How do you feel after your fills?
YngGram replied to thebandedgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did 1 1/2 days liquid, 2 mushies as directed. I'm at a pool toury this weekend and food options are not the best. This morining I had 1/2c oatmeal and 4 spoons of yogurt, no problems getting it down. I don't feel as tight but did get a slight headache after about 2 hours. Was able to eat some grilled chicken and salad, feeling much better. I just wish I had won my pool match, blaming it on the headache and not the dumb scratch I made on the eight ball! -
Great description Megan. Did you mean a whole pie in level 1 or a whole slice. I hope you meant a slice. I agree with you. I think I am at level 3 most of the time now but I have to say that if I don't eat slow enough or take small bites, I can feel very uncomfortable. Only PB'd once and that was enough for me. Funny thing is, even though I have such great restriction, the easiest foods for me to eat are all the unhealthy ones such as Icecream, cookies, candy, pretzels, chips. I know because I have tried one of each in the past few weeks. The other not so funny thing is that the healthy proteins like chicken, eggs, fish, yogurt, turkey are very difficult to swallow. They have to be moist and tiny. The good thing is that salad with some diced chicken and fat free dressing goes down easy too. I think my point is (got off task lol) that restriction is great in many ways but it is not so great in other ways. Too tight and you can blow your cookies sitting at the table with friends, or you can't eat a yummy seafood pilaf that you and your son made together cause you took too big of a first bite. Restriction is not going to automatically make you stop eating or make you pick the right foods to eat. Like everyone says, the band is a tool and we have to use it but it is no magic gatekeeper for what we grab off the table or out of a bag and hope that the band won't let us eat it. I just wanted to all that in because I thought that once I had restriction, I wouldn't be able to eat much at all. THat is true but I still have to decide what I am going to eat. Salad with grilled chicken or a milk shake and cookies. It would be nice though if the band was so powerful.

Road Trip!! what am I going to eat??
Cocoabean replied to imagine923's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Popeye's red Beans and rice...yum! And a skin off thigh...oh yeah. Wendy's chili is great. Goes down very easily. McDonald's has snack wraps with chicken or burger. That is assuming you can eat chicken or burger. If not, you can order w/o meat and extra cheese. At taco places I do bean burritos or quesadillas. Often I just eat the stuffing out of burritos, as they are generally pretty big. Subway--I eat the stuffing out of sandwiches, DH and I split a footlong. I just leave the bread behind. But you can also get wraps and salads there. pizza, I can do thin crust or eat the topping (not the healthiest choice, but I am maintaining now). Most fast food places have salads now. Nearly all of them with chicken are chicken breast, which gives me problems. When traveling, I stick with things I generally think will go down, even if higher in calories. I have a little 12 volt cooler that we take on road trips. I put cheese sticks, yogurt, Protein drinks, fruit, and things like that in it. I also carry almonds and protein bars for if a place just doesn't have something. But they generally do. -
3 weeks post op and cheating... anyone else in my boat?
pmpanther replied to t.redfield's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Monday 5-9-11 and told that I need to stay on a liquid diest until I meet with the Dr on the 20th... Its impossible, not only can I not get enough liquids in me from the swelling but I am truly starving... I am probably getting around 400-600 calories in a day right now and I find the cravings are worse then the two week diet before the surgery... I have been cheating and trying the greek (thick) yogurts, icecream, and others items like this to help me out, but i am really not sure if this is hurting me or not, things seem to go down smoothly, but am i creating problems with the size of my pouch, the stiches holding the band in place, and whatever other crazy idea my mind can dream up... Today i blew off my kids game because i am depressed on just not sure what is going on with me inside... I am not sure if i am right but i think i can appreciate were you coming from and only say its going to take stamina right now to get through this... as much as the shakes arent that great as long as i have some in me i dont have any cravings, but as soon as they burn off there better be a lock on the fridge... -
Stop drinking shakes and eat food. Shakes should only be used in the first couple of months after that they should go out the door. I eat 90 to 120 grams of protein a day, 60 grams of carbs, not much fat maybe 30 grams if that. I try to stay under 30 for sugar. Those shakes are killing your diet. You should only be eating food now. If you are too tight in the morning eat greek yogurt. Eat more then three times a day. I eat every couple of hours. Something is always going in my mouth. I just dont eat crap. I snack on grape tomatoes and other low calorie veggies. Lentils are good protein but also a lot of carbs. You are not eating enough protein without shakes. Drinking calories does not help you.

