    alcohol/420

I smoke it. In fact I killed a roach a few minutes ago. Do you HAVE to be DRUNK (or high) to have a good time? I can enjoy myself perfectly without zero alcohol, so I could never understand people who must drink to have fun... And, I know you said "ignore" it, but as far as "munchies" I allow myself a bite-size chocolate and I won't over do it. I do, however, eat it extra slowwwwwwly, so as to delight in it.

Any foods permanently off your safe list?

No wheat, sugar, refined carbs, processed foods soda, coffee, or alcohol for me. Don't miss any of them.
  3. I have suffered from anxiety and clinical depression for many years. They are treated with medication. I am also an alcoholic in recovery. I was really worried about the psych evaluation. My psychiatrist was against me having the surgery for whatever reason, so my therapist completed it. He knows me very well and I was worried for nothing.

    Foods after the Sleeve

I started trying salad after a few months, I had some gurgles initially, but no ill effects after that. I don't really have that many, but I've never had an issue. Same with alcohol. I'll have a glass of wine on a rare occasion - and I did wait until about month 8 or so. I limit partly because it does effect me much quicker than before and I most times I just want to get the most out of my weight loss efforts until I reach goal. But it is a personal choice

    Lowest Weight?

After weight loss phase I worked myself up to about 1800-2000 cals a day, BUT I was also exercising moderately to high every day. However, I gained about 6lbs during pandemic due to decrease in regular exercise (and increase in desserts and alcohol, lol). So I cut my cals to about 1200-1500 (and exercised a little bit more regularly, but not to pre-weight-gain levels cuz I'm lazy) around mid-summer and am basically back to 115lbs today (weighed in at 115.6 this morning). Soooo....based on this, if I exercise every day then I can maintain at 1800-2000 cals a day. If I stick to the amount of exercise that I am currently doing, I am guessing I can maintain at around 1700-1800 cals a day. If I don't exercise at all, it would probably be around 1500. Keep in mind though that other factors need to be considered to determine each persons' calorie maintenance level (age, metabolic rate, medication, malabsorbative functions of different surgeries, thyroid function, etc. etc....)
  6. I dont know about this... I know alcohol is supposed to hit you harder but this i'm not sure
  7. My 2cents. It seems people on this board have mentioned that they still smoke cigarettes after surgery, so from that prospective it probably isn't any worse - from the smoke/inhaling side of things. Most people I know have been told to quit smoking for a time period prior to and after surgery to aid in healing. As for adding it to recipes???? Don't use the recipe that the coffee shops use in Amsterdam. Their chocolate cake tastes horrible. LOL Fab - I would agree that alcohol is probably harder on your stomach .... especially after my personal experience last weekend : ( oops! I thought I could drink one entire margarita. Nope. My limit is about half.

    Acne

I'm 30, got sleeved on 4/28. I tend to have slight acne problems anyway but last night I went crazy. My face, chest, and back are TERRIBLE!!! my boyfriend tried to help last night with alcohol on my back last night. This is definitely the worst it's been. And my breath isn't so great either. Ahhh!! I'm a monster!!! Haha

    8 months post op

WOW!!! You are Beautiful! Your skin just glows!! I don't know if anyone has said this or not but CROSS ADDICTION is REAL!! When we can't have food to help us deal, sometimes we move to other things: alcohol, sex addiction, exercise. We all need to be careful here because it is a slippery slope. I am not saying this in a bad way. I just want you to be aware. My hubby said that he hoped I was addicted to sex. LOL NOPE but I do love to shop online and clothes, boots, and purses are my things that I overdo for sure!! Just be aware,

    Really disgusted

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that! I don't use Facebook (for many reasons, LOL) but I would imagine that making a general post like that would likely trigger some less-than-supportive responses, particularly if you have lots of acquaintances through FB who aren't sensitive to your feelings or just don't know your story. And, as we all know, EVERYONE is an expert on YOUR weight loss. I have told certain friends that I'm close to (usually the ones that I eat with quite a bit, because things will definitely change there!) as well as some coworkers and my boss. All but a few people have been incredibly supportive and are very excited for me. I had a similar experience as AudOne, where someone I thought would be really supportive surprised me by not being very supportive. She said that she had an aunt and a cousin who had the surgery and they developed other issues (which I later learned were replacing food with alcohol abuse, etc) so she said she was just "concerned," but it still hurt that she wasn't as supportive as I had expected. Hang in there and just think about how fierce you'll feel when you're healthy! They may just be jealous that you're taking charge and changing your life...I find that to be a fairly common issue of naysayers re: weight loss surgery. Good luck! We're always here to support you.

