  1. Hi my little buddies, I wanted to update my progress. I am actually doing very well. I crossed my legs for the first time last night since 2004, NSV. I was so proud. Everyone has given many compliments. My kids look at me funny because I don't really look like their mom. I've been exercising since pre-op but at the moment I'm doing Elliptical 40 minutes in the morning and walking 30 during lunch. I was walking 3-4 miles a day and had to slow down due to Achilles tendonitis. Feeling much better with that. I'm eating 3 meals a day with 2 Snacks a day. I try to eat 200 @ meal and 100 @ snack time. I'm eating 20-30 carbs a day and average 800 calories a day. Things I eat: Deli turkey string cheese boiled eggs, love these tuna all meats and fish except chicken, ouch! Usually can only eat 2 oz at a time Hummus salad, ranch dressing green Beans and spinach, etc. SF popsicles and Jello w/SF whipped cream. Yum!!! Hot chocolate, SF Just started eating 1 oz walnuts for a snack I'm only losing about 2 lbs a week now. I can tell my body is readjusting. I have lost a bunch of inches, not sure of total. I know I've lost 10 off waist and 9 off hips. My blood sugars are still amazing and I'm so thankful. I just took my blood sugar after dinner and it was 94. Yahoooooo! I am having one continuous problem though, I constantly have to remind myself to slow down eating. I do get full before I eat my required 3 oz of Protein but it is so hard to slow down my eating. Bad habits sometimes are hard to break. I am working on it though. Another problem is seeing myself as thinner. I don't feel as thin as I am. I now weigh 246, but some days still feel 324. I work hard on this journey and love every minute of it. I, as I'm sure most of you, have always worked hard at slimming down but had always had a force pushing against me. I now know I have a tool that is on my side and we're working together to make my life better. I wish you all the best of luck and would love to encourage anyone that has questions or fears about the sleeve. Please don't hesitate to message me if you need any help. I am far from knowing it all, but would like to help in any way I can.

    My favorite NSV!

    Awesome NSVs!
  4. I love flying and riding roller coasters. Both of these things are hard for someone who is 160 pounds overweight. I flew to NYC in June (120 pounds down!) and didn't have to ask for a seatbelt extension! And today we are at Worlds of Fun and I can ride EVERY RIDE! I love weightloss!!

    Wedding Dress

You look gorgeous!! That is such an awesome NSV!! What was your hubby's reaction to seeing you in the dress again?

    Bridesmaid dress question

It's great that you like the dress, it doesn't always work out that way. I think we've all been there. About your arms, ya know, you may be surprised, I never wear sleeveless. Ever. Now, I look down at my arms and they are starting to appear dare I say, normal? Huh? Did I just say that? From the perspective of just looking at them in something sleeveless, they look normal now. Of course I lift them and the batwings are there but I'm starting not to care because the rest is starting to look normal. I guess that can be a NSV??
  7. Smiling for you! Awesome NSV! Buy some new shorts on your son's dime! And the shorts didn't get big, you got smaller!!!

    Wedding Dress

Wow! Great NSV! Unlike the others I was about 120 when I got married, and it wasn't in a long wedding dress. But I am sure, it would still be too small as I have never been that small again. Congrats, to all you brides who either can make it into your small wedding dress, or to all of you who don't want to EVER fit into your wedding dress again!
  9. Today is my 13th wedding anniversary so I decided to try on my wedding dress. I am about 15 pounds heavier than I was on that day so I tried not to get my hopes up too high. It was a but of a struggle and I had to do some serious sucking in but I got it on and zipped!!! It was an exciting NSV! I didn't think I'd ever be able to put it on again.
  10. OK, so I'm cooking dinner for my grandchildren and my son walks in the front door proceeds over to my granddaughter and whispers in her ear. My granddaughter age 11 comes over and whispers in my wars "Grandma, pick up your shorts they've fallen below your butt. I looked down and said oh my goodness so they have. So, these shorts used to fit nice and now they've gotten too big! I'm losing slowly and it's driving me crazy that my son does not have a bathroom scale in his house I'm assuming I've lost weight but it would be nice to know. I don't return back to my home in FL until August 1st. I'm hoping I have a loss along with this embarrassing but cute NSV!
  11. Had surgery on 05/20/13 went to buy a summer outfit to go to San Diego! I was able to get a size medium Summer dress, the large was huge! Very exited! Love my sleeve!! Pre-op 231 Surgery day 221 Today 198

