    Roller Coasters After VSG

I went at about 5 weeks, I made sure to carry water and sugar free Gatorade. I had no issues, but listen to your body.
  2. So I got my VSG on 3/28. My birthday is 5/7 and my friend wants to take me to an amusement park (I LOVE roller coasters) but that is about 3-2 days short of me being 6 weeks post op. It is a long way to go if I won't be able to ride any rides. I REALLY want to go and will obviously listen to my body but is it a bad idea to try to go? If I start with milder rides and make sure I snack and stay hydrated do you all think I could/should go?

    Planning on getting the sleeve

As the other commenters have stated, the biggest regret is only that I didn't do it sooner. Yes, the first few weeks can be difficult (the gas pains for the first few days reallllly suck, but they will subside as you get up walking), however, it gets easier as time goes on. The ecstasy you will feel as the pound melt away will make everything worth it. More importantly, you will get healthier, and with any luck, your asthma may less or totally subside.

    Pre-op diet

No joke. 3 was hard too. The 4th wasn't too bad. So it is getting easier. That first week, though.
  5. Not sure what effect the Heller Myotomy procedure would have, but I'm almost 5 months post gastric bypass and smoke a couple nice cigars a week. My surgeon told me it would not be a problem. At my age, the very slight long-term effect is inconsequential compared to the enjoyment of my simple pleasures. It's like anything else, weigh the options and decide.

    Is this enough?

I agree with the others - exercise only accounts for about 10% of weight loss (although it's great for your health!). It seems to be more effective once you hit maintenance (research shows this - I'm currently taking a graduate level nutrition class on obesity and weight loss). most people are encouraged to get at least 150 minutes a week of exercise for health - more for weight loss/maintenance (up to 300-ish hours). Strength training 2x a week, cardio three or more times a week, so you're doing great there. But you also need to have a routine that you like and are likely to continue long term. Your routine sounds fine - but are you OK with it? You don't need to add to it unless you really want to - unless you want to add some variety to keep it interesting. For my cardio, I rotate walking, swimming, water aerobics, biking (when the weather cooperates), and cardio dancing (such as Zumba). I also do walking videos (youtube) a lot in the winter (like "Walk Away the Pounds"). I need the variety since I'm susceptible to "fitness burnout"...

    Planning on getting the sleeve

I got the bypass rather than the sleeve, but my answer would be the same regardless. The first few weeks post-surgery can be rough and some people initially do have regrets, but once they get through that, almost no one has regrets other than they wish they'd have done it sooner. Having this surgery changed (and probably saved) my life. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Best decision I've ever made!

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Awww. I’m sure - it’s quite an emotional journey and so much going on for the body and mind. Baby steps is all it’s going to be about now. I’m doing pretty alright. Def much better week 2 in the pain dept. Trying to get closer to protein and water goals with each passing day. I struggle with artificial sugar tastes. I’m on puréed and getting very bored with how limited it is (for my program at least), though I had excitement when I came across a recipe for baked ricotta and it was absolutely delicious. Hoping my appts coming up next week advance me to soft foods.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Up and down, but mostly up. My hormones got the best of me the first week and I did a lot of crying and even some feeling sorry for myself. Now I'm just fighting exhaustion. I feel like if I can get my strength back I can conquer the world, but taking it day be day. I appreciate you asking! How are you doing so far?
  10. Hello friends! 2 and 1/2 years out post VSG, donated a kidney to my daughter 15 months ago and had a full tummy tuck with muscle repair 5 ish months ago, here is my issue/concern. I have seen my Bariatric team, primary dr, kidney transplant team and I am still have no real understand of what’s happening!!! they slapped a Dexcom on me die to crazy blood sugars. Spike to over 350 and at night drop below 40, yes I said 40. Full on symptoms of hypoglycemia aboit 4 days out of the week despite anything I try with my diet. The endo ordered acarbose for me three times a day, I’m carrying glucagon nasal spray for my lows that get bad. all my blood tests come out pretty good, my A1c is a little higher than I would like it and they are throwing around things like insulin resistance (blood tests don’t show it), pre diabetes and insulinoma. My Bariatric team is a little concerned because they have never had to treat anyone with acarbose (anti-diabetic medication) and it isn’t supposed to lower my lows at all but help lower my spikes after meals. I’m eating super low carb and high protein and all the dietitian could give me for advice was to cut out bananas. Has anyone here out a year or two dealt with such a thing. I can’t take a lot of medications due to only having one kidney?? im just out of ideas and options !!!

