  1. I just got the caramel flavor premier protein and i love it. I'll check out the banana. I was hesitant to buy it but I'll take your recommendation. Thanks! I'm in puree phase now and about to go to soft solids but still need to get that protein in. I've been relying on greek yogurt as well so that's been a big help.

    Acceptable Liquids

My question is basically for those that have been through the liquid diet part of the RNY surgery. I was told that the liquid diet is basically Protein shakes. So I have picked up some Premier Protein drinks. I have both chocolate and strawberry & cream. I have to be on this 2 weeks before, and 2 weeks after my surgery. I was wondering about other liquids like V8 Splash Diet. Drinking plenty of Water has never been a real problem for me. So what would you suggest to break it up, so I am not drinking 4 shakes every day. I did buy a Ninja blender to make smoothies. I have been experimenting with that, and ESA Protein powder. Mainly Greek Yogurt based smoothies.
  3. On full liquids I was happy to add pureed soup. Cambells Bean and Bacon, Cream of chicken, Potato Soup. Thinned and pureed, it is such a tasty break from Protein drinks and yogurt.
  4. I am 9 days post-op and on a full liquid diet for another 5 days. I drink three protein shakes a day and am allowed two light yogurts, totaling about 800 calories. This is the same regimen I followed for two weeks pre-op. That was tough because I was starving most of the time. Since the surgery I'm quite full on the same 800 calories. It's boring for sure but it's only two weeks.

    What can I eat?

Thanks again!!! My Dr. is pure french and extremely hard to understand. When I went for my consultation, it wasn't that clear. I see him on Thursday for the first time since my surgery. According to him, this is my diet: Week 1&2: Water, Gatorade, broth, Jello, Popcycles Week 2&3: Hot Cereal, Strained Cream Soup, Milk, Yogurt, pudding, Milkshake and carnation instant breakfast Week 3&4: Boiled Egg, Soft cheese, Fish, Finely minced chicken, Well cooked Vegtables, Non-strained Soups, Stew (weird), Well cook Pasta This is me is serious punishment!! I am on week 2-3 and cannot understand what the difference is between hot cereal (instant porrage), and mashed potatoes!!! Really! I will discuss what you are eating when I see him on Thursday. I would like to be able to eat some of what you're eating. Thanks!

    Eating at work

I stocked up on 4oz containers too. I helped portion everything for taking to the office. I am lucky we have a refrigerator so I can keep items handy. Fat Free Yogurt is a great item to have at the office. Cheese sticks, I kept a container of Unjury Chicken soup and other soups in case I needed them. When I went back to the office, I was on one shake a day, I had that one in the morning and I blended it at home and put it in a travel cup. When I got to pureed foods, my favorite was chicken salad with a little cranberry sauce on top, great flavor.

    Low carb versus low calorie

I am days away from my six month surgiversary. The only carbs I get are from dairy (yogurt and cottage cheese), veggies, fruit (in my smoothies) and the occasional piece of flatbread/cracker or melba toast with cheese. On special occaisions, I may have 1-2 T of rice or mashed potatoes. I also have indulged in fried hushpuppies once in six months (just a couple). I do not eat white carbs (rice, noodles or bread(white or wheat)). Carbs are what I ate mindlessly before - I would anesthesize myself with them. It is better for me to stay away from them.

    I'm hungry... Help!

Everyone is different. I was not hungry when I woke up. I've never heard about not craving. Cravings are equal parts mental and physical so it is possible to not be hungry AND have cravings. As your doctor to prescribe something for the acid. I was started on omeprazole in the hospital which helped a lot. My Protein Shakes fill me up. Perhaps try adding some greek yogurt to help fill you. I use FAGE 0%. It's a great protein boost as well. Holiday food? Meh. However if you must, perhaps figuring out healthier versions of holiday food would help. It's not a magic wand, it's a tool. You have to do the work of learning new and healthier eating habits.
  10. I’m really struggling with things right now. I’ll be two weeks post op on Monday. I have my appt on Tuesday. Everything tastes so bad. It makes me sick. Like, actually eating is fine. My stomach doesn’t get upset, it doesn’t hurt, nothing like that. But it tastes so bad that I don’t want to eat anything. Is mental nausea a thing? I don’t get sick sick, but I’m still very repulsed by it. I’ve tried soooo many things and it all tastes awful. Various soups/broths, yogurt flavors, protein shakes, flavored water w/unflavored protein, pudding, jello... I force myself to drink one protein drink and a greek yogurt cup every day. Although, that’s even a struggle. So I’m averaging roughly 200 calories a day. And again, physically I absolutely think/know I could eat more but the tastes are just so bad. I was really, really sensitive to smells before hand so I don’t know if that has something to do with it? So, I haven’t found anything I remotely like... my friends all talk about their pizza and burritos and I really miss it especially not being able to find at least one thing I sort of like to eat right now. But even then I don’t think I’d like the taste of that stuff. I put cream cheese on a bagel for my daughter and licked a tiny bit off the knife and about gagged. And I freaking LOVED cream cheese before. I do take my vitamins twice a day. I mean, to be honest my chewable vitamins are the least offensive thing I eat each day... they taste like flintstone ones. Idk, I guess I’m just feeling down or frustrated. I hate all the food, wish I could just find something I like, and of course I just miss being able to eat normally. 5’6” 25 yo SW: 256
  11. I was starving at 5 days too! I started with Greek yogurt and that helped a lot - protein and it filled me up!

