Going to Home Depot with the hubs. My size 10 jeans are too big. Happy New Year! 🎊🎆🎉
  2. Apparently I've been doing IF and not even knowing it/not doing it on purpose. I've restricted myself from eating when I first wake up to not eating until lunchtime between 11 am or 11:30 am then I stop eating between 6 - 7 pm. So I guess I'm doing the 16/8 thing. I can't tell if it's making a difference or not. It's only been a week. I'm hungry a little in the morning, but it's "habit" hungry and not real hunger. I drink water and/or decaf coffee now in the morning instead to tide me through until lunch. I've just gotten back to eating 600-800 calories/day to shed these awful COVID 10-12 pounds I gained in 2020.
  3. Happy new year everyone. May 2021 be the best year YET! More or less this has been my meals: 7am Protein shake 10 am one Scrambled egg with milk this makes it soft 12 2 oz of protein sometimes I’ll have a little veggie or mash 3 snack like cottage cheese, string cheese or keto friendly snacks 6 2 oz protein sometimes I’ll have a veggie or mash 8 protein shake Water in between meals and snack If I’m hungry before bed I’ll usually add a scrambled egg
  4. Feeling pretty good after surgery! Came home 29 hours after admittance for pre-op! Doing ok on sipping water, some how I keep swallowing air with it and end up burping. Not sure how that’s happening. And I hate that little breathing tube tool they give you because it hurts a little too much. But I am going to do it every waking hour, 10 times, for the next two weeks (instructions I was given).

Congrats! And the burping thing lasts a few days - I found that when I started burping a lot, walking helped work that out pretty quickly.

How are you feeling now? The burping is odd right, I felt the same. I was sooooo careful not to swallow air but alas I had the "burps" and a bit of frothing.

    The Maintenance Thread

Since I transitioned to a Whole Foods Plant Based diet a year ago, I have maintained my goal weight without difficulty, and I eat all I want, with no counting or measuring. The center of WFPB are fruits, and veggies of all kinds, including lots of the starchy ones like sweet potatoes, carrots, corn, etc. I eat apples, bananas, daily avocado, and all sorts of fruit, but no juice. Whole grains and legumes play a big role for protein, along with nuts and seeds. There is no sugar, added oils, or processed foods. I easily get 60 gm of protein a day, and the ability to eat unlimited volumes of food is so satisfying and filling. I eat at least 10 servings of fruit and veggies daily, and get about 60-70 gram of fiber a day, and this is one key for feeling full all the time. Anyway, I am healthy and strong and love not feeling enslaved to macros or calorie counting. This has given me so much freedom in my eating, and I know it is healthy and sustainable. Just food for thought.

    The Maintenance Thread

I can’t believe I forgot this thread. I found it last year ( well year before now) when I was still losing, I so could have used it this last 12 months. It’s lovely there are many familiar faces here & though I know about a lot of your experiences, I’ve found reading about your specific issues & learnings about maintenance helpful & reassuring. Some of the things that have resonated are: Feeling like I’m eating all the time. Eating to a routine not hunger cause I’m often not. Finding the balance so I don’t lose more which I still struggle with. I’m going to get in trouble when I see my surgical team in a week & a half cause I’ve lost another kilo since my last appointment. That’s 11.5 down in 12 months. And no, eating Christmas cake, my steamed marmalade pudding & custard or champagne for days did not change my weight at all! Not even 100g. The drinking eating balance. I find I sort of can drink green tea & eat my mid morning crackers together without much of an issue but I do this slowly over an hour. But at other times the least time between I can manage is 15 mins before or after & only sipping. My restriction is still pretty active. I wrote briefly about this in an update earlier this week. Being scared to put weight on again. Not just a kilo or two but 10+ Because I think if I put on that much, I’ll put on another 10 & another ... & I’ll be back where I started. I’m still very careful about what I eat too (well 99% of the time). Avoiding as much sugar as I can, keeping to whole or multi grains, low fat. I regularly eat fruit & vegetables. Predominately green vegetables: beans, sugar snap peas, asparagus, broccolini, lettuce - no starchy ones except the odd bit of carrot. I also have fruit twice a day: blue berries on my rolled oats & then apples, grapes, cherries, strawberries, lychees, mandarin, rockmelon, watermelon or paw paw at night after dinner. I don’t consider them empty calories cause they’re full of essential vitamins & minerals. I don’t take any vitamins or use supplements in my diet so it’s essential I get these in through the food I eat. Yes, the fruit has sugar but it is naturally occurring & not added. I do suffer a little from hyperglycaemic so the sweetness in the fruit helps. Yes, they are carbs but again I look at them as a naturally occurring carb & they’re fibre rich not like processed carbs in bread & pasta. We do need some carbs in our diet to help regulate our insulin, for energy, to keep us regular, etc.

