    Post op diet experience

The first 10 days were liquid only and then onto pureed foods. At 30 days I started on soft foods which lasts until 12 weeks out. I'm nearly 8 weeks out now and still can't manage most meats and canned fish (fresh fish is ok).

    Plastics!

What time of plastics did you get? assuming you meant "kind" and not "time", lol... Tummy Tuck w/ Flank Lipo & Muscle tightening Breast Lift Arm Lift How much did you pay out of pocket? approx 15K (Canadian) for all three (I was able to get the panniculectumy portion of the TT covered by insurance) Pain? YES. For me, it was worse than WLS (though I have read others who say the opposite). While my WLS pain was probabably a 3 or 4 out of 10 on the pain scale, plastics recovery was like a 7, maybe 8. Of course, this is just me, everyone will have a different pain tolerance. Recovery? 3 months until I was completely back to normal (though the extended recovery was alot my fault, as I kept doing more than I should, in terms of exercise, and would re-injure myself) Was it worth it? Definitely. Would do it all again in an instant. How long did you have to wait Wanted to get it done about 3 months after goal (Aug 2019), but had to wait as my surgeon was booked up until the following spring. He eventually opened up a day just for me, as I was getting 3 procedures done and I would be the only patient he would work on. So....ended up getting it done in Dec 2019, which was 7 months after goal, and 14 months post WLS. Ladies- if you got breast implants how big did you go? Not applicable: Just had a breast lift, and i LOOOOOOOVEEEE it.
  3. Kleah73, congratulations on your success thus far. The fact that you lost some weight on your own, will give you an advantage on this journey. I had my surgery on 8/25/19. Prior to my surgery I had lost 35 pounds over a two year period. My highest weight was 315 pounds and I cried when I saw that. My weight at surgery was 280 pounds. Today I am at 171 pounds. I was hoping just to get to 200 pounds when I started so I am over the moon with where I am. I am so accustomed to my modified eating habits (I haven’t had a coke since 8-05-19!) and exercise routine (30 minutes minimum at least 5 days a week) that it has become routine. Just stay positive, keep up the good work and enjoy the rewards of this new adventure.

    NSV - what are yours?

My Mom died 10 years ago and my sister and I divided her personal belongings between us. My mom had a fabulous wardrobe but because I was at my top weight, I couldn't wear anything of hers. Last month, I asked my sister to pick me out one or two items that were Mommy's since I can fit them now. My sister generously picked out several of her most gorgeous outfits and I can fit them all now! It feels surreal, like a dream. It's another way to connect with her now that she's in heaven. ☺️

    800 calorie

Its not just water, I get at 90 plus of liquid in. My mornings start out with a big mug of bone broth instead of coffee and that is about 12 ounces, and we farm so this is my "off time". By off time I mean I am in the house most of the day. So I am up about 6am and after my bone broth I fill up my cirkul bottle with just plain ice water and it holds 20 ounces. I make a reminder on my phone to chime every hour (not an annoying alarm, just a light chime) and when it chimes it just reminds me to check where I am on my bottle. I have black sharpie marks on the bottle to kind of show where I need to be and now I am normally further along than where I need to be, by 10 am I try to be done with that bottle. I refill that bottle and turn up the flavor on it, I was getting tired of plain ice water so I pick a different flavor every now and again and set the reminder on the phone again for 2pm. By to 2pm I am past 50 ounces and just keep going until bedtime, I actually take a bottle to bed with me as well. I do another bone broth in the evening for more protein and water. I do spend a lot of time peeing. I don't know how this will work once I am out in the field this spring unless I wear a diaper but as long as I am in the house it works. I have also found it does help a lot with the constipation

