Hi everyone, Just sharing my experience so far of my 2 week pre op liver shrink diet. A week before I cut back in carbs and sugar, but still ate as much of anything else I wanted. On Sunday I started my diet (2days early) and I have to say I feel great so far almost 4 days in. I am allowed 600 calories, but can’t seem to get more then 430 calories in. I drink a protein shake in the Am, one for lunch with a sugar free apple sauce, dinner is 2oz of high protein meat and 1 cup of vegetables. I am allowed as much sugar free jello, popsicles and broth that I want, but I can’t seem to fit anymore after the water and Gatorade zero throughout the day. I walk about 4mi a day. I am noticing a slight drop in my energy today, but nothing bad yet. I still cook for my family whatever they want and then eat my food with them. They hide snacks when they eat lol, but seeing the food doesn’t bother me shockingly. This whole process is very unlike me bc I love food and love to eat so I’m so nervous this honeymoon stage is going to end and hell take over! We will be out of town for a few days at a demolition derby this which means lots of grilling food and alcohol! I have my stuff all packed to eat and plan to walk a ton especially as a distraction from the food. If I can make it through this demo derby party I can do anything lol! Just wanted to share for others to have another perspective on the diet and that it MIGHT not be as horrific as it seems. We shall see...... good luck to you all!

Work and eating after Gastric bypass rny
JessieShips83 replied to JessieShips83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ty for answering this I think I’m more scared of routine afterwards. Maybe bc I’m brain farting or not knowing what to expect of the unknown. My usual job is working warehouse so I’m not sure how that’s going to go or maybe switch to doing a different job. My surgery date is June 30th or possibly sooner now that I got insurance approval today. -
I got a call on Friday that they had a cancellation and my surgery has been moved up!! My liver shrinking diet starts today bc I’m having surgery 6/7!!!!!

Food Before and After Photos
Kris77 replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Omg that’s a great idea bc yes I end up tossing the left overs which is a lot by the end of the week or I send it over to my mom. No one else likes it. They like “regular” crust. -
Exercise Evaluation
Elahnen replied to ZhivagosGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Lara! I was worried about my exercise eval as well. Basically they ask you a lot of questions about your current activity level and any difficulties you have doing different exercises. They check your heart rate and they had me walk up and down a hallway several times to check my heart rate during exercise. I would wear a good pair of gym shoes fit walking and comfy pants bc they check your range of motion. I was told you can’t fail, but they could recommend that you participate in several exercise classes prior to approval. Think of it as an evaluation rather then a test. They pretty much just recommend exercises for pre op and post op and try to prepare you for what needs done before and what to expect after. Don’t be nervous, just be you and be honest and you will be fine! I hope tomorrow you will post that it wasn’t as bad as you though it might be 😉 Good luck! -
Lying about not getting surgery is awful
newyorklady20 replied to GinormousReislin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m open with many people but not with all. For example I didn’t tell my in-laws bc they can be nosy, judgmental and invasive and it also just isn’t anyone else’s concern. When they asked why I wasn’t eating a bagel for breakfast I just said I had a toothache. It just doesn’t need to be any of their business or part of the conversation. But for other people, I will share where my weight loss is coming from. It depends on the individual and everyone’s unique circumstances. I don’t think we should be judging the choices others make. As long as YOU aren’t the one saying that people who have surgery are lazy or cheating, you can’t control how others feel or believe. -
Surgery was may 6. Got back in country on May 9. They gave me medical exemption. However........ I am self quarantining BC I think it is the responsible thing to do as I traveled in airports, airplanes (x4) and in another country. Covid police have called me at home and I fill out daily from Arrive Can app too.

For sure! Being a psych nurse I have a highly attuned BS detector 😂

I asked my dietician about prevention before surgery and she told me it’s just inevitable and a hormonal response from the surgery. I’m just expecting it. I’m also going to take flaxseed oil and biotin supplements bc they’ve helped me with hair growth in the past when I’ve had thinning hair from a hormonal imbalance.

