  1. First of all let me say thank you. This is my second time around I had gastric sleeve in 2012 which was very successful I lost over 200 pounds and have kept most of it off. Because of GERD and severe reflux issues, I had an hitial hernia repair and revision from gastric sleeve to bypass. I am little over one week out and I am struggling. I have to be readmitted to the hospital for blockage in my small intestine because of swelling. I just don’t remember the first surgery being this hard. I am in phase two which is puréed foods and I am regretting my decision please help. Does it get easier I feel so restricte!!
  2. No problem with small pills. Waited a few weeks for larger pills. No problem if I want to take them now. I was told never again to take NSAIDS but no problem with any food or spices. So tumeric would be no problem at all. I have never heard of no turmeric... The only reason they told me no NSAIDs after surgery is because it may cause ulcers.
  3. I was able to do desk work and chores (except the heavy lifting, of course, as per my surgeon) on day 3, but I did feel tired for a couple of weeks possibly due to low calorie intake, borderline dehydration and general recovering from surgery. Some recover fast, some recover slower but whatever your case is, don't rush back to work if you can help it. Relax and heal faster. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery!
  4. If you're not familiar with the Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collective, you should definitely check it out. They have an extensive database of bariatric surgery patients, and there's a calculator that shows average outcomes based on the data. https://mbsc.arbormetrix.com/Registry/public/calculator/uiCalculator/7?menuId=1013 My info: 1. Basics: GENDER, AGE, HEIGHT - female, 39 (at time of surgery), 5'3" 2. Total Weight lost in the 6 months BEFORE surgery (if any) - 64 pounds 3. Weight on DAY OF SURGERY. - 277 pounds 4. Weight at 1 MONTH POST surgery - 256 pounds 5. Weight at 3 MONTHs POST surgery - 225 pounds 6. Weight at 6 MONTHs POST surgery - 181 pounds 7. Weight at 12 MONTHs POST surgery - 144 pounds

  6. Greeting everyone! I want to know how long after the roux-en-y gastric bypass was it before you were able to return back to work? I am so excited with mix with mix feeling. More excited than anything. My surgery is July 3 rd, 2023.
  7. 1. F 71 5'2' 2. 0 3. 203 4. 181 5. 166 6. 153 Currently at 10 months out 142 Have lost 61 pounds
  8. I'm a bypass patient. I was told I could take anything the size of a pencil eraser or smaller as soon as I got home from the hospital (which covered all but two of my pills - I had to wait 2-3 weeks before trying those - and it did "work" - I was able to swallow everything perfectly after the 2-3 week wait on the two larger ones)

    Recent VSG peeps...

I think the grouchiness came from soreness yesterday (stomach muscles and an unrelated nerve pain in my leg). It comes and goes. Like, today I feel fine so kind of regret posting that. I am 33 and pretty healthy so I know I am possibly having an easier time than if someone twice my age got it. Everyone's experience is going to be different but my advice would be for anyone to take two weeks minimum to be on the safe side

    Question about (very) small regain

I had a "happy range" which i tried to stay within. if i went below or under this range for an extended period of time, i would take measures to get back into range. Now how long i determined was an "extended period of time" would depend on my circumstances. Am i on vacation? is it the holidays? Am i sick? Have i been getting enough sleep?, etc... But usually it was a week or two of being outside my happy range would i start actually doing anything. I will also add that i increased my happy range by 5 lbs about 2 years ago because i decided the effort to stay within that range was more trouble than its worth (i used to strive to stay within 115-120 lbs, but nowadays i try to stay within 115-125, which i have been able to do perfectly with zero extra effort...and its soooo much more pleasant this way) p.s. i'm 4.5+ years out.
  13. yay, a couple responses! I figure i should l add mine too: 1. Basics: GENDER, AGE (at time of surgery) , HEIGHT F, 46, 5'2" 2. Total Weight lost in the 6 months BEFORE surgery (if any) 11.8 lbs 3. Weight on DAY OF SURGERY. 223.2 lbs 4. Weight at 1 MONTH POST surgery 201.0 lbs 5. Weight at 3 MONTHs POST surgery 172.0 lbs 6. Weight at 6 MONTHs POST surgery 138.1 lbs 7. Weight at 12 MONTHs POST surgery 113.0 lbs

    July 2023 buddies

Thanks for the tip. It is something I am trying and failing at and it is one of the things that worries me as I am so used to gulping down water. I am kinda hoping that once I have my surgery next week the necessity to do all these things liek sip, eat small and slow, chew till liquid will just happen like magic! I did by 1oz cups from Amazon to use as my guide once I am home after the surgery. I hope you are doing well after your surgery Anyway I am off for my last meal out with a friend for a long time seeing as tomorrow I have to prep to go to hospital on Monday afternoon.
  15. Female 47 at time of surgery 5ft 5.5 inches. Lost 5 lbs in 2 week pre surgery diet. 232.2 on surgery day. 206.2 after 1 month, 190.1 at 3 months. 171.5 at 6 months and I'm not to a year yet but this month was 9 months and I was 159.2. That was actually fun to look up those stats and see my progress like that. Take care!

