4 Week Liquid Diet - Need Encouragement!
Sunshine&Lemons posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Howdy, I’m scheduled for surgery on 1/30/19 and am on day 9 of my 4 week liquid diet. The diet consists of 4 Bariatric Advantage shakes, 2 Bariatric Advantage protein bars, and either a small banana or 1 cup of skim milk per day. It’s been hard, but I’ve stuck to it and found I’m not hungry or hangry like I was the first 4-5 days. I lost 14lbs in the first week, yay! However, both yesterday and today I’ve gained a pound back. I’ve been told it could be water weight or a number of things, but it is so dang frustrating! Has anyone else encountered this? To try and help myself from going crazy I’ve decided to stop weighing myself everyday. But I’m worried if I gain anymore I’m going to mentally snap and go binge on nachos! Any advice, support, or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!! -
I know this sounds silly, but I'm going to my informational seminar tomorrow. I went to one last May, but it's been over 6 months so I have to go again... Anyway, for the last week I've been wanting to just eat and eat and eat. I'm not usually an eater like that. Do you think I'm doing this b/c I know once I go tomorrow, I'm going to start the process to lose the weight and won't be able to just eat and eat and eat again? Sound crazy?

Psychological eating?
shortgal replied to ~Bridgette~'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could be starting what they call here on the forum " The Last Supper" syndrome. We worry before surgery that we won't ever be able to enjoy our old favorite foods. That thought, combined with stress of thinking of surgery, can alter our thinking about food and many here have posted about stuffing themselves with food before being banded. We tend to think if we found the answer to our weight issues with the band, then why not have a last fling with food before the surgery. Believe me, you will enjoy food again but not in the portions you did before. You might find you enjoy food more. You will eat slower, eat things that are better for your health, look and feel better becasue of what you are eating. The band changes your thought process about food. I did not have the last supper syndrome. I was focused on changing my old habits and didn't want even more weight to lose after the surgery. I think what you've experienced is completely normal. -
Had my first 6 month appt for weight control for insurance
ssdown replied to 2boys3cats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, just play the game to get your insurance benefits. I wouldn't go below the 40 BMI either. You don't want to give your insurance any reason to disqualify you. I was self-pay, and had to gain some weight to qualify with a 40 BMI. I just got banded yesterday and am doing fine. I know it's worth it already! -
You are not alone, am right there with you. The struggle is real. I have lost five pounds only to gain it back plus a few more. As of today I am at my starting weight again but it is a struggle to stay there. Does your insurance company or Doctor require you to lose a certain amount? Hang in there.

Doing good over. Down 27lbs. Feeling great. Does everyone weight themselves everyday? I started with same day once a week. A friend who had her surgery 3 years says she told me to weight everyday. I have which I not liking it. Looking for input.

Hi all, I appreciate reading everything everyone has posted! I am currently 25 years old with 2 semesters left of nursing school. I have struggled with my weight all of my life and both my parents had gastric bypass surgery. I decided that after I graduate in April I want to have the surgery in the beginning of May. I figured I am starting a new chapter with finishing school and want to experience actually living life without being a prisoner in my own body. How long do most people request off work? I currently work as an aide lifting and moving patients as well as work on farms doing horse chores and cleaning stalls and shoveling horse turds. Trying to get an estimate on the time off, I will need.

Before your pre-op, did you put yourself on food intake control or you ate everything and anything your heart desired? Seriously since my 1st visit back in october.... I've gained the 60lbs lost the previous months (may to oct). The more I wait for my surgery the more I get fustrated and my eating disorder kicks in big time. (Binge/bulemia). It took about 5 years to get the 1st consult and now this waiting period is getting the best of me..... Anyone from anywhere in this world can help me out?

No exercise will prevent or cure saggy skin, sadly. Neither will lotions, potions, magical pills or wraps. Neither will "losing weight slowly," You can build muscle to fill in some of the saggy skin, but there's only so far that goes.

