Has Dr. Alvarez had any VSG Leaks?
Bob_350lbs replied to ChroniclesofaFATGIRL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does <3 mean? We will all help keep you sane, but this is going to be one crazy wild ride to the thin side. I am so excited for all of us! We are gonna be one of those skinny bitches wearing all kinds of cute clothes in size small. For me, it's never to late to be the person you have always wanted to be..never too late for a happy childhood either. By the way, I know this is TMI...BUT.....after 6 weeks of either constipation or diarrhea...I had my first regular BM!!! Yay! I am normal again. After I started adding veggies to everything....mother nature finally kicked in..gee, I hope I weigh less tomorrow.. -

awesome, I use a small saucer plate, and a lot of the times I have left over and I take 20-30 mins to eat and small bites (: the 5 bean salad...never liked it lol. I'm positive that exercising will help with the weight pause, andd yes haha I know it really does, it needs to kick into gear better tho. I'd feel like I'd have to go, but when I get to the bathroom I don't anymore, then I go to sit down for a few mins then I gotta again but then I can't grr I took a stool softened too haha bad stool softener! TMI sorry lol

I had mine and was not able to wear a tampon, had to wear a pad. Also had to wear the special fish net panties too (just in case they need access for a catheter I was told). I did not notice any increase in flow though it was a little tough to change myself the first time while in the hospital. TMI I know  -
Liquid Preop and calories
shanda7182 replied to shanda7182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, i have only been making sure to get my 80-90 g of Protein in as well. I also watch the sodium content with broths because it can add up fast. One broth is usually around at least 600 mg of sodium which is alot if you are hypertensive or prone to retaining fluids (if you consume more than 2 or so per day). Anyway, I would love to keep in touch with you. I will email you at your email address and give you my information. This is Day 2 of my liquid diet- I guess every surgeon is different, I was told to avoid Ensure, who knows, I guess its surgeons preference, I dont really know the reason. I am actually to my surprise VERY energetic! LOL I dont know what....my stomach does not rumble much but I think the key is, I have been drinking those isopure 40g, 0 gram drinks and it has really been making me feel somewhat satisifed. My meal yesterday went something like this: 1st: isopure drink- 160 calories 2nd: broth: 10 calories 3rd: 4 sf jello- 40 calories 4th: isopure drink- 160 calories 5th: broth: 10 calories 6th: 4 sf popsiclaes: 40 calories lots and lots of Water and crystal lite in between times. SO I guess that is not too bad and actually today, my thighs feel slimmer. LOL, maybe its because I have been urinating all day (TMI) I know. Thanks for responding, we will keep in touch!:sad0: -
Anyone had surgery during TOM. Wouldn't you know it, my surgery date falls smack dab in the middle of my period. Hopefully, it will not be too heavy at the time. Geeze! What did you wear? Were you able to keep a tampon in ? Or a pad on? As if I wasn't freaked out by the idea of going under enough, now this! Have a good day all, got to get ready for work now! Jodi:blush:

I'm 6 days post-op and so far so good. I had to spend 1 night in the hospital, it wasn't too bad. I'm sore at my port site, but the gas hasn't been too bad. I'm on Roxicet (TMI...that also means I'm on stool softeners, YUCK!). I've been trying to get out and about but I get pretty tired. This whole process has been pretty surreal, but I'm glad to be almost 1/2 way through stage 2!

I have my in-laws in from Ireland as well as my mom up from Atlanta taking care of me so I haven't been on here in a bit. I'm 6 days post-op and so far so good. I was supposed to go back to work tomorrow, but I'm going to take the whole week. I'm scared to tell my manager, but he's been saying all along that he'd be supportive...we'll see! I'm sore at my port site, but the gas hasn't been too bad. I'm on Roxicet (TMI...that also means I'm on stool softeners, YUCK!). I've been trying to get out and about but I get pretty tired. How's everyone else doing?

