I'm not going to deny that we enjoyed this nsv. In fact as crazy as it sounds it seemed to both of us to have more girth. Either way Mrs. Fat Man was quite happy as was I -
Great NSV! Let's hope you won't be "slippin' down the shower drain any time soon! LOL

wow Michelle, great NSV - most of our huge towels wrap all the way around me now but I'm still holding on to this really grotty bath towel that I used when I was 20 and pregnant with my now 14 year old son - I have a photo of me 9 months pregnant with the towel completely wrapped around me, bump and all - and it still won't go around me yet! One day soon tho! Well done you!

If you’re a little shy, you can make your ticker private so that only you see it. ASMBS: National Society’s Opinion on Plication You may already know that the sleeve plication, or laparoscopic greater curvature plication, is a pretty new procedure. That’s why you may have a little more trouble finding a surgeon in the U.S. or getting your insurance to cover it. That doesn’t make it a bad procedure, though. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, or ASMBS, states that more scientific data is needed before it can make recommendations about the procedure. The FDA is very cautious about approving any health claims. Before any drug or medical device goes on the market, the FDA conducts clinical trials to make sure that its claims are true. In the case of sleeve plication, the technique is so new that not much scientific evidence is available. So far, it looks like sleeve plication is comparable to the vertical sleeve, and your stomach tissue is not removed. In the article, ASMBS admits that it can’t make official patient recommendations because the technique is too new, but that gastric plication is worth investigating! What do you think? If you’re considering gastric plication, do you wish there were official national recommendations? Coming Soon: Member Spotlights! We introduced them in the previous newsletter, and they’re coming soon…Keep your eyes peeled for member spotlights! Let everyone know about your new food or recipe in the forum! Don’t forget that you can always go back to try the old member challenges and post your experience. Going public is a great way to motivate yourself, and other members can learn from your experiences! The New Challenge: Share Your NSV! Okay, first of all, what does NSV mean? It’s short for a Non scale Victory, and it’s just what it sounds like. It’s a victory related to your lap-band journey but not related to the number on the scale. We all have disappointing weigh-ins at some point, but it’s not all about the weight. The journey is about getting healthy, loving life and having new, positive experiences. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the number on the scale that we forget to celebrate the other victories that are just as important. This Newsletter’s challenge is to recognize a new NSV and write about it in the Challenge Forum. An NSV can be anything that makes you realize what positive steps you’ve taken for yourself. Some possible NSV’s that you recognize might be: Going to a baseball game and fitting into the seat. Buying your new summer swimsuit in a regular store. Keeping your cool while you eat a meal with your hypercritical mother-in-law. Don’t be shy about sharing your NSV on the Challenge Forum. You can help other Sleeve Plication members learn to recognize their own NSVs and take pride in them! So that’s about it for this week’s newsletter, but there’s never a dull moment at SleevePlicationTalk.com! Come by and post often, and be sure to share your opinions, advice and feedback. See you on the boards! Well, today is my 61st Birthday. I guess no cake and no ice cream for me. Haha, maybe a frosty protein shake (actually that sound pretty good as it is still hot in Florida). I got up this AM and decided it would be nice to stand on the old scale. Well, I am down some. 2 more pounds down ..that makes 106 down..not bad. In fact, I feel pretty good about that. I am still on the "no exercise allowed" list until the Neurologist gives me the OK and that won't be until my visit on the 18th. (If then). I am walking a bit, about a mile a day but that is nothing compared to what I used to do (4-5 miles a day + a gym work out). Oh well, I do have to take care of my health. That fall has really left me with some issues. My weight loss has really slowed to a creep but, at least it is not going UP..I am thankful for that. Anyway, since it is my birthday, it is a good time to reflect on the past just a bit. A year and 2 months ago I was SHORT and EXTREMELY CHUNKY..268 pounds - baby blimp..today, 162. Still short and a bit chunky, but so much better than I was before. This journey has been worth it. Sure, I get stuff stuck, and I get miserable. I can't eat somethings that I used to enjoy but I try to figure out a way to satisfy myself with a substitution so all in all it is OK. I buy clothes in the regular department now and not in the plus size department - that is cool and I can hook my seat belt, sit in a standard size chair at the movies and on a flight..wow..my life has changed so much. My only regret..I didn't do this sooner. I get mad at myself every now and then for "breaking the rules". Don't sit there saying "what rules" you know what I am talking about. There is some really good tasting stuff out there that is a slider and goes down very nicely...This does take willpower and I am not the Queen of willpower nor patience..so I have cheated. Thanks to the band - it is just that, a cheat and not a way of life. So tomorrow is another day - a year older and hopefully wiser. I am so blessed to have a beautiful and supportive family (even though not everyone was on board with this surgery when I had it done). I will keep moving forward. Thank you to all my Lapband buddies that have been there to kick my butt when I fell off the bandwagon and encouraging me to stick with it on the bad days and to the ones who cheered with me on those NSV moments and the actual weight loss. You guys are the best - I guess becuase we are all in the same boat. Across the world in some cases, but in the same boat. I am glad I found you guys !!!! Have a great day, stay on track, get some extra exercise in this week and be proud of yourself and all that you have accomplished. Melinda in Florida