New here! Your feedback is greatly apreciated :)

I had my surgery on 6/18, I've lost 1 pound a day. Total as of today that I am two weeks post op 14lb. It may not seem much but I'm happy with slow weight loss. I am hypothyroid ( hashi mottos). It's hard for me to lose any weight so this is the main reason I got the surgery. It's really hard for me to avoid solids. I drink 8 oz of drinkable kefir yogurt each morning and drink 4oz protein shake. However I'll munch on whole grain crackers about 6 of them. Yesterday I ate little bit of rice. I want real food, my doc has me on the purée stage and I don't like it one bit. I have no will power How can I continue without cheating? -
It Is my first day home since band removal (slept in my own bed last night after four days in the hospital). I feel like I got beat up and my entire body hurts, joints and all. I still feel the "phantom lap band" pains and they used surgical glue to close the 5 incisions. I was sleeping in recovery unit after surgery for about 4 hours. Full body pain and severe stomach, neck, back and throat pain (from tube during surgery). Clear liquid diets for now and liquid hydrocodone for pain. I also got xanax to help me fall asleep. My diet consists of broth, creamed soups, Jello, ice cream, pudding, yogurt, Sorbet, flan, broth, and water. Going to eat this diet for the next week or so and then slowly introduce new foods like oatmeal and eggs. I will keep everyone updated as time goes on. I feel like crap today but did mange to sleep through the night on my back. I woke up one time during the night to use bathroom and take my medication dose (every 6 hours). My husband has been absolutely AMAZING helping me through this and running errands for me. I could not have done this without him. I do suggest having some help when coming home from hospital. Especially when it comes to picking up my meds from pharmacy (hard to find liquid narcotics) and running errands. I am not allowed to drive so he has really stepped up and he never left my side. Hopefully I will improve over the next few days. I do not think I will be going to work tomorrow especially because I cannot drive. I will take it one day at a time. My husband may drive me to work if I am feeling up to it, and I will possibly do part-time days this week if anything. I will keep everyone ppsted as time moves on. I also tried my best to keep my band once removed, but the state I live in sends it to pathology and cannot give back to the patient by law... what a bummer!!!

Im so disappointed in myself. I have been craving foods that aren't good for you. Up until the last couple of days. I have been able to fight it off. But today I have eaten all day long. My food choices are not as bad as they were before WLS (most everything has protein in it). but I can't believe I have eaten so much. Today I've eaten : breakfast: Greek yogurt w/ protein granola. Snacks all day 🤦♀️ (unknown amounts) I've gone back several times for a handful of granola and bbq Pork rinds lunch 4oz of honey baked ham and 2oz of mashed potatoes supper Greek yogurt w/ protein granola I never got any restriction feeling but I am so miserable now! I know tomorrow is a new day but I worry I've gotten the taste of junk and I'll release to my old ways

Anyone have surgery on Jan26 2010? If so how much have you lost so far?
pj2010 replied to Victorid76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 1/25 and am down 25 since that day. I seem to lose about 1.2 a week and though I'd love to drop 10 a month, I'm satisfied with 1/week. I admit, I havent' started exercising yet. I was filled to 5cc in a standard band the day of surgery and never felt any restrictions or fullness. I had 1cc put in 2 days ago and though I have no problem with my salad/fish/yogurt/veggies, I do feel some restrictions. I have figured out that water is so key in this battle. I try to remind myself that it took years to put on and so a year to get off the 88 pounds is very reasonable. 1 day at a time, 1 bite at a time, trying to remember..it's only food. I am in control, not it! -
What the heck is goin on?
EmeraldCoastPhotog replied to rachel1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have to agree with others. It does get better. I have been banded about three weeks now and feel great. I have to say the reason I feel I have done so well with recovery is I walked.... and walked.. and walked. I did have lots of backdoor gas. and growlies. I used gas-x they helped. What I think really helped me was when I started drinking "good belly". GB are pro-biotic drinks I found in the grocery store by the yogurt. That got the good bacteria back in my intestines. Within a day or two of starting the GB, all the growlies and gas were mostly gone. Hang in there. You will feel better soon! -
800-1,000 Calories
kzoojason76 replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greek Yogurt. My NUT also told me to start adding some 100% fruit juice in to get more calories. So I drink a little more OJ -
Quick answer myth. I can eat about a half a cup of food, but that depends on what food I am eating. One can eat a lot more soup and yogurt than say meat.

