  1. i know its possible to get a REVISION. I got bypass surgery 8 years ago. Now i have gained 40 lbs have terrible gerd. I don't want to gain all my wait back. I have an appointment today with my primary doctor to get authorization to get an appointment with my surgeon. I really hope my surgeon approves me for REVISION. please send me good vibes !! i really need this REVISION

  2. I'm going in for a sleeve revision October 4th. It worked well for me, and I am not back to my starting weight. However, a revision is strongly encouraged at this time (there are additional medical issues). I have decided to forgo the insurance process, even though I know I would eventually be approved. "Eventually" is the key issue here. I have a small window to create this to where it will not impact my work or home life as much, and waiting for the insurance approval would take over a year.

    • So... I have a haital hernia and they're suspecting some stomach ulcers (explains the anemia/getting endoscopy soon to confirm)
      • According to my doctor, hernia can re-develop after 2-3 years if it is repaired but nothing is done to my sleeve.
    • I have been going to Support Group and the CBT sessions and both have been very helpful.
      • Had the chance to share my story and that has been relieving and empowering...
      • According to the program leader (for more than 20 years), only 5% of WLS patients stay at goal 10 years after surgery.
        • One study showed the most contributing factor is a patient's support network.
        • Met a lady who is 12 years out and 7 lbs. away from her goal — She only missed 4 support group meetings in the 12 years!
    • I really want to prove to myself before revision that I can change.
      • The surgery is just the building blocks, I have to do the hard work to build the beautiful house/temple...
        • On prenatal vitamins, protein shakes instead of meals and clean eating
          • No grazing, set meal schedule, no distractions (eating mindfully)
        • Trying to get into the Bio Oil regimen (thank you for the recommendation) so I can stay consistent after revision
    • Iron infusions scheduled weekly for 8 weeks (7/11/19 - 8/29/19) so will probably be attending half those sessions after surgery?
      • Depends on where my iron is when I get labs and surgery date that will be set on August 1st
  3. One week post-revision, down 5 lbs since surgery day.....which puts me back under 300. VICTORY!!! Still a ways to go but I'll take every little win I can get. Feeling great other than minor abdominal discomfort.

      ARMoma45

      That's awesome....keep up the great work :)

  4. 5 days post-op revision from VSG to MGB. Back home, feeling great. No more gas pain. Only minor discomfort in the abdominals, rather like after having done a bunch of sit-ups. Definitely don't feel like eating anything. Don't even have the boredom hunger like I had before. Fluids are going down ok though so that's good. Going back to work tomorrow. Wish me luck.

  5. My ACL revision surgery went great! Surgical center was on point. I did a million things ahead of time (groceries, medication, etc) This time is less painful, better meds and best of all, I have a Cryo Cube. An ice box thing that circulates cold water around my knee to cool it, for pain and swelling. It is the bomb.com! I am not looking forward to PT & it stinks that I am going to lose so much of my summer. Hopefully I can do more stuff, like Tango when this is done. I wish it was WLS surgery, I have to wait until November for that. ($$).

  6. They should have in the type of surgery option "Revision" because it looks weird to say you lost over 100 lbs. and you just had surgery a month ago.

There's another wrinkle or layer to the stats section. Some people actually lose oodles of weight before having any surgery. Often they're people who started at 400+.

@proudgrammy hehe this time I was just looking at one of my posts today, and thought, that really looks odd. :) ty ^^

@WLSResources/ClothingExch So very true, like during pre-op diets. Some of those people are so amazing to lose so much weight on their own. I struggled big time :P:)

Thanks. My band was just never the same once I got pregnant. I go for a endoscopy with a biopsy Monday morning and when all the results are back then we can figure out what surgery to revise to and if I need to have 2 separate surgeries or just 1.

  10. Karina's WLS Journey

    Karina

Hello!!! Here is my story. My heaviest weight was 375, I got the lapband in 2011. I lost a little over 100 pounds, Became Pregnant and gained 60 pounds. After a few years the lapband stopped working. I yo yo my weight and started having bad acid reflux to the point that I couldn’t sleep laying or sitting up. Last year in June 2017 I had my lapband removed, and started the program to get a revision. Didn’t get it then, on August 28th, 2018 I will be having my VSG surgery . Tomorrow August 13 I start my liquid diet

You look great. Pray you are healing well. I have lived with lapband complication and failure for years. Just recently found a great surgeon who is going to do a revision for me. I am nervous and excited both. Can you please share any of your experience with me?