All happening really fast, maybe too fast
Frenchie1977 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went into this thinking I was gonna have to do three months medically supervised weight loss, then last week I found out that I have no supervised weight loss required and just a few appointments to take care of. Those appointments are scheduled for this week. My patient advocate says I can have surgery next month as my insurance normally approves in a week. At first I was really excited that I didn't have to wait months for surgery as I have been doing nothing for the last month but reading about it and participating on these boards. But now that October is drawing close and I have so little left to do I feel like it's all happening really fast and I'm getting nervous. Maybe all the people that have to wait months have a good thing, I don't know maybe it's just my nerves getting the best of me. Or maybe I should give myself a few extra weeks to schedule surgery, I just don't know -
Gallbladder Removal during VSG
laceemouse replied to ozbigman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of doctors who will take it out during WLS but most will not. Not everyone develops gallbladder issues after weight loss. Some people even say they are given a medication to try to stop any gallbladder issues from happening after WLS. I am grateful I had my gallbladder out years ago after losing a measly 40 pounds on Weight Watchers -
First....thank you to all of you wonderful people out there! I have been a "lurker" for quite some time and reading everything I can on this topic. You have educated me, made me laugh, and most importantly gave me the confidence that this can work for me. Second...I have officially started my journey. I met yesterday with the surgeon and the dietitian. I have my psych appt next week and the official consultation on the 20th. I am really lucky as I believe my insurance (Blue Shield of CA) does not really require anything other than the surgeon to sign off that I am ready and have tried in the past to lose weight. They do recommend 3 months waiting so we will see if my surgeon enforces that or not. I am excited...scared...nervous...you name it, but I also feel prepared and ready to start!

Vegetarian Needs Advice
AlienBandit replied to ghalib's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Though I am not a full veg like you, I try to make my diet as animal free as possible. Having said that I live in Korea making it almost impossible to cut out all animal parts etc. Losing weight with the band can however be possible for you. Look up recipes and stuff that consist of animal free products and use them after being banded. To be honest many bandsters cant eat many animal products like eggs, meat etc. Therefore some people almost each like a veg. A problem that might be for you is that sometimes bandsters cant eat many carbs like rice bread etc. However everyone is different. I try to list recipes on my blog for bandsters of all kinds ( veg, vegan, carnivore etc) on my blog. If you want to read the experience of a veg trying to survive in Korea then check it out. If you want some advice on some good recipes that will suit your needs and the band please let me know  -

Surgery and Relationships
BZButterfly79 replied to BZButterfly79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you enjoyed, she is very transparent and as you saw has no shame about her surgery, in one of her videos she says that she decided to tell everyone she had the surgery because it cut the gossip right away, people no longer had to come up with theories or speculations she flat out said: "Thanks for the compliment, I had weight loss surgery!" -
Pre surgery weight loss tips needed
honk replied to new@52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to speak with your doctors' office to know for sure what they want. The 12 pounds loss may be expected before any liquid diet. My experience was that I was told to loose 30 pounds before the surgery. In general my doctor did not require me to do a presurgery diet. My surgery ended up being postponed for other healther reasons but in the end I lost about 54 pounds presurgery. I can tell you what I did. First, if you are not on an exercise program start one. A mistake that over weight people often do is thinking that they have to start an intense program suddenly. If you can do 10 minutes the first couple days that's fine. Personally I swim; it burns lots of calories and your joints are'nt getting a lot of stress all of a sudden. You can even buy waterproof MP3 players which makes swimming way more fun. The first 7 months presurgery I ate a conservative diet and exercized daily. The month prior to surgery I went to 2 Protein drinks a day (made with milk, about 200 calories each); and one lean protein based meal. Remember the surgery is not the end game. Start now rethinking your eating and shopping habits. I think if I were to run into my doctor at the grocery store and was embarressed to have something in my cart then I should'nt buy it. -
Good evening everyone, I need to lose 12 lbs before my surgery can be done. Well, I've not been successful at losing weight in the past. I guess if I had been I wouldn't be getting the surgery!! LOL That said, I'm looking for any tips you may have for losing this 12 lbs so I will be able to proceed with the surgery. The other thing I was wondering is, I hear of people going on a liquid diet, before surgery, is that to lose the weight so the surgery can proceed, or is that because you need to clean out so to speak your insides? I guess in a nut shell what I'm curious about is, will I have to lose 12 lbs and then have a 2 week liquid diet as well?
