6 Weeks Out... Stalled... And No Energy
iegal replied to forever29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long did you up for calories for? You need to keep up calories for a min of a week to even see a difference. How many carbs are you getting? How many calories? Sounds to me like your body is adjusting to starvation mode and conserving itself. Don't give up, continue ahead but make changes. What worked for me during first 5 months was: no more than 35 carbs a day (I was carb sensitive and more carbs=less weight loss) 60 plus grams of protien a day Calories above 600 a day. I sometimes would be 600 and then would be 900 a day a few times a week. Then my body was not in starvation mode. You need to find what works for you. Everyone reacts differently,so don't give up. At goal, my carb limit and calories went up as I can now eat everything I did pre surgery, just less of it. Today I consume somewhere from 1200-1500 calories a day. -
I was like that yesterday and they were only ringing me to say i was been called in to start the weight loss diet so congrats and well done

Thank you Chandi. You have done an amazing job. Do you have any advice for us freshly sleeved people? In particular, so many people on hear are worried about stalls or slow weight loss. I am constantly reading that people are worried they are doing something wrong and won't be able to lose their weight. I would love your input.

We miss you around here! I can't believe it's been two years for you already - congrats on reaching goal but even more so for managing to keep it off with your healthier lifestyle. You're one of the few that actually looks younger now that you've lost weight, by the way. I think that the weight loss can make a lot of us that were heavy for a good while look older. I've heard many a lady lament that she swapped fat for wrinkles! Congrats again, and it's a shame you're not around speaking reason to the newbies but I understand. I take breaks now and again, too! ~Cheri

I have not had vsg yet but that is my plan and hope at this point . I have one ore month of supervised weight loss & then should be on my way . While having my Egd the doc said I had signs of avid acid reflux. This was new to me, I very rarely had any issues, only when I was pregnant. (3years ago). He then put me on med. for this "problem". I then within a week of taking this me started having indigestion like crazy and have felt awful ever since. I also was told during my stomach ultra sound that I have gallstones in the neck of my gallbladder . I felt like crap ever since they went fishing around doing these test. I had a attach of some sort the other day while eating dinner ( baked pork & carrots ) horrible chest pain, back pain between shoulders , hot flashes, nausea, dry heeves felt like something was stuck. Horrible pain! Went to ED, they gave me a GI cocktail and zofran. With in 10 min. I felt much better. Called the gastro doc next day & they switched me to nexium. I still have mild pain on left side of chest when I take deep breaths. And after I eat. Most psin is on left side of chest, right under sternum, and left side of stomach / abdomen . I am worried that my surgeon will say no to the sleeve due to this new issue. Anyone have issues like this before or after the surgery? So frustrated & I am so close to the finish line that I'm afraid of everything going wrong at this point. :/

Slow-losers/Low BMI ers.... do you ever reach goal?!?!
aggi replied to Moosewife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Colemon I am home now but I am not feeling well I have headaches and no energy at all so tired all the time plus my hair is coming out I will be bold soon My anemia is due to sleeve but I had problems with pain and all since the beginning I so regret this only lost 13 lbs in over 3 mts Omg that's crazy is it related to your sleeve? Are you out of the hospital yet?? I'm doing well just super slow losing. I'm at 175 and around 10 months out so I'm down about 50 pounds. Discouraged but not giving up and happy about the what I've lost -
Hey everyone! I'm 9 months post op VSG and have lost about 105 pounds so far (including pre-op liquid diet). Everything in general has been good so far, except for the past two weeks I've been experiencing a lot of abdominal and side pain after eating, and also some really terrible bloating, gas, nausea, and constipation. Did an ultrasound a few days ago and it turns out I have a contracted gallbladder full of stones. I know that the only way to get rid of gallbladder problems is to do gallbladder removal surgery, but I've been doing a lot of research and I've been finding that A LOT of people have been complaining that they experience uncontrolled weight gain after gallbladder removal. Despite eating healthy, exercising, and limiting the consumption of fats, people seem to rapidly gain huge amounts of weight, especially in the abdomen, and find it impossible to lose it. As a bariatric patient this of course scares the heck out of me! I don't want to do this surgery and ruin what I've worked so hard to achieve with my weight loss, and I still have so much more weight I want to lose until I hit my goal. What should I do? Has anyone else had gallbladder removal after wls? Did it impact your weight loss or give you any unwanted side affects after surgery? I'm so scared of having to do this surgery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have followed her since before I had surgery. Her videos about surgery early on helped me. Now what she talks more about her life and not surgery, I am not as interested as I was. Anyway, I think people get bogged down in certain aspects of who they are and blame all their problems on it. I have s ok many standard deviations that I could blame problems on. Fat Nerd Geek Black Curly hair Odd family makeup And the list goes on. In the end everyone has the same issues for the most part regardless, some people just can't see past themselves to realize it. It's like women who think they can't find or keep a decent man because they are fat. Okay, what is Halle Berry's excuse then? Beautiful thin women have the same problems that fat women have. People look for excuses to their problems instead of accepting their reality.

