    Lapband slipped? Eroded?? Help needed!

    Finally yesterday i found a band doctor.. Who examined me.. He took out the liquid only 2 cc of omnipaque in the band.. My symptoms were muxh better but he suspected aesophegus dilitation and now i realize my food a d water was getting stuck in my aesophagus and not band.. It is still getting stuck but a lot lot better then before.. I had a barrium swallo test for an hour today... And now i will get a endoscopy done tommorow.. Nervous of whats going on.. He suggested me to take out the band and go for gastric bypass or mini bypass even though i am below my target weight .... Confused and scaredif my esphagus is perm damaged or worst i have barrets? Or some thing sinister? Also cost for revision is very expensive for me right now and no insurance.

    Patience grasshoppah! I agree with Tea. Go back to do one thing at a time. Go back to your old way of eating LC or Keto or whatever you choose to call it. You are likely hungry with it cuz you're keeping fats pretty low. Maybe up your fats and see if it helps with satiety? But when I say "up" them, I'm not talking fat bombs or desserts, or lots of added dietary fat. I'm talking about: 1. Switch from boneless skinless breasts to breasts with the skin. Or switch to thighs. Or eat beef pot roast. Or eat pork shoulder. These cuts naturally have more fat in the meat and so have more calories and are more satiating. Also if you are only eating 2oz per meal (by weight) of protein, try eating 3oz. if you are eating 3oz per meal, try eating 4oz. until you hit your daily protein goal. If you hit your goal easily and go over on protein...then you may need to look at re-apportioning your protein/veggie serving size to fit your macros. I'd add a small salad with vinaigrette to each meal if that happened. I rarely eat more than 3oz per meal cuz I don't need the extra protein. 2. Eat 1-2oz by weight of al dente veggies. Add 1tsp of fat to them (avo oil, evoo, coconut oil, butter, ghee, animal fat) or add up to 1oz avocado, or 1/2oz by weight of nuts/seeds. 3. Eat 3 meals per day. Try not to snack. If you are hungry allow a snack composed of these (choose one): a. String Cheese b. Hard Boiled Egg c. 1oz dense dry protein. This will put you in ketosis big time by the end of about 4 days. You will lose 2-4lbs of water from it as your liver dumps glycogen and the attached molecules of water it holds. Then do that for a month and don't worry about it. That's your new diet. As your pouch matures, you will need to revise it to add more fat/calories to your day, or continue to choose more fat dense meats/dishes. If you are struggling with weight loss, I would stick to this and I would avoid calorie dense complex meals such as casseroles, stews, gooey, cheesy stuff. I'd stick to clean meats, healthy fats, al dente veggies. Hope that helps! Congrats on your losses!!!!! Don't stress, don't worry! For me eating in maintenance is longer than 2months with no loss on the scale or by the tape measure. For me a stall is 3 weeks without a change on the scale or by the tape measure. Other people have different definitions.

    4 years post op nightmare

    I’m sorry to hear you struggle. Regain can beat you down mentally. As you can see on the site, you’re not the only one with a regain or had a revision. Its not easy to get back on track.... its work. But, It can be done. It's not for me to say if you have stretched your surgery back to full size. That’s between you and your surgeon. You may want to consider counseling before a revision. If you’re eating behavior is not addressed, you may stretch your next surgery.

    We are not all doomed to regain after 4/5 year out. There is no need for revision if you follow your plan. Many of us have kept the weight off and maintain successfully.

