    My NSV shocker

What a great series of NSV's. And I love Vegas - so that makes it even better. Good for you. Happy Band Journeys to all.

    My NSV shocker

    Super NSV!
  3. This past week we went on vacation to vegas. The last time I flew (13 mos ago) I could barely get that seat belt done up. I had to use every ounce of strength to get it buckled (my arms were shaking I was pulling so tight). Also, I thought I had the "bad seat" all the time because my seat would go back when it was supose to stay in the upright position. That turned out to be a little button that my leg would depress in (I had no idea that button was even hiding there). Anway back to the NSV. I fit! Whoohooo, I FIT GOOD! I was able to buckle up and have a good 6 inches of extra belt (never had extra before). AND I finally saw that button and no, my fat does not push it in anymore. I too can keep my seat in the upright position!!!! We literally walked miles and I was able to keep it at a good clip and didnt get tired out and could speak while walking! All good things! I get so concerned with the scale that every now and again it is just so good to see there are changes happening that the scale does not show me. Life is good! :scared:
  4. I guess this counts. I guess about anything counts if you notice it, right? So here it is… From someone formerly of the Clean Plate Club, I just realized after tossing some of my lunch away today, that I haven’t finished a meal in…weeks maybe? I know that sounds like a big, “duh!” But considering I have had this thing since October and have only GAINED 2 pounds, I have to hold onto something. I think it will get better soon. This last fill seemed to help, and I just might be starting to get the hang of this. Guess I am a very slow learner, (and definitely a slow loser). But at least something seems to be changing. WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

    my DH ...

LOL!!!!!!! Time to get out the duck tape! That is a wonderful NSV!
  6. I'm not new/new, but sometimes I feel pretty stupid when I don't understand the acronyms used in this web site. It took me a week of searching to figure out that NSV meant "non scale victory"? Is NUT just short for nutritionist? Is there a list of commonly used acronyms that I can find somewhere? This is a great site.......maybe there's a list somewhere that I cant find?

    Nsv's Anyone?

oooh, I love NSVs!!! I have a few too! 3. walked into a restaurant (that I go to all the time!!!) where a cute waiter says, I know you look familiar, but I dont know where I know I know you from!, then as I leave, he tells me to come back and see him again soon. And I am married!! Ha!! But it still feels good. 2. got rid of all my size 16 pants, and fitting comfortably into size 14. I have 1 pair of size 12, but I still think they are a bit snug. 1. I can take the stairs at work and not be huffing and puffing when I get to the third floor!! Keep up the great work everyone!

    Nsv's Anyone?

Love to hear these NSVs!. I think it's easy to get focused on that number on the scale which can lead to discouragement. I am struggleing to get back on track after some regain, going for 3 good days in a row. Hopefully some NSV's to come soon!

    Nsv!!

I'm 6 weeks post surgery, down 29 pounds and had my first fill of 3 cc in my 10 cc band yesterday. Had to go shopping for a dress for my stepson's wedding and I walked out of the store with a dress 2 sizes smaller!! I first took my "old" size in the dressing room, then asked hubby for a size smaller, and finally another size smaller. I couldn't believe all the dresses I was trying on were 2 sizes smaller! I also bought a new pair of jeans, a top, and undies (all 1 size smaller). Talk about feeling on top of the world! My doc says not to buy too many clothes because they won't fit for long. From his mouth, to God's ear.

Congratulations on your weight loss. This is a great nsv.
  13. We have a store in Jersey caled Trader' Joe's - it's a quirky store with fresh unique organic type items. Wegman's is another place that has yummy choices. I feel renewed engery buying some interesting foods. I ordered a Bento Lunchbox as seen on : http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ It wasn't cheap, but I thought it could make packing a lunch fun!! Some things I bought at Trader Joes:' A tub of Greek yogurt/dressing the kind they put on Gyros. (it had low calories) I picked up a lonnng skinny cucumber that I plan on chopping up and mixing with some organic tomatoes for a cucumber/tomato salad. I bought a fish stew-had it for dinner-yummy. I bought an Eggplant and Garlic spread that I can using for dipping or mixing with something. I bought mozz balls in olive oil and spices (I know I can ony have 1 or 2 of these do to calories, but they will go good in my Bento box! So hopefully this will make eating a little more interesting by trying new things. If you are stuck in a rut try going to one of these stores and experiment with different foods. Go to eggface's website to get some ideas. I had to really watch the calories because a lot of the things in the store are healthy, but not necessarily ow in calories. On a separate note , I had my very first NSV today!! Even though the scale hasn't budged in 2 weeks, I feel thinner and I notice it when I wear tops. Today a secretary at my job looked stunned and said "You are losing weight!!" I said "Yep, I lost a little" of course she asked what I was doing and I said watching what I am eating. So that felt good!!

