    Anyone Near Escondido Ca?

I was sleeved 10/11/12. It's been rough, Iknew that when I signed up for it. For me, my deteriorating health (Pre diabetes, sleep anea: both reversed already!!, back/feet problems, etc....) made me realize I had but one choice after regaining lost weight at least a dozen times in my lifetime only to find myself getting bigger and bigger again and it was really affecting my life! I've lost a total of 52 pounds since August when I started Pre-op diet. Since surgery, I've lost 29.5 pounds! I am thrilled! I am taking it slow adding new foods and am veering toward soft foods still. I'm working on slowing down too. I eat way too fast further limiting my intake. It's ok! Ive got my goals and I'm meeting them! Food is taking less of a top priority in my life. Protein-yes, food-not so much! Where are you on the journey?

To or Not To do Pre-Op Diet

Yep, my doc reserves the right to not place the band if the liver is too large. What worries me is that I was doing the 2 week liquid diet over Christmas and I forgot my Protein Powder when we went out of town... so I ate a very small serving of lasagne, a tiny piece of pie, a couple of small spinach enchiladas, a couple dozen thin tortilla chips with scorching (perfect) hot salsa, a tiny amount of brisquet, a tiny amount of ham, a tiny amount of mustard potato salad during the trip. I have been good since, but geez.......... We will see what he says in the morning since I am going in at 5:30 am. I lost 10 pounds anyway.
  3. I am 10 days out and still on clear liquids. The last couple days I've had spells of mild nausea after being on my feet for a few hours, to the point that I had to lay down for a few minutes to let it pass. I haven't been able to stomach protein other than what I get from homemade chicken broth, so that's probably part of the issue for me. I agree that you should back off the soft foods for the time being.

If you have a Tanita BF% scale....

I personally think that all of those body fat % scales are wrong. I have one, too, and it's always suspiciously high. I go and have a caliper test done by the fitness trainer at my gym once every couple of months, and to the *percentage point*, my scale is ALWAYS off by 10%. When I first got the band, the scale told me I was 54% body fat, but the trainer told me I was 44%. Now, the trainer tells me I am 27% body fat, but the scale is telling me I'm 37%! I say...take what the scale says with a HUGE graint of salt.

    Tight

Your fill was on the 12th so that means you've been trying to sustain on about half of the calories you need daily for about 10 days, and bupring and sliming. If it was going to resolve itself it would've by now. It sounds like you are too tight and need a slight unfill. Contrary to urban legend, too tight is not good. It doesn't make you lose faster, in fact, it often will even result in a gain because you're forced to live on slider foods. Very often when someone is too tight they lose more after a tiny unfill because they actually eat adequately and healthy again. Too tight is also the leading cause of band slips. It's simply not worth the risks. Best wishes.
  6. I had my surgery 5 weeks ago. I am down a total of 24 lbs but in that time I lost most of it in the first 2 weeks, then stalled the 3rd week and week 4 lost close to 10 lbs. In the last week I have lost nothing again. I am doing everything the way I was instructed. I drink fluids, get 60-80 grams of protein daily, take my vitamins and am slowly incorporating solids into my diet. I do not eat anything I shouldn't. Mainly protein, veggies and fruit once a day. I make my own protein shakes. I cannot work out due to having severe spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease in my lower back. I cannot walk for long periods of time. I was told I can swim but not until after I go for my post op appointment in 2 weeks. I do some resistance training with rubber bands on my arms and legs. Is it normal to stop losing?

Thank you Tonks. That is very encouraging! I haven't been within 20 lbs of my ideal weight in 10 years. Do you really feel full after your meals or do you feel like you're dieting?

    Help... sugar addict

Don't be embarassed! I also had my surgery in January & I am only down 30 lbs. & 10 of that was in this last month. I too am a sugar/chocolate addict. I think one of the things that has made a difference in this last 10 lbs is that I discovered Well's Blue Bunnies fat free, sugar free, white chocolate & almond icecream bars. They are so good & don't really taste diet! Keep your chin up! I think the weight loss is just a little slower for some of us. I look at it this way - At least I'm losing!! Keep up the good work!
  9. My name is BinkieGirl, but you can call me Bink. I was banded on July 10 2003 by Dr. Bradley Needleman in Columbus Ohio. So far I've lost somewhere around 20 pounds thanks to several complications including having my stomach swell shut for several days. All in all, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you!

I got the OK from insurance!

Hey Dianne, Congrats...I know you have to excited. When Bobbi calls you to set up the surgery date, you will get 2 appts, a pre-op and post op appt. So yes you will see him again before the surgery. I actually saw him and his assistant durning my pre op appt. Be prepared to be there awhile, my pre op appt was @ 10:00 and it was @ 12:30 when I got out of there. I am sure it should take that long all the time but just be prepared. I had my husband with me. I actually talked to Bobbie yesterday, becasue I was suppose to be scheduled for my fill by now and I hadn't heard from her. Dr V's other nurse is on vacation so she hasn't been able to schdulel anything. She said she should be back monday. Hopefully you will get a call very soon. I would call her if you haven't heard from her by friday. I have her number if you don't have it... Good Luck....keep us posted!!!! Hang in the Melissa....
  12. I just got a call from my best friend, I've know her since we were 16. 27 years now. Her mother died this morning. She'd been sick for a while with lung problems, went into the hospital on Monday. Yesterday she was doing a little better, but took a bad turn. My friend lost her father about 10 years ago and we've talked a bit about being an "orphan" even as adults. It hasn't yet hit me that I've lost someone I loved, I've been focusing on how my friend and her family are. It will soon I know.

