Will be BANDED August 25th....Anybody Else??
ruthpets replied to Parshuter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! Glad to hear all my fellow band-ees are doing well! I had the procedure 8/24 and am really doing much better than I expected. The surgery went on w/no probs., I was able to get the single incision above belly button & it seems to be healing w/o complications. Only annoying thing to happen was - sorry if TMI - that I couldn't pee too well on my own after the surgery & had to be on a catheter:crying:...But, TG, it was resolved the next day!! As for eating, my surgical team (on Long Island, NY) has patients start out the day after surgery on mushies, so before I left the hospital I had had some cream of wheat, but could only eat a few bites. The bloating from the gas has def. affected my app. So far so good for me. I have been very active (in a reasonable post-op way), am only taking Tylonol (not the percoset the dr. gave me), and sleeping well. Need to work on the water/liquid aspect during the day, it's still hard to drink all that Fluid when I feel so bloated. But, hunger-wise, I am okay. Pls. let's all of us keep up w/one another! I look forward to hearing about your progress and I am going to figure out how to do the ticker thing as well! Ruth -
:redface1:The surgery took about 2 hours, (I'm told) and it went well. My Doc likes to put his patients in delux accomodations, so I am living the sweet life while I recover. WARNING! TMI SECTION: I am very gassy, and have been encouraged to belch as much as possible.. So I've been walking around burping like a 10 year old boy does for fun VERY unladylike!.. I am still having bouts of nausea and spitting up plegm.. that's the most uncomfortable thing..., that & the dry heaves.. They are going to keep me cathed for a couple more days until my "output" increases... (looking forward to losing that thing, I can tell you) Over all I'm feeling pretty good. There was a little spot on my leak test that the doc thinks is just a curve.. but they're holding me a couple extra days to get another look. He doesn't seem worried, so I'm not. And hanging out here won't be a burden. I'm looking out a 14th floor window at the East River in Manhatten, a truly gold-plated view. So now I'm playing a waiting game.:biggrin2:

Yep, it is normal. The hard part for me was, when my body decided it had to go, it meant it was ready to go right now!! Making it to the bathroom was tricky at times for me during that period of time. I know, I know, TMI!

Oh Linda...you are my hero!! DD#4 Elyse just showed me some math stuff and had a question, and quite frankly I don't have what it takes to go back and figure it out. She is trying to take an online class (long story), but the prof is starting in the middle of the book, and who in the heck remembers how to do equations with subsets. You know.. with all those symbols and crap... She really could use some support IF you don't mind. I am hoping that she will find her niche in nursing, she has such a patient (sp) compassionate spirit. I just hope she makes it through the classes. She got an A in medical terminology but a C in Anatomy/Physiology and now has to take it over because she has to have a B. Memorizing is easy for her, but she has difficulty with abstract concepts. Anyway, I best stop talking about it. Linda, when I found that I was doing everything by myself (ex: door falls off the refrigerator, husband says "What do you expect me to do about it") is when I said...the sex isn't good enough to stick around just for that. So I said adieu. Candice keep us updated....and since we are into TMI, I must say that I came home from work and had an incredible BM. You know one of those that just kind of 'lightens' you. Well, one complaint today...in meetings all day, figure okay, I'll get stuff done tomorrow...but oh hell no..I find out that a 'select few' must participate in an all day long training on assessment testing. Yep, I get to be one of the 'select few'. I shouldn't complain, but...everyone else gets to work in the classrooms all day, and I don't. The Principal (okay, 2 complaints) came in and said that I would be taking a leading role (me a leader in anything, I don't like conflict) in our school-wide behavior program...and CAT team...and Tech committee...and valley wide science curriculum revision...and teach a new subject...and have 27 - 30 students in science labs at one time in a classroom that barely has room for 24.. (okay more than 2 complaints), Janet, I didn't realize how much time it took me to just pack my food for the day. Tomorrow I guess I'll get up a 4:30. -
Turkey Neck and Wrinkles
FailureIsntAnOption replied to ibelieve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully I wont be too shocked at my wrinkly appearance when the time comes. I have tried to mentally prepare myself for the ugly, saggy skin. I hope to be able to get a tummy tuck some lipo on my inner thighs and a body lift. We'll see, since I have no clue what all that will cost. It is amazing to me already just how much my body has changed. Sex is now amazing, it always was good but now that he can get his arms around me and I am much more limber from exercising and my fat no longer inhibits us from other positions. Sorry for TMI but I just had to share. -
So I had the unfortunate luck to have my first PB episode !! I've been following my diet guidelines to the letter and it happened while having some tomato florentine Soup with saltine crackers. I felt the doup in the middle of my chest and upon reaching the ladies room out came the slime !!! (YUCK) It wasnt painful and I was very much surprised how effortlessly it came out but needless to say I am back on liquids for today and tommorow. I called my surgeons office and the nurse said that I probably ate the soup too fast considering it happened 5 minutes into the meal.Lesson learned I need to eat SLOWER even if its just soup !!!

Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!
cramerk replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Candice, scratch, scratch...sorry, been there, occasionally called 'crotch rot', I know TMI Anyway, I haven't had any blood work done for several years. I knew it was bad, so why get it tested to find out it is still bad. Up until lately, I had so many drs. poking, proding, and flayling me open that I didn't really want to have anything to do with them for a long time. I know I will be going back soon. My doc holds my prescriptions for ransom. But I delay it as long as possible. I usually can get the pharmacy to fill things for an extra couple of months. However, I know she is going to want to take my estrogen away, and right now...over my dead night sweat body. I did reduce the level in half this year, maybe I'll go for a quarter next year. I have always used the patch, but this year I am going to have to go back to the pills, the patch costs me $60 per month and I can get the pills for under $10. I know Steph, I got so ticket off at how the ex was treating DD#4 that I couldn't even get past my anger. I need to figure out what EXACTLY she needs and then send it out there. Nag me okay. Send DD#5 off to college tomorrow. I am really bummed that I can't help her move in. It is my fir PIR day at school and the rule is..."Thou shall only be excused if dead!" So after school I will head in to see that she is settled and maybe take her out to dinner. It is only 20 miles away, but she is such a social bug it really is like 1000 miles away. We will rarely see her. Took the puppies for their walk and then mowed the yard and north 40. After DD#4 gets back home with my car I am heading into school. Need to unload thos boxes of school stuff I brought home for the summer and NEVER touched. Yeah like I ever do. Some day I will realize that and just skip bringing stuff home. Cooking stir-fry for DD#5's 'last supper', her favorite. On the exercise thing, I am walking 4 miles a day. Tomorrow I will ride my bike to school and back. Not very far, only a total of 6 mi. -
Thanks Sue. I am kind of worried now. I suffer from Ulcerative Colitis and let me tell you this pain was worse than the UC pain. I am glad it is gone now. The only thing that would make the pain go away was me bending over. I do think it was a gallbladder attack. I must say that my diet is mostly meat. I need to add veggies and fruit. I do not want to have my gallbladder removed. Maybe making some adjustments do my diet will help? Also, my BM have not been frequent. For someone who has UC I don't have BMs often. Sometimes they amount to nothing. I know this is TMI. I will call my doctor in the morning and let him know whats up. I also think I visit with my nutritionist is in order.

I just wanted to throw up one more update for any reading in the future. TMI Alert: 78 hours after stopping I started flowing heavy. That lasted 3 days then stopped. I would go a few days and then spot, go a few days and spot. Now I think I am having my "normal" period but it is heavy, full of clots, and taking forever. At the rate I am going I will still be flowing for surgery on Wed. That should be nice once I get the Heparin (blood thinner) shot. I have not had a period like this since I was like 15 or 16. I would honestly have postponed my surgery a month and finished the pill pack. Emotionally it has been a hot poker in an already hot fire. Just kinda hard to deal with. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

OK men, FYI, this is a TMI post. PJTP-Why on earth should a sport bra make you look fatter?!?!?! Ok, so I bought new sports bras yesterday (not that I am actively doing any sports). I wear them most times because a) they are easier to deal with and they control the floppy girls better for work than my other bras (I'm sure it has to do with the fact that I haven't bought new bras since weight loss). Ok, back to the story. I bought new bras yesterday. I can only assume this is how they are supposed to fit, but they squeeze the girls in to where they almost meet my belly! That is so not sexy!

Woooo...first day full liquids and everything is going through fine...
SummerAgain posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
...a little TOO fine. Going down easy, through the band no problem and RIGHT out the back door!!! Sorry, TMI! I am going strictly by the book, have no pain and I am close to home so it's not a big deal but.......HOLY CRAP. no pun intended. -
I don't know how rested my bowels were...they were still "cleansing" the morning of surgery. LOL (Sorry, maybe TMI.) I did get news that I was mistaken on my diet schedule. I haven't been off schedule, but I found out that purees is 2 weeks, instead of 1 week. Glad I got that cleared up before I tried to advance a week early. Phew! Can't wait to puree something on Tuesday! I've already picked a burger recipe from my Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery cookbook. It explains how to further prepare the food (ex. puree 1/2 burger with 2 tbs mushroom sauce). YUM!