    November 2020 sleevers

My wife and I had our surgery 11/11. We were told by our doctor to be a bit more aggressive at our 2 week appointment in regards to what we eat and we have been adding back foods at a reasonably quick rate. Yesterday my wife and I shared a two taco meal at Rubio's as they have Keto-style cheese wraps instead of the tortillas and we had shrimp tacos and saved the beans for later. We only had about 3/4 of the taco each but it was amazing that we have done so well to be able to eat shrimp already at 6 weeks. Our doctor also wanted to wean us off of protein shakes by 8 weeks, and if my protein calculations are correct, we should be just about there. As for weight loss, I am down 30lbs and my wife is down 25lbs since surgery. We both dropped 19 and 18lbs additionally during our preop. I am down 50lbs and she is down 43lbs since October 27th. Overall, I would say at this phase (the Honeymoon period) we are doing what we can to make this a success. We are trying to take photos as much as we can to show the difference. Our cloths are quite loose and I know we are going to have to downsize them fairly soon.
  8. I too stayed away from the camera and the tape measure. I wish I hadn't since the only reference I have is that I wore size 14-16 pants and now wear size 8-10.
  9. Okay. So I had my sleeve done back in October of 2017. I was doing really well and went down to 185lbs. I’m now back up to 235lbs. August of 2018 my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed in May 2019. So I feel of track and 7 days after he passed I found out I was pregnant which was very exciting and yet extremely difficult and I suffered from severe depression and just kinda gave up. I have always had reflux and issues with being sick to my stomach. My pregnancy made it worst and I have yet to lose my pregnancy weight and I feel stuck. So I have been seeing a surgeon about a revision. I’ve had several test done. I had a swallow study which said my esophagus isn’t emptying properly and a gastric emptying study done that came back as saying I have rapid gastric emptying, and my sleeve is only retaining 8% of what I eat in under 60 minutes. My Fluroro was normal and so was my EGD except for some mild gastritis. I just finished my Bravo test ( Ph test) for GERD and it came back as normal . I haven’t seen the surgeon yet, but was under the impression that if this test was normal then I won’t qualify for insurance to cover my revision surgery . I have BCBS Medicaid of Sc. I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues and were still able to get a revision or had any advice? I’m over the reflux and I’m shocked my test is normal.. HELP!..
  10. I had Rouen-y 10 years ago. I have had two kids since then and have regained all of my weight. Although that is a problem it's not the one that immediately concerns me. For a year I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with me. My symptoms are: sternum pain, chest pain and pressure, feeling of fullness when I haven't eaten anything, excessive painful bloating and gas, extreme sweating, racing heart, heart palpitations, and difficulty taking a deep breath. I have been to an allergist because they thought I had asthma, nope. I had an EGD and upper GI study done, they found little acid and a small hiatal hernia. The gastric bypass doctor put me on omeprazole which helps a little. My other doctor thought maybe it was anxiety causing the symptoms. I have tried numerous medications and have had tons of blood work! No one knows what is going on and they don't seem too inclined to figure it out. I can't keep feeling this way!!! Please help!

    Always hungry...

My pcos was diagnosed bt the GP. He prescribed me metformin but I felt very nauseous and uncomfortable. Then I fell pregnant and stopped taking all kind of medicine. My baby is 10 months old now. I did not have a single period for the first 7 months after birth. Once they started i had continues spotting. After 3 weeks the doctor prescribed me hormone tablets to stop it. After a week or two the proper heavy bleeding. The weight went up and I looked like if someone has pumped air in me. Now a days its difficult to go to the gp. All they do is attend on call. I will ask them to make a full blood test but don't think it will be possible before next year. I have messaged me surgeon and his team asking about inositol and if I can continue taking that, as it doesn't make me sick like metformin. How long did you take the appetite suppressant? My weightloss has slowed down. I will start the inositol and see how it goes. I'm just afraid of expanding my pouch. Don't want to waste all my effort and courage to get the surgery done. Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Had gastric sleeve 11/5. Pre-op diet of protein shakes and 1 meal began 10/22. Liquids only 11/4. Clear liquids 2 days after surgery. 3-4 protein shakes per day for 2 weeks for check up. Pureed food of 4-5 meals per day for 4 weeks. Last week began 3 meals per day solid food, about 1/2 cup per meal. Sticking to proteins and vegs. I weighed 355 lbs. when I started pre-op on 10/22. Today I weighed 300.0. Since late Aug I have lost 65 lbs from my high weight of 365. Today I walked 1.5 miles. I use MyFitnessPal to track proteins in my meals. I track as honestly as I can, even the sneaks of a bite while prepping etc. My meals are 1/4-1/2 cup protein and 1/4-1/2 cup vegs. If I eat a whole cup, I feel it in my chest so most are 1/2 cup. I keep an Artic near me to drink after meals (30 mins). My program theough Baylor Scott & White has had great support for me so far
  13. Hello anyone going through Kaiser? I am done with my 10 week classes and was wondering how long after do you speak to Surgeon and get surgery date? TIA