    Anyone for Jan/ Feb 2021

I have to start my pre-op diet on Jan 7th and take a covid-19 test on Jan 15th, 6 days prior to my surgery on Jan 21st. It would definitely not be cool if I have to re do the pre-op diet all over again! Get well soon Jaye W!!! Good luck!
  8. Today is my 1 year surgeversary and despite everything going on in the world, its been a pretty good year. Since 12/31/2019 I am: - Down 120 lbs from surgery (161.5 total) - in the "normal" BMI range, for the first time in my adult life - almost half of my weight (and will be when I reach goal) My favorite NSVs - My knees, what finally got me to have the surgery, feel SO much better - I'm walking most days, anywhere from 1.5-2 miles and it feels so good both physically and mentally - I want to be out and experiencing life again, v. being so tired at the end of the day and just wanting to sit on the couch - I eat completely differently from before, and I have so much more energy - Clothes fit so much better! From 2x-3x to a Medium in tops. - Standard bath towels fit
  9. I'm almost 6 months out and still relying on protein powder to meet my requirements. I don't think I could get all my protein from food even if I ate nothing but meat, unless I started eating between meals, which I'm trying not to do because I don't want to fall back into old bad habits. I got tired of protein shakes between the pre-op diet and the post-surgery liquid stage, so I mainly mix protein powder into my food. My go-to breakfast is half a container of Greek yogurt plus half a scoop of protein powder (my favorite is birthday cake flavor, but I also use chocolate sometimes). That's 19 grams of protein. You can also mix protein powder into applesauce, protein oatmeal, or pudding, and unflavored protein powder into things like refried beans, soups, and other purees. A lot of people like to add protein shakes to their coffee instead of creamer for a protein boost. I like protein hot cocoa and find it much easier to drink than cold shakes. What brand of protein shake were you drinking when you had the allergic reaction? You'll have to avoid whatever caused that, which could limit the kinds of protein you can have (although it is possible that your reaction was to a different ingredient and not the protein itself). If it was whey protein (which is generally the recommended type), you may have to use plant-based protein. There are some recommendations on a recent thread here:

    Revision from VSG to BP

I had a sleeve in 2014 and lost 56 pounds, but regained more than half of it over 6 years. My bypass was done to eliminate my GERD, but obviously weight loss has occurred. My surgeon told me not to expect a huge weight loss. I'm 9 weeks postop today and I've lost 30 lbs. since surgery. Now I'm just trying to change my relationship with food so I can reach my healthy weight (10 more pounds to lose) and KEEP IT THERE!!!! I'm currently at the lowest weight I got to after VSG, so I'm feeling hopeful that I can reach my goal this time!
  11. Just asking because many skinny people I know make less-than-ideal food choices to express it in a friendly manner, especially if they're still quite young. They all too often don't make these "sensible diet choices" and don't have these "healthy habits" so many of us think thin people do. Maybe it comes with the territory though - many medical workers in hospital settings have horrible diet/food habits regardless of their weight. On a side note this makes me wonder again what we're referring to when we're talking about "skinny" or "thin". Anything under BMI 19 or 20 maybe? Serious question because that's about the body frame and weight class coming to my mind then.

    Loosing too much weight?

don't forget that a majority of us gain 10-20 lbs after hitting bottom, so keep that in mind as well. I also freaked out because I was getting too thin, but then I shot up 15 lbs during year 3 without much effort.

    Losing Quarantine Weight!

I gained 10-12. Just now working on exercising again (can't go to gym) by dancing around house and walking around house and JUST MOVING! Gone back to basics with eating 600-800 calories/day. Working great so far. Back on track for 2021.

