Some docs want you to buy specific brands, but my doctor wasn't too picky. I use Flintstones Complete, Tums (calcium), and B12 (the berry flavored dissolvable tablets from Walmart- don't know the brand name). And apparently these things are working bc my lab work looks fantastic! I also take Biotin and (tmi) Colace daily. In the beginning I'd def buy some Gax X strips and children's Tylenol as well. Hope this helps!

I had my surgery on Tuesday May 15th. Despite dealing with the extra pain that came along with correcting an unknown hiatal hernia, recovery has been ok except for the one nagging incision. It’s seriously burns (it’s not infected) or aches all day long unless I keep an ice pack on it. Does any one have any suggestions on how alleviate this? Also I don’t ever have the urge to pee anymore (sorry TMI) I just go because my brain thinks it’s been too long. Someone tell me I’m not going insane.

Oh my! I got stuck last night and about scared myself silly! I was banded in Sept. and have thought I was learning how to eat correctly, etc. The fill I got last week has turned everything on its ear though. I have obviously not learned enough up til now because now I am finding out what all the more experienced folks have warned about the tiny bites and slowing waaay down really mean! I ate half a baked chicken thigh last night, pretty much without thinking, because halfway through the last bite I started hurting and pb'ing. I had to spit out what was in my mouth...and for a few minutes couldn't even swallow my own secretions! I know this is TMI, but for those of you new to this who haven't been stuck yet...I seriously don't recommend it! I'm going back on soft foods today to give it a rest, then back to square one with my eating lessons: tiny bites, go slow, chew until my jaw aches.

First off, I am already talking to my doctor, just wondering of anyone else has had this happen to them and what the outcome was. The day before I was 3 weeks out (Tuesday), and the day before I was able to move from liquids to mushy food, I got sick. It started with constipation, which I called my doctor's office and took appropriate medication for. After I took the meds, everytime I tried to have a BM (sorry about the TMI) I would throw up. The next day I would throw up even if I wasn't trying to have a BM. I couldn't keep anything down, not even Water. I called my doctor and he advised me to go to ER to get rehydrated and they could take X-rays. Since I live 3 hours from his hospital, he couldn't personally oversee my ER visit. I was admitted to the hospital, where a really spectacular nurse had to get up close and personal to help me with my bowel problems. The whole time in the hospital, I was able to keep liquids down. I was discharged Friday night and went to see my doctor the next morning (he very conveniently came to town that weekend). I had not thrown up again at this point, so I told him everything was fine now. We went shopping after the doctor visit, then went to eat. I only had water and was only about 2 ounces in when my chest tightened, my shoulders started hurting and I felt like everything was sitting in my throat. When I got home, I threw up all the water along with some foam. Since then, I haven't been able to keep anything down. I only get about an ounce in and everything starts all over again. I take slow sips, my water is at room temperature. I tried a Protein shake this morning and not even that would stay down. I really don't want to go back to the hospital. All my X-rays showed no blockage so I really don't know what could causing this.

Hello I just recently had a stomach virus which was absolutely awful. It was coming out both ends(sorry TMI). Anyways I was dry heaving and vomiting (mostly just liquids no hunks of food). Now, I am sore in my chest area and am hoping all is okay with my band. I was unable to eat the whole day I was sick. I was able to eat a few bites of salad w/grilled chicken and then I was full and some food was coming back up. Should I stick with shakes, and soft foods for the next day or 2?