Okay, I was reading a magazine yesterday - since it was "me time" and I found an interesting article. It focussed on hitting 350 minutes a week of exercise, you can do it all in one day - ahhh, not me - or you can devide it up into 6 days a week, or 5 or even 3 - but the key is you have to do 350 minutes a week. I opted for 6 days a week, which averages to be about 60 min a day. I know, 6 days a week is a lot, but I have found that I have to give it my all in the beginning or I just quit. Some people have to start off slow, but for me, if I start off slow, I never get going. Anyhow, I decided to set some goals this week and push myself to do them. I hit the gym this morning, I did a circuit training, where I did 15 min on the elliptical - got my heart rate up - then jumped on the weights (worked my upper body -biceps, triceps, shoulders, back - and thru in the abs). After doing a set of weights, I jumped back on the elliptical for another 15 min, it was at this time my stomach started turning. I pushed anyhow, and did another set of weights. Jumped back on the elliptical machine (I was planning on doing another 10 to 15 min), but I realized my stomache was not settling down. I started dry heaving, which I HATE to do. I don't know about anyone else, but since I've been banding, I cannot throw up. I can PB, or spit up something thats in my pouch, but as far as something that has made it to my stomache, It is not coming back up, no matter what! Anyhow, I had drank some water, and I think that was sitting in my pouch still, and I knew it was about to come up. So I had to cut the elliptical machine short, so I grabbed my towel and headed to the door. I almost made it, but hear it comes, I covered my mouth and out came the water, I knew several saw me. I left in a hurry, so embarrasing. Sorry if this is TMI. Anyhow, I did get in 60 min, despite it all. I'm not sure what made me feel so sick, but I feel better now. I'm about to head to the kitchen and make me a colorful plate of food. Turkey breast, salad greens and some diced apple salad. yum. I'm going to take my measurements later and see where I am too so I can also keep track of them. Goals for the week: 1. Eat Clean 2. Exercise 350 min 3. Get some sleep So far 350 min minus todays 60 min = 290 min to go! Wt - 165.8 - grrrrrrr

Sharon - OMG how terrible for your DD - leaving a job and then getting layed off.. Hugs and Prayers that she will find a new job soon.. I am good - it's when I have to deal with bro's estate that gets me in a down mood (he died 10/13/08 at the age of 50 my youngest bro - now I am the only one left of my parent's marriage - my other bro die 5/99 at age of 43) I am the olders - Jimmy was 1 yr 4 days younger than me then there was Michael who was 3 yrs younger than me... That and how terrible and cheap my bosses are.. Karma !!! That's all I can say... Laura I hear you on the fill or not to fill issues - is it physical or mental - I wrote this great post about that same thing and now I can't find it.. At times I think I could use a tweak then I think oh no you don't it's all in your head - I know that I will eat when I am not physically hungry - Yesterday had a lean cusine for lunch - omw I was full all afternoon into the evening - you know what I was pissed I was full cuz I wanted to eat... How stupid is that - but again it shows me that even this far out - I still have issues with food.. Boredom!!! That's why I have to stay very busy.. Pple think that bypass is the answer or really any wls - and it's not - it's all about the work that you do. Bypass pple lose cuz they don't absorb their calories - so even if they eat more than they should they will still lose - but after a while the body re-adapts and their intestine start absorbing again - this is why after 2 yrs they start gaining again it's all about the lifetime lifestyle change and until pple realize that they aren't going to be successfull... This is why I say I did 75% of the work to lose the weight and the band helped with the other 25% - It's all about eating healthy and exercising. P Charlene – IMHO so many pple think WLS is the quick fix – and this is why pple like Oprah are against it – That’s why I wish I could go on her show and talk about the work that has to be done – it’s only a tool… Eva Yep when we forget – our band will remind us… Yep quite weekend – I cleaned out the garage (my fur babies use it as their bathroom tmi but it’s better than my house – don’t know why they don’t go out the other doggie door to the yard) and then I cleaned out the fridge I was going to give my gf – It’s the garage fridge and hasn’t been cleaned in 5 yrs.. Well got it all done – came in the house around 11:30 (started at 9) and gf called her mom got her a fridge at a yard sales so thank but don’t need it after all.. So now I have a clean fridge :0) Cheri – Your dinner sounded good – and yes it’s all about the planning – Congrats on singing today – I wish I could – sound good in my head – but outside I can’t carry a note :0 Meredith – I love the water !!! My x and I had a boat and would go to the river in the summer time – loved it.. But I know to wear sunblock – I’m fair and have burned too many times in my life – Where in Cali does your sister live ?? The planning for our meeting is Apples & Laura – I have already told my office to pencil me out that Friday before president weekend.. Sharon – Ya I know how ppl can get – I’m that way with my treadmill :0) Good Morning Gang… No plans today – need to clean – already have 2 loads of wash done – now just need to get off the computer and do something… Cbl