    Thank You. I had reflux all the time. It was even happening when i was sleeping. I don't think you will regret the revision. My only problem with it is my little pouch doesn't like cheese/dairy anymore.
  7. Hello, I saw a few posts about this but I am still curious to see if anyone had any issues getting approved for a revision through Kaiser? I had WLS in 2013 and as of now I have gained a lot of it back PLUS I have been having issues with GERD for the passed 3 years that is only getting worse. I asked for a referral back to the bariatrics department so I am waiting for a phone call but I am just nervous about it. Does anyone have any information?
  8. Hello all thank you for posting great info I have learned alot. I was sleeved 3/18/2019 and have some severe complications. I am getting revised today to bypass. Hope this helps. I had severe acid and bile reflux. I was unable to eat or drink. Currently waiting to be wheeled off to the ER. This was unexpected. I was well researched on the sleeve.. now to research RYGB. Thanks again for sharing all the great info Just wanted to add I'm 5'06" I weighed 233 on my surgery date and weigh 206 today.
  9. I want to thank all of you for posting all this information. I go in tomorrow morning 4/10/19. For a Sleeve to DS revision. I am at 440 right now and my high prior to the sleeve was 535. August of 2017 - I was down to 390 - then was in a bad car accident with a mild TBI and I have a disc bulge and loss of sensation in my thumb and pointer finger. I was so depressed I put the weight back on. I've tried since February of 2018 to get the DS, but the one hospital didn't tell me they weren't considered a COE until five months into the process. I was lost and went back to the original hospital I got my sleeve from. I didn't have to, but I went through the 6-month weight loss. Kicked Coca-Cola. That's probably the best part. I've lost 18 pounds on the 2-week liquid diet and was told by the PNP that I will be able to eat pretty close to normal after the surgery. I'm honestly craving barbacoa and cooked purple carrots lol. Actually, right about now, I'm thinking of eating my desk at work. I'm on a clear liquids only diet today. I look at today... like... well I've gone through physical, emotional, and mental hell the last two weeks. What's one more day? For some reason, I keep having nightmares about dying. I know I wont, but I'm a person that operates on high anxiety. (Especially when I can't eat to comfort myself.) I am also a very strong willed person and know I have a huge road ahead for me. I need to get in the mid-200's, if not lower. My PNP said I should lose 180 pounds in a year. I like a challenge and so I want to lose 200. I'm not naïve and know this road will be very bumpy. I've tried to warn my wife about the gas, but I'm pretty sure she will experience hell soon. I am encouraged to read about your recoveries when doing revisions. I was super worried about that. I have about 2 1/2 weeks off of work after today. So, I should hopefully have some idea what I will be experiencing when I eat certain foods. I do like to workout and unlike some, I've seen increased weight loss when I do workout. I stay to more cardio and when I weight train I do it in a circuit and constant motion so my heartrate is staying in the cardio zone. It's a tip I learned from a professional weight trainer when I was in my 20's. It really cut me up then and I know now, approaching my 40's will hopefully continue to work. Some stats about me: Name - Josh Weight - 440 Surgery - 4/10/19 Married 1 daughter, but trying for one more - hopefully in July. Age - 38 - birthday in July. I started crying at my desk this morning, thank god I have an office I can close. I'm an emotional guy. Thanks for all the inspiration and I look forward to posting updates.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

    My big post op report. Today I am 4 days post op revision from VSG to Mini Gastric Bypass. Today I only feel discomfort and no pain at all. In fact, I haven't touched any of the pain medicine I was sent home with. Although, I do have a high tolerance for pain. The biggest issue I had with discomfort was I had a drain paced and it made it nearly impossible for me to get comfortable. I have 3 incisions and one drain "open wound" that should close on it's on. My stomach has bruised pretty bad but all in all it doesn't look so bad. The hardest part of the whole surgery was coming out of anesthesia honestly. I felt perfectly fine after. We even toured Tijuana 2 days post op and were able to walk around the beach and shops with no issues. As far as hunger is concerned...I haven't felt hungry since my surgery at all. It's a very weird thing to me to not feel hungry because before I was always hungry. Well, Head hungry anyway. The thing about being coder after surgery has been absolutely true for me! I have been freezing all day. It's 75 degrees right now (830 pm where I am) and all I want it to bundle up in my husbands thermal PJ's and put a heated blanket on. As they have stated above...BRING CHAPSTICK. That's the only thing I didn't bring that I wish I would have. I have opted to go back to work tomorrow because I have a job where I feel I will have no issues at all. We have filtered water there, a way to heat up broth and I have a mini fridge in my office so thats just about all I need. I do need to remind myself to keep hydrated!
  11. I had a sleeve to MGB revision a few years ago and have had nothing but problems with severe reflux ever since. Does anyone else experience this? It started about 3 or 4 months after with just general reflux in my gut that was remedied with over the counter medicine. It's now so bad that Im seeing a specialist and have to have a series of tests to figure out if they want to perform a new surgery. I basically have reflux so bad that I vomit bile on an almost daily basis and if Im not eating constantly, it just gets worse and worse. I knew reflux was a potential side effect, but had I known it would get so bad that I need another surgery, I don't think I would have ever done this. A couple years later and Im just as overweight as I was and in severe pain on a daily basis. Please understand Im not trying to discourage anyone from surgery, just trying to see if Im the only one. I know these surgeries have great success for so many people