Protein Bars ? Do you ?
CowgirlJane replied to TrailriderJulia's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Julia - what kind of trail rider are you? I ride horses pretty much exclusively a trail rider these days! I think Quest are the most palatable for the nutrition profile. Premier Protein bars don't taste very good but are high protein. I think Protein Bars are fine, but I give my standard warning to not let them become too much of a "habit". Over time, I realized I was sort of abusing them, using them almost like a candy bar substitute - I like the Quest ones that much. Quest bars are cheaper if you can find a special and buy them by the box, but I learned that I can't have something that tasty in the house, in large quantities and not expect me to eat 1-2 per day which is just more than I need. When my weight loss stalled around 7-8 months out my NUT immediately zeroed in on my behavior with those bars and she was right. Now, I do sometimes use a quest bar as a meal substitute, but I buy 1-2 to have on hand, not one or two boxes. -
I had my WLS on 10/1/12 and to date have only lost 63#. I know I have eaten a few things I am not supposed to but have been back on track for a month now and still no weight loss. I haven't gained any but no weight loss is upsetting any ideas?

Yes, I my surgeon was Dr. Stephen Burpee in Tucson. His office is helpful. The surgery was very successful with no complications and didn't take long in the OR either. The best part is the affiliation he has with Northwest Hospital in Tucson (a walk from his office). The weight loss program they have there is great. Tons of infomoration and informational classes to take before the surgery so you know what to expect. An RN by the name of Gail is the head person for the weight loss program and supplies you with a great binder including what to eat at every week, and lots more information like vitamins, protein, exercise, etc. etc. She also visits you after surgery and the day after that. She makes frequent calls to check up after you and tell you what you should be eating, I guess in case you haven't read your binder. I like Dr. Burpee as well. I didn't have a lot of questions for him at all, so I just didn't converse with him much. The seminar he conducts gives you lots of information too. Office visits post surgery are at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and yearly after that. He just makes sure you are where you need to be and checks out your blood work. After reading some people here that don't know what to be eating or what they should be doing after a couple of weeks, I realized how fortunate I was to have Dr. Burpee and Gail. If possible, they provide you with TOO much information!!

Does Biotin Really Help Hair Loss???
line-dancer replied to hopingtobebandedsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair is almost gone on top and I started taking it10,000 mcg a day and its growning back slowly but surly. I figure it cant hurt....line dancer -
I could eat the whole tub of popcorn without an issue. It is a slider food. Unhealthy, full of fat, high cal, low nutrition. If you want to eat it that is your choice but remember the band is about losing weight - you should be basing your choices on what will best help you to achieve your weight loss goals.