No More weight coming off...and bummed
Bob_350lbs replied to AJW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too, stalled at week 4, and the scale hasn't budged in 10 days! holy moly...if it doesn't move tomorrow, what to do? I am doing everyting they told me to do..today I did 60 min on the treadmill. And, the milk of magnesia really works. I must say, I have more energy than I have had in a long, long, time. How can someone consuming only 700 cals per day, mainly protein, stall? That's okay, it has to come off eventually. I am figuring that we are just losing fat, not muscle, and at least we won't have sunk in butt cheecks..is that tmi? -
i'm 5 weeks post op as of today (: anybody else 5 weeks or 6 weeks post op? how are you all doing? i'll start off with me, eh, could be A WHOLE LOT BETTER! im schedualed for a fill on the 16th but i dont think im ready for it yet, not with my stupid nausea, that doesnt seem to go away and im taking my nausea pills, that alone makes me frustrated, other than feeling nauseated, i feel fine. hope i dont have that for the rest of my life, but for some people they have nausea for a few months right? my dr said try eating a pickle, he had a patient that went home one night ate a pickle and felt great! is it cause of the vineger? and the nausea is the only thing thats making me upset, its making me lose hope in getting back to myself and feeling 100% wonderfull ahh! my incissions are healing fine, but have hives around them and itchy dr said he didnt know what was causing it and he didnt know what was causing the nausea. i gotta go #2 (lol sorry tmi) and i cant! maybe thats another reason why my stomach hurts. i'll take a softener when i get home from getting my lip pierced. i had soggy cereal for breakfast yesturday its go lean kashi or something like that, i tried a string cheese yesturday with turkey breast deli wrapped around it had like 3 bites and i couldn't eat it anymore, i dont think i was hungry. i had a chicken leg for dinner with my fav BBQ sauce and i fed most of it to the dog and cats, it tasted good though. today i didnt have anything for breakfast, i cant decide on anything, but im gonna have string cheese, i wasnt too hungry for breakfast, anyways i feel fine other than having nausea, i hope it goes away, how are all you guys doing? :smile2:

Dehydration Issues.
DownInSocal replied to PhotoSteve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will chime in on the TMI. I am 8 days out and have only had 2 movements, if you could call them that. I am still passing gas and my husband can hear sounds so I am not worried. I don't feel bloated. I feel for you with liquids. It is hard. I wish I would have done this during the winter when it was a constant 70 out. -
You also have to remember that you aren't eating as much so there isn't as much to push things through (in my surgeon's words) and so it is not unnormal at all to go several days without a BM. Plus at the liquid stage, liquids in, liquids out. This may be TMI; however, I am almost 3 months out and I do not have a BM every day - sometimes it is every 3 days. I am do not have the constipated feeling and so, after speaking with my surgeon, I don't worry about it. As long as I am getting in enough fluids, eventually there will be enough whatever to make a BM.

so, i was banded w/crohns, had horrible stomach issues - would go days w/out going to the bathroom (sorry tmi i know) & i just avoided salads for fear that the roughage would cause more damage - NO. last wk i had my checkup w/my band surgeon, and while we were talking it dawned on me that i go to the bathroom EVERY day now - no flare ups. he said that was a HUGE sign that my digestive system was working on all cylinders and a mark of proper health. i lived on carbs beforehand & while i did/do love fruit & veggies - i didn't include them in my EVERY day diet. i do now, my body actually craves it. had grilled shrimp on romaine for lunch yesterday - kept me satisfied for 5hrs......was so good, i'm having the same today.