    So Sloooow...argh!

I am in the same boat. I'm three weeks out tomorrow. I lost 15 pounds pre-op, another 10 in the first week and a half, and I've been gaining and losing the next 3 ever since. I haven't even moved on from strained liquids yet- not til tomorrow, so I know it's not over eating. I struggle with the Protein (mixed without ice or anything - too thick per Dr. - I can barely tolerated any I've tried). I'm about to think I'm going to be that 1% who never loses more than 20-25 lbs no matter what they do!
  14. This is common for the largest incision where the surgeon removes your stomach. A larger part of the muscle has to be cut than the smaller ports for the laparoscopic instruments. It happened to me too. I found putting ice on it worked better than pain meds for me. I iced it 10 minutes every hour until it felt better.

    All dreams come true.....believe

Thank you, I agree with luckyinlove. I am having surgery 4-28-10 and vacillate daily on whether I have made the right decision. You have confirmed that I have!
  16. I don't know yet. I am self pay and I will learn more when I see the NP in about 10 days. If they truly charge that much for self pay, probably not. I'm glad to hear you're doing well!

    Vent

Vent... having a difficult time getting bariatric doc office to submit to insurance. I did a 6 month nutritional program through my former insurance, gave release to doc office (still haven't requested it). I also did 10 months of Weight watchers from august 2016 - may 2017 and even had doctor visits in august, October, April, (and several others) where my weight was recorded and even nutrition discussed - though the visits were not specifically for that. I have talked to my current insurance several times and they are very much encouraging me to have my doc office submit for approval. Especially now since my medical tests revealed a hiatal hernia and gerd (i knew I had gerd) and that sometimes a waiver is given. However, the person at my doc office is being a bit snippy about turning it in for approval because she thinks the people I talked to at my insurance are wrong. I am trying to get them to submit but agh. (they also still have to request my ekg results since hospital was not theirs and get the online bariatric psych eval place to actually send my approval results). A bit frustrated. Just in case I started the 6 month nutrition visits through my doc back on the 6th

    Inability to throw up?

Considering how much I ended up throwing up toward the end of having my lap band, this sounds great! I don't want to throw up, I HATE throwing up. If I were to mess up, lesson learned for next time. Let that pain that you're going through for 10+ minutes be a reminder for next time.

    Acne prone skin..

For acne there's are to really only two things that I would reccommend based on the research. Either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Everything else is window dressing. Salicylic acid works better for me benzoyl peroxide (eg proactive) works better for others. Sal acid cleans out the pore and will exfoliate your dry flaky skin, Benz deals with any infection you've got. I'd find creams with at least 2% sal. Acid or 10% Benz and very little else's and try those. Google Paula Begoun. She rates products for their ability to perform based on ingredients, not brand names. Her acne section is also very, very educational. Good luck!

I have been a runner for many years thru being thin to being overweight/obese and still ran. It took me about 6 mmonths to run a mile without stopping. I would walk 5 miles/day once my body got use to the walking I had to challenge it more so I started jogging. I could only jog a 10-20 steps at a time, then I increased a bit more each time and really pushed myself. I constantly set goals and reached them. I LOVE running and my next goal is to run a 10 minute mile once I reach that my next goal is to run a 9 minute mile. My advise is start out slow and steady, you don't want to push too hard then you will end up with a injury, take baby steps and good luck
  21. Make a commitment to know as much as you can before surgery. I took 2 years to get to that point and I don't regret it. It's been a good 10 years since I've wore some of my old clothes and it's a great feeling. 10 for you is definitely possible. tmf
  22. The Harvard Biggest Loser study pretty much confirmed this: whenever you fight your body, it becomes more efficient at using calories, lowering your caloric need to maintain your weight. AKA: ignore hunger at your own risk. I'd love to see some data on the people that maintain long-term (like 10+ years). I bet they've been diligent at keeping their weight stable - not fighting it down. If you asked me to choose between being 20 lbs heavier than I am now, but then be guaranteed to keep that forever, or stay here just below 200 lbs but with a big task of transitioning into maintenance ahead, I'd take the 20 lbs any day. I feel pretty in sync with my mental and physical side of all this, I'm just so mindful of not putting myself on the path to regain, which I think starts with the mental prison that ignoring hunger is.

    Thrown through a loop

I felt the same way. I had to jump through so many rings of fire to finally get my surgery that I almost convinced myself that it was a sign NOT to do it. I even thought, maybe I won’t survive this one it was so bad everything they made me go through. I felt like I was on staff making calls making sure people were on top of THEIR job. To the point that after I received my surgery date, they said … You know you need to see a cardiologist (I’m hypertensive, but my heart is great). When I went there 15 days before my surgery he was insisting on MORE tests. I just finally broke down crying. I said my goodness, are you serious? It’s a sign! But lo’ and behold, I recieved a call a little less than two weeks before my surgery date (11/24) and was told if I would mind coming in the next day (11/12). I said with all my nervousness, I WILL BE THERE! 10 days post op, I am doing well through the Grace of God and those appointments the cardioligist wanted to me do … canceled Stay positive, and your husband is 100% right. Have to work hard for what you want, and it is worth it! Keep your head up, you are on your way to healthiness and longevity
