  1. Greetings! Looking for a bit of encouragement! The scale dropped 7 lbs during the first week post-op. Since the 8th day post-op, the scale hasn’t moved an ounce! I’m getting all 60 grams of protein and all my fluids and walking 10,000 steps a day. Averaging 800 calories from sugar-free Greek yogurt, tuna with low fat mayo, chicken breast, and low-fat cream soups. I feel great, by the way. HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145
  2. I forgot to do my other meals for 12 weeks yesterday. Derp! Oh well! So here's a pretty standard lunch for me at 12 weeks: turkey swiss roll-up (Boar's Head) - (42g hickory smoked turkey breast, 26g lacy swiss-red fat/sodium, Lowensenf Extra Hot Mustard) veggies (23g rbp, 26g baby carrots, 33g peeled English cucumber) bari ranch dip (30g Grk ff yogurt, WF Italian, parsley, granulated garlic, bp) Nutrition: 169cals; 21g protein; 6g fat; 5g carbs; 1g fiber; 4g net carbs; 5g nat. sugars

    Sleeved 14th of May

Not sure if by a couple of days, but my surgeon had mentioned that if I found the thicker fluids (protein shakes/yogurt/pudding/jello items harder to handle that I should focus on my fluid intake for the first 3 days. I also purchased protein water, so that actually helped me significantly. I mixed it with benefiber and diluted the taste with extra water so it turned at 15.9oz 15g protein water to a 24oz, and was able to get LOTS of fluid, AND LOTS of protein. If you dilute it, its not too sweet. Another option you can do with the shakes is mix them with liquid. I mix my premier protein with my decaff coffee. I love it! I got 10g of protein in (about 4oz of premier protein) mixed that with 4ox decaff coffee and drank it over the course of 40 minutes for a decent fluid/protein group.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I'm on Day 2 of the pre-op diet (surgery is 5/29) and I'm struggling! I just choked down a yogurt (required), but I'm behind on my daily requirements. I hope people are right when they say the pre-op diet is the worse part of the whole process.

    Week 3 stall?

It sounds counterintuitive, but increasing your caloric intake with healthy choices can help to break a stall. I saw weight loss again after adding in an afternoon smoothie made with protein powder or high-protein yogurt like Fage. Your body needs to have a sufficient amount of calories to function properly. The stall is sort of like your body's way of taking a break after running a marathon. Try to be patient and keep the faith. Almost everyone has the "dreaded three week stall." For some it's very brief, and for others it lasts a month. Most of us do then resume weight loss.

    2nd Day Post-Op

Don't worry, the restriction is there. I had surgery 1 week ago and thought the same thing when just drinking fluids/protein shakes. When I started with a little yogurt and cream soup, I could feel the difference. 1 scrambled egg took me an hour to eat and left me full the rest of the night. Fluids can be deceiving, the restriction is there. Head hunger is just starting, but not too bad.

    Had surgery 4/13

Good morning! Like you, my schedule is always on the go go go. I was worried about maintaining the pre-op diet after returning to work, which admittedly I have not done yet as much surgery was just 2 days ago. However I started the diet before leaving for surgery, and was able to successfully eat on the go and still fit in line with the diet. My office has a cafeteria, but we also have plenty of restaurants on the good. I would bring just a small sandwich bag of 1 scoop of unflavored protein powered and mix it with soup broth I would buy from the cafe or restaurant. I was able to successfully keep up this way. I also purchased things I could leave there, like Greek yogurt single serve cups, or oatmeal packets. The option I favor is packing a full day's worth of meals in my lunchbox thought but totally understand that this is not always a possibility!
  8. Good morning ladies and gents! It is hard to believe I am on my second day post op! I am thrilled to say that I am doing well. No complications have cropped up yet. In fact if the wounds on my belly didn't hurt a tad, I would swear I didn't even have the surgery! I have had no trouble getting fluids or protein down. In fact its 6:46am and I've already logged 20oz of fluid and 10g of protein today. In fact, I was a bit concerned, like many others, who could consume more than they thought. Yesterday, my first "meal" consisted of 1 cup of chicken broth that I was able to consume in its entirety of 45 minutes, and I truly felt it was my own obsessive pacing that allowed it to stretch for that long. I then followed that up with 8oz of water about 30 mins later over the course of an hour. I did notice more restriction when I had lunch and started sampling different protein shakes, greet yogurt and pudding. However I still felt like I was able to eat more than I should have been able to. I mean don't get me wrong, I am NOT complaining at all. Being able to consume that much has made it easier for me. I've had more energy to walk, and don't feel exhausted. I attribute to the reduced pain to this as well. The tummy gurgling though... its wicked funny. My stomach was always silent. Now it chatting all day! I hope my fellow May 14ers are having as easy of a time!