  17. Ok, so there are lots of posts out there about concerns about speed of weight loss, amount of weight loss, how much is too much weight lost, how much is too little, etc. etc. The same responses inevitably come back, about how we are all different, we lose at our own rates, genetics, starting weight, height, gender, age are all factors, don't compare, etc. etc. But the reality is that no one really cares about the reasons for the differences, we all seem to just wanna see the NUMBERS. And then compare them to our own. Le Sigh. Sooooo....being a one who personally LOVES numbers and data and spreadsheets, I thought I would start a little project. I want to collect stats from any willing members and i will compile the data into a lovely spreadsheet and graph(s) organized by certain variables. Doesn't that sound like fun???? 😂😂😂😂 So, for FUNSIES, send me the following info (if you are willing!), and i after i collect a good-enough sized sample (say at least 100?), I'll do my thing. It may take a week, a month a year, depending on how many people participate. 1. Basics: GENDER, AGE, HEIGHT 2. Total Weight lost in the 6 months BEFORE surgery (if any) 3. Weight on DAY OF SURGERY. 4. Weight at 1 MONTH POST surgery 5. Weight at 3 MONTHs POST surgery 6. Weight at 6 MONTHs POST surgery 7. Weight at 12 MONTHs POST surgery * the final report will have names/usernames removed in an effort to a bit of privacy if you don't want to reply to the thread with the info, feel free to DM me ** of course this will not be in any way some definitive scientific report! - ms.sss

    8 months post op Questions

The reason I answered the way I did was because of the large number of posts from people who are frustrated, disappointed, angry or think they are failing because they compare themselves with others, set unrealistic goals or timelines, think they are losing slowly, don’t reach their goal, etc. I didn’t want you to fall into the comparison trap too. I had a lower starting weight so had less to lose than you do. Am shorter & likely older. I also had a sleeve. I lost my goal of 31kg (68lbs) at 6 months. (Lost another 11odd kilos over the next 11 months bringing my total to a loss of about 92lbs.) At 8 months I’d lost 37kg (81lbs). So comparing my stats with @ms.sss & @summerseeker you can see how different loss can be over the same time period - a range of more than 2 stone which can be two or three dress sizes as an example. I may have lost more by month 8 if I wasn’t consciously increasing my calories to try to stop my loss. I may have lost less if I had more or longer stalls or lost nothing if my body decided that my goal weight was my new set point & best weight. PS: My total loss made me an outlier. The average weight loss is about 65% of the weight you’re to lose to put you in a healthier range for both bypass & sleeve. I lost 135%. I had a couple of very short stalls, less than a week in length, so my rate of loss was fairly steady, gradually slowing, with just little hiccups along the way.
  19. You're absolutely right! The first week I lost a lb andwas pretty disappointed. Since then I've stayed off the scale and don't plan to get back on until my follow up appointment. I'm going to do a monthly weigh in going forward and trust the process. I do think I'm losing inches though, my scrub top feels looser so that's a nice nsv!
  20. It really depends on each individual and how good the surgeon is. After surgery I had a slight sore throat, and I slept through day 2 for the most part. I asked for nausea meds before surgery cause I'm prone to nausea so since they were prepared, and because if that I had no nausea. I was pretty much normal on day 3 but very tired. Didn't need any pain meds because I really had no pain except for incision pain and that was more annoying.

    Curious About Post-Op Days

The first two weeks after my bypass I was a little sore. I do have a higher pain tolerance so all I needed was over the counter Tylenol. I think I was having a hard time not being able to lift and hold my 3-year-old. That lasted for about 6 weeks. The tenderness seemed to go away between the 6-8 weeks mark. By the 2nd week I was trying not to overdo it. By 3-4 weeks I got this burst of energy. I found that it was very helpful to wear the binder when I was up and moving around. I still from time to time use it and I am 4 months post op. The first big poo is a nightmare that no one at the drs office tells you about. I literally birthed a horse pellet 3 times in the first 8 weeks. I found taking a dose of miralax daily and 2 Colace a day has helped with getting hard stools. This was told to me ok to do by the nurses from Weight Management as well as the Surgeon. But walk as much as you can as soon as the nursing staff let you get up. It helps a bunch.
  22. Hello All, I had my bypass on Valentines Day this year. So, I'm roughly 4 months post op. Prior to my surgery I was taking Wellbutrin 100mg 3 times a day. I haven't had any weight gaining issues with this medication. It actually had been helping me not want to overeat a bunch. Recently my Dr decided to add Zoloft 50mg daily in addition to my Wellbutrin. I haven't started taking it yet because I am having mixed feelings about it. I know I need something to help with the irritability I've had an increase within addition to what I am taking now. I do trust my Dr and him saying that he thinks that I am a good candidate for the medication, and he hasn't seen any weight issues ect, I am though however terrified if I start taking this medicine, I will start gaining weight back. So, my question is those who have been on this medication, did you have any side effects and or weight gain with this medication? And if so, how much weight did it cause you to gain back?

Long Distance Hiking/vigorous exercise after surgery

Hi Colin, I don't hike 20 miles per day back to back, but I imagine you will be able to at some point. For the first year or so I'm not sure I was eating/absorbing enough calories to sustain that type of heavy exercise. However, once I was able to eat a little more I never had issues doing whatever exercise I wanted. Of course, as with everything talk to your doctor For me, I started training for Kili about a year after my surgery, with hikes 5-8 miles just on weekends. At the 2 year mark I was hiking 3-4 times per week, up to about 12 miles. And Kili was about 2 1/2 years after surgery and I had no issues at all. I was not active or fit pre-surgery, so my baseline was very low. ~Lori
  24. Ok guys. I have been doing pretty good. I am into daynumer13. I have until July 3, but I am noticing my breathing is changing I am just aware of. Too close to the ER today (long post)

My thoughts are you did way too much to soon after surgery. I think you're supposed to wait 6-8 weeks before you do anything strenuous or super taxing. 4 weeks out was probably too much for your body.