    True Confessions Of A LapBander

God, I'm so glad I'm not alone! My no-no's: 1. Drinking wine with Sunday dinners at the inlaws 2. Eating way too fast and not chewing enough 3. Having a cookie or brownie about 2 times a week 4. Sharing those damn orange cheetos with my kids 5. Not exercising enough 6. Too much alcohol, period. I love red wine and margaritas! Talk about empty calories...
  13. Because the questions are different in every center in every state I had to take a 340 online question test that asked a lot of the same questions just in different ways to make sure I'm not suicidal, a alcoholic or a druggie. He asked about my past and who supports me what I know about the surgery and what the risks were. then a few papers with questions about eating habits. It's different for a lot of people. I did mine last month. My name is Ashlie as well

    Disappointed!

I work at Cracker Barrel as a waitress. When I started working there years ago I struggled with all of the food. I'm sure fast food is different for it might be more available to you. For me I would have to take a scheduled break or eat after or before my shift. First for me anyway , after working with the same food all the time I am tired of it. It's like working in a donut shop or pizza place, after awhile you might eat it out of conveniece but it is not what you crave. Try to ask yourself if you really want it or is it the idea it is front of you. Bring your lunch, suck on a mint, drink lots of water. Come prepared. Also something that really helped me especially on pre op clear liquid diet was I did not say to myself, "oh that looks good" I said ewwwwww, that is not going to help me. I believe working in the food industry that it is more mindless eating, if you do crave it you know it is the bad carbs your addicted to. Start off treating yourself to something somewhere else. Once you break the habot of MC"D"S food amd swear it off then you can concentrate on starting to make better food choices. Right now your like an alcoholic working in a bar. It doesn't work. Your mindset has to change totally or definitly get a new job.

    Self fills.

This is SUCH a bad idea. With all the "superbugs" out there, I wouldn't want to risk giving myself an infection by trying to save myself some bucks on a fill. I've heard of way too many people who have had to have their ports removed and replaced or even lost their bands due to an infection, usually resulting from a fill. I don't know about you, but I don't keep any antiseptic besides rubbing alcohol at home, and I don't trust that to be sterile enough. Just my .02 cents.

Serious Question. How is WLS the "wrong way"?

Easy?? S'cuse me? There is nothing Easy about the lap band, it's a tool to work with to help me lose weight and become healthy but it's not easy! Surgery of ANY kind is dangerous , there is the risk of dying, especially when one is obese and having surgery. There are also MANY post op complications that can occur incld the risk ones body may reject foreign objects in it.... I know that "skinny" people think fat people are lazy, over eat, ect., food is an addiction just like drugs, gambling, alcohol, smoking ect., just it SHOWS ...IF we brought fat on ourselves then SO did every druggie alcoholic, gambler, sex ect ect addict out there!! Plus one can NOT STOP eating, one can STOP all other addictions and Never have to have them ever again, but you can't stop eating food. For that reason I consider a Food Addiction worse than any other. Also some obese people have truly legit medical issues. I, for instance, have PCOS which makes it VERY HARD to lose weight..even WITH the lap band, I have to eat less, and work harder than the average person to lose weight because of it, & I may never be as thin as I want to be simply because my body fights me on it. There is NO cure for PCOS and it wreaks havoc on my body. I am NOT using PCOS as an excuse by any means I am simply stating it makes it That much harder to lose weight I quit smoking cold turkey over a year ago...never looked back..I will never smoke again, yet food...I can't not eat...Oh how I wish I could...one has to eat to survive, so one has to Re-learn what to eat, portion control....it's hard ...everything in our society promotes Over eating and Huge portions...Yet...it also promotes Thinness...an oxymoron if you ask me! I agree Mountaingirl, if there were a surgery for those things it would be hailed as genius! Fat is the last frontier that can be abused...Overweight ppl are discriminated against, abused, made fun of..looked down on...you name it and fat people have had to endure it!! Do NOT be ashamed about getting WLS! Stand tall & proud! It is NOT an easy way out! Be PROUD of who you are and what you have accomplished with WLS! it is a tool that you used to help become a healthy person! Never be ashamed of that! If someone puts you down for having WLS...tell them to kiss your newly skinny butt! HA! Holy crap I just saw how much you lost in 5 months! OMG you go girl!!! I think I will think I'm in heaven if I lose that much!!! I am the same height as you and only 5 lbs more than you! course I just started this 2 weeks ago...but a girl can dream! So...Yup I had WLS...Look at ME....I stand proud and tall and anyone who wants to put me down for it can kiss my butt!!!

