  1. Hello All! And congratulations on our anniversary month! Please be warned in advance that my post is about some "bathroom topics" so feel free to stop reading if your easily grossed out. I was aware that constipation was a likely issue for "sleevers," but I have had the exact opposite problem -- and frankly -- have not had a normal bowel movement since the surgery. I'm very, very careful about sugars and fats, and I've eliminated lactose from my diet all together because of the horrible reaction. Yet I'm still in the bathroom multiple times a day with water-based diarrhea. Food and certain medications come out in the bowl as though they were not digested at all! What is going on in my stomach?! GI says it's IBS (apparently IBS is the new black!) and that I should take a fiber supplement. I can't live like this! I'm at "goal." I was a band to sleeve convert. I'm nearly 5'10" and currently 126 lbs., and wasting (no pun intended) away each day. This condition is affecting my work, personal life, fitness routine, etc. I'm so exhausted all the time, and the physicians that I've seen seem to write me off because the choice that I made to have the sleeve. Any information, similar symptomology, or guidance you all could offer would be most appreciated. Many thanks and wishing you the best!
  2. So... 4 months out yesterday. Down almost 60lbs and honestly love life right now. Things are going pretty good except for one thing. Every single time I eat and it doesn't matter what I eat I have diarrhea. This has been going on for about 2-3 weeks now and it drives me a little crazy. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't last all day it's just when I eat about 10 minutes later I have to rush to the bathroom and go. It's typically all liquid and sometimes foamy. Any one else have this issue? I heard that constipation was common but I have never suffered from that problem. If this is the new normal I can certainly live with it it's not horrible but just wondering if anyone else deals with it.
  3. I am six weeks post op tomorrow. I have been in a stall since week 2. I know I lost ALOT in those 2 weeks, but how long can a stall last? I am eating about 800 calories and my protein is always at least 70g. I am walking most days (nothing aggressive since I am still in bits of pain). What can I do to break my stall. I am getting beyond frustrated. I was due for my period a month ago (sorry for tmi)... could that be holding up some weight loss too??? I need the scale to move soon or I am gonna lose it. NSV - I posed a picture on facebook of myself by accident (I was holding off on that) and I got tons of "you look fabulous" comments... I'm glad I am looking better, but I still want the scale to move. I am worried that it has been too long in a stall. Could my PCOS be part of it as well.... I don't know what else to do to break this stall. I am eating sooo much better than I ever was and so much less. why can't I lose? I eat primarily fish, chicken and tofu. When I go out to eat, I order fish or chicken and take most of it home... Help please!!!!
  4. May be tmi for some it will be about constipation. I see a lot of posts about what would you recommend purchasing or must haves for post surgery. I said things like Chapstick and food scales, etc. But I have to say the one thing that has helped me a bunch is purchasing the Squatty Potty. It seems that people fall into 2 camps after surgery which are those with loose bowels and those with constipation. I definitely fell into the latter. I am almost 3 months out and have gone through some really, really tough days of constipation. And I am sure people will be searching the word constipation so I will also add what else helped me. I am still rather constipated but try and keep my Water up and take dulcolax at night. And I am also patient with myself when I have that "urge" to go. I kept putting off buying the SP (25.00 on Amazon) thinking it couldn't help that much and would be bulky to store etc. not sure why I worried about that as I live alone hahaha. I finally broke down and purchased it about 2 weeks ago after a literal break down in the bathroom. I find that the new positioning helps me relax and not strain as much (which was a major issue and I was causing damage to myself). I find as well that the evacuation is faster (Not the speed but the time spent in the bathroom) It didn't solve the underlying cause of the constipation, but it is Surely helping me while I have the constipation (and even the few times I felt normal movement) I wish I had started using it a lot sooner. So I would recommend if u have 25 bucks to a spare to get one if u are in the same boat (or even a small step stool or kiddie seat) may do the trick. You can google some videos or articles that go over the height and feet position and some interesting facts on the evolution of the human toilet. Hahaha At the risk of pseudo embarrassment I thought I would share my experience! @@Alex Brecher u should carry them on the website! And, as with most of the posts on this board, I am just expressing what has helped for me everyone's journey is different and one thing I appreciate is when members post their tricks and tips. Some have worked for me, others have not. But I am glad I am on this journey to even try. Have a great and productive day! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Listen Up!!!