Post op 3yrs HELP MEEEE
WanderingHeart replied to 123mollie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you breastfeeding? It’s really hard to lose while breastfeeding. I had my twins before surgery but I only gained 11 pounds with them and when I had them, my weight went down to the lowest it’s ever been. But then with breastfeeding, it steadily climbed until I stopped. It’s counterintuitive bc you supposedly expel 300 calories a day breastfeeding but it made me insanely hungry and my body clung to the weight. -
I understand. My fear is the "I told you so.". When my surgery was postponed bc of covid I was on my 2nd week of liquid. I modified the diet and kept losing. At 47 lbs lost they've decided that's enough. It's not enough for me.

Not much weight loss; should I be concerned?
james2021 replied to SoulGardener's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would guess it has to do with the fluids you were given in the hospital. I was told to expect to regain about half the weight that's come off in the liver-shrink diet after the fact bc of hospital fluids. It'll come off!! -
Has anyone tried Premier Protein Oatmeal shakes?
Kris77 replied to NiceAnkles's topic in Food and Nutrition
I love the premier protein shakes. I haven’t had the oat ones yet. Mainly bc they are more carbs and less protein. The blueberry is the one I’d try if I did though! I bought the strawberries and cream one today. My fav so far is the Cookies and Cream. It tastes like your drinking the milk of your Cookie Crisp cereal. So yummy. Having my first strawberry one tomorrow morning. -
Made it through! Surgery started around 12:30pm, I woke up around 2-2:30. I was in immediate pain and had nausea. I was honestly regretting everything in that moment. But 12 hours later I’m feeling much better already. Pain is being managed, haven’t had much nausea since that first few hours. I’m walking well and sipping my water well. Only issue is it’s hard to sleep bc I’m up every hour having to pee from these damn IV fluids. Hope the others who went today are faring well also!

Thanks so much for responding. I appreciate you taking the time to tell me your stories. What was the final straw for you to finally make that move to go to a surgeon? Did something happen or were you just fed up with being overweight and just decided to go through with it? I guess I just have reservations about doing it. I know a few people who had the gastric bypass. One is gaining his weight back 3 yrs in and the other a female seems to have put alittle bit of her weight back but she has had ALOT of hair loss. She also had skin removal not long after her weight loss. Both seem deficient in vitamins etc. I just dont want to go through all this and ultimately end up gaining it back. Id like to think that I could say on target and make a change in my eating habits and the types of food I eat but seeing others starting to put the weight back on makes me second guess doing it.

Lying about not getting surgery is awful
WanderingHeart replied to GinormousReislin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I believe we leak energy when we keep secrets because that act in itself requires energy and attention. However, I did keep mine a secret from many people before the surgery bc I’m susceptible to people pleasing and I wanted to be sure of my decision only for me, regardless of what anyone else says. Timing is important. I finally told my dads side of the family this week when I felt ready to answer questions. Ultimately, everyone needs to do things in their own time. We all protect our mental health in different ways. -
The weight loss is so much slower than I expected
WanderingHeart replied to newyorklady20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The food plan is not aligned with what I believe is important. It is focused purely on losing weight and not on health and nutrition. I’ve made adjustments from the beginning to incorporate whole food but I haven’t given up dairy bc of the protein. Now that I can eat meat, I’m going paleo. thank you for your input, but I value whole food over a faster weight loss. -
Surgery Scheduled and Telling No One
hrnelson79 replied to ShanIAmVA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I told basically everyone (I am a very open person about pretty much everything) and received SO MUCH negativity! Even from people I thought would understand. It's absolutely implied that people think of this as the easy way which is such BS. This is the hardest thing I've ever done to lose weight. Regular dieting is nothing compared to this. So many people told me all about all the other ways to lose the weight (as if I'd never tried before) or that I wasn't fat enough to require surgery for help. Luckily I have a very supportive partner who has been wonderful. I applaud your decision and really hope it goes well for you! -
Surgery Scheduled and Telling No One