    Nsv's Today

Took my blood pressure tonight for the first time since surgery on 4/9 . . . And it was 112/68. Halle-freakin'-lujah! My BP has been high for over four months and I was put on pills through my surgery date, my PCP didn't think I'd need them after surgery. She was right! Also, today I tried on a pair of shorts that I haven't been able to wear in over three years, and they fit with room to spare. 9 lbs down since surgery date, but I really should have started taking measurements because I've dropped a size. Only unexpected event was that TOM showed up 10 days early (which NEVER happens) and I've been in a lot of pain. Had to take some of my post op liquid pain meds to make it through. Oh well, small price to pay. Today was a good day. Sent from my iPad using VST
  15. I'm down 62 lbs since surgery, 93 lbs total! I weigh 204 today : ) I've gone from a 24/26 jeans to a 15/16! My shirts from 3xl to L or XL. I am feeling great and having new NSV's daily. 5lbs to onderland, 7 lbs to century club! Hoping for both by Christmas. Yay me!!

    Non Scale Victories?

I am not part of the April group, but my biggest NSV was at the gym not long ago. A guy came up to me and asked me how I got my legs so toned. I was so shocked. I just pointed to the machines that I use all the time. They have really helped my thighs which are not flabby at all. I wish I could say the same thing about my arms.

    Things I'm looking forward to

YAAAAAAS YAAAAAAAS! This and this!! At 3 mos post op-- I do not have to shop in the plus dept. I can but I can fit most Large and even some mediums. I am technically still plus size but I am now able to finally take my rightful position in the stores I was meant to shop in!!! And that makes me feel confident! Next year-- my 20th reunion will be on a cruise ship to the Bahamas. I will be there with bells on. Looking as good as I did when I was in my 20's. I don't really talk to any of my old classmates but I'll be there with my hubby. If it turns out to be lame, he and I will still have a great time on the other side of the cruise ship no matter what. Yaaaaaas girl hang in there-- it's coming!!! I'm married but I do miss getting hit on like I used to a woman needs to be able to turn heads to feel sexy sometimes. HOWEVER-- when it does start to happen, which it is a little bit-- I only have eyes and loyalty for my hubby. He stood by me and made me feel beautiful through it all. The other guys can kiss my ass. I'm going to hold my head up high flash my ring and keep it moving. Going to Cedar Point in 2 weeks for HALLOWEEKENDS. The last time I was there with my family-- I was turned away from 3 rides because the belts wouldn't fit and I was sooooo embarrassed. I doubt that will happen this time! LOOKING SO FORWARD TO IT! All great goals and NSV's. I just related to these ones so well I had to shout!!!

    Nsv's Anyone?

I had a great NSV this week. My PCP lowered my blood pressure meds. Then today i went for a fill, and the nurse there took my blood pressure and said, it is probably time to see your PCP about lowering your blood pressure meds. I told her I already did that this week, and she was amazed that my blood pressure was perfect.
  20. Hate shorts. No nix that. I love my new size 14 shorts. My legs have lost weight too and the fat hanging around my knees is looking so much better. And the don't cause muffin top. I'm actually fitting all of me in a 14. Here I was getting used to my 16s.

    Nsv-- Wedding Ring Resized

Is almost time for me to get mine resized, too. I think I'm going to do like someone else said and put it up until I reach goal so I only have to do it once. Congrats on your NSV!!

Reality - What am I in for?

Experiences seem to vary widely as far as surgery and recovery. I felt only discomfort (no pain) after surgery. The discomfort was the feeling of a foreign object in my chest that felt very heavy. This feeling went away in about 10 days. I also experienced a strange rash on my hands and arms that went away by itself. I believe this was an immune response to the band. You may experience discomfort from the gas used during surgery. Most people feel pain in the shoulder area. I did not. I felt the surgery was a piece of cake compared to other surgeries I have had. Your surgeon will put you on a post-op diet that you should follow to the "T". You will get really hungry between days 5-10 but you must not deviate from the post-op instructions no matter how hungry you are. I recommend you focus on drinking Water during this time to keep the hunger at bay. The period between recovery and your first fill are called "bandster hell". It is called this because you will have no restriction and will have to use a great deal of will power to get through it. It does take some time to reach good restriction but once you do, you will not feel deprived of food and weight loss will be relatively easy. I highly recommend you begin walking immediately following surgery and increase the amount of time you walk each day as you are feeling better. My experience has been that you will lose rapidly the first few months if you walk a lot. As soon as your surgeon deems you ready, start a routine/daily exercise regimen. I joined Curves and go 5 times/week and ride my bicycle several times per week for an hour or more. Be sure you get measured at your chest, stomach, hips, arms, legs so you can see non-scale victories (NSV's) for when you can't see the loss on the scale. It is normal to hit plateaus during your weight loss. I find this to be very discouraging but just keep in mind the loss will start up again. This is why measuring is important. I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have if you would like to message me. Best of luck to you!:cursing: Donna

    Goals

I would caution everyone to measuring your success by the number on the scale, and setting your goals based on numbers. I am 1.5 out from surgery and have been on the boards for the entire time. I have read so many posts about people getting really discouraged because they did not hit that number on the scale. While the numbers are a big part of this journey - try to set goals that are non scale victories. For example my first NSV was eliminating a certain medication I am on. I have reduced it, but have not gotten rid of it. I sat down and made a list of the things I wanted to achieve after surgery, and I am much happier than when I stared at the scale willing it to go down another 2 pounds. Congrats on the reaching the goals you have set for the scales!!
