    Anyone for Jan/ Feb 2021

I have to start my pre-op diet on Jan 7th and take a covid-19 test on Jan 15th, 6 days prior to my surgery on Jan 21st. It would definitely not be cool if I have to re do the pre-op diet all over again! Get well soon Jaye W!!! Good luck!
  2. Today is my 1 year surgeversary and despite everything going on in the world, its been a pretty good year. Since 12/31/2019 I am: - Down 120 lbs from surgery (161.5 total) - in the "normal" BMI range, for the first time in my adult life - almost half of my weight (and will be when I reach goal) My favorite NSVs - My knees, what finally got me to have the surgery, feel SO much better - I'm walking most days, anywhere from 1.5-2 miles and it feels so good both physically and mentally - I want to be out and experiencing life again, v. being so tired at the end of the day and just wanting to sit on the couch - I eat completely differently from before, and I have so much more energy - Clothes fit so much better! From 2x-3x to a Medium in tops. - Standard bath towels fit
  3. I'm almost 6 months out and still relying on protein powder to meet my requirements. I don't think I could get all my protein from food even if I ate nothing but meat, unless I started eating between meals, which I'm trying not to do because I don't want to fall back into old bad habits. I got tired of protein shakes between the pre-op diet and the post-surgery liquid stage, so I mainly mix protein powder into my food. My go-to breakfast is half a container of Greek yogurt plus half a scoop of protein powder (my favorite is birthday cake flavor, but I also use chocolate sometimes). That's 19 grams of protein. You can also mix protein powder into applesauce, protein oatmeal, or pudding, and unflavored protein powder into things like refried beans, soups, and other purees. A lot of people like to add protein shakes to their coffee instead of creamer for a protein boost. I like protein hot cocoa and find it much easier to drink than cold shakes. What brand of protein shake were you drinking when you had the allergic reaction? You'll have to avoid whatever caused that, which could limit the kinds of protein you can have (although it is possible that your reaction was to a different ingredient and not the protein itself). If it was whey protein (which is generally the recommended type), you may have to use plant-based protein. There are some recommendations on a recent thread here:

    Revision from VSG to BP

I had a sleeve in 2014 and lost 56 pounds, but regained more than half of it over 6 years. My bypass was done to eliminate my GERD, but obviously weight loss has occurred. My surgeon told me not to expect a huge weight loss. I'm 9 weeks postop today and I've lost 30 lbs. since surgery. Now I'm just trying to change my relationship with food so I can reach my healthy weight (10 more pounds to lose) and KEEP IT THERE!!!! I'm currently at the lowest weight I got to after VSG, so I'm feeling hopeful that I can reach my goal this time!
  5. Just asking because many skinny people I know make less-than-ideal food choices to express it in a friendly manner, especially if they're still quite young. They all too often don't make these "sensible diet choices" and don't have these "healthy habits" so many of us think thin people do. Maybe it comes with the territory though - many medical workers in hospital settings have horrible diet/food habits regardless of their weight. On a side note this makes me wonder again what we're referring to when we're talking about "skinny" or "thin". Anything under BMI 19 or 20 maybe? Serious question because that's about the body frame and weight class coming to my mind then.

    Loosing too much weight?

don't forget that a majority of us gain 10-20 lbs after hitting bottom, so keep that in mind as well. I also freaked out because I was getting too thin, but then I shot up 15 lbs during year 3 without much effort.

    Losing Quarantine Weight!

I gained 10-12. Just now working on exercising again (can't go to gym) by dancing around house and walking around house and JUST MOVING! Gone back to basics with eating 600-800 calories/day. Working great so far. Back on track for 2021.

I’ve been approved for a revision

if any approve it for weight regain, I'd think they're few and far between. I haven't heard of that, but you may be right. I know some will approve it for medical reasons, though - like GERD or other complications that can't be "fixed" through more conventional means. And many won't cover revisions AT ALL (like mine...luckily, I haven't needed one). I have a friend who's suffered horribly for the last couple of years from a 10-year-old lapband. It worked fine for a few years, but not anymore. Her insurance company won't budge. I feel horrible for her.

