I was honored to be invited to be the matron of honor in my friends wedding. I was pre-op when she asked me and actually I was nervous about it because I didn't have insurance approval yet and I wasn't comfortable in my own skin. Well I had the surgery and 2 weeks later we went to look at dresses. I tried a size 16 and it would only zipper about 1/2 way, knowing I would be losing weight I bought a 14. I am pleased to say that it fit relatively comfortably tonight, I am so beyond excited. I have 8 weeks to the wedding and I'm hoping it will need some alterations but I won't be greedy! This is the best feeling I have had in a very long time

Alright fellow July folk our month starts tomorrow! We have all been on this journey for months and our new lives will begin in the next few days. I am sure this will be a tough and trying couple of weeks but we will start having our own NSVs before we know it. Please remember not one of us needs to fight this battle on their own. Use this board to rant, brag, complain, and ask questions. July is going to be great!!!

OMG I'm out of my head excited!!!!! I had 4 huge boxes of "thin clothes" on my closet and 99% of it now fits!!! I tried them on yesterday. Size 14 and 12 pants, size large and medium tops!!!! I didn't realize I was that small yet, but went to a party Friday night and my friend told me that I looked tiny, and I realized my new size 16 Ann Taylor pants (omg yea, regular clothes!!) were already kinda droopy on me. I just bought them a month ago! Being a size 14 wasn't even on my radar... And the best part is I even missed the boat on a favorite coat which is kinda too big. Hah!!!!!!!!!!! So happy!!!

9 days post op.... weight loss stalled. so frustrated.
Cherie Murphy replied to Faith-ster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I've lost during my post-op my surgeon told me at my one week check up to expect a gain during this time! He told me that it is totally natural. So don't give it any mind! Just heal! Drink plenty of fluids and if your like me who mentally feels like I have to go to the bathroom everyday my Dr suggested Miralax in my water! I think about my pre surgery life and if I got on the scale even once a month I most likely wouldn't be in this position! So take a break from the scale and look for some Non Scale Victories (NSV)!!! Like I have not needed a Prilosec since I had my surgery and my BP is almost normal! -
Great NSV! It was about 28 years from the time mine was cut off and the time I could actually had it fitted back together to wear it again. I have not removed it since getting it back on at Christmastime!

What a lovely NSV. So happy for you.

That is a great NSV! One I look fwd to

I've been wondering what my first NSV might be...essentially trying things out that I couldn't do or was way too afraid to do before....well, we hit the pool today (me and my two little munchkins) and I was able to easily get in and out without having to use the ladder! I haven't hoisted my body up like that for a loooong time... The best part was that i didn't even think about it until i was already out of the pool. I just did it. When it hit me i just stopped in my tracks and if i was less worried about looking like a crazy lady i would have danced a little jig right then and there. It made me all the more motivated. I've been exercising too...running and Zumba have helped me build up my muscles and I know that's partly why it happened so naturally. Loving this and can't wait for more!

NSVs top all things!

NSV today while shopping

Donna, what a great NSV.. I have two Wacoal bra's in my dresser, both cost me 65.00 each.. now they are too big but hey I am not complaining.. it's really great to find stuff on sale that fits.. you should have bought the jeans and had them shortened.. I have problems with the same thing.. I am 5' on a good day. so if it says short or petite I usually have to shorten it...good shopping days are what makes everything better.... -
Got into a smaller bra, sorry guys out there but to us girls it's a big thing. And the best part was it was on clearance at Dillard's, it was a Wacoal, originally $48, I got it for $15, yup, I did. Then I hit Belk's and bought a 1X shirt, yes I did, and it was on sale got it for $7, it was my day, oh and I tried on some cute jeans at Belk's size 22, they fit but too darn long and they said short, I was so disappointed and they were on sale, I should have gotten them and had them altered.

I'm a month out and just walked a 5k. I'm already amazed at how far I have come. Six weeks ago I would have never had the courage to get out there. Now I do... Ya NSV.