  14. {{$title = \IPS\Output::i()->title;}} {$title} Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is the most common type of gastric bypass weight loss surgery.1 It is usually laparoscopic. It is reversible if necessary, but is designed to be permanent. The surgeon first divides your stomach, leaving a smaller upper portion and stitching shut the larger remainder of your stomach so that it can't be used any more.2 Normally, food in your stomach empties to the upper portion of the small intestine. In RYGB, the surgeon attaches the small stomach pouch to a place lower down on the small intestine, thus "bypassing" the majority of your stomach, the duodenum (upper portion of your small intestine) and at least part of the jejunum (middle portion of your small intestine). A long-limb RYGB procedure bypasses more of your intestine; in this case, the surgeon attaches your newly formed small stomach pouch to a place even lower on your small intestine. The long-limbed RYGB procedure can lead to faster weight loss because of greater nutrient malabsorption (fewer nutrients absorbed). Why is the procedure called "Roux-en-Y?" The gastric pouch is called the "roux limb," and the "Y" shape is formed by the three arms coming together at a junction. The three parts are: The small stomach pouch that holds food The large stomach pouch that secretes digestive juices The far portion of the small intestine that the two portions of the stomach are connected to Buchwald H. ASBS 2004 consensus conference statement: bariatric surgery for morbid obesity: health implications for patients, health professionals and third-party payers. Surgery for obesity and related diseases, 2005;371-381 Ibid. Advantages and Disadvantages of the Gastric Bypass Advantages of the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass No bands, staples or other foreign objects in your body An established procedure with more research on safety and effectiveness than the vertical sleeve gastrectomy and sleeve plication More weight loss in the first year than the gastric sleeve and the adjustable gastric band (lap-band)1 Reversible if necessary (but not easily) Can be revised to a longer-limb Roux-en-Y gastric bypass if an initial short-limb procedure does not lead to expected weight loss. Quick improvements in your health, especially in your blood sugar control with better insulin resistance, lower blood sugar levels and possible resolution of diabetes May be a good choice for individuals with a sweet tooth because sweet foods are not typically tolerated Jackson TD, Hutter MM. Morbidity and effectiveness of laporscopic sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric band and gastric bypass for morbid obesity. Advances in Surgery, 2012;46:255-68. Disadvantages of the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Higher risk of nutritional deficiencies due to malabsorption than the lap-band, sleeve plication and vertical gastric sleeve Weight regain can occur after a couple of years if appetite levels increase and/or the stomach pouch is stretched High-sugar and high-fat foods can cause dumping syndrome, with symptoms of shakiness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea Stomach pouch can be stretched if patient overeats, leading to less restriction and less effectiveness Complications are less frequent, but are more likely to be serious Possible Complications/Risks of the Gastric Bypass Intolerance to certain foods Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, with severe heartburn Nutritional deficiencies due to low food intake and nutrient malabsorption Dumping syndrome Staple line leaks from the stomach and intestines where they were cut and stitched during the procedure Vomiting, nausea, diarrhea Strictures Weight Loss and the Roux-en-Y (RYGB) Rapid weight loss in first 6 to 12 months About 65 to 70% of excess weight loss (EWL) within 2 years Often more than 100 pounds lost Many RYGB patients regain about 20 or more pounds after the first two years of weight loss The RYGB is restrictive and malabsorptive and it affects your appetite hormones. Restrictive: Right after surgery, the top portion can hold only about one ounce, or two tablespoons, of food. This forces you to have smaller meals you fill up faster Malabsorptive: With RYGB, food doesn't go into your duodenum, which is where a lot of nutrient absorption usually occurs. Absorbing less protein, fat and carbohydrate leads to fewer calories and faster weight loss. Hormonal:1 2 changes in your hormones after RYGB can decrease hunger. 15. I originally had the Lap Band in 2009. By 2016 I had lost 100 pounds and had reached my goal weight. In October of 2016 I was in a car accident and my surgeon had to do an emergency surgery to remove my band because it had rotated and was restricting all fluids from going down. I have spent the past 6 months jumping through every hoop and request that Molina has requested in order to get a revision surgery to have the Sleeve procedure done. Next week will be my final dietician appointment and we will send in the required paperwork to request authorization for surgery. I pray that Molina approves this surgery. I have regained 87 pounds since my accident. I'm discouraged but determined to get back to goal.

  16. I am thinking of having a sleeve revised into a full bypass. Has anyone had that done? And what we're the results?

    1. Sherrie Scharbrough

      Sherrie Scharbrough

Are you having problems with your Sleeve? I personally haven't had any revision. But my hubby had his Lap Band for 13 years. It eroded into his liver and it was a mess. He was sick for 9 months with abcesses. Tried again 1 year ago but the scar tissue was amost solid on his right side so they did the Sleeve on him. I had my RNY almost 4 years ago. I have done well. I do hear of others having revisions so maybe someone will read your post. Good Luck

    2. PatsyDB

      PatsyDB

No, no problems w sleeve. Just no more weight loss. Tho doing same things. So surgeon says revising to a bypass will get the ball rolling again. Thank you for answering!

      Pat

  17. I  am currently pursuing a revision from Lapband to Sleeve. My surgery date is scheduled for July 14th with Dr. Gerardo Garcia Alvarez at Bariatric Mexico in Cabo. I am having an endoscopy done on Tuesday May 16th, and as long as everything checks out with my band internally they will do it in one surgery. I am scared that the scope will show erosion, and I’ll have to just have it removed, instead of the revision, because I can’t afford two trips to Mexico 

I have ZERO symptoms of lapband problems as far as pain/reflux issues. I just can’t eat anything without it coming back up. I am very much looking forward to getting off the yo you dieting, and joining the losers bench!