    I got a date

Started my liquid diet also today. So far, so good. Not feeling deprived at all. So far today, I've had 2 Premier Proteins, sugar free pudding, greek yogurt and soup. I still have a shake, sugar free jello and yogurt available to me yet today. We'll see how work goes tomorrow night though. I'm always hungry during the night..... How is everyone else doing?
  10. I made cream of potato soup that tasted like heaven after all of the sweet shakes and stuff. I also ate cottage cheese and yogurt. I was only on purees for a week and moved to soft, where I've been for a while.
  11. Today is 12 weeks since surgery (almost "3 months" which happens on May 20), and I am gonna post my food today so I can look back and remember the quantities I was eating at 3 months. For the most part, I "think" this is going to pretty much be the quantity I will be eating for the next 9 months (hopefully)--and maybe even for the rest of my life (super hopeful that this will be true). As per my usual angst about not wrecking Iron Will (my pouch), I'm very tentative about eating "too much." And as my post surg history goes, the healing went so well with very little inflammation--it's hard to know whether I'm just advanced or if I'm over eating and damaging my new tool. I'm eating according to my rules: No drinking with meals 30/30. Weighing or measuring (but not both). Recording every bite or morsel that goes in my mouth. Protein first. Veggies second. A smidge of healthy fats each meal. And fruit if there's any room leftover (never is). Protein goal is 75g protein per day (40% of cals) (presently averaging 77, close enough good). Carb goal is 38g whole carbs per day (20% of cals) (presently averaging 33g, so I have a tiny bit of wiggle). Fat goal is 33g fat per day (40% of cals) (presently averaging 33g, so perfect). Calorie goal is 750 per day (and I'm swinging broadly between 600-850 cals per day, averaging about 728cals/day. Think I'm going to leave it where it is for a while. Some days I'm hungrier than others.) Walking 1 hour/day=about 2.25 miles; Conditioning Training (PT) 3 days/week ******************** 3 Month Menu (12 weeks Post RNY 2.20.18)--by weight rather than volume B1- 3 protein lattes (Prem Protein + decaff + sf Torani syrup) B2- 1oz steamed crimini and spinach, 3oz egg puff w/turkey sausage crumbles, 19g light cheddar wedge, 1oz salsa L- 3oz sardines packed in water, 2tsp yellow mustard, 2oz cucumber and carrots w/1.75oz grk yogurt ranch dressing (see recipe above) AS- 1 GG bran crisp, 19g lt cheddar wedge, 6g PB slim peanut butter powder (Vitacost) D- 3oz blackened salmon, 1oz asparagus, 1oz avocado tomato salad with 2 small lime wedges BS-none Nutritional Totals: 655 cals; 77g protein; 21g fat; 32g carbs; 11g fiber; 21g net carbs; 10g nat sugar ************************* Here's breakfast. Will try to remember to take photos of the other meals for posterity and to give a visual reminder of approx volume. Plates are saucer size = about 5in diam.