    Just...waiting

All I can emphatically add to this is to keep on top of everything they are doing until you get that letter. I had a great team with Guthrie but my pcp was horrible. In fact, I had many issues with my weight and depression for it before and saw my pcp for two years, begging for help. Finally, after my birthday and hitting an unbelievable depression, my husband did his own research and found Guthrie for me. When we asked the pcp, she was unconcerned and wouldn't call back but Guthrie has taken over. So, everything is ready, six months up, all testing done and it gets submitted. I had this feeling about my pcp. I get a message from my NUT at Guthrie saying they thought they had the pcp letter ( which they asked for 4 months prior) but didn't seem to have it. So basically I spent the next 3 weeks going back and forth with the Dr in person (during covid) and calling. The receptionist, nurses and the administrator all were apologetic and I am convinced they tried to push every time I showed up about it as they stated. Finally, I threatened to get any Dr willing to write it from the practice and got it. After that, it did take a couple weeks for it to get past the processing phase and then the surgery was scheduled for 10 weeks from that date but just two weeks later I got a call saying to start my liquid diet TODAY; surgery moved up to 13 days from that point; about 7 weeks earlier then scheduled. With the best of them, you still have to just get on top of it. If you have any niggling thought that something could be off for the paperwork or submissions, just get with the scheduler or one in charge of that with your surgeon. It's getting there! Should be no time now :-).
  12. I am in the same boat you are and I just started back restricting calories to 600-800/day and the weight is falling off for right now, so I think it might work for a while. Also, I've been putting on headphones and my iPod and dancing around the house a couple of times a day, 10-15 minutes at a time to get some cardio. This boost was just what I needed to get those awful COVID 10-12 pounds off that I gained this year.

    Loosing too much weight?

personally, i think the body stops when it's ready. I know it did when i had the band (2009). I started at 232 and was at a happy 143 for years. Thats where my body stopped. Now with the sleeve (8/28/2019) my body stopped at 120 and I go between 120-123.
  14. For the last 9 mths the tip of my tongue feels slightly numb. Since I had my surgery in Mexico I can't be seen by a bariatric Dr in the states. Nothing tastes right. I crave foods and get hungry but never eat much of them because I can't really taste them. Anyone else dealing with this and gotten help?
  15. I have also said "I am eating more healthfully" "I am eating less" "I am eating intentionally" All the truth. I lost the original 100 pounds 10 years ago with my sleeve, and this past year, I lost another 45. Every word of the above is the truth. No one needs to know what you consider private.

    Just had surgery on 12/15

I'm telling you!! Tomorrow is a week post op, I can't even start a full liquid diet until day 10, and won't start soft foods until day 15. [emoji30] It's always so interesting to see how different doctors have different plans... I'm not physically hungry, but mentally I feel like I'm struggling with all the liquids.. Anyone for October 2020?

I also started at 213 and am at 181 (was 183 yesterday lol), so we are about the same. Surgery was 10/19 and I am 5’3”
  18. I had surgery on 10/15 starting weight was 230 current weight 192 but my weight is really coming off so weird. I don’t loose weight for like 2 whole weeks one occasion it was 3 weeks then all of a sudden I’ll loose up to 7lbs in one week. So weird, but happy lost 38lbs so far and COUNTING!!!
  19. I was down to 284 before my first try at VSG but wasn't meant to be as Band had to come out first and took too long to remove for a safe VSG. So I knew I had to wait until after May this year for my Medicare and Supplemental was active. Well, I gained all that weight back. So 8/10/20 I contacted a health coach I knew from before and at 304 began a 3 month journey so I could have VSG by 11/30/20. By second week in November I was down 33lbs. I am now 1.2 lbs from 50 lost. Sent from my SM-J337V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone for October 2020?