    A New Day

Good Morning all, Very tired this evening...long day to Charlotte and back. We found what we were hoping to. We opted for marble with this kitchen. The designer w as against it, as the stone is more fragile than granite. If the sons were still living with us, I might have chosen granite. But with just the 2 of us it should be doable. Dawn, I hope you enjoyed your birthday! And yes, in response to something you wrote some days back, it would be wonderful for all of us to meet at some point in the future. You're doing so well with your commitment to exercise! Please let us know how your appointment with your bariatric doctor goes... Terri, bring cool clothing and Water with you to DC, you're going to need it. That pavement gets real hot. Enjoy your trip! BTW, what type of countertops did you end up choosing? Diane, never a need to thank us for love, support, or friendship...we are going to be here or on FB with you. I know your mom is keeping your life complicated, just take a day at a time, and breath deeply. Dee, so happy this is a great summer for you! What wonderful NSV's you have had. Just keep focused on your studies, you will reach your goals. I understand what you mean about the math. I'm number phobic. Keep us posted on your progress. Janet...I hope you and the family are well...you've been MIA. Love and miss you... Michelle, how was your weekend? I hope your keeping cool and enjoying your down time... Spa day tomorrow...I'm still trying to get accostomed to a new structure of my time with Jack home all the time. The cardiologist gave the approval today for the surgery on Friday. Neither one of us are looking forward to this, but it must be done. Everyone enjoy your Tuesday...and thank you for your friendship and support. It does help to know there are others who understand some of our unique challenges. Hugs...

    Wedding Ring

24 years ago, I had to have my wedding ring cut off. For Christmas this year, I had it put back together so I could wear it again! I have not had it off since then! NSV"s are the best!
  14. I really do not enjoy when the scale seems to get stuck for a few weeks. Usually during that time I really concentrate on either NSV or how my clothes are fitting. Though in my head I am thinking that I look like I was a teen but the mirror says something else. I guess somewhere in between lies the real you.

    Wedding Ring

What a great NSV. I'm able to wear rings again that I haven't worn in years. So satisfying!

    Derailing! Help!

On second thought, i think i will share on this subject. thanks for your honesty. I dont know that you're feeling this way or not. maybe its just me? im an at 6 months out,. i have about 40 lbs to get to goal. im at a size 12/14. my weight loss has been minimal over the past month. I mean, wow!, i havent been in a 12/14 in forever, i get hit on all the time. my hubs is much more interested in me in general. i feel like im looking more "normal". All in all, i think i'm looking really good. And the non-scale victories (NSVs) -- too numerous to count. I feel great The problem? i am feeling WAY to comfortable with myself at this point. I truly feel at this point that if i never lost another pound, i'd be relatively content. BUT... my goal is to be at 150. maybe be in a size 6. No problems with the sleeve at all now. I know exactly what to expect from it, lol. it's happier when i stay on plan, and acts up if i eat to close to bed or eat really spicy foods. other than that, it's easy now. Kinda too easy. Since i'm feeling so comfy right where im at, it's really hard to find that ,motivation to do those workouts. Since the sleeve is doing so good, its hard to make the best foods choices all the time (for example, beer is my current hangup {I know, bad, huh?}). I guess my point is- maybe its normal to have these feelings of loss of motiviation and disinterest at this point. Maybe its a "coming to terms" with the sleeve. if it is a normal part of the process, then its bound to change again soon, and we'll enter into the next phase of the sleeved. Everything in its own time. As for me, i'm gonna stay on program, do my workout, and try to help other people here-- just for today. (and no beer. lol) Today i need to keep my eye on the prize. After all, i could really rock a size 6!!

    NSV's

"This comes from the fat ass secret code book. (Don't tell anyone I let you in on it.)" Seriously, I almost spit my water on my screen laughing. Congratulations on your weight loss and NSV's!