    May 2018 RNY Scheduled

@frust8 I was 304 going into the surgery, and somehow came out of the hospital at 312!!! But, today I weighed 296.8. So, I'm down 8 pounds since surgery, and now officially 100 pounds down from my highest weight (396 back in January 2011). I've been doing pretty good getting in the 64 ounces of fluid and the 60 grams of protein. However, I must have missed the memo that i'm supposed to be eating 2 to 4 oz. at a time. I had been eating a 5.6 ounce yogurt once a day for the last week (granted it took me about an hour to do). So, I'm being much more careful and paying more attention.
  13. If you have lactose issues related to the IBS then any shakes made with milk products are going to be hard to take. Maybe consider a vegan shake or using alternative milks like soy, almond or coconut. My program does not allow any pudding or baby food on full liquids but plain, non fat yogurt 1 oz/hr is allowed. If you are having diarrhea every morning it doesn't sound like constipation and Miralax is only going to suck more water in there. Bone broth is pretty good and has some protein. Since the sleeve doesn't involve anything except making your stomach smaller any foods that you could not tolerate preop due to you IBS are still going to be problematic. You really should get in touch with the nutritionist or other provider that did your preparation for surgery, Don't wait until you feel weak and dehydrated. Sorry you are having such a rough time of it.
  14. Ok PT done for today. But had to rush here and tell y'all...you might think I'm crazy cuz these products--people either love or hate. But I have an issue with spending 140cals of my 700 cal day on 2tbsp of salad dressing. LOL. BUT I heart Ranch Dip with salad and veggies, especially carrots and cucumbers. And the bonafide Ranch Dressing Mix has a buttload of carbs/sugar in it and preservatives. So what's a girl to do for veggie dip you ask? Well, funny, but I just figured this out today and it tastes great with the sesame ginger flavor and I know it will taste great with the Asian flavor too AND the Italian flavor (aka Ranch). So here's the deal, you mix Walden Farms vinaigrette-style dressings and mix it with an ounce of Greek yogurt! You get about 1 1/2 to 2 oz of veggie dip for about 16cals. (I'm not a fan of the premade Walden Farms creamy dressings--but really like the vinaigrette style dressings!) Here are my fave WF vinaigrettes (warning they DO take some getting used to and negotiating with yourself!): Asian Sesame Ginger Italian Balsamic Raspberry Vinaigrette Veggie Dip Serves 1 (about 1 3/4oz volume) 1oz Greek Yogurt, FF (HEB) 3/4-1oz WF Vinaigrette-style Dressing (any flavor) granulated garlic to taste Jane's Crazy Mixed Up Pepper to taste (optional) Mix it all together and enjoy with many different raw veggies or salad. I bet it would be great with coleslaw! Nutrition: 16cals; 3g protein; 0g fat; 1g carbs; 0g fiber; 1g net carbs; 0g sugar

    KETO

I will be doing a variation of keto in that I have no intention of eating any fruit since I don't care for most of it and I don't want to trigger any sugar cravings. I also have gluten sensitivity and don't eat any gluten containing products (wheat/barley/rye) or the gluten free crap they sell at the store. I do make my own almond bread which I do not plan to have until much later. I love almost all vegetables and I am the queen of cauliflower. I absolutely adore chicken or shrimp fried "rice" with cauliflower as well as other recipes. I plan for this to be my ongoing weight loss diet. I do not purchase any fat free stuff and use small amounts of regular unsalted butter and/or EVOO. I did get some plain, reduced fat FAGE greek yogurt for my current postop period but not eating much of it (2-3 ounces per day) Protein sources of chicken breast, salmon, shrimp, fish, black or red beans. Not a big red meat fan. Love all types of cheese but will have very little, more like a garnish. I dislike sodas and juices so no worries there. My downfall are the candy type protein bars (atkins and others) and sugar free chocolate stuff that taste so good that it is hard to eat a reasonable portion so those are out. Swearing off all alcohol until football season at the very earliest. Hopefully by then I will not want it.

    Purée stage ideas

I never went to puree stage. I went from full liquids to soft foods. I pretty much ate greek yogurt, cottage cheese, no fat Refried Beans, scrambled eggs, pudding for the 1st 7 days of the diet. Then introduced canned chicken and tuna, deli meats and soft cooked veggies. This week I will introduce ground meats.
  17. Hi everyone, I had my surgery on 5/2/2018 and, Alhamdulilah, I am doing very well! I have transitioned from liquids to soft foods and can tolerate nearly everything. EXCEPT DAIRY! So, after I got home, my liquid diet consisted of mainly shakes and yogurt which I had all prior to my surgery. Then, after 6-9 hours, I would have dumping syndrome. It was exasperating and confusing. I called my doctor's office, left a message, and then started doing some research online. I found a website by a surgeon in Alaska that said 90% of DS patients cannot digest dairy products with lactose. A fact that they never mentioned in the 4 nutrition classes prior to surgery. When the dietition at my surgeon's office finally called me back, she said, "Oh yes, that happens frequently to DS patients." GAH! Did you think to mention it????? Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up to my fellow DSers that the probability of this happening is high. The good news is it is not permanent. They said dairy can be reintroduced around the 6 month mark. Which means cheese and I are not separated forever. I hope my experience is beneficial info to you. Peace and blessings be upon you. Rania

