but the band is a great tool that comes with it's share of problems. I have talked to many people who have had no problems what so ever and then lots who have. I wish everyone could have a wonderful experience but if you read enough you will find that is not always the outcome. Good luck to all! Bernadette
  25. Had my surgery on july 8, 2014. I was a lapband to sleeve revise. (No issues with the band....simply tired of the inconsistencies) Highest weight before band: 334 Lowest weight with band: 243 Sleeve surgery day: 230 Not trying to focus on all negatives here because i am only 8 days out. Just providing insight to those pre-sleeved and looking to find similar stories like mine so far. --Ask for pain and nausea meds per IV PRIOR to waking up from surgery. I had a horrible experience because they failed to do this. --Take liquid meds if possible. Crushing pills are not tasteful in the least no matter what u mix them in. Don't learn the hard way and get a pill lodged the same day you come home and have to return to the ER!!!!!! Very painful and unpleasant. --Gas pains are real. Be prepared. I am 8 days out and still feel the aftermath of those bastards. --Don't get so discouraged if you feel hunger after surgery. I am one of the ones who doesn't feel hunger at all and i am having a horrible time getting in any amount of nutrition. In turn, i have absolutely NO ENERGY. And constantly out of breath. (keep in mind i am usually fairly active and can keep up with most anyone) this is very emotionally and physically draining. I don't want food and if i think i do...i am a half a bite in and i hate it and waste EVERYTHING put in front of me!!!!!! --Unless you have a desk job.... Take the time needed off of work. There is no way possible i would be able to return to work 8 days out. My job is fairly active and labor driven. I wouldn't make it an hour at this point. I would recommend 2-3 weeks minimal to those who are on their feet and moving a lot. --Have plenty of pillows for comfort. They are your friend. --Do not overload yourself with Protein powders before hand. I cant even stand the smell of protein much less the taste at this point. Buy it as needed and variety is key. --keep faith despite every hardship. Its a journey...... U can cry if you want to. Nothing worth having is ever easy. Good luck to all sleevers and revises!!!!!!!!