Bcbs Insurance Changes Re 6 Month Diet
fattymcfatterson posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my email newsletter from Dr. David Kim. This info was included and may be helpful to someone else: Effective February 1, 2012, BCBS of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Illinois have DROPPED the 6 month program that they previously required for weight loss surgery! Contact us to check your benefits and see if your policy was affected. This now means that if you qualify, you could head to surgery within 6-8 WEEKS instead of 6-8 months. -
2nd Fill yesterday and I'm miserable
Shalee replied to Shalee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The band I have is 10cc...and yes, when I called the office I was told that a 7cc fill is huge but I will probably NOT need another adjustment until I hit my weight loss goal...I have 70 lbs to go. I do go back in 5 weeks and at that time I may need 1/2cc but they doubt it. He never communicated anything about a liquid diet for 24-48 hours which makes perfect sense...I woke up today feeling much better this morning and was able to take more sips of water so I'm feeling much more at ease with it all. thank you all for your replies...I am very grateful I stumbled upon this site...it has truly been a blessing to be able to read and be inspired by you all. -
i had to tell HR for obv time off reasons and told a very small handful of (friends) as more and more noticed the loss, i merely said i am eating better and exercising and getting healthy for my grad daughter (100% all true)....my little friend (dixie the lap band) is always with me giving me the support i need....and its nice to know she's there

Welcome! And great job on your weight loss!

By the way, that doesn't mean that for me, personally, that I believe weight loss is won in the kitchen, rather than the gym. (It's probably different for everyone!) It just means for me, I must be scrupulous about both.

How Many Have Lost 100lbs In 6 Months???
Lap_dancer replied to princesst's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dang ya'll. Wow. But...how's your butt? I'm thinking all that has to exit some way. OUCH. smiling but happy for your LOSS. -
Hi Everyone! I have been reading the forum for awhile but this is my first post. I have been overweight since childhood and now at age 33 decided to have lap band surgery. I was banded on 5/27/11. My pre-op weight was 246 and am currently at 236. I have not really felt the benefits of lap band at this point, but it has only been 2 wks. I thought that after having this done that I would not feel the hunger, that the restriction would allow me to eat small portions but would feel like I have eaten the same amount as I normally would eat. I am waiting to have my first fill to see what kind of result I will get after the fill. I am satisfied with my weight loss but not with the hunger that I still have. I feel like at this point I could have done Weight Watchers, Atkins, etc. and had the same results in a month. Any thoughts or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your support.

How much weight did your doctor want you to lose before surgery? Mine didn't specify and I realized after I left that I forgot to ask!

Band plication pre-op 2-day clear liquid diet
BandedPlicatedDude replied to BandedPlicatedDude's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Will definitely do that... Just haven't had time... Hopefully tonight... Oh another thing I forgot to add was that I also had a huge hiatal hernia as well that he fixed! So it was really multiple surgeries all in one... Thanks for the encouraging words and the advice. I am already feeling much better with the strange feeling in my abdomen area. It wasn't really pain, but it was kind of like starvation... but I wasn't hungry... Anyhow, it's much better now... It wasn't acid either by the way. I have been on Prilosec OTC for 11+ years... yup, one every day. Until the day of the surgery. My surgeon promised me that the last Prilosec I'd ever tale was the one I took the day before my surgery... and boy was he right. The pain and all the discomfort was worth just having my acid reflux. I'm still in full disbelief! OK. I have not heard that one before... but you never know... our body is capable of some strange things for sure... thank you all for the advice and tips. I'll definitely make a post under the appropriate forum. I'm feeling much better already, and to be honest with you, having been in almost misery for almost 2.5 weeks, just the fact that I'm feeling a little bit better for me is a victory... Weight loss will definitely come second to feeling better. I have decided not to weigh myself for a while--just continue to eat healthy and in small portions like I have; in addition, I'm trying to get at least 20 minutes of physical activity per day, which according to my doctor will make a world of difference. Having felt better, tonight I went for a walk (I'm in a wheelchair, so I guess it's called a stroll) for about 35 or so minutes which felt really good. I didn't get that tired. Good things should follow next, no? Take care all!