How do you spell PLATEAU??? H-E-L-P !!!
dawg replied to NancySmiles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pla.. Pluto...Plate-o...pl... P... Oh... here we go... Plato. And... more seriously. food is half the equation. Don't forget the activity. If you are exercising you may be doing some weight re-distribution. NSV's may abound while the scales stay obstinate. And if you aren't exercising... tsk tsk tsk :xena_banana::Banane03::Banane20: ....obey the Bananas and get moving! -
"This comes from the fat ass secret code book. (Don't tell anyone I let you in on it.)" Seriously, I almost spit my water on my screen laughing. Congratulations on your weight loss and NSV's!

I have taken 3 big loads of clothes the the goodwill so far. I love the feeling of cleaning out the closet. I have kept a pair of 58 waist pant and a belt that worked with it for my "Trophy". I now stop at every Kohl's I see and check out the clearance racks. I only buy pants that are 80 or 90% off and my record is paying $4.50 for a pair of nice Docker's work Khakis. I bought a leather punch pliers to put new holes in my belts and have some with 4 new holes. I love that too. Clothes fit is such an NSV!!! I love to look for sales and buy ahead. I am in a 44 pants now, but have all I need in 42 already. I am an OPTIMIST!!!! Hope you all feel so good about this too. Isn't it great to shop with normal size people in the normal size people store??? My goal is to fit into the trendiest "Levi's" and I find they stop them at 38. Figure by summer I will be there!!! Happy Fashion Show!!! TJ

I simply just can't wait!

Hilarious, that's a great idea Pac-Woman, I'm divorcing Avenue, Lane Bryant and Ashley Stewart for good too! I too am too excited to be able to go into any store and shop. I had a NSV this weekend. I met one of my friends that I haven't seen since the day before surgery and she almost fell off her chair. I'm down 32 pounds now (I need to update my ticker) and she, and everyone else said they see it in my face. Me, I see it there, my boobs, my butt! Thank you Lord, my back no longer hurts. We walked the mall shopping for shoes and then went to see a movie and then went to lunch. It's so nice not to be consumed with food and what I'm going to eat. I rarely think about it between meals. -
NSV is a non scale victory