Surgery Week of August 24th?
DownInSocal replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! Wow a week. I can't believe it. I went out on Saturday and Sunday. Both times were quick trips to the store with my husband. I was dizzy and sweating by the time we got home. I think it is normal. I feel good so it was odd that just a little bit of walk around the store could do me in. Before surgery I was walking 5 miles. I go around the block now several times a day. It is hard because it has been hot here as I am sure it is there too. I have got on the scale. Couldn't help it. 12 lbs as of Monday. I am sure some of it is Water weight as I am consuming so much less sodium but it is great to see movement. It seems all my loss is in my limbs though! My arms have small bat wings and my legs are much smaller. Now I just look like a weeble wobble perched on small flabby limbs. Great just what I wanted :glare: Oh and my "girls" seem to be hanging lower. I asked hubby if they looked more saggy and he was evasive so that means yes. I have not bothered measuring because I still feel like my abdomen is swollen. I am not one to be real worried about measurements anyway. To be honest I am struggling with liquids. I have a headache today and my urine output is not great. I am going to start measuring today (TMI). I took a clean one of those hat things for the toilet home from the hospital just in case. I am glad I did. I was told not to worry about Protein the first week but try and consume as much as possible. I am getting about 40 grams a day. It takes me an hour to drink a shake so I could add another and was thinking of doing that today. With shakes counted I am only getting about 25 oz of Fluid a day. I am going to try and do better today. It is so hard because I still am dealing esophagus spasms. I seem to be able to drink more later in the day so I need to just get on it and sip, sip, sip more. It seems thirst went away with hunger. -
Sex three weeks out
Fluffy RN replied to Devylynne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Damn all you rabbits!! 4, 10 days post op?? I was still miserable at that point. However, I am 10 weeks post op now and my port still is uncomfortable during sex. I've tried all positions and it doesn't help. It's not horrible, but definitely a distracting ache. So I have to focus on NOT showing the hubby it is bothering me. I'm sure it will get better. I try not to contract abdomen as much. Although I've only lost a little under 30lbs....it is noticeable in bed. Don't mean to give TMI...but I'm loving it:blush: -
Hi April! I think it's different for everybody . . .except protein, 60 grams minimum. When I was getting 120 grams Robin said it was too much, excess protein is stored as fat by the body just like excess carbs or fat. As to the rest, I know Liz and Robin don't want us to count grams, but I do it anyways and here is what I have determined is optimal for me (does not mean that I DO it, just that I feel good when I stay in the limits!) Fats: About 28-30 gr/day, max of 10 grams "bad" (saturated) fats Fiber: 25 to 30 grams, this is very important for me! Without adequate fiber I can't get things done, TMI ya know Carbs: At least 20 but under 60 "net" carbs - so total carbs minus fiber. I get almost all of my carbs from fruits, vegies tofu products and legumes (lentils a favorite). It sounds like lo-carb and I guess it is, but you can eat a LOT of fruit to hit 45-90 total carbs (before fiber is taken out) Sodium: Supposed to be under 2200 per my PCP, and I rarely achieve that goal. I am usually around 2800, on a bad day I can hit 4000-5000 or more
-
it's weird . It comes and goes for me. I have had small glasses of milk and done okay. Yesterday I went to a wedding and I could not figure out what I at or drank but I sure had gas and diarrhea (sorry tmi) when I got home.

* My doc said go with how I feel... You'll know if you feel ok.. I forget how long after we tried...but had to stop! LOL It def hurt and my incision felt like it was gonna tear open, LOL A little TMI...but we are def all good now! LOL
-
OMG Tina, I think you SO need to be a foster mom! Put some prayer into this one - sounds like you are already feeling some peace about it - the right thing will happen :-) I'm not talking about a 2-lb. gain here, I am talking about 6+ LBS!!! Way too much too be just water - I think. Although I did just pee for the 6th time this morning, TMI and LOL at the same time - so a lot of it is water and a lot of it is fatty liver from my carb-fest that started in oregon over a week ago, but some of it is also the fact that I am still doing what worked for me 80 lbs. ago, and my body is much much smaller and I need to do different stuff (like eat less, and change my exercise, and add in weights . . . ) now to keep moving forward. One thing that I CAN say is that since I have gained this, I do feel my band now! It will not let me gain back past a certain amount, and I am SO grateful for that! And also my clothes are not any tighter, and people keep commenting that I am still losing . . . so I am trying not to get disouraged and just pour in the water (already on 50+ this morning, hence the TMI above!) and walk a lot more! I did 11 miles yesterday and only 800 calories and still somehow managed to gain - probably because I have 4 servings of super-salty soup, calories count said I was over 5000 mg of sodium yesterday and if any of that had iodone in it, that is what the gain is from - I am allergic and swell like heck. But anyways!!!