    Chocolate muscle milk

Try the different brands and see if you do find one you like. I am chocolate-allergic, I do have the blueberry Muscle Milk, I do find it thick but I thought it was just because it claims to be a yogurt formulation. ,I do have a suggestion , try Svelte, it is soybased but I honestly don't taste the soy in it. I have the French Vanilla, my barifriend Little Green has the cappuccino, I'm sure they have a chocolate as well as other flavors. You do have a lower protein count per bottle but. I like it and it is a little thinner.Wal-Mart has come out with their house brand Equate, equivalent to Premier Protein in formulation. My local has chocolate, vanilla and caramel. Runs maybe $5.25, Muscle Milk 5.98, Pure Protein about the same and Premier Protein 7.27. Of course Premier also has the most flavors as well chocolate, vanilla, strawberries and cream, cookies and cream, bananas and cream, peaches and cream( my favorite) and the caramel which makes a lovely creamer in coffee. Wal-Mart also has in Protein 20 and some other brands of protein shakes I haven't tried. I think everybody is trying to get into the bariatric game you can find ones at health food stores, Whole Foods. GNC, I've been looking around , I'm not to the presurgical liquid diet, have been dabbeling trying find the best for me personally. Gosh I want to do so good at this, I. can't reschedule life for later, I'm 72👵 and this is my golden time. PS I'm not grayhaired I have strawberry blonde still, not a gray hair to be found.
  19. Tomorrow’s the day! I feel like it snuck up on me. I’ve spent the past 2 weeks taking care of my husband that I hardly noticed the time passing. As I prepare for tomorrow, I can’t help but feel like I am not prepared. Even though I’ve probably purchased more things than necessary... I have 4 different soups prepared and frozen (I kid you not I’ve had my crockpots going for over 24 hours to make the bone broths and chicken stocks!) enough premier protein for the next several weeks, and several other brands/flavors in case the premier is a bust due to post-surgical changes. I’ve got Greek yogurt a-plenty, fairlife milk and almond milk. And I’ve spent all weekend in the kitchen cooking up meal after meal for the fam so I can have a full week to recover before the mom/wife duties resume... I’ve got a ton of mini-plates (I have a collection now. I tend to collect oddities. I have a huge collection of coffee mugs, and now my obsession is decorative mini plates. I have issues LOL). I’ve got the spoons, forks, a plethora of different vitamins because damn chewables are gross. I even purchased a pillow wedge, toilet seat raiser, squatty potty, the colace/miralax/MoM/other various pooping aides... Despite having what seems like an arsenal of items, I feel so underprepared. I guess my anxiety is rearing it’s head. I don’t feel nervous about the surgery itself, I feel nervous that I’m forgetting something important. Anyone else feel like they had nonsensical worries before their surgery? The normal worries, complications in surgery, possible injury, or even non succeeding with the tool don’t plague me at all. Instead I’m paranoid that I don’t have enough plates, or that my protein powder will run out (even though realistically I probably have enough to last me a good 3 months straight) or that I won’t be able to take those terrible vitamins. Slap some advice or tough love on me! I need some help getting out of my own head!

