    Anxiety through the roof! Help!

Your anxiety is TOTALLY normal! I'm a mom, I get it. I was pretty terrified too. But I am now 10 months post op and have NO REGRETS! You will get through this! I want to piggy back on the person who said there is no safer place than an OR table. I agree. If your surgeon thought there was a reason why you might not make it, and that the risk was greater than having a successful outcome, they wouldn't let you have surgery. I know you are scared...but do it anyway. Conquer the fear! You're going to learn so much about yourself and your capabilities after this surgery. It's as much a self love adventure as it is a weight loss one!

    Nausea and vomiting question

Hello Banders, My surgery is 4-28-10. My biggest fear is being nauseated and vomiting. :frown: Is this a daily occurance if you eat correctly and do not over eat? What exactly is PB and what causes it? How long did it take you to figure all of this out? Also, is it difficult at first to keep up your nutrition when returning to work. I need lots of brain power at the office and when I don't eat I can't think straight. The unknown is what is scary. I know its a learning process, but I don't want to feel sick. I look forward to your replies.

  5. @@Queen P the "bad" stories frequently stick out to newbies et al your story and others like them make people feel good, optimistic lost 90 lbs?? don't look at me, i didn't take them wonderful attitude, weight loss, and pics too high blood pressure gone, joint issues too wrap them both up (other health issues too) and you get "quality of life" as you put it health, happiness, success, what more could you ask for?? maybe those last 12 lbs to GOAL?? (no hurry, patience, last few lbs are hard to get off ) that's ok - you'll appreciate them more when it happens "steamy love affair with hubby?" -_-boyfriend too keep up the wonderful job i know you will kathy congrats @ proud grammy thank you for being so encouraging! ! I love youuuu...lol My hubby has never made me feel bad about my weight!! Now I am back to the size I was when I got married!! My hubby is very happy because his reward is goood for always supporting and loving me no matter what....lol I also can run around with my VERY ACTIVE 6 and 10 year old children! Oh my goodness, even if you didn't make a number goal, look at where you are! Those # goals are hard to make once you set them! Our bodies sometimes just do not comply and we say we want to lose 10, but we only lose 9. Did we fail? Oh, I don't think so, we LOST 9 pounds!!! That's why I never set goal #s. Mine are more behavior based. You've done awesome!! Keep up the GREAT work!

    whats the difference???

so my insurance has three requirements before they will cover the surgery 1.)BMI 40+ 2.)morbidly obese for the last 5 years and 3.)21 years of age and above. since I'm only 19 and have no medical reason YET my DR told me today that she will not recommend me for it but she send them a letter saying that i have requested it. now how is that any different from me saying it? if the insurance company requires a Dr recommendations then why bother to send a recommendation from me??? I'm not a doctor!!!! well in the mean time I'm drinking more water than i ever have, I'm buying a bodybugg and i started parking really far away from where ever it is I'm going. i figure thats better than nothing
  8. Hey everybody! So excited for the transformation. I fly out on June 7 (my birthday) for the operation on the 8th. I started my pre-op diet early so I could have a shot at lowering my BMI enough to save $500. So far down 13 lbs in 10 days. Need another 18 lbs in the 3+ weeks left. Anybody else going in at that time? Some questions... Protein drinks vs powders. Does it matter? I've been using Atkins and EAS ready to drink and both seem fine. Any suggestions on this? What should I bring with me? Gas-x? Chicken boullion? My wife wants to come but stay at the Marriott while I am in the hospital. Will it be easy for her to come and visit and are there fun things for her to do in the area? Speaking of which...we arrive fairly early on the 7th and will have most of the day in TJ. What would be a fun thing for us to do that I might not have the energy for after the surgery? Thanks for all your help! Dave
  9. Hi everyone. I'm so glad I found this board. I'll tell you my story and try to keep it short. :Dancing_wub: Been heavy since I was 10 and I have tried everything. Weight Watchers, Optifast, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig... etc....etc... Well I'm still heavy and I'm at about 40 BMI, I don't necesarrily have health issues that I know of. EX: diabetes, sleep apnea etc. But I'm going tomorrow to meet with a surgeon for the Realize band. I'm just so sick of being fat and unhealthy. I called my insurance company and checked with them to make sure I will be covered and they did say yes as long as it's medically necessary and done as an out patient. Cross your fingers for me... I really need to do this!