800-1,000 Calories
Julie norton replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yogurt can help. Refried beans/cheese if tolerated and ok by doc. Tofu (I like baked and flavored in the package). Perhaps sample other protein drinks and bars? Good luck. Keep trying!! -

Help! Need advise on son's band.
Bea1128 replied to crwagpac98's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as he's getting plenty of water, I wouldn't worry too much. He's drinking Isopure, so he's getting protein. There is also milk, sugar free popsicles, and jello. For the mushy stage there's pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, any kind of soup is good. There are tons of cream based soups, surely there's one he likes out there. If it's a chunky soup, just puree it or mash it up really fine. Right now is a healing time and this is only his 3rd day post-op. As long as he isn't getting dehydrated he's fine. -
I live where it's colder in summer and I like a hot chocolate after dinner. Early out I made a mocha using Starbucks Via Decaf instant coffee, chocolate Protein powder and soy milk. You might try letting the coke go flat and then drinking some if you are really missing it. I got my sweet fix on with greek yogurt sweetened with splenda and the Protein Drinks. My fav was French vanilla. Also like the Lipton Diet Green Tea with Citrus. Lynda

Wow really? I still have to have liquids. Though I mix a lightly sunny side egg up now in my cream of wheat cause I hate cream of wheat and that actually is good. No broth for me. The sodium content is out of control and I don't want to retain Water. I have 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt with cinnamon, 1/2 cup cream of chicken Soup ( tonight I did cream of potatoe with pepper and garlic powder yum!), sugar free Jello snack pack, two six ounze skim milk cellucor Protein shake and 1/4 cup of cream o wheat. I eat a TON of sugar free Popsicles and super cold crystal light. I try and walk as much as I can a day. Day 2 was a block but day 8 I can do 1/4 mile. I sleep majority of the time. I can't wait for baby food in a week and have a variety up in here! 23 lbs today!! Day 9

If you can make it, you can puree it. Personally, I've been surviving mostly on greek yogurt, flavored-up cottage cheese, scrambled eggs with cheese, pureed super-spicy chicken taco meat, and refried Beans.

On The Verge Of Mental Collapse
socalfosh replied to MouseOnTheMile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mouse, I'm with you and I feel your pain. You have 6 days, you will drop the pounds, I'm sure of it. I'm on day 8 of a 30 day liquid pre op liquid diet. I'm allowed pudding, yogurt and cottage cheese but that sure is disgusting after a while. Instead of chicken Soup broth, I've ordered pho a couple of times and just eat that broth. It's yummy. Like you, my doc takes weight loss as an indicator that the liver is shrinking. If you're compliant, you will succeed. Also like you, my doc will cancel if I don't lose the weight, I am required to lose 23 pounds and my pre op start weight is 232. My first week I only lost 3.5 pounds so I've dedicated myself to the gym from now until 11/25 which is the day before my surgery. (Minus Sunday's :-)) mentally this is really difficult, but I just think about how fast time flies and I try to focus on Xmas coming up. By then, we will be on mushy/solids and will have lost 20 plus pounds, right? (Ish) time flies doesn't it, can you believe it NOVEMBER already? Holy cow. Well just blink, and it's December. Blessings to you all. Xoxo -
I think this may be the same article, from a site that doesn't require a password. It's a PDF, 414 kb. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/store/10.1002/bies.201400071/asset/bies201400071.pdf?v=1&t=hzxncpc31743f53f FYE, please confirm it's the same article. Great reading. I'm definitely keeping the daily Greek yogurt and I'll be adding some pickled foods. Lynda

My Surgery Tomorrow is OFF!
jane13 replied to New life 2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@New life 2016 - you are also going to need to eat differently after they look at that tooth and you may be able to do a modified pre-op type diet as well. Greek yogurt has good bacteria you will need to help with the penicillin they are going to pump into you. This type of dental issue can be very serious follow the doctors orders. Be safe and healthy first then do surgery... -
Pre-op Diet starts....TODAY! Yay
honk replied to braziliangirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To original poster. For yogurt look for the Greek style as it will have twice the protein for the same calories. You can add Splendra if the taste is too sour for you. -

I am eating like this: cream of wheat or protein shake around 7. Water water water. 1c soup at lunch water water water. Cottage cheese or yogurt around 5 water water water. 1c soup at 7 water water water, and then another protein shake or yogurt before bed.....