And So Our Journey Begins...
MistyAnnMoon829 replied to MistyAnnMoon829's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It has been...14 days since my last update. My 3 month surgiversary was on the 24th and I hit 50 lbs down!!! What a difference my entire life is from 3 months ago to today. I'm adding an updated photo for comparison. I'm still sometimes making some eating mistakes, for example eating too fast, But it is very few and far between. I pretty much eat whatever I want, but I concentrate on protein. The guy I'm dating really takes my eating habits into consideration when choosing restaurants and activities and so do all of my friends/family. Went to a party this past Friday and I did drink. I'm not a big drinker to begin with but I had this surgery to live a fuller life and sometimes that includes alcohol, I got pretty drunk, and it didn't take as much as it normally would but it still took a decent amount. I have found that I get a buzz fairly easily, but it is very short term. Just had a big NSV for me, I just spent the last hour going through my closet to pick out a cute skirt/legging/boot outfit and I actually had fun. I normally would try on outfits and feel completely annoyed, but now I feel optimistic and guess what?! I don't hate my knees anymore!! I was trying the skirt on the shorter side and I loved how it looked. I'm starting to get some really nice legs, collar bones, and shoulder blades. I have leaner ankles/feet/wrists and I'm happy with my progress. 50 lbs in 3 months and you can really see it. I am happy everyday that I chose this. -
And So Our Journey Begins...
MistyAnnMoon829 replied to MistyAnnMoon829's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My birthday was on Friday, and it was pretty emotional for me, since it was the first one since my divorce this year but I didn't make bad food decisions I also am 1 lb shy of my goal of 25 lb down since surgery. I am 24 lb down since July 24. I'm not sure if I fall under the slow loser category or not but I'm pretty okay with my progress, especially since I know it's only a little over a month out. I still have a long way to go! I decided to give myself a break from protein shakes, they make my mouth taste funny and they aren't delicious. I've been concentrating on getting protein in food form, and I've been doing okay. I can definitely do better, I just don't have the room, or the desire to eat! I went out to dinner at Applebees for my birthday last night with my friends, and I had an AMAZING time, it really reminded me that I have great friends and people love me. I had the quesadilla burger and I half the patty with some salsa, it was really good. They brought out my birthday dessert, a scoop of vanilla ice cream with some chocolate sauce and whip cream and I ate two spoonfuls and wanted no more. That was huge for me, as I was a big time sweets addict. When people would say they don't crave sweets after surgery I didn't believe them and now I see that it is true!! We also went to bar and I had half a small drink that didn't hit me at all alcohol wise, though I still feel the post drinking dehydration hitting me this morning. I went on a shopping spree with my mom yesterday with all my happy birthday discounts and I went to Ross and bought three future shirts. I'm looking forward to wearing them in a month! They don't look too bad on me now actually. They are all 2x from Ross and I use to have a problem finding 3x shirts that fit at Ross, so yay NSV!! -
Yah hoo! Great NSV!!!!I bet your eye doctor was excited, too! Congrats, Karen

It is good to be reminded of my non scale victories, NSV's, search for that forum & you might get excited. I go back and forth on "seeing how good I look". Sometimes I am amazed at my shrinking size but I still look horrible at my thighs when I sit down. I have recently remembered, my thighs have always been my "trouble spot". I had literally forgot since it has been 30 years since I have been this weight. So I have said to myself that I am going to start loving my body parts regardless, or flat out love life, be happy regardless of my thighs. I even mantra, I am grateful to have my two legs at all. I take it as far as thinking about a situation where a person went to an airs how w/ both legs, a plane crashed and the person left with one leg. I know I sound like a nut but any way I can get it in my thick skull that I am a like able, fun person with more value than my looks, I am progressing. -
DIVA!!! I can't stop laughing. You CRACK ME UP!! :laugh I called my husband on the phone & read the poem to him. He was laughing too! Great job. So, my big behind was so inspiring to you that you just couldn't resist writing a poem about it - ha!! I LOVE IT!!! The Best Me - The panties are the same in the both pictures! They're the stretchy kind & just stretched a lot more in the first picture. They are pretty comfortable!!! I am SO RELIEVED To not have to wear the big ol' bras I used to wear. I now have normal undies that actually look decent!! There's a big NSV for ya!!! I'm still laughing.............Diva!! You're hilarious!!:Banane04:

My only set back is Starbucks. It is difficult for me to get fast food down. Congrats on a great NSV.