Just wanting to check in and see if my weight loss is average and falling in line with others who've had VSG in October 2020. I had surgery 10/16 starting weight 213, currently at 183. Down 30 lbs. How is everyone doing?

No Band!!! Food Still Getting Stuck????? :(

I get it. Went for band revision on 10/21/19 to do the sleeve. So until 11/30/20. I still found rare occasions for food sticking. Sleeve wasn't done last year due to scar tissue so that is why I had issues. Sent from my SM-J337V using BariatricPal mobile app

    18 months

Oh yeah, we all do at some point. You're not alone. I'm 2 years post VSG and I've gained 10-12 lbs. Working on getting it back off plus a few more. Going back to basics of measuring portions to 1/2 cup or less and 70 g of protein and 64 oz of water. Keeping calories between 600-800. It's working so far. I'm very motivated. I'm getting too old to keep going through this yo-yo cycle. Starting dancing around the house today with headphones and iPod to get some cardio because it's too cold to walk outside. You can do this!

    Meal planning trackers?

Apps are something I'm still having a fuss with but only because of my personality. Myfitnesspal is actually a good one-you just have to kind of not end your day out on it or it will give you warnings of too low calories. Lots of peeps have asked to add a bariatric setting for those of us with surgeries but they've said it would be unhealthy for others. I've liked carbmanager best honestly-it's non-intrusive but has everything I need. Bariastic is really a great app but it's not something I like with all the groups and the notifications-again, I'm pretty basic. I've actually just been happiest putting everything on good old fashioned paper. I never recommend this to anyone but I've been doing calculations for decades on my own and it's just easier for me to grab my daily things with the meds, vitamins, etc when it's sitting on a notebook next to the fridge. BTW-my Dr and NUT get CRAZY for this preference lol. So, I'm 4 months out and gotten over the holidays. I've now lost a bit over 100 lbs and think I have a good understanding now of my eating, etc. My kids are 19 and 23. My daughter is losing weight with me naturally so we kind of go together on what we eat (mine is just smaller portions and a bit varied for the day-some days are better then others with food). My son buys his own stuff and eats on his own but we all work at different times and college so we don't eat together normally. He keeps his stuff in his room with a little fridge and microwave (commonly called the man-cave). My daughter requests he keep his snacks out of her sight but I have no problems with that. I still can't eat a whole lot but what I can-it's limited anyhow or I feel sick. For Christmas, we did get a pizza and wings (cause this chick did NOT want to work and cook!). I was able to have a small bit of very thin crust veggie pizza. I can eat pepperoni and beef sticks are a treat after work for me- I eat them very slow and chew a lot. If it's on pizza, I will eat the toppings of a small slice as I did on Christmas. I will try anything like the cake or cheesecake that I make or my daughter makes but I only have a bite then spit it out-seems to do the trick. The minute it hits my mouth, I like the flavor but get a nauseous feeling so it's no biggie. My family all do everything they can to help out. If you have teenagers, I would say it is the same. They are old enough to be able to plan their meals while you recover and get comfortable. I get 24/7 support from hubby and kids with regards to exercise and eating. If I'm getting sick (which happens, I had complications and my new job is very physical-we all work at the same place), they are on me in seconds helping me breath, curl up, lay sideways, etc and always ask if anything they are eating bothers me. Just be open with everyone and even let your teens read some of these forums along with the forms you get from your Dr. to help them understand and help out.

    December 2020

December 29th, surgery tomorrow!! Yay! I’m so ready! I’m down 18 pounds from my highest weight! COVID test came back negative! I hope all of my other testing is in line with surgery! I’ll probably hear something today if it’s not. Haha. I discovered through blood testing I’m iron deficiency anemic, but they also had me quit all of my supplements almost 10 days ago. I’m wondering if the iron in my blood can take a beating that quickly. Anyone know?

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

That is so annoying! Nerve pain is the worst! My goes down my legs. I take 10-325 Percocet every 5.5 hours or I wouldn’t survive. Can you see a pain specialist? My GP won’t prescribe either. I’m so sorry!!