Even though we all know we should, many of us fail to listen to what our docs and NUTs have to say; some in major ways, some in small. Now in the major ways I always listen to my doctor, I am to afraid not to. I do not want complications. But, in small ways, I fail at times. For instance, in March I went to see my doc for my 9 month check up. We discussed how I was doing- good, felt good, not getting hungry, eating 3 meals a day. I track calories in and I track by my fitbit how many calories I use- I showed the doc. During all this I was complaining that my weight loss seems to have slowed almost to a stop. After reviewing my intake and calorie burn (1200-1300 calories - 2100 to 2200 calories out), the PA said I wasn't eating enough. Now I have been over weight since I was 5 years old. Never have I been told I wasn't eating enough. I was terrified that this would cause me to regain some of what I'd lost, but I tried for a few days, a couple more pounds came off. Then I was headed out on vacation. The hubs and I went to Florida for a week and took in Disney and Sea World. During this time I was also on my monthly cycle. My band was really tight and I had a really hard time eating, even yogurt was a struggle in the morning. I was burning close to 3000 calories a day due to all the walking. When I return my weight was up 4 lbs - WTH, I hardly ate? I figured some was salt intake and apparently that was true. In a week of being back on schedule I was back down to pretrip weight. This week since being really back to normal I have increase my protein intake and started eating snacks as my doctor recommended. All week I have stayed at the 190 weight. Each day I have eaten a snack of 1 weight watchers cheese stick and about 12 grapes (if I didn't want grapes I ate half of an apple). I found this was a tasty snack and I never got hungry, always kept a satisfied feeling. This morning my weight dropped to 189.8!! Ok, this is big to me. Okay TMI I know, but I haven't gone number 2 in 3 days. So being that I haven't really pottied well and my weight went down make me feel really good. Maybe I should listen and heed instead of just hearing every little tid bit the doc says!!
  7. I actually felt surprisingly well immediately after the surgery and had very little stomach cramping, no nausea, and minimal pain. I was stunned by how much pain I was in during my first TOM post-surgery. The cramping was severe and persisted for the entire week rather than just the first day. Anything I ate caused me to feel ill. For two days I could only consume Clear liquids, and even that was problematic. I ended up getting Pediolyte for fear that I was being dehydrated from all the diarrhea. I cannot drink plain Water. The only drinks my stomach has tolerated well is Gatorade and fresh squeezed orange juice, both of which are caloric so I don't want to have them daily. I had to take time off of work because the cramps were so incapacitating, and the inability to keep down food and liquids had made me really dizzy and weak. I had thought that once my period ended, I'd feel fine again. That hasn't been the case, though I thankfully do feel better. It's been a week since it ended and though I no longer have the intense stomach cramps I still am having digestive issues. Every time I eat or drink anything about half an hour later I have an urgent need for a BM. I then have several more throughout the day, and wake up about 4 times a night for it. I'd thought that perhaps I had transitioned into soft foods too quickly, so I went back to the full liquid diet of Soups and Protein shakes. That worsened the problem, which surprised me because I'd tolerated them fine a few weeks ago. I then started to eat more soft solids again, hoping that could help. It did help some, but not enough. I'd been great about getting in plenty of protein and liquids the first few weeks, and am now not getting in nearly enough. I am trying to limit dairy to see if maybe that's a contributing factor, but even when I haven't consumed any the problem has persisted. It's definitely interfered with my work and social life. I'm afraid to even go on a walk on the beach for fear that my stomach will seize up. I was like a hermit all weekend long, even though it was so beautiful out and there were exciting things going on. As far as weight loss goes, I've lost 22 pounds since surgery (mid-August) and a total of 31 pounds since my highest weight. My BMI is currently 29.5. I'm happy with the progress. I'm just concerned about the stomach issues. I'm also lethargic because I haven't really been able to exercise much and am not able to get in enough calories. Did anyone else experience anything like this?

    Confusing Terms....(I'm New!)