    Sleeve vs Bypass

These have been the most interesting posts and comments! Thanks! I’ve enjoyed reading them all. I had VSG for weight loss 10 years ago and had major reflux, hiatal hernia, Cameron lesions, etc.... so just recently had to have the RNY. I didn’t want to have it but I needed to for health reasons. It’s been great! I had gained back over half of the weight I lost with the VSG and have now lost over 25 pounds since this surgery. I wish I would have had the RNY 10 years ago and probably would have not had the reflux issues that I have had. But anyway, my point is that the RNY is a good surgery that will help with other health issues other than just weight loss. Good luck!
  15. Anyone else suffering from anxiety who has recently had sleeve surgery? It has been hard. Not that I've had any major issues (please god) but I'm fixated on any new symptoms and wake up with a feeling of "oh god, how I am going to feel TODAY?" I'm on anti depressants and have a great surgical team who put up with my constant questions but having health anxiety and dealing with the aftermath of an operation is no fun. Every tiny new sensation opens up a massive pit of worry. I wish I could be more positive and stop focusing so much on how I physically feel. I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself. And maybe hormones (I'm due my period in around 10 days) The general anaesthetic really messed with how I felt and I'm so tired as well. Sorry about the moaning amd groaning but I'm definitely getting buyers remorse about the whole thing... Sent from my MAR-LX1A using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Thank you so much for helping me, and yes I haven’t tried protein powder but I will try to buy some and see if I can tolerate it. 10 minutes ago my mom forced me to eat a small banana and thank goodness I felt so much better after eating it 😊, again thank you for helping me!
  17. I second the Built Bars! I've tried a lot of protein bars, and Built Bars are the best by far! (But taste is a very individual thing, and it seems like most people either love Built Bars or hate them, so I would suggest starting with one box to see if you like them.) Nature Valley protein bars only have 10 grams of protein. There are a lot of bars with higher protein. Built Bars have 17-19 grams. Quest Bars (which are available in most grocery stores) have about 20 grams. I mix protein powder into food to boost my protein intake. My go-to breakfast is half a container of Triple Zero Greek yogurt with half a scoop of protein powder, which is 19 grams of protein. Or protein oatmeal with additional protein powder mixed in. Quest protein chips are also high in protein and I often incorporate them into my meals to add a little protein (for example, crushed as a salad topping, or topped with taco meat for nachos). Can you give some more examples of things you eat and maybe we can suggest ways to add protein? What are your program's criteria for protein shakes? There are A LOT of protein shakes on the market, and if you don't like the brand you have, you can try some others to find something you like better.
  18. Thank you - I did check with her. She said she is stumped as to why it started up again (she's fully aware of the surgery) and started me on estrogen for 10 days. She said it "should" stop it, but no guarantees. Kind of frustrating... LOL!
  19. I have a protein shake everyday. I tried the Unjury, and the taste literally makes me gag. Right now, I usually have the Syntrax Nectar Cappuccino flavor (it is caffeine free) every morning for breakfast. Since my plan allows coffee/caffeine, I mix it with some coffee concentrate, Fairlife 1% milk, and water. It gives me 30 grams in one go, and tastes good. I also sometimes have all or part of a Built protein bar during the day as a snack, or lunch on the go. The whole thing provides another 17-19 grams of protein. The Built bars are really good, if you have not tried them. For lunch and dinner, I follow the protein first rule and have no problem getting my >60 grams per day (usually around 80 grams), thanks to the protein shake for breakfast. I was having more hair loss, but it got better when I started getting adequate protein. It really is that important. Getting the protein might help get your stall to un-stall. For the period issue, rapid weight loss can really mess with your hormones. Things will probably go back to normal in another few months. Check in with your doctor next time you see them. Good luck! 😊

Did your weight loss slow down and when

When I hit month 4. First three months I lost in the double digits (23,19,21 pounds) but after that it was single digits with the one exception being in July when I lost 10 pounds.
  21. So, I recently posted about hair loss. While I'm not happy that this is a side effect, it's comforting to know that some of you have gone thru this as well, and for most, your hair grew back. I'm taking all kinds of supplements in addition to the "regular" vitamins required post-op. I've added liquid iron, prenatal vitamins, biotin, and collagen. The first question is about stalling - again. I've been bouncing between 181-184 for over a month now. I'm not eating much due to the discomfort (I posted about this also). I'm desperately trying to get my protein in, but I simply can't eat enough to do that. I'm also taking the Unjury powder (which I can barely tolerate due to the taste even though I mix it into food/liquid), but still can't get anywhere near what I'm supposed to. I'm supposed to be getting in 60g-86g protein/day. Unjury only accounts for 22g/day. I can only eat enough to get about 40g-50g/day. My doctor is aware. How do I kickstart this weight loss again? Secondly (sorry to the men in the group), I'm 48 and suddenly started getting my period again. I'm on a medication that is supposed to stop it completely due to a previous medical issue, but obviously, something has changed so much with my body, that the medication, which has been effective for several years, is no longer working. I emailed my dr. and she started me on estrogen for 10 days but isn't sure why the previous medication stopped working. Have any of you ladies had this issue?
  22. I am only 10 weeks post op however for the 2 periods that I have had, cramping is excruciating and nausea for a few days before I start. Anyone else had this experience and did it improve? Side note, I have always had issues with menstruation having PCOS just seems more exaggerated currently

    Renew Bariatrics - Tijuana, Mexico

Hi! I just got done going through using Renew Bariatrics. They were fantastic! It is a company based out of the US that connects you to doctors in Mexico. They have payment plans available (no need to put everything down immediately), but require it be payed in full 10 days prior to surgery. I actually had to change my day of surgery and my coordinator was extremely flexible and helpful. There is Renew Bariatrics staff on sight to help with any issues, they check on you daily. I had Dr. Perez and the total came out to be $4199.00, and he is amazing as well as the staff. I did have someone come with me, but there were a number of people there who came alone. I was up and walking very quickly after surgery which helped tremendously with the pain and gas. Hope this helps

    Pre-op liquid diet is Bullsh*t!!!

I start the liquid diet on the 28th. I’m petrified. I have been eating for 10 people this entire month. I’m pretty sure I have gained weight, but I am not going to look until the 28th. I have actually seen where people are trying to start the liquid diet early?? HECK NO! I will eat everything in site until the 27th. I only have one week pre op. I do not think my hubs could deal with a hungry fat girl with no caffeine!! Good luck to you. I keep hearing it gets better. I’m just going to hope for the best.