Even though this wasn't directed at me- I still apperciate your input!! I told no one (except my boyfriend) and am glad I made that decision- im only 3 days post op but feel like certain friends would judge me and I don't have time for that bs. -
Revision from sleeve to bypass 8 days post op
nbw1220 replied to funky's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had my revision on March 29th and it was a much longer surgery than we had anticipated .. took about 5 or 6 hrs but everything turned out okay.. I stayed an extra day in the hospital bc of how tired I was.. I could barely sip anything. Recovery at home went well. I did have A LOT of pain but that was probably due to the additional work they had to do and the length of surgery..I had more scarring and my sleeve was bigger than they thought..I am feeling great now..down 18lbs, no heartburn, Gerd or acid relux. It is slower this time around but I was also much bigger with my first surgery. Hw ever:400 Day of Sleeve surgery:350 Lw post op 1-2yrs: 230 Hw prior to revision: 290 Day of revision surgery: 278 1st day Post op: 288 Cw :260 -
HI! I just recently had the sleeve April 29th and im worried about my transition back to work! im a nurse and with covid, the acuity is super high. were supposed to get like a breakfast break and a lunch break but I can't ever remember taking more than 15 minutes break during a 12 hour day. I really nervous about getting my water in or having time to sit down and drink my drinks and eat my food. I should be going back may 18th, so starting phase 2 diet. Please, any nurses out there or anyone who also does labor intense jobs where you're on your feet for 12+ hours, pls give me advise on making sure I get my water in??? At home its no problem bc I sit with my water right next to me but I can't do that at work, were not even allowed water at the nurses station. anyways, please help and ill take any advice you've got!

Anyone for October 2020?
Coexister replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been listening to podcast by Corinne - Losing 100 pounds as she talks about the emotional side of losing weight and how weight loss and keeping it all is a matter of fixing our emotions and fixing the head work. She is amazing! She says it like it is such as don't eat your feelings because feelings aren't hungry and don't need to be fed. You can listen to her podcast for free here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/losing-100-pounds-with-corinne/id1233384453 or check out her No BS weightloss program website here : https://www.phit-n-phat.com/ -
Congratulations I just did it on my own I was fed up plus I had horrible diherrea as soon as I added some solid food it went away

When I met with the nutritionist we went through the weight loss attempts I had made before - I had done weight watchers twice, lost a lot of weight through diet and exercise on my own, done intermittent fasting. Nothing had been medically supervised, except for taking a doctor prescribed weight loss medication (I lost weight with everything except the pills), but it all apparently counted. I have BC/BS but each state and each plan is slightly different. I still have to do their 4 months of group nutrition classes, and I've done two months of those. I think it's good that you've done the documentation. You might also consider signing up for Weight Watchers, because they seemed to love that I had done that, even thought I lost more weight on my own. But that might just have been my surgery center.

Gas - pain - hunger - nausea
SabrenaR replied to DD87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its 7pm here where I am. I didnt have much pain when I sipped, more like discomfort. But, I did have pain if I sipped too fast behind one another, oh yeah, I definitely felt pain..it was bad. So just take it slow, your tummy is swollen & inflamed & very sensitive. So take small sips out of those one ounce cups, if it takes you 5-10mins to do so, then do that..don't force it, slowly sip every 15minutes. Try to get up & move around as much as u can, dont over do it but to help get those gas pains moving around & out of you & to keep from setting up blood clots. I know its painful, trust me I know, once I got home, 5 days later I was rushed back to the ER for severe pain, thought I had a Leak, thank GOD it wasn't! I just did too much..so please dont push yourself like I did bc I can be dangerous & very painful. My daughter eventually stayed with me to help me up & down until I was able to do it all on my own without any pain. You have to find what works best for you! Stick with it, follow your surgeon's plans & orders as well as your nutritionist & stay sipping for hydration..you'll be just fine! 😊