    NSV's

Monday, July 15, 2013 Welcome back! Are you ready for your weekly beefy brief from your pudgy pundit? Ready or not, here comes another rant for the rotund. Let's start with a recap of the just past 4th of July holiday weekend. I will say it was a definite challenge! The old Johnny would have gained at least 5 pounds by feasting on ribs, burgers, fatty salads and sugary desserts during this fat-a-topia. I would have also had my Jimmy Buffet margarita maker working overtime rendering the frozen concoction that helps me hang on. Sunny summer holidays are the perfect excuse for gluttony of both food and drink. The good news is the New and Improved Johnny made it safely through this fat fest and actually lost 1-1/2 pounds. Whew! Let's get on with the NSV's. While a weekly weight loss is the ultimate goal, there are also other rotund rewards along the journey that are a by product of the weight loss. We call 'em Non Scale Victories. Hence the NSV. This comes from the fat ass secret code book. (Don't tell anyone I let you in on it.) I have had a few NSV's since I started my juggily journey. Mostly of the clothes variety. If we flashback to the day I got off the plane from Florida in early April, we will recall I was about 1 biscuit away from invoking my Level 3 emergency clothes protocol. That would have meant wearing only sweat pants and a moo moo. In other words, I was out of any wardrobe that I could wear out in public. Mercifully, I started my own pre-op - pre-op diet. My doctor wanted me to wait, but I didn't have an option. It worked. I was safely in my Level 2 fat wardrobe in a couple of weeks. I could work with this limited collection, so emergency averted. NSV number 1. In a couple more weeks, I found that my normal wardrobe (Level 1) was beginning to fit again. I was no longer gasping for air while wearing a tie and the threat of a sudden injury caused by a flying button from my pants had receded. I also found my golf shorts and casual shirts were no longer making me look like a stuffed sausage. I could feel the difference. NSV number 2. Then around the end of May, people started noticing that my fleshy face was starting to look smaller. I had a couple flabby friends ask me what me secret was. This made me take a good look at myself in the mirror. Wow! I could see the difference. I guess I was in a kind of fat fog and didn't pay attention. My body was changing. The good way this time. Another NSV. But I now I'm dealing with a couple unexpected consequences. Firstly, my golf swing has gone to hell. After 30 years of playing this stupid game, it's like I never swung a club before. My new, smaller body has really messed up my timing. Secondly, after 3 months of dieting and a loss of 38.5 pounds, my spiffy Level 1 wardrobe is starting to look huge on me. Seriously, I'm dressing up in my best stuff and it looks like I shop at Hobo Junction. People that don't know me are probably thinking my clothes are donated and I'm homeless. But I'm not complaining! These are GOOD problems. I knew the time for an intermediate wardrobe was coming. It kinda snuck up on me. I think I have another couple weeks at most with Level 1. Then it's on to the Marshall's and Steinmarts. I just need some cheap clothes to get me through to my final landing weight. Then I'll start the real restocking. So if you see a svelter looking guy in over sized clothing walking around, don't feel bad for him. It's either me or dieting hobo. Talk soon! Banding abbreviations...

Congrats on being banded ! Yes, Onederland means 199 or below, ( Like the old Toyota truck commercial says " Oh what a feeling !!!!! " ), WSL means weight loss surgery, NSV means a Non Scale Victory, (like your pants getting looser but it doesn't show up on the scale) etc.............. Anyone else have some ?
  21. ♕ajtexas♕

    Banding abbreviations...

NSV is non scale victory. Something changes due to your weight loss. Crossing your legs, sitting in a chair and your hips don't rub the sides. Things like that. PB is productive burp. When you eat too big a bit, don't chew enough and/or eat too fast you salivate and spit up similar to a baby spitting up. Those are the 2 used a lot. Congrats on your surgery and good luck.

    Summer Challenge-July!

Here I am again... Not a pound down...but NSV went from a size 22 to 16. So something is changing. Weight should follow.
  24. I am having NSV this week. I am sure my scale is broken (ha ha, for sure). The compulsive me wants to run out and buy a new one. Was visiting a friend this weekend out of town and almost ran into his bathroom and used his, but refrained as I realized it was too compulsive. Should just throw the darn thing out.
  25. I see this topic come up from time to time in here and I am FIRMLY in the hire a trainer camp. But I wanted to share an NSV that I had this morning. 24 sessions ago the trainer I hired did a baseline test on me which left me exhausted and wondering WTF did I get myself into. The baseline test was the following: 200 meter walk 12-9-6 of Squats, Pushups and Rows 200 meter walk My time was 13:34 seconds. Today we repeated the baseline test to see improvement and if you are like me I love me some numbers and percentages! I did the above workout in 9:30 seconds for an improvement of AT LEAST 32%, BUT I modified the workout with the above to make it even tougher! I RAN both 200 meters...instead of walking For all the squats I pushed DEEPER instead of wimping out half way down Pushups were lower on the bar instead of higher where it was so easy... Rows were on the rings and feet flexed So my point is while I push myself harder each session with my trainer, this is proof positive that I am healthier, faster, stronger! So if you were waffling or had a question about whether it will be worth it, I urge you to consider it.