    I have about 70 more pounds to lose. To be honest, GBP seems so much easier for me than the sleeve because I was still quite hungry after my sleeve but after bypass I have to remind myself to eat. I know you are going to do well and love your choice to go with the revision. Not having that burning sensation in my chest and throat has been life changing for the better!     I had my revision from sleeve to RNY on 3/11. I took 4 weeks off to recuperate and that was the best thing to do. I’m 53 so it was harder to bounce back from surgery than in previous years. I have no hunger and NO GERD. It’s an amazing feeling not to have that. I’m down 26 pounds and feel better each day.

  16. Completely understandable. Even 1200 kcal is not really much for a male your height. Did you weigh and track the food you eat by any chance to see how much calories you're really eating in a day? I know it's a real hassle but maybe try to track your intake for a week as accurate as possible? As for the amount of food. TBH, I can't really remember how much I was able to eat 6 months after MGB. I'm about three years out now of my revision and eating two bananas in one sitting is no problem at all. However, I don't feel hungry for a whole while after eating them.

    I was afraid to tell my husband about my revision. As we are both on my insurance from my employer. They only cover me for this procedure. He has a little GERD and was sleeved a month after my sleeve. We used his insurance. Additionally, he is a cáncer Survivor. I feel alot guilt. However, I must still move forward.     I went 3 years with the GERD before my revision. I didn't get on med's until I went to a new surgeon to see about the revision, It helped right away. I found out about the Barrett's when he sent me for my pre op scope. I had gained 60 lbs with the sleeve after loosing 100 with the lap band (it went bad and had to come out). My revision has been a breeze. I'm down 40 lbs and feeling great. The recovery was easier than both my previous surgeries. I have no regrets what so ever.

    No support system

    Not getting any support from my husband about getting my sleeve revision to gastric Bypass,he thinks this is a stupid idea and is very negative about everything. Tomorrow is my surgery and I have to be there at 5:30 am and he’s even complaining about that because God forbid he loses his precious sleep.

    Disappearing lapbanders

    Exactly!! I have the same sentiments. I just had a tube and port replacement that was torn during a previous surgery and due to my insurance at that time it wasn’t caught and was gaining all my weight back since I had no restriction. Finally back on my journey!! My current Bariatric surgeon actually recommended repair instead of removal and revision. His view was if it was successful when you had it working, give it another shot before something more drastic.
  22. My BMI when I got my band in 2009 was approx 32. Was it worth it ? HELL YES! I got down to a BMI of approx 22 before I slowly regained. Revised to RNY in Jan at a BMI of 28 ( due to reflux and other issues) and am now down to a BMI of 23.

    No support system

    I have 0 support. Friends out of state have my back but no one here. I’m taking an Uber to the hospital, my brother in law is kindly picking me up and my mom refuses to bring an overnight bag for me since I can’t bring it to check in. She’s made it clear she does not support my bypass revision even though it could save my life long-term (cancer, aspiration pneumonia). Surgery is Thursday and I’ve left the anxious stage after doing a thorough bedroom cleaning and now I’m just depressed knowing the mom I supported through my sister’s death (32 and I moved in with her so she isn’t alone) and she makes me completely alone when I’m most vulnerable. Sadly, I depend on these forums for support.
  24. Something caught my eye about your post...you have GERD, and there is a real possibility that the sleve surgery would make your GERD a lot worse. Do some looking around on this forum and you will find those having sleeve to RNY revision due to severe GERD. So, based on how little you have to lose, and your preexisting condition, My opinion is that you shouldn't have the sleeve surgery. Keep trying through diet modification and exercise.