The "green zone" is achieving a level of restriction in your band that allows you to be satiated with less food and for a longer length of time without not feeling physical hunger. My surgeon has shared that his goals with fills are to allow the patient to still be able to tolerate meat, and to not get physically hungry for 3-4 hours. Stuck episodes are usually caused by the bandster eating food either too quickly, taking too large of a bite, or not chewing every bite enough. Making poor food choices with the wrong type of food (I.E. soft white bread) can also cause a stuck episode. "Sliming" happens when you have food that is really stuck, and your digestive system creates additional saliva and "foam" (I'm certain it's related to saliva, but have not researched it) in an effort to lubricate the esophagus so that the stuck food will pass through the band. Everyone does experience some variation regarding the length of time a stuck episode will take to resolve, the amount of pain they feel, and how many times (I know...TMI) they will have to "throw up" before the offending food is no longer stuck. I've been able to avoid all but one stuck episode...as I immediately heed my early warning signal of feeling too tight in my chest that lets me know I need to slow down or take smaller bites. I hope this information helps...the best way to learn is to ask questions!
  9. What are your preworkout, during, and postworkout supplements? Preworkout: I've tried NO-XPLODE (however, I do not like the new formula), C-4 (made me constipated, TMI, but good info for those who have problems with the bowels), and I am currently taking MHP's Fit Trainer. I wake up 5 am, but I do not get to the gym until around 6 pm. I need a really good pre-workout to get my workout started at the end of a really long day. Any suggestions? During: Aminocore by AllMax Nutrition . I have also tried a few others, but right now--in my bag--I have another supplement that increases blood flow. it gives me a really good pump. I'll add the name when I get home because I cannot remember it at this time. After: Myozene by BioQuest. I have actually added on 15 pounds of solid mass with this supplement. I started taking it in October and I have increased my weight from 140 to 155. I am still the same waist size, but it has definitely helped me add on the mass.

    Cycling Newbie

Well I went out again today. My husband rode his bike and stayed slow enough for me to keep up. Starting to figure out the gears. We stayed on the bike paths near our house and went 7 km in 30 minutes. It was fun and not too hard but I was sweating by the end. He showed me how I can add at least 20 km more round trip and stay on the bike path most of the way! My butt is sore right on the bones where the seat hits. It is literally two spots about an inch in diameter each that are sore. When I was a lot bigger, my whole butt crack area would get sore and bruised and raw (tmi) after a couple of rides. That's why I never kept it up. I think the soreness now is more normal and I will get used to it after a few rides. I don't know if I was too big before or the seat was wrong or the bike was wrong or a little bit of all of them. It is humiliating to take your bike to the shop and say your fat ass is in agony and please adjust the seat. It's amazing what I used to put up with because I was so ashamed about my size.
  11. Hey Kimo.... Snap - I was banded yesterday too. And so far I've had the equivalent of 1 cup of ice water at the hospital and 46g protein in the form of Nectar (from Vitamin Shoppe) mixed with 16oz water. I bought the Fuzzy Navel flavor and its really not too bad (a nice change from two weeks on vanilla, strawberry and chocolate Slimfast!) I like that each scoop of Nectar is a whopping 23g of protein and only 90 calories! So far minimal pain and discomfort (probably a 3 on a scale of 1-10). I took some pain meds before bed last night to ensure I got a good nights sleep but honestly didnt need it. Ive had minimal gas pains in my shoulders and neck - thats possibly cos all i did after getting home from the hospital is walk around and burp lol TMI. Like you I agree - so far so good and yea having the band doesn't really 'feel' much different (yet). Good luck to you on your journey. Our weights are nearly the same too... I weighed 288lb before starting the 2 week pre-op diet and yesterday weighed in at 275lb before surgery - a nice jumpstart!:frown:
  12. So, last night I had sex for the first time since my surgery. I had a bit of an issue. I was very, very dry down there. I've never had that problem before. I am getting in all of my fluids... but I was wondering if anyone else had that issue? If so, did it get better or did you have to use lubricant?
  13. I had surgery on Tuesday June 2nd I am having more pain today than I have since the first day after surgery. I haven't been taking pain pills because I can't sleep and they make me itch. I can handle the pain I just want to make sure it's nothing serious. I have been walking a lot. I still feel bloated and haven't had a BM since before surgery. (Sorry TMI, I know). Anybody else have these issues?