Ugh need to vent about a Husband that doesn't understand!

Some people who have never been there just can't understand. "There" can be many things, including: weight problems substance abuse problems mental health problems Can an alcoholic stop drinking just because they know they should? Can someone who is depressed just snap out of it? I think this is one of those things that your husband just can't understand.

    Lovenox Injections

I took them in hospital and then quit after a discussion with the doc. I didn't like the heprin/coumadin risks, but for some its vital so do what your doc says, but feel free to question. It shouldn't be routine..it should be patient based. That said, I gave myself those types of shots (hormones and meds) for three years while trying to have or carry a successful pregnancy. A great deal of your problem (and any normal human) is that it's counterintuitive to stick a needle in your body...so you have to get over the mental game. I myself had to do it alone, no one could talk to me, look at me, bother me, etc. Total silence. Like a tummy poking ninja stealth.... A tip to avoid pain and bruising (which should not happen with each shot). The best thing to do is to ice the area by holding an ice cube on your shot location for a min or two, then quickly wipe with the alcohol swab and inject quickly into the location. (Have your shot all ready to go, alcohol pads open and on top of their container). Additionally if you pinch about an inch worth of skin and fat up and then do the icing and injection, pinching firmly but not hard, you will find it goes easier. If you find the ice a pain, just do the pinch. By the time you are done with the shots you will be an expert. The ice helps with the med stinging and can reduce bruising if you are hitting a blood vessel (there is nothing dangerous to hit in the fat so don't let that freak you out). You can also bruise by going in too slow. See....I got nothing out of the baby attempts, but it did make me an expert on gut shots so there's a silver lining out there right? heh heh
  19. I started drinking at 18 months and 3 sips hit me like 3 glasses. be careful. alcohol also adds a lot of calories. I started to drink more and gained 6 pounds

    Alcoholic drinks after surgery

The older I get, the longer it takes me to recover from drinking any amount of alcohol. I always feel like crap the next day. I'm inferring that RNY will just make all of that worse. Not sure it's worth it.

    August Schedule

If the cheeseheads were not so heavy the possibility of wearing it would probably be greater, which also includes the amount of alcohol that was in my body. Anyway I get that asked quite often! I am a season ticket holder and the tailgating rocks! What else do you have to do in the winter????:crying:
  22. Thanks for all the great advice! Any idea of what specific medications can't be mixed with alcohol??? Or that would be really really bad with alcohol?

    Alcohol consumption.. Beware!

Thanks all! I'm about 10 months post op & 135-140 lbs. I've had no problem with 2 glasses of wine (other than the buzz), but I don't think I've had more than 1-2 hard alcohol drinks since surgery, so last Sat was a first. I think a large part of it was I went into the evening dehydrated. So the alcohol just made it worse. I'm much much better today. Stomach's still a bit angry, but very much on the mend. Be careful y'all -- we don't live in the same body we used to!!

Hi same person different account [emoji1] After talking to my Dr I had to do a seminar then they call to make an appointment from the surgeons office after you complete that. They require 6 months of weigh ins and if you miss one they will make you start from the beginning even if it's your last appointment. So make sure you go. -psych eval -dietician eval -history and physical done by primary -labs -cardiac clearance -gi clearence. This one wasn't a normal thing I was already seeing him so that's why it was required. -support group agreement. That was done when I was given all my paperwork. - no drug or alcohol clearence letter from primary - 2 years of primary care records - a nutrion class - a hospital wellness class After they get all that they submitted it and it was 2 weeks later I got the call to schedule. Then 2 weeks after that I had my surgery. I had mine done in Modesto. Sent from my moto e5 plus using BariatricPal mobile app