Suggestion only but make sure to follow your doctors instructions and contact him/her always for all inquiries, concerns, pain etc. Everyone's body is different and reacts, recovers differently. When start to fill better and you can drink or sip more, try to get your Protein drinks in. Your taste buds are out of control right now but and most protein shake/drinks will taste awful, especially the powder ones. I highly suggest Premier Protein ready to drink. I get mine at costco. I believe it's an 18 pack for about 24.99. Sometimes on sale w/their coupons. They have it in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavor a. Each drink is 16oz, 30mg of protein at I believe calories 160. By far these have been on my daily intake. I also eat the Fage yogurt daily, 8oz 0 fat and 22mg of protein. Once you start to get your protein intake in, in conjunction to making sure you can try to get in all your Water, you will feel better and energized in time. Please ensure to have your surgeon check your labs for Vitamins deficiency. After my surgery on 2nd week out, I thought I was drinking enough protein but was so paranoid about not drinking enough water I was actually over drinking, flushing my protein out tmi but urinating too much. I was finally at stage to take crushed vitamins and he recommended I take extra Iron and suggestion Brad called Vitron-C (take 1 daily but on menses 2x daily) which I can only find online Amazon and WalMart and cheap. I also needed Vitamin D3 and take 10.000mg daily. I get at Walgreen and look for sales of the smaller tablets or small gel when they have sell buy one get one free. For hair loss which is normal and will eventually come but will slow or stop around your 6/7 month out. I take the following Biotin Zinc And the iron helps for hair loss too You must also take your daily multi vitamin and Calcium daily. B12 helps for extra energy. I hope you feel better soon, be assured you're not alone and many of us have gone through many similar symptoms you're experiencing. Always check in with your doctor or his nurse. Inbox me if you'd like more info or can answer more concerns. I'm 2 Yrs out from my wls had and was not able to exercise, lost many inches but have not met my personal and desired goal, however I'm super happy have gone from size 24 to 14/12, not sure what my bmi is but I'm 5'7. Now dealing with new medical issues such as rashes from lose skin and recently went to see dermatologist and being treated for it, need it. Feeling content though. Your in my thoughts and available if you need more info. Keep strong, know you're not alone, and you are going to get past this, take everything day by day. Healthy and positive vibes going your way!! Take good care! PS Peppermint tea is the best tea go have handy for gas, tummy aches and nausea! Also have a magnesium drink available for constipation since its also part of our healing process and so much daily protein intake. I get Walgreen's brand cherry flavor or Phillips brand. But you have many to chose from I drink to cleanse 1 a month or when I haven't had a bowel movement within 3 days. Tip for me when needed is I start to get a pain towards my right side of upper tummy. -

6 days post op and still having gas pains
kellyw74 replied to Martie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The gas for me was HORRIBLE!! The only pain I had was the gas. Nothing helped. I was miserable for about 4-5 days. Then when it finally decided to break loose, I got really bad gas and was soooo happy to fart!! TMI, I am sure, but I felt so much better after about 10 of them. Then I got the squirts and that just made me feel even better. Those lasted for about a week. It sucks, but it is what we have to go thru. Gas X did nothing for me!! Walking didn't help, only time made it better. Hope your's breaks loose soon!! Kelly -
When Was Your First Bm Post Op?
Guest replied to TiredOfChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through the same thing. I felt perfectly fine too. I was told by my Doctor to take Magnesium Milk but it tastes terrible. I finally went on my own on the 8th day (I use a bidet -- definitely helps), but it was just ED -- Explosive Diarrhea, TMI... (I'm sorry!) -
So far I've lost 27 lbs - wish it was more but still happy... But I've had lots of non-scale victories! I can put my shoes on without using two hands to pull a leg up to reach my feet - they just come up on their own! (TMI warning ...) I realized that I used a public restroom in a regular stall and didn't have to fight to get out of it!!! All my co-workers are saying they see the changes already - I don't see much myself, but it will come! Thanks to everyone here who has been encouraging me! I'm on facebook if you want to add me - I post my progress and struggles every day... booklady314@comcast.net :-)