XP: Successful Bandsters Past and Present

I think the three things that are crucial for me are 1, exercise, 2, cutting carbs and sugar 3, cutting down snacking. Iv had a few setbacks, a heat rash that spread and spread until I had to go see a dermatologist and lost a month not walking or exercising. A cruise set me back and other cruises planned, so Im not going to set any weight loss records. Lost the weight before and pushed and pushed, but then like you I got tired of "dieting" and ate all the fried and sugary foods I wanted and gained it back very very fast. This time Im doing it slow but sure. Im not depriving myself like I did before, just being better about some foods and making sure I walk/jog, which I just got back to a week ago. I do have some treats still, if my family has a sub, I do too, but not every day and I might skip Breakfast if I do. My ticker doesnt reflect the weight I lost pre surgery, only the weight Iv lost since the surgery. At least Im finally back in Onederland. Iv lost the easy weight, now Im just doing 10 lbs at a time. I try and just concentrate on the ten pounds Im working on, so I dont get discouraged.
  13. Well, it's over! I was a little nervous b/c I truly didn't know what to expect. I mean, I've read others' stories but until you experience it yourself, you just don't know. It also seems my surgeon tends to do things a little differently too, so I had NO CLUE what might happen today. For once he was happy with me (he hasn't been thrilled the last 2 appts.). I've lost 12lbs in the 6 weeks since surgery (I weighed 198 on their scale) and I'm healing well. He added 1.5ccs. He had given me 1.5 at surgery and since I had such good restriction for the first 5 weeks, (I just started getting more hungry this last week) he decided that another 1.5 should be fine for now. Fill itself went well. I don't like needles in general and I really don't like this one in particular. Damn thing hurts! Couldn't react though b/c my 2yr old was with me! Felt fine, could swallow Water, etc. By the time I got back to the car, I was feeling sick. For a good hour, I felt sick and just "off." Almost like soon after surgery again. He is totally AGAINST Protein shakes now that I'm on foods. Told me to eat normal but slower to make sure everything was fine. If I was having some problems, go back to soft foods. So, a few hours later, feeling better and since it'd been like 5 hours since I'd last eaten, ate a few bites of something. About 10 minutes later, not feeling so good. Nauseous and stomach just NOT happy. Nothing happened but as I'm driving down the road, I'm looking for places I can pull off if I have too! So not interested in food tonight. Gas is back with a vengeance (I don't understand that part!). I'm going to go AGAINST dr's orders and I'm having a shake for breakfast! I don't care! I don't think I can face eating something in the morning. I'm rarely that interested in food in the AM as it is. Tomorrow, I'm pretty sure it'll be the same! I'll see how it goes at lunch. It may be another shake. We'll see. I'll see him again in 4 weeks and we'll go from there. Anyway, that's my story! LOL!

    6weeks post op

I'm in the same boat, never eat over 700 calories and yet have only lost about 10 pounds, varies from day to day!
  15. I wasn't hungry for about 10 days after surgery, but as I continued to heal, I did get hungry. By the time my 1st fill appointment came, I was ready for it. Now I'm definitely ready for my 2nd one which is next week. Right now, I don't feel like I have much restriction at all. My advice to you is to still follow the rules even when you are on solid foods and are hungry. I have really tried to limit my food to the portion sizes my doctor and nutritionist recommended. Good luck! You will do great!