I had made a post recently that I was .5 away from having lost 45 lbs... today I have made it to 45! My highest weight was 357. Surgery was May 6 and I was 350. I am now at 312! My first fill of 4.5 cc out of 14 was June 3. I went in expecting to have my second today and was told my loss was way over average and there would be no reason to give me another. It's so surreal to me that I've lost that much - too bizarre to process in my head. I recently put up my first profile picture on Facebook that I've had in years. It wouldn't seem like a big deal to many, but it felt so good to be able to have a picture there I felt good enough about to share. I know I was the creator of a very long "Miserable inside" thread a month ago... at 21 especially, this was a very difficult decision to make but I'm glad it worked out. Thank you all who have been so supportive It's really appreciated and I hope we all can continue to inspire each other. ~Mark

Happy days and more NSVs for you Misty. I'm so happy for you Looking forward to meeting you on Monday. Update on me, and thanks to all that gave me such fantastic advice last night and this morning. I emailed back and forth with my dietician today, and spoke with Dr Nolan's crew and decided that I'm not mentally or emotionally ready to have the sleeve. I'm not writing it off, but I really think I owe it to myself to give it one last red hot crack with good old willpower and exercise. The advice you all gave really rang true, but Fiona (my dietician) said something that really stuck with me - that her many successful clients that WERE ready to be sleeved, all couldn't wait to be full from half a sushi roll - and I just couldn't bear the thought. So I'll be off to a psychologist Monday, which I probably should have done earlier in my journey anyway, and then will consult closely with Fiona going forward. I know what I need to do, I just need to execute. Perhaps I can take inspiration from the QUEENSLANDERS on Wednesday night (thought I'd drop that in ) Ill continue to hang around, and look forward to meeting you SEQ peeps on Monday. Onwards and upwards hey? Congrats to all of you who are doing such great things, and best of luck to those of you who are pre-op in not falling at this final hurdle as I have. Cheers, B x

NSV stands for non-scale victory
-
You look awesome! Congrats! Now, would someone please yell me what "NSV" is without laughing at me :/
-
I've done so myself many times, however, don't fret over a scale reading. It's a poor measurement of success anyway. As previously mentioned, strive for a better body composition by improving your body fat percentage. If after several weeks you have no progress on the scale or with NSV's, then it's time to make an assessment because you've likely reached your energy balance equilibrium and are stalled out. Don't get too hung up on the “muscle weighs more than fat” rationality though either. Yes, gram for gram that's true, however, most bandsters trying lose weight have a prolonged calorie deficit – and the odds of adding muscle while in a prolonged deficit is nil. I too have a bowflex that I use as one tool in my exercise routine! Brad

Sometime back some of us on here were discussing company's that offer an "incentive $$$" to their employees for completing a well being assessment/biometric screening. I did boycott for a couple of years....but, then figured what the heck. So yesterday I go to this at work and they do their screenings....all the normal stuff, height/weight/bloodtest, etc. I completely forgot about the required 8 hours of fasting before the bloodtest....but, they said they'd do it anyways. Keep in mind about 2 hours before the test, I had two ribs, half an ear of corn, some broccoli salad, AND homemade fruit salad. When the machine spit out the results, the nice lady goes....."you said you just ate two hours ago?" YEP. She sent me over to this table of health coach professional's.... to explain my results to me. Coach me. After the expert looked over my numbers, she said my sugar/triglycerides/cholesterol ratio/glucose/BP all were "GREAT"! "but you could stand to lose a few pounds"............then I pulled out my phone, and showed her a pic of where I was when I started this journey. Her jaw about hit the floor.... LIFE IS GREAT!

I had my first NSV today! Last night I went into my closet and tried on some of my size 24 pants that I haven't worn for 2 years. I knew that my size 26's were too big but never thought I was able to wear the 24's so soon. I wore them all day and even left the button done up all day. I feel great!!! On my surgery date I was 311 pounds. Now I am down to 289. I had a little bit of the stall I have heard everyone talking about and was worried, but have since realized that is okay. I am working out 3-4 times a week already and am being very active.