    Help 😞

Hey everyone, I had my sx gastric sleeve 2/20 and I’m almost 10 weeks out. It’s been complications since surgery and I don’t know what else to do neither do the doctors. I have sever pains in my chest and feels like a ball sitting in my throat. I did a second surgery of fixing hiatal hernia and I’m 2 weeks out from this. I been in and out the hospital I can’t eat or keep food down. When I do eat food the pain of twisting and burning the moment food touches my stomach. I throw up a ball of mucus. I can’t even take oral medications and I’m at lost and regret if everything in life after this surgery. Anyone can give me pointers? Anyone been through this? I cry everyday I can’t eat or drink anything besides water. The doctor last told me it’s in my head? Like what kinda comment is that my surgeon doesn’t even respond a doctor in Mexico who is very popular in social media and 2 my friends got their surgeries there but not going through what I’m going through… help 😭

    First time

Hello and welcome. Any surgery is tough on mind and body in the first 2 weeks. Bariatrics take it to another level when we have to drink and all our new tiny stomach wants to do is eject it. Just do your best, I was told that would be ok for a few weeks. It took the pressure off somewhat. I must confess I did not do some vitamins for months. Get passed this week and you will feel better. Ring your team if you start to get overwhelmed with pain or nausea etc

    Hurry Up and Wait!

This process is very much "hurry up, then wait"! I should have been able to have all my requirements done in three months but I will be six months in when I get my surgery in June. Also if you dont like the DR I would look to find someone else. I have been extremely impressed with my surgeon and his staff this far.

    First time

Everyday it will get better. You just have to remember this is a journey. I am 4 months out today and I remember the first two weeks were rough.

    Is this enough?

Hello, I know I work out a lot BUT I am not sure if its enough. Let me clarify by saying I want to work hard my first year. I currently work out 6-7 days a week BUT it looks like this: Monday: 30 minute Personal Trainer - ARMS and then a 2 mile walk home Tuesday: Walk 2 miles home or walking in place for 10k steps Wednesday: 30 minute Personal Trainer - LEGS and then a 2 mile walk home Thursday: Walk 2 miles or walking in place for 10k steps Friday: 2 mile walk home and mild strength training (15 min) Saturday and Sunday: Usually 1 day of a 5 mile walk and the other be a smaller walk/hike. I get about 400-500 minutes of activity on my Apple Watch a week. I am not dripping sweat during all those minutes tho. I am part of three StepBets this month so I get at least 9k steps a day. What would you add? Or am I just being paranoid.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Hi, friend. I had bypass on the 11th and I'm definitely still struggling with some fatigue and light-headedness, although starting on soft foods has definitely helped. Are you meeting your protein goals? I don't think I would be close to mine without my one protein shake that I throw in some decaf iced coffee in the morning. Did they have you stop your Trulicity after surgery? That would definitely account for your numbers going up. I stalled weight loss wise for a few days too and then saw a big drop yesterday. I hope sincerely that your lightheadedness goes away and your energy comes back very soon. ❤️ Edit: "I stalled" not "installed"
  17. I've had my sleeve surgery on March 23rd. I was 326 lbs before the liquid diet, dropped down to 310 just a day before surgery and now I'm between 271 and 275. Today (April 20th) kinda marks my 1 month post op and I've been hospitalized twice! The first time happened was when I was switching over to a multivitamin pill from a chewable. (2 weeks post op) Once I popped that pill and swallowed it, I felt it opened in my stomach and left a extremely bitter taste and threw up all of my medication and made me weak. Went to the hospital and they said that I was dehydrated. Thank you multivitamin pill for making me feel this way. They gave me IV and sent me home the same day. The second time, which was last Saturday (4/15), I was sitting on my couch taking a little nap because I was a little tired. I woke up and left my plate from my lunch on my table. I got up, took it in the kitchen and right away felt so exhausted! My partner saw me and said what's wrong? I remember saying help me to the couch. 15 seconds later and I was on the floor by my bathroom. I've actually lost consciousness for 15 seconds and let's just say that I didn't make it to the toilet in time... Went back to the hospital for test and lab work and my red blood cells were at a all time low. They gave me IV and magnesium. Stayed overnight. When my levels were somewhat normal, they sent me home. Today, had an appointment with my regular doctor. He said that I'm mild anemic and things will slowly get better overtime. I have another appointment to go to tomorrow and that's with my bariatric surgeon. Almost everyday, im having nausea. Making it a little difficult to take my medication/vitamins and eat/drink. If I knew my body would be going through this, I never would have did this!

    March 23 buddies yet?

I thought my progress was slow going, too. Even this week I'm feeling a little down about it. But two steps forward and one step back is still progress (my daily affirmation lol), even if it's not what we're hoping to see.