4 days post op...well, HELLO hunger!

I just had my surgery yesterday, and I was a little hungry. I ate some Jello and that filled me up. I get to eat cream Soups and yogurt tomorrow. Looking forward to the next phase of my life! Did you lose 28 pounds in a month? That is incredible!
  13. Curious what everyone had that was solid after surgery for food? I'm currently having shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese..but can't stop thinking about solid food! Wondering if you start bland or what others had? Sleeved 9/12/16
  14. When you were finally able to eat something, what did you go for? Even if it had to be pureed or soft...what did you make for your first non-liquid item? I just am looking forward to a different flavor than Protein shakes and yogurt...something savory and not sweet will be amazing.

    Unjury Protein

Hello I use the unflavored unjury Protein powder in cream of celery and cream of chicken soup, as well as tomato basil soup and I can't even tell that it's been added to the Soups. I also add the Unjury to non fat refried Beans and yogurt, and can't detect the flavor of the Protein Powder at all in those things. I tried Unjury in my lemonade flavored Crystal Light and I did notice it changed the flavor, and I didn't like it. Maybe if I had added less protein powder it would have been tolerable. You'll just have to play with it and see if you can try it in the Crystal Light and other drinks, such as Powerade Zero and decaf iced tea.

I think it's time to mention the noble avocado. Soft, easy to digest, lubes the insides, has good fats, and is considered a super food. Mash with fork and some Greek yogurt. And some nutritional yeast.... Yum.

    Still feel so weak.

I felt the same. Two weeks out. I have tried to do two things which helped me a lot: 1) Up your Protein. I add a bowl of greek yogurt to my Soup. Greek yogurt is very high in protein and an easy way to make your protein intake easier. I also try to blend an egg in the soup from time to time. 2) Water water water. The only two times I felt dizzy and low on energy is when I less than half what I need to drink. All the best.

My current favorite -- Fage Greek yogurt and Stevia on top.
  19. Each doctor has a little different routine to follow. But for now, on a full liquid diet you are usually good eating the following things: Water Fruit juices, including nectars and juices with pulp Butter, margarine, oil, cream, custard, and pudding Plain ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet. Fruit ices and popsicles Sugar, honey, and syrups Soup broth (bouillon, consommé, and strained cream soups -- but NO solids) Sodas, such as ginger ale and Sprite Gelatin (Jell-O) Boost, Ensure, Resource, Sustacal. and other liquid supplements Tea or coffee with cream or milk and sugar or honey Ask your doctor if you can include these foods in your full liquid diet: Cooked, refined cereals, such as Cream of Wheat, cream of rice, oatmeal, grits, or farina Strained meats, like the ones in baby food Potatoes pureed in soup Once you're able to move onto mushies/soft foods you'll be able to add more foods and they will taste WONDERFUL ... tuna/ham salad type foods, potatoes with gravy, etc. Oftentimes people get so sick of the food they are currently on and move on to solid foods and it can hurt more than help. Keep going!

  21. I don't know if you are a costco member or have a trader joes nearby.... but if you search for either of those you will find threads started by me where people put in "favorite finds" from those places. I like to cook but am often time challenged, so I love healthy - nearly ready to eat food. There are some who eat lean cuisine type dinners but I can't bring myself to do it. I feel like I eat so little - I want it to be stuff I love or at least like! I bet others will post some easy peasy stuff but here are just a few things: -greek yogurt -all natural sandwich meat with cheese, ideally wrapped around a dill pickle -low carb/low calorie/healthy sausages - there are several varieties I really like and can just heat and eat -I buy salmon patties (from Costco, but you can get them elsewhere) I grill em and put them on top of a yummy bed of salad greens. I use olive oil and white balsamic vinegar for dressing and it is really really good! -Do you like seafood - lots of places have ready to eat shrimp... yum -egg beaters and baby turkey sausages are a regular Breakfast for me - lots of Protein and very low cal/low carb -any kind of sandwich, but instead of bread, use a lettuce and make a wrap! -grocery stores often have premade things that are quite nice. It is expensive, but since 1 serving is probably 3 meals, it suddenly becomes more economical! -tuna in a pouch can be good over salad or as a main ingredient in one of those lettuce wraps Come on people - I know there are lots of other amazing ideas out there!