Would really love to hear other stories of revisions..

  18. At 1.5 years post-op I'm currently going back and forth between 194 and 199. I would still like to lose 25 more pounds.

In hindsight, I should have gotten the bypass. I fight with the fat person in my brain Every. Damn. Day! I am strongly considering a revision for reflux and to make eating sweets a punishment.

I still feel fat, I still hate myself. People are nicer, men touch me 😳 platonically of course, but it still weirds me out. I don't do chips, bread or fries. I do eat ww toast and a taco shell on occasion.

I still have restriction. The bad foods are the slippery ones... but, when you put your mind to it you can eat very little and feel satisfied.

I would do it again in a heartbeat. 💖

    1. tatasbegone

      tatasbegone

Thank you for the update. I'm still on the medication at 9 months out but I find I can go a day in between without it now. My dr thinks I may be able to come off it totally after 2 years post op. It doesn't bother me much being on the meds and he says there is no long term issues with it.

I should have reached out to you sooner. You seemed unhappy last time I messaged you. I wish you felt more positive about where you are. Are you talking to a professional? You've come so far and have done so well that I wonder if you got to your goal weight you would still have concerns.

I would also like to lose 20 or so more pounds and I plan to push to get there but if it crawls back up after I won't let it get to me. I'm 2 weeks away from a breast reduction so I'm going to step up the meal replacement protein shakes and really watch my carbs. Dieting is such a mind game though, every time I try to make a push for weight loss it seems to backfire and I have cravings and eat worse.

Would you consider doing more protein shakes for meals? At least for a bit to jump start weightloss again?

    2. Ldyvenus

      Ldyvenus

That's a good idea, I should switch back to my morning coffee shake for a month and see what happens... I think my down moods might be cycle related, I am going to see if maybe my estrogen is low.

Good luck on the breast reduction recovery.

  19. Random thoughts: Fall is my favorite season and it's almost here. I love taking my kids to the pumpkin patch. I am almost at my 3 year surgiversary and about to have revision surgery. Excite but apprehensive.

  20. At the moment I am at the lowest I have been. Fed up of being told that I'm getting a revision and then they dont deliver. Cost comes into it on the NHS. Thats why I'm looking further afield. If you know of anywhere decent let mknow? The condition has made me push my friends away

confused- did you have a revision already??if you did or did not - that's awful that people can't keep their WRONG opinions to themselves - tell them i said so LOL

      Ro Rookes

I have never had a revision. Have been treated twice for malnutrition. Have problems with Barium meal as I vomit it back up before it has any effect. Looking for an alternative to this so that the NHS will continue. Otherwise nothing and no hope.

  21. I had my surgery in June of 2008, was ok then the port seemed too big, hitting my ribs and causing horrible pain. I had a port revision done in November of 2008 and they put a low profile port in...all was well until a few months ago I started having pain again and port was sitting correctly. We think that perhaps the scarring inside from two ports being placed there (plus I had tumor removed from pretty much the same area years ago) was pushing the port out. So this past Monday (July 20th, 2009) they removed the low profile port from my right side and put a new one in the left side...doing pretty good overall, just tired a lot - but that is too be expected :) It is funny because some people I work with have asked me if I regret having my surgery (because of the additional surgeries) I always laugh...I love my band, I can finally cross my legs, I can sit in normal size chairs, I feel sexy and beautiful and I am so much healthier :)

  22. Hey Lyndsay! I'm Sophia! Nice to meet you:) Yes I am considering lap band as a choice for WLS. I'm in the Pre-Beginning stages! lol I'm thinking of getting banded in Mexico, because my insurace does not cover ther cost, and there is NO way I'll ever get it here in the states with how hight the pricing is. It's so much cheaper there. The only concern I keep having is "What happens to me if something goes wrong and I'm here in Colorado?" What if I need a revision or a somthing goes wrong... what do I do... go back to Mexico, Try to see a surgeon here. It's confusing on the after care part... and that seems to be the most important part of the process. I need to get my band at the right place and pressure so that I can lose the weight optimally, ya know. So ya that's where I am. Not so scared to go to Mexico for actual surgery... I'm just thinking post op, what are my options. Where were you banded? Do you like it so far?

Thanks for the support! I need it:-)

  23. OK...the TT in 2007...It was easily the hardest in terms of recovery, because the abdominal muscles are involved. I had a lower body lift last summer, and that one is supposed to be the roughest, but it wasn't, in my opinion. The summer in between (2008) I had a breast lift. With all of these surgeries was miscellaneous liposuction, except with my TT when he also did a scar revision for something unrelated to my weight loss. A few weeks ago I had an arm lift (shorter scar) and a revision to the medial thigh lift from last year. I'm still pretty swollen from that, and the arm lift is not a pleasant surgery for recovery. The scars are ugly right now and my arms look thinner but they are nowhere near their end result. Same with the thighs. I go through this every time...I have a post from the past on the Dr. Schulman thread on this site where you can see my anxiety!! More to come...