    May 2018 RNY Scheduled

I had my surgery on May 3 and was in the hospital until May 5th. The surgeon also did a hernia repair through my belly button. He said I had a bit of fat he had to tear apart to fix the hernia and deal with some scaring as a result of my lap band I had from 2002 to 2010. It's now been 9 days, and I am FINALLY under my pre-surgery weight. For the first time in 8 years, my scale was under 300! I've been having some difficulty with activity because of the leakage of fluids (was pinkish clear, but now there's a lot less liquid and its more of a yellow-brown clear) from my belly button. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he said my belly button looked like it was healing fine (along with my other incision sites). His suggestion was to keep changing the cotton ball in my belly button each time it gets soiled, and try hydrogen peroxide once a day to clean it out. Basically, any time I get up and move around much, or do any bending, my belly button weeps So, I try to avoid much bending ( to whomever came up with the claw thingy that I can use to pick stuff up from the floor). As for diet, my surgeon moved me to the puree stage. I've been drinking protein shakes, milk, and water with unflavored protein powder and a dash of flavored drops. I have also been enjoying soups with unflavored protein powder stirred in, mashed potatoes and gravy, and Dannon Triple Zero Greek Yogurt. I think this evening I will try cottage cheese pureed and maybe some refried beans (if I get up the energy to drive to Taco Bell). I'm still taking 3 Percocet a day (7 a.m., 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.) and one muscle relaxer at 11 p.m. I've been getting some great sleep in my recliner thankfully, but just started sleeping in my bed today (took a mid-morning nap and it went well in bed). I'm also going to switch to regular Tylenol at my 3 p.m. med time starting tomorrow. Going to try to be off Percocet by next Friday. We'll see how that goes, as I also have Fibromyalgia my pain tolerance is very low. As for my diabetes, the highest my blood sugar has been since surgery was 143, but usually stays around 115. This morning my fasting blood sugar was 100, so I am very excited about that. I'm off all insulin, but Friday my surgeon asked me to resume Metformin for a month and then we may discontinue it if my numbers stayed low. Considering I hadn't been taking it since surgery, and they are running in the 115s, it will be interesting to see what the Metformin does when I restart it tomorrow.

    Sweetners

Foods that pretty much turn to liquid in your stomach and "slide" right through. Some are perfectly acceptable, like yogurt, others can become a real problem like milkshakes, chips (turn easily to mush) or crackers. Since they don't stay in your stomach for long, you don't get a feeling of fullness and can easily over-indulge.
  22. I'm so glad I'm not the only one, I wonder what they are from. It's the same here, it feels hard to catch a breath after I have the hiccup... I was a bit confused on the crushing or not, and I did get one. There was a booklet my doctor gave me that said to crush all meds and not to use capsules.. but then his nurses were telling me that small pills and capsules are fine and the whole time I was there they were giving me pills whole with water. I even asked to clarify and they said it was absolutely fine... I may crush some though if it keeps feeling the way it does. I didn't take my vitamins yesterday but I will today. (All but the multvitamin.. I got liquid and it's 6% alcohol, go figure. I called and he told me to wait until Monday for that one. So as long as he knows about it.) Oh my gosh, I'm glad I'm not the only one but I'm sorry other people have this too baha! I didnt know how to explain the half hiccup other than to call it that- it makes breathing afterwards a real pain in the butt. The pain is about the same here, but I will say getting up out of bed today was a breeze for me. Sitting on the toilet hurt a bit, but then got better after I was back up and walking. Yay for gas going away! I'm a bit jealous.. I'm on a clear liquid until Monday diet lol. Though Im not a big fan of yogurt so that's not too bad, but wouldn't mind having a few other options. Just finished my protein and felt super nauseated for a bit but feeling better now.
  23. It is so funny that you mentioned the hiccup. I have the same thing, even the “half” hiccup. 🤣 When I don’t move or drink I hardly have any pain. Walking is ok but getting up and down is still pretty painful. My gas is finally moving and starting to come out ... what a relieve!! I am on a liquid diet which means I can have even yogurt but thinned out. It has to be pouring consistency.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

Man I wished food smelled awful! It all smells like heaven and I am stuck at the gates! I was sleeved on April 27th - I had two days of a clear liquid diet prior to surgery then clear liquids two days after, and protein shakes and clear liquid for two weeks, today is my first day of soft protein. I can have three ounces a day. So after 16 days of nothing solid I am eating a yogurt and it is divine! Lost 19 pounds since surgery, I am pretty pleased at that--sometimes I feel like I should of lost more--compensation for pain and suffering.