I’ve been approved for a revision

if any approve it for weight regain, I'd think they're few and far between. I haven't heard of that, but you may be right. I know some will approve it for medical reasons, though - like GERD or other complications that can't be "fixed" through more conventional means. And many won't cover revisions AT ALL (like mine...luckily, I haven't needed one). I have a friend who's suffered horribly for the last couple of years from a 10-year-old lapband. It worked fine for a few years, but not anymore. Her insurance company won't budge. I feel horrible for her.

    Just...waiting

All I can emphatically add to this is to keep on top of everything they are doing until you get that letter. I had a great team with Guthrie but my pcp was horrible. In fact, I had many issues with my weight and depression for it before and saw my pcp for two years, begging for help. Finally, after my birthday and hitting an unbelievable depression, my husband did his own research and found Guthrie for me. When we asked the pcp, she was unconcerned and wouldn't call back but Guthrie has taken over. So, everything is ready, six months up, all testing done and it gets submitted. I had this feeling about my pcp. I get a message from my NUT at Guthrie saying they thought they had the pcp letter ( which they asked for 4 months prior) but didn't seem to have it. So basically I spent the next 3 weeks going back and forth with the Dr in person (during covid) and calling. The receptionist, nurses and the administrator all were apologetic and I am convinced they tried to push every time I showed up about it as they stated. Finally, I threatened to get any Dr willing to write it from the practice and got it. After that, it did take a couple weeks for it to get past the processing phase and then the surgery was scheduled for 10 weeks from that date but just two weeks later I got a call saying to start my liquid diet TODAY; surgery moved up to 13 days from that point; about 7 weeks earlier then scheduled. With the best of them, you still have to just get on top of it. If you have any niggling thought that something could be off for the paperwork or submissions, just get with the scheduler or one in charge of that with your surgeon. It's getting there! Should be no time now :-).
  18. I am in the same boat you are and I just started back restricting calories to 600-800/day and the weight is falling off for right now, so I think it might work for a while. Also, I've been putting on headphones and my iPod and dancing around the house a couple of times a day, 10-15 minutes at a time to get some cardio. This boost was just what I needed to get those awful COVID 10-12 pounds off that I gained this year.

    Loosing too much weight?

personally, i think the body stops when it's ready. I know it did when i had the band (2009). I started at 232 and was at a happy 143 for years. Thats where my body stopped. Now with the sleeve (8/28/2019) my body stopped at 120 and I go between 120-123.
  20. For the last 9 mths the tip of my tongue feels slightly numb. Since I had my surgery in Mexico I can't be seen by a bariatric Dr in the states. Nothing tastes right. I crave foods and get hungry but never eat much of them because I can't really taste them. Anyone else dealing with this and gotten help?
  21. I have also said "I am eating more healthfully" "I am eating less" "I am eating intentionally" All the truth. I lost the original 100 pounds 10 years ago with my sleeve, and this past year, I lost another 45. Every word of the above is the truth. No one needs to know what you consider private.

    Just had surgery on 12/15

I'm telling you!! Tomorrow is a week post op, I can't even start a full liquid diet until day 10, and won't start soft foods until day 15. [emoji30] It's always so interesting to see how different doctors have different plans... I'm not physically hungry, but mentally I feel like I'm struggling with all the liquids.. Anyone for October 2020?

I also started at 213 and am at 181 (was 183 yesterday lol), so we are about the same. Surgery was 10/19 and I am 5’3”
  24. I had surgery on 10/15 starting weight was 230 current weight 192 but my weight is really coming off so weird. I don’t loose weight for like 2 whole weeks one occasion it was 3 weeks then all of a sudden I’ll loose up to 7lbs in one week. So weird, but happy lost 38lbs so far and COUNTING!!!
  25. I was down to 284 before my first try at VSG but wasn't meant to be as Band had to come out first and took too long to remove for a safe VSG. So I knew I had to wait until after May this year for my Medicare and Supplemental was active. Well, I gained all that weight back. So 8/10/20 I contacted a health coach I knew from before and at 304 began a 3 month journey so I could have VSG by 11/30/20. By second week in November I was down 33lbs. I am now 1.2 lbs from 50 lost. Sent from my SM-J337V using BariatricPal mobile app
