  1. I have been actively trying to up my calories every day. Yesterday, I got over 700 calories and over 80 grams of Protein (and half of the protein was from "real" food). I was in the middle of the "three week stall," and I have finally shown a 1 pound plus loss each of the last two days. I think that the extra calories helped me here. Being able to add scrambled eggs this week really helped. And I can add fish on Sunday. That will hopefully make a difference, too!

    Odd sense of calm/confidence?

I understand how you're feeling. I started my journey in February with my PCP and I weighed 397 pounds (a BMI of almost 53). She referred me to the man that would become my surgeon, and I had my first of six required monthly appointments with his staff on March 3. They had no weight loss expectations, but I said I wanted to lose 40 pounds (about 10% of my body weight). Once I got going, I was determined to make the most of that time. As the months went on, my confidence grew, and on the day of surgery (September 28), I had lost 99 pounds. I won't lie; I was freaked out from about a week before the surgery until the anesthesiologist knocked me out. But, my pre-op success gave me a certain leg-up in the process (at least in my mind). I walked into that hospital looking like a million bucks very proud of what I had already accomplished. This confidence has helped me tremendously post-op as well. I am convinced it has helped to speed my recovery, meet my Protein and Fluid goals, and stay positive even when I felt like hell those first few days home. Also, when I hit that "three week stall" (and so will you -- it happens to everyone), I have handled that much better as a person who has already lost almost 120 pounds as opposed to a person in the same situation who has just gotten started and has only lost 20 pounds. All this is to say have the confidence, embrace it, and let it work to propel you toward your goals. The sky is the limit, and you can achieve whatever you want to achieve! Best wishes!

    Frustrated and Discouraged

The good news is you've done absolutely nothing wrong. It's very normal to stall at around 3 weeks out from surgery. 99% of us did it, and if you search "Three week stall" on this forum or even Google, you'll get a thousand results. Stay the course, keep getting in your liquids and Protein and it will pass. Promise.
  4. happens to almost everyone - a stall within the first month of surgery. Search "three week stall" (that's what we call it, since it usually (although not always) occurs during week 3 post-surgery)
  5. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. Things progressing fine. No problem with liquid or Protein requirement. Am able to eat soft foods prepared in the blender. Even turkey meat loaf and tuna. Cannot eat much or I feel stuffed. About 1/2 cup is my limit. Ground chicken chili with soft white Beans has been my latest. I was losing pounds fairly steadily until this week. I've lost 35 pounds since beginning the two week liquid diet on Sept 5. Now I seemed to have stalled. I've heard of the three week stall so has anyone else experienced it? My Doc says to stay away from the scales for a while because I'm replacing fat with lean muscle tissue. I just can't resist stepping on those scales every morning. Any of you sleevers experience the stall? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

19 days out No energy and not losing much?

I felt much the same as you did at 4 weeks out -- and don't forget the oft-mentioned "three week stall" which I got about the 4th week. Sounds like you may be there yourself. Your body is learning to live on many fewer calories so you'll have a lack of energy/stamina for a while. I'm just over 5 months out now and feel great -- I started going to exercise classes at about 6 or 8 weeks and had enough energy to do OK but it has gotten better over time. Worrying makes you feel worse too!

No weight loss in 3 days

You're going to have lots of days where this happens, fluctuations are completely normal! I was sleeved 9/19 and am mentally preparing for the dreaded three week stall by stepping off my scale and moving to weekly instead of daily weigh-ins. At 10 days out your most important tasks are to hit your Fluid intake and Protein goals, walk walk walk and rest. Everything else will fall into place! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling hungry all the time...

agree with @@M579 -- "empty burning sensation" is very likely stomach acid, not true hunger. Talk with your surgeon about more/better PPI's and see if that doesn't take care of it. The stall in weight loss starting around the third week post op is completely normal. You can search the forums here (or even Google) for "three week stall vsg" or "third week stall bariatric surgery" or "3 week stall weight loss surgery" and you'll see that virtually everyone goes through this. Hang tight and stay off the scale for a few weeks, things will pick up again. Good luck!
  9. Look for posts about the three week stall. Happens to most of us somewhere between 2-5 weeks out. Give it a month or so and see what happens!

    3 weeks out

I am right there with you!! My surgery was 9/10 and I weigh every Sunday! Last week I was down 26, and this week...... Exactly still 26 . It's the three week stall. I am just going to focus on fluids and Protein this week and not go near the scale until next week. I was also told that our bodies have a "memory" too, and I can't help but notice that I was stuck at 238 for about a year, which is exactly where I am now. So smile and embrace it, some of us are arm in arm with ya right now Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    3 weeks out

@@lilijo, Congratulations on your surgery! Yep, the three-week stall is definitely a thing, especially when your first few weeks after surgery have seen such fast weight loss, like you! Your body is just catching up from the stress of surgery and the quick weight loss. You’ll lose again when you’re ready as long as you follow the program! In the meantime, what should you do? Stay positive, because there is no point in getting down about something you cannot control. Stick to your diet, since that is what will let your body lose more weight when it is time. Bump up your liquids, since that can never hurt. Focus on non-scale victories, since there will be TONS of progress during this time, like feeling better and losing inches if not pounds. Congratulations again, and good luck!