    Extremely Nervous...

I had Medicare, so they didn't require a 6 mth diet. So I had surgery exactly 3 weeks from my seminar. I also didn't have a pre op diet (which is rare). I was just told to eat a lite dinner the night before and nothing after midnight. I went to outback for ribs - thats what I considered lite back then! I stayed 1 nite in the hospital (required by Medicare) - your insurance will tell you whether you have to stay or can do OP. The pain was bearable - I had my liquid Vicodin, which I got refilled once. I don't work, but if I did, I think I would've been ready to go back after 1 week for a sitting job, maybe 2 for a more physical one. My pre op diet sucked. I misread my booklet and thought it said 4 weeks of clear liquids and Protein Shakes. I literally starved the first 2 weeks, till I added tomato Soup (thought I was cheating and didn't ell my dr). Come to find out after many month and after re reading my post op directions, I was sposed to be on full liquids for 4 weeks (to include cream Soups, yogurt, pudding) and I wasn't cheating at all! After 3 weeks of liquids only, I cheated and added mashed potatoes. The best thing I ever had. I could've bought stock in KFC! Please don't make the same mistakes as I did tho - my first "real" food was Burger King cheeseburger. Ate the whole thing and felt nothing. Ate normally (just like pre band) for the first 2 fills and 4 mths. Then came my 3rd fill - it was "MAGIC". That's when I really started losing weight. I eat everything, including bread, rice, Pasta. Alot of people can't tolerate them or are on a low carb diet. The only things my band won't tolerate is pizza crust, pineapple chunks, and pancakes (all the P's!) I just eat very little of it. When I go out for a meal (about 3x a week), I can eat about 1/4 - 1/3 of my meal and the rest comes home with me. I just got my restaurant card in the mail today (make sure you get one from your dr) (I've lost the last 2 I've had) which asks restaurants to serve you smaller portions or the kids menu. They charge you the kids price at buffet - it's really nice since I don't eat $12.00 worth of food - ever! The kids menu isn't very healthy, though, so you really have to be careful. I still go to buffets occasionally, only filling my plate once, taking a couple bites of everything. You'll be fine. We're all anxious before surgery. The pain really isn't all that bad. The worst thing is the liquid diet, but if I can do it, anyone can! Good luck! Marci
  23. This is what I eat in a typical day: Breakfast- Cottage Cheese or a scrambled egg with cheese. Lunch-Turkey & Cheese Roll ups....I can probably eat 2 now and I am 2 months out. Dinner-Baked Boneless Chicken Breast, Broiled Fish or Seafood, a few bites of a soft veggie.... In between I try to eat a greek yogurt that is high in protein. I will also eat a hard boiled egg in the afternoon between lunch and dinner. If I haven't gotten all of my protein in I will have a shake or an Atkins Advantage Bar....the bars are really good and low in Carbs and Sugar. I drink crystal light all day long...as much as I can. I don't get in the full 64 ounces but I sure do try...lol
  24. I'm asking for help here. I'm miserable. I was sent home with a 24 hr liquid diet then after that mushies. Have been tolerating mushies and protein shakes and water but I cannot shake nausea and the feeling of being full no matter whether I've eaten, drank, or not. The only time I feel my best is first thing in the morning when I wake. When I first drink something is when I start to feel full. At first, I'm sorry to be graphic here but I need to be, yesterday had marked a week since a BM so I had taken Miralax, drank a half of bottle of Magnesium Citrate and then finally a little relief but not much. The things I'm eating are like cream of wheat, oatmeal, yogurt, mashed potatoes, soup. I talked to my surgeons nurse this morning and she said maybe its because I haven't gone to the bathroom. I just can't seem to get my liquids in because I'm so full feeling. Help, anyone.
  25. I would focus on liquids before foods, that's a pretty quick progression to mushies. I know I had no appetite the first few days because of the swelling, etc. I also was on full liquids, which allowed for puddings, yogurt, Jello and found that I felt extremely nauseous when I ate some of those foods. Do you know if you received a fill at time of surgery? This could also be a problem if you have a fill