Pain When Eating - NOT Stomach Pain

Update! I am one month and three weeks post-op, and I've had some dramatic improvements. Chewing thoroughly has helped the most with the pain, though some foods still do not go down easy (smoked sausage, heavily fried foods, etc.), but not a whole lot. I got sick once when I ate some asparagus and tomatoes (cooked), but I think I ate them too quickly. It was not very bad, but it was unpleasant, as getting sick always is. I also had blood tests, and all of my numbers went down! I'm most excited for my cholesterol, as it's 185 and was over 200 previously. Most days, I start with a protein shake for breakfast, then a higher protein pasta with lots of fiber (handfuls of spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.), and some pre-cooked meat for lunch. Lean Cuisine protein meals are perfect sizes for me right now, though I don't finish them all. I don't want to overly rely on frozen food, but on the days I don't feel like eating what I cooked, it's a nice option to have. Dinner is usually soup - Proper Good is my favorite, made with lots of bone broth for extra protein, or Amy's soups. Snacks include mini Babybel cheeses, protein puddings, Greek yogurt, and Braniac brain bars. I have PCOS, so I try to eat to balance my hormones with an emphasis on protein and a healthy amount of good fats and fiber. I have lost 35 pounds so far, and I can't tell a difference yet physically, but my energy levels are SO MUCH BETTER. I don't feel like I'm constantly fatigued, and I've been able to do loads of spring cleaning after a full work day. I was cleared to start resistance training, so in addition to walking for 30 minutes 5x a week, I'm incorporating 2-3x a week of resistance workouts. They're small right now, and not very intense (10 minutes tops), but I like to think it'll still benefit me. 😅 Thank you to everyone who's been replying to me. I really appreciate it!
  20. I feel the exact same. I was on a 30 day pre-op diet and lost 18lbs. I was sleeved on 03/20 and have only lost 10lbs since surgery. I was cleared for exercise last week so i have been doing growwithjo youtube videos. I was stalled from 1 week post op until last week with no weight loss at all. I am also at stage 3 so i can eat soft foods, during the pureed stage which started 2 days post op i just ate canned food mashed with a fork because pureed texture disgust me. Let's all hope we reach our goals sending you all lots of love ❤️

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Worried I am doing something wrong and looking for some insights. Had gastric bypass on 4/12 and over all feeling better each day. I am noticing my morning fasting blood glucose levels starting to climb. Was in the 90s in the hospital and now this morning at 124. Pre op was on trulicity 1.5 1x a week for type 2 diabetes. I still get very tired easy and am lightheaded most of the day. Have had some vision changes since surgery as well. Starting weight 231 - 4/20 today 224 which has not changed for 3 days post op weight 239 went up day after surgery and is now at 224 Started foods on Sunday with dr recommended : 3oz protein and half cup veggie2x a day or fruit 1x a day - every meal is measured and strict to guidelines. My surgeon does not allow any protein shakes or any processed food of any kind. drinking minimum 64oz water up to walking 1.5-2 miles per day

    Hurry Up and Wait!

I paid all the money. It still took 8 long months. It was during Covid, all the NHS hospitals were filled with Covid patients so many people were paying to go Private for all their surgery needs. I wanted the surgery SO badly that the waiting hurt. I have never been told that I am a patient person Had I lived in the US, my wait could have been less than a week in some cities.

    DS possible after gastric sleeve?

Yes, absolutely possible, as Catwoman suggests; indeed, many talk in terms of this as being a "completion" of the DS rather than a "revision". I don't know specifically of anyone in those states who does it - DS surgeons are still fairly few and far between, at least ones who do the "traditional" or Hess DS. The simpler SADI "loop DS" has more who do it, but that's really a distinct procedure that should be considered on its own merits. In earlier years, Dr. Rabkin in SF (who did my VSG and my wife's DS) had an active support group in the Seattle area as he had a fairly large contingent of patients there, though they have dissipated in activity, as we tend to do over time. For a DS, one should usually count on having to travel for them, even if one is in a major metropolitan area. Fortunately most DS surgeons are very used to travelling patients and are equipped to do remote consults before and after surgery, so it's mostly a trip of a couple weeks time for the surgery and everything else can be done remotely.
  25. Yes I did and truthfully, and honestly he about killed me. Tools were left inside of me. I had a leakage when I was there, and he acted like it was not a big deal but it was I was septic. I got on my plane to go back to the United States three days later, which takes longer than that for you to go in complete septic. When I got the United States, I instantly was transferred by ambulance from airport. Five surgeries later to save my life. Each one not expecting to live. Now I do not have a stomach at all and only half of my intestines and cannot get enough protein and because of that I have had a heart attacks degenerative bone disease and multiple other elements. Whatever you do, do not go to this guy. I would not say this if it was not true. Nothing can change what happened to me but at least I can let other people know not to live the life I am living. This guy should be imprisoned and never let go. And the problem is there’s nothing you can do about it because it’s a different country.