5 weeks out and gained 2lbs?!?

Believe it. I had a stall weeks 2 and 3 post-op. Almost everyone has their first one some time in first 4-6 weeks. In fact, we call it "the three week stall", because it often happens the third week, but not always. Just keep sticking to your program and it will break. Once mine broke, I dropped like 6-8 lbs in just a couple of days

    Regretting Surgery!

Please don't be discouraged. Easier said than done. I had a three week stall week 3,4&5. I was disgusted upon my visit to nutrionist until she used her contraption that measurse BI. I lost 9 lbs of fat. Its equivalent is spprox 3lbs a wk. If your are not seeing a nutionist you can pick up a scale that measures body fat as well. Keep on keepin on! Its gonna come off. Reassurance/Thoughts?

Yep. I'm in the same boat. I've heard of the "three week stall" before. I'm trying not to worry too much about it.

    August 30 Sleevers Post Here!

I had my sleeve 8/8/16. I'm down about 53pds, but I have alot of pain between my shoulder blades. I always had alot of lower back pain, never there. Not sure whats going on. I'm down 1/2bp med. Not having any trouble getting down Protein or Water. I do use an exercise bike 7days a week 1/2 hr to one hour on weekends. Plus walk at work 8,000 steps. I was on a three week stall at week 3, and pretty sure I'm in another one. Hope this will help people. Down 2 sizes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using the BariatricPal App
  17. Oh goodness. You aren't "stalling"- I know that it's common for us to refer to the three week stall. You are HEALING. Your body is ADJUSTING. It needs to re-work the way it is now processing not only food, but your energy stores. You've just shocked the crap out of your system! Lol. Give it a chance to figure it out! I am a firm believer, at over 100 pounds down, that a stall goes on much much longer than this. In between, it's simply adjusting. I've said it before- I count the "decades" of pounds I lose--- 240-230 190-180 etc. the numbers in between are of no consequence to me. They bounce, change and do all kinds of erratic things- until they don't and I plummet into the next "decade". For me, right now, it's the 170's. 160's will come but if I worried daily about the 2 pounds up and down for a few days In between , I'd go bonkers. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App This has been the case in my pre-op weight loss as well. Some "decades" just skirt by in 2 weeks; others are almost painfully slow. The body is a strange monster sometimes. (And it is always the "decades" around a milestone weight that are the slowest for some reason -- some sort of strange, cosmic humor, I suppose!!)

A weight plateau after 3 weeks?

Our bodies are complex systems, not simple machines. @@Babbs has a great explanation of the technical/biological reason for the three week stall.
  20. Bufflehead

    Why has the scale stopped?

I mean this in a totally kind way . . . the only thing you are doing wrong is not knowing that virtually everyone stalls between about weeks 3 and 5. Seriously. You can search the forums here for "three week stall" or even just do a basic Google search for "third week stall weight loss surgery" or "3 week stall vsg" or anything like that. You'll see that this is pretty much the most common thing ever after surgery. I think it is a shame that more surgeons don't educate their patients to expect it! You are not doing anything wrong with respect to eating, exercise etc. Just stay off the scale for 2-3 weeks (maybe measure yourself to see if you are losing inches -- yes it can be true that you lose inches but not pounds!). The weight loss will start up again I promise, and don't stress out or beat yourself up over doing anything "wrong." It sounds like you are doing incredibly well, but are stuck at the third week stall like we all were and all future wls patients will be. You are in good company
  21. look up "three week stall". It happens to almost everyone, and it's not always at the three week mark. But sometime within the first month or two, almost everybody has a major stall. Mine lasted two weeks. Just stick to your program - it'll break. After mine ended, I dropped like 6 or 8 lbs just in a couple of days.

    3 weeks out and stalled

go up to the search box and type in "three week stall". It happens to pretty much everybody! I think your body just need to recalibrate or something. Just stick to your plan and the stall will break. I stalled for two weeks, but then I dropped like 6 or 8 lbs within a couple of days after it broke
  23. Stalling for a couple of weeks starting at three weeks post-op is completely normal. You can use the search function on this site to look for "three week stall" or even just Google "three week stall vsg" or "week three stall weight loss surgery" or anything like that and see that you are far from alone! Just keep following your program and stay off the scale for a while if it will stress you out. Good luck!

First stall 3 weeks out [emoji853]

Google "three week stall gastric sleeve" or "three week stall vsg" or "three week stall weight loss surgery" and you will see you are not alone. Keep following your program, stay off the scale for a while, and don't give in to stress about it. The scale will start moving again eventually. And yes, constipation can contribute to "stalls" and even "gain" -- poop weighs a lot more than people think and it will show up on the scale!