Hey Guys, Hope today is better than yesterday. I walked around like a big gas bag burping and back-dooring gas all day, and peeing like a race horse. OK, TMI again. Sorry Yeah, that Isopure has got to go. I cannot stand the taste of it. I did not see on the Vitalady site where you can order samples of the Syntrax Nectar mix, just the big up plastic $30 jars of it. If I get it I just need to like it, ya know. GNC carries it too, but I'm sure not in all flavors, and shipping takes so long. I have other unflavored whey protein , so I guess I could mix that into different drinks. I tried Hawaiian Punch lite (or basically sugar-free) as suggested by Nina at Dr. A's, but gag me on that stuff. Too sweet. Taking pills is a real challenge too. I soaked the Nex Mups, but I also have to take a BP pill for awhile longer, and at night I take OTC Unisom to help sleep. Nothing is simple any more. On the up side, with all that water release yesterday I was down 3 pounds today. Of course that's just fluid retention not fat. One day at a time I guess.

Dated: August 13, 2009: Hi all, Well they let me go yesterday instead of waiting until today. That's the good news. I feel "ok" but mostly gassy from moment to moment and a bit of diarrha (green to boot), sorry I know TMI, but had to share. The surgery itself went smooth. I'm sore, I'm bloated, my stomach looks like I'm ready to deliver a bowling ball and someone tried to punch it out of me. Feel a bit weak from surgery, I'm sure. My tongue is coated with some white yucky stuff (what's that about?) I bought Isopure beforehand so I could start right in with the protein. Tastes like flavored dishwater to me. Hope that gets better cuz I bought like 10 of those stupid things. Mexicali was hotter than hell (113 degrees yesterday the day I left.) Dr. Aceves was in and out a bunch. He drinks Coke - all day long - I asked him about that, but he said he doesn't have a sleeve so he can do that! Dr. Campos is getting skinny. Sergio was a love. I asked for Lidocaine before IV insertion; they poo-poo'd me and stuck it in anyway and it hurt like a SOB, and I let that doctor know I was NOT happy about that, GD it!! They gave me a Morphine spinal - I was rolled into a ball and that's all I remember as I was out after that. Woke up OK in recovery. Had a drain which they left in for 3 days and looked like a 3 foot snake when they pulled it out. Fun stuff. My husband was amazed they could get that much in there! I feel weak, dragging around, somewhat envious that DH can eat and I cannot eat anything. Enough trouble trying to drink. Water and all liquids are a little tough going down. Tea is best cuz it's warm and feels good. I tried to eat that chicken broth in the hospital, but the smell and taste of it gagged me. Everyone is different. So this is day 4 for me as well, and hope it gets better fast cause I feel like a major pune. Oh, BTW, I did not have to remove any nail polish or nails. Yay for that!

3 weeks of carnation
JENNIFER7375 replied to marmar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do the carnation shakes as well. It sucked!! Did some very unpleasant things to my stomach , TMI but I'm trying to be truthful. That being said, as sucky as the pre op diet it was, I now know it was well worth it. It's gonna suck but you can do it!!! -

I felt that gas pain for a while and I am just now getting over the big part of it (and its been 9 days since my surgery!)!! The only thing I can suggest to you is first of all believe me even if it seems like it will never go away it WILL, everyday gets better (I know at first that was hard for me to believe but it is really true), second the only way to really release the air and feel better is to fart (sorry if TMI but really that is one of the only ways to start releasing and feeling better, and third is to use some sort of anti-gas med (I'm not a doctor but use what your doctor recommends to you) I used Maalox (sp?) ,gas X strips and easy to swallow(very important to be the easy to swallow tabs) extra strength Tylenol tabs [for pain] and those really helped me but please ask your doctor what is ok for you. I hope this helps you and I hope you start feeling better!! Keep me updated on your status. -
What type of anaesthesia is used for Lapband procedure?
slpcat replied to kittkat2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warning TMI -I don't know what kind of inhaled anesthesia I had but I know I had one. A few days after surgery I coughed of this glob of phleem that tasted really "mediciney." It was DISGUSTING! -
who else had their incissions glued?
Sarah Youngs Riley replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine glued as well and they took way longer to heal. They seemed to start oozing (sorry tmi) after a week or so. It wasn't until the third week or more that they were finally almost healed. The scars are also bigger than most I have seen with staples. Much thicker. I am almost 6 months post op and they are still fat and purple. They are lightening up a bit. -
do you FEEL like you have to pee
BobBayCityMI replied to roseyandmusic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Count me as surprised that my peeing urges have changed too. I am surprised that I do not have that "oh, oh" feeling in the morning, but some of my pees are real long. Plus mine go from the bright yellow to the dull yellow. I drink my full 64 ounces, or more, each day. TMI, I know. But I am also glad to see I am not alone in this change. -

Nicole - that happens to me all the time that's why I hate eating breakfast! Liz said it's because you are jump starting your metabolism. Chris - good to know but you'll have to remind me of that when my time comes for fills - LOL Ok, so my boss just said to me that he's just sick of himself and wants to join a mens group - I told him that's TMI for me and that is something he needs to discuss with his wife. Crazy man!