    Pre surgery

I feel like this is taking a long time, but then I read what you all are doing and I seem to be moving pretty quickly. October 22 will be 2 months and I will be done with all requirements by November 1st. That's like 10 weeks or so. I just hope there are no red flags on the tests and that there is still room on the surgery schedule. Sent from my LGLS992 using the BariatricPal App

  19. PLEASE EXCUSE THE LONG POST :( Hi all. I had my first VSG consultation on 4/19/2018. My surgeon told me I would need to lose 100lbs during my pre-op stage (6 months required by insurance co) and prescribed phentermine. I lost 20lbs in 2 weeks but it gave me terrible side effects (depression, suicidal thoughts, insomnia) so I quit. At that point I was faced with calling my surgeon and asking for something else and I never did it. The week following that I tried intermittent fasting and lost another 10lbs. Then, foolishly, I thought to myself just as I had a million times before, “I can do this myself!” And when it came time for my next appointment, I didn’t go. I didn’t call and cancel, I didn’t reschedule, I just. didn’t. go. I was struggling very hard with the idea of ever telling my family. My sister Kayla lost all her weight through diet and exercise and has kept most of it off for years and years and would NEVER support the idea of me have surgery. She has my dad’s ear and he would listen to whatever opinion she had about it. I live with my dad and he’d always thought if I would just exercise more and eat less the weight would fall off. I hate myself for not going to that appointment. If I had persevered, I’d be sleeved by now and well on my way to my new life but instead I gave up. The fad diet again proved unsuccessful and I put all the weight back on and then some. I’ve been lost these past nine months trying to figure out what to do and then last week Kayla was home visiting and she handed me a stack of papers. She had gone to a WLS seminar, my skinny sister, and taken pages upon pages of notes. She had done research. She had prepared a speech to tell me it’s time for me to do something about this. Y’all, I CRIED. So now, tomorrow, I’m scheduling another consultation and I’m DOING THIS. I FINALLY have my family’s full support and most of all I’m ready. I’m ready to stop making excuses. I’m ready to stop saying no to going to certain restaurants because I can’t fit in their booths. I’m ready to stop telling my friends that the reason I can’t go to the amusement park is because I get sick on rollercoasters when the reality is that I don’t fit. I’m ready to stop saying no to vacations that require flight. I’m ready to stop researching weight limits on everything I buy. I’m ready to have a LIFE. I have never known what’s it’s like to be a normal weight. Not ever. I’m not delusional, I KNOW this will be one of the hardest things I’ll ever do but it will be so worth the struggle. I’m looking forward to sharing this journey.
  20. Woo hoo! I love that feeling. I was a 20...now a 12, almost a 10 in certain jeans...yaaay to us!!!!
  21. I'm having a problem with drinking the amount of Water that my doctor wants me to drink a day. I'm not drinking with meals or for 1 hour after a meal (as he directed). But 1 hr after the meal, as soon as I start sipping on water, I start to feel hungry. I know that it's probably because I'm washing all of my food through the band, but I don't know how else to get my liquids in! Does anyone else have this problem? Right now, I am getting around it by starting a bottle of water 1 hr before a meal, and telling myself that I have to drink the water and then wait about 10 more minutes before eating. I don't know if this is a good way or not, but it seems like the only way I can get in the fluids without being hungry. I am worried, though, about stretching my pouch by drinking the water so fast. BTW, I am 3 weeks post-op, and just starting on solids.

    What I enjoy most

From the album: Life Before WLS

Horses are my true passion. This was 10/22/18, the same day as my first WLS appointment. After surgery and weight loss, I intend to ride this girl in 25-50 mile endurance races. A dream of mine!

    Newbie here and totally lost

the first step is to find a good surgeon in your area and go to his/her free seminar,if we knew where you lived we might be able to suggest one you will probably need a referral from your regular doctor(insist if they don't want to give you one) the surgeon will probably require you to lose 10% of your extra weight before surgery, you may need to do a sleep study, blood work, stress test it usually takes 6 months from when you see the surgeon till you get the surgery , it helps to go to your doctors support group if they don't have one find a different surgeon, support is very important

    Stress cravings

Having an incredibly stressful day. On a 1-10 scale it's a 47. And I swear I'm smelling donuts. I don't want to eat them. I have no appetite today, but I'm smelling them everywhere. The aroma is so strong and seems so real. I hate this.