Missing your old foods?
bambam31 replied to Fluffyhusker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
food demons will always have to be managed - banded or not. The band is a tool which does give you a competitive edge to defeat them, but you must still have the will power say "no" or "stop." This is especially true in the evenings when it's easier to cheat the band. I have to be very careful not to get a "flow" going, but if I do I have to say STOP! By "flow" I mean that the pouch is well lubricated (mucous and/or beverage - TMI, I know) and you can train food without ever filling the pouch. Many people will tell you that if this is happening you need a fill. Not so fast... Most of the day I'm very restricted (I wouldn't want it any tighter at all!) but by evening I CAN eat far more than I should - I just have to say no. It still takes will power and a close eye on the energy balance. I go in cycles similar to this. You can't be 100% on your game all day every day, and day after day. There are periods when I'm very focused and wouldn't consider eating junk food ; Periods where I eat less than perfect foods in a controlled manner ; Periods where I eat waaaay toooooo much junk food and have to make a conscious intervention. The difference with the band/exercise lifestyle is that the cycle is much easier to control/break than before. Brad -
O.K I think I'm so nervous that I am starting to substitute sex for food! I just attempted to molest my hubby again and this just started! I really don't think about food anymore just sex, sex, sex...it actually calms me down when I get antsy. Am I the only one who has experienced this?

Lol. On this diet I could appreciate a little laxative tmi -
I was sleeved on 8/10 and so far so good until today. I was abled to drink more so i decided to aim for the 64 oz. Ive been drinking the Isopure Alpine punch for protein, plain room temp water, sf popcicles, diluted juice. Well today i decided to drink the ensure that i got from the hospital (6oz). Im not sure if that gave me diarrhea or just the increase in liquids. Either way i'm terrified of getting dehydrated. Any suggestions?

Being Tested For C. Diff. (Clostridium Difficile) Ugh!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello #4, Well it happens from strong antibiotics or you can get it from someone else who has it. For me I was on heavy antibiotics so it wiped out my natural balance in my intestines/bowels. The worse part is I'm not contagious if I have it so I have to be extremely careful so no one else in my family gets it. Craziness! The antibiotic caused it and get this...what heals it is yet another antibiotic. It can cause bigger issues if it's left too long to fester so if I do have it, I'm sure hoping we caught it early enough to not cause colitis or other issues. I had to look this up because naturally the surgeon only mentioned it didn't explain it all. I'm sure she will once we know for sure. It's just not pleasant. It causes cramps or pain in the abdomin but, my period is now 8 weeks late as well so I thought at first that was part of it too. Hoping to hear soon. I think I threw the woman off in the lab. She gave me the sample cup, toilet guard, baggie and told me to put the date and time I did the sample. Then bring it back to her and they'll test it. I think she thought I was going home. Heck...didn't take long to give the sample. TMI I know but, that's how sick I'm feeling with this right now. Yuck! Besides if they have to culture it for 3 days I didn't want to wait yet another day. Thank you for your support. I appreciate it. I keep saying....this will all be worth it. It's for the best....as I squeeze my cheeks and pray to the porcelain Gods LOL -

Birth Control Pills. Need some feedback
mbanja replied to Iluvcarbs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have tried alot out there. The Ortho tricyclen made me a crazy woman. I tried Merena...made me crazy too. I could be sitting on the cough watching TV with my hubby and all of the sudden get pissed off for no reason. I mean teeth gritting, ears red, wanting to throw something pissed off. I also tried the diaphram, my hubby didn't like it cuz it would rub the head of his penis raw....sorry I know TMI, but its true. Plus it is a pain to put in and take out. I liked today's sponge. I used it for about a year after I decided it was the Ortho tricyclen making me crazy. Again it is a pain to put in and take out. My doc finally believed me when I told her the hormone birth control and others like it were gonna eventually make me kill somebody so she changed me to Ortho Novum which has the opposite hormone that tricyclen does....I have been on it for about 4 months now and it seems to be working out good for me. Every one is different though. The trick is finding what is best for you! -
I Dont Feel Any Different
LadyIvy replied to neeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We tried about a week an a half out, it was too soon. The movement made the muscles in my stomach very sore. Tried again a few days later, but I had to keep my tummy from moving too much for about 2 weeks! I think everyone will be different but the muscle healing process should be similar. NOW THAT is TMI, but I hope it helps!