    Dry-heaving

Hi All - I've been suffering from wicked, wicked, WICKED bronchitis since Thanksgiving. I swear, this has been the roughest virus I've ever had in my life. I've woken up every morning for the past week coughing over a sink and hacking up mucous. In the process, I dry heave because it tickles my gag reflex so much. Good news is I think it's at the tail end (please God, let it be so) since it's all coming out. But I'm worried because I do have a lap band... is it possible to "push" it out of place with dry heaving? Would I notice a difference if it did? I can't really control it at this point... it's just how my body is unfortunately reacting to getting the gunk out. I've been taking Mucinex but otherwise don't take cough suppressants because in order to heal you do need to get the crud out of your lungs one way or another. If I should be suppressing my cough to preserve my band, though, I will reconsider. Thank you, and sorry for the TMI.

    Kinda odd issue but...

Mine got really inflamed and smelly (I know TMI) about 6wks ago. I cleaned and rinsed it really good in the shower then took a q-tip with Neosporin on it and dabbed it in there with that. It was gone in a couple days.

    Fire and Ice

This site has been my soul support system for me I have been banded year and one month. I have only told my husband and adult children 20 and 21 and my sister who had GBPS 9 years ago. I read so much and learn so much from this site it has helped more than any other thing besides myself who has learned to be small one must eat small. I can say I am small now and I still always want to eat more than I need too. I am a work in progress. This is a great place to ask questions and I do not think ice will hurt only if you break a tooth? I world recommend just sucking on them. I can not chew gum because that causes other things to happen a little TMI sorry. I have been able to lose 110 pounds all by myself and this site and my band. I am glad you shared and keep coming back. It is a wonderful place to vent and chat. Keep up the excellent blogging. Best wishes imaluckydog

    Salad?

I am six months out today... I've tried salad a few times... Either the baby greens or the romaine... And seems that every time it upsets my stomach... Tmi but when I poop after I eat lettuce... You know it! But all other parts of a salad (cucumbers, tomato, olives) are fine.
  18. Only drink bottled water, from a bottle you've opened which has it's seal intact. Make sure you brush your teeth with bottled water. Don't drink anything that has ice in it. Don't believe it if someone tells you the water and ice are safe. Only eat food which has been cooked to a high temperature - soup is usually a good bet. Kind of takes some of the fun out of the vacation though huh? I've been sick from the water on a vacation in the past and I will never feel safe eating in a foreign country again. I know, how sad. Oh well, I'd rather enjoy the rest of the vacation than go through a 48 hour purge from both ends (I know, TMI) ever ever again.
  19. I know what you mean. I had two total knee replacements and the constipation was like concrete. Then they give you milk of magnesia, and you explode for 2 days! Probably TMI, sorry. I just want to avoid that if I can.
  20. Had anyone experienced severe constipation post op? Im pretty concerned that I cant go to the bathroom on my own even with fiber stool softeners laxatives suppositories...nothin works! Im gonna call my surgeon tomorrow but wondered if anyone else has gone through this...kinda miserable
  21. ok ladies, help me remember please, because i'm racking my brains out! i haven't had a period (normal or drug induced) in a long time, im currently sorting out my PCOS issues, and i never really been diagnosed for it until i switched GYNs and demanded for a whole slew of tests to be ran...by the way, i got poked three times today to do the insulin resistance and hormone level testing, what a joy that was! :crying: so, im posting this because, i remember way back in the day when i was of normal weight and having periods, my nipples would get really tender/sore and deep pink about a week before i was to get my period. that's what's going on now. BUT i also have clear, non smelly, "vajay" discharge.(sorry if TMI, lol :cursing:) i can't, for the life of me, remember if i got this too before my periods when my system was normal... my question (and i know i can google it and find out, but i rather speak to my fellow bandster ladies) do you get this discharge too before your periods? and if you do, what's up with that?!?!?! -Kiki

    2 weeks out...

I agree, things will probably go down easier than you think. You haven't had any fills yet. I had no problems keeping things down until I had had a few fills. Take your time and you should be fine. Also, even if you do get sick it's really not that bad. I get a feeling of pressure in my chest and something like nausua. I then go to the bathroom and it comes up pretty gently. There's no heaving like when you have the flu. I feel fine once it comes up. This may all be TMI sorry. Of course you don't want this to happen, but I just want you to know it's really not that bad. Congrats on your surgery!
  23. Almost 2 weeks post op . Today diarrhea very bad like 6 times ...What can I take ????
