    Food Before and After Photos

    I do three days too. Four if you count the day it’s made & that’s for everything all meats, soups, vegetables, eggs. As long as it’s kept refrigerated you’ll be fine. Only thing I eat in two days is salad - gets too watery & loses it’s texture. I usually get 3 or 4 meals out of everything I cook. Saves me cooking everyday & I don’t have family to eat the leftovers. And as you know I regularly freeze one or two serves so I’m not eating the same meal 3 or 4 times in a row. Can always do the sniff test & a tentative taste test to see if it’s still okay. We’re big into sniffing in our family - I even sniff milk I’ve just opened. My aunt does the same.

    Question about (very) small regain

    Just noticed I said I gained 3 lbs it was about 3-5lbs (depending on the maths with my fluctuation 😉). I sometimes can’t eat a full meal either which is why I also snack a few times a day - to get those calories in. I’m pretty controlling as to what, how much & when I eat my snacks & each has a purpose: adding extra protein & nutrients. My favourite snack at the moment is home made labneh on multigrain crackers with tomato, fresh basil & a sprinkle of zaatar - yum. I call them my midday snack but I eat them at 1pm with a large mug of green tea (it’s the only time I can eat & drink at the same time 🤷🏻‍♀️). I also have things like nuts, fruit, protein bar, jerky, string cheese, occasionally roasted fava beans or chickpeas (easy if travelling). Slider foods are the devil’s work. Far too moreish & easy to eat too much. Rice crackers were my weakness. I still keep them in my house (with hummus) but for friends or family which is only when I’ll have some now. I have thrown out a couple of pots on unopened or barely touched expired hummus though. Sometimes being stubborn & pig heatedly determined can have its benefits. 😁

    My doctors told me no Marijuana for a week before surgery & a week after because I prefer THC instead of pharmaceuticals, but every doctor is different, you should probably ask yours

    July 2023 buddies

    I was miserable. I'm on day 6 and it's better. Mine is less than 1,000 calories a day and no more than 50 grams carbs, 2 meal replacement shakes. They sent home some recipes and frozen dinner recommendations, too. Day 1 morning I was nauseous to the point I almost went home from work. And bathroom breaks for loose stools were numerous. I felt like I'd done a colonoscopy prep! Day 2 no nausea, still numerous bathroom trips. Day 3, numerous bathroom breaks in the morning, but by afternoon these had stopped. Day 4, a few extra bathroom breaks but none in the afternoon. Day 5 we were going to go on an easy hike but the drive is about 2 hours and, of course, no bathrooms on the trail. So we opted to stay home and I'm glad. A few extra bathroom trips. Today, Day 6, still a couple extra trips, but I'm sure tired of it. For food, leafy green salads with ground turkey; hard boiled eggs; chicken on greens; that type of thing. Green beans, not my favorite but they'll do. You've got this! I read someone say the 1st 3 days are the hardest and I'll agree with that. But it does get easier.

    We have to spend 2 nights at a hotel due to the 3 hour drive (assuming ferries are running!). I'm bringing meds, clean clothes for day of and after, my phone of course, and probably my Kindle. I'm sure I'll be sleepy so I figure that's plenty. They ask I stay an extra night due to the drive in case of any issues, and then they'll do imaging the next day to ensure the staples are doing their job.

    I think it depends on what it is. There are some things that I’ll prep and keep for a week (lettuces for salad) and others that I pray don’t make leftovers (I’m looking at you fried foods!) For what it’s worth, the USDA says cooked pork is good for 3-4 days in the fridge. 🤷‍♀️

    Curious About Post-Op Days

    Oh and definitely be prepared to be constipated! The first month was not fun in that department. You may go 2 weeks without a bowel movement, it's quite common. I'm more regular now but previously I was resorting to stool softeners and even a home enema and suppositories. Suppositories worked best when I was really backed up.

    Regrets

    Big hugs to all of you struggling. It is hard definitely challenging inI the early days. I sailed through the first week and then liquid fatigue set in at about Day 10 - I couldn't stand the thought of broth or jelly anymore, nausea returned, I was sleeping a lot, I was crying and definitely feeling sorry for myself. As I entered the third week and I could eat things began to improve. Things are pretty good now as I approach 8 weeks out. I still worry about how I'll go long term, if I'll lose what I want to lose etc. I don't overstressed daily goals, I'm doing my best and that's all I can do at this point. Hang in there and be kind to yourself and know that it'll all be worth it in the end.

    I usually do leftovers for about 3 days depending on what it is. I usually grow tired of it by day 2 or hubby eats it before I get to it. Though, he's pretty good at leaving me some.
  13. It's really contingent on how well you do and what kind of job you have. I had a desk job (I'm now retired). I took three weeks off but could have gone back after two. I'm glad I had the third week because I was still pretty tired and it was nice having the time to get used to the eating progression, but yes, I COULD have gone back after two weeks.

  16. I had something similar after my bypass from having the iv in for 3 days. It was a very painful solid bump right under the skin where the iv was. It was about an inch long so not huge. I asked my dr and he said it was clot and that it would go away on its own but to use warm compresses on it to help it feel better and heal faster. It took several weeks for it to go away but it did eventually fade. I don't know if that's what you have though so I can't tell you if you should worry about your spot or not. I hope it gets better for you soon!

    Had my revision from sleeve to bypass on the 28th...

    So I noticed over the last 2-3 days that the arm that I had the IV in is REALLY hurting, swollen a bit just above where I had the IV, and is firm to the touch. I had to get the IV in the crook of my arm because there were no other good veins. Anyway, this morning has been the worst so far, and it's gone from annoying to concerning. Anyone ever had this? Not sure if it's worth going to the ER for or if it can wait until tomorrow since today is Sunday.

    Returning to work post surgery

    I had my surgery when I was 62, disabled and very unfit. Had I still been a working girl then I would have needed 3-6 months. I had a rough time
  21. I work a desk job, from home. I took 3 weeks off and I would have been happier taking more. I had an issue with my diaphragm - for several months - that made it difficult for me to sit straight up and down. So, sitting in my office chair (even with it reclined) was painful. The diaphragm issue is still there - 8-months post op - but it's much better. I can sit in my office chair all day and not have an issue.

    Question about (very) small regain

    I get it. I too had about a 3lb gain after being stable for a year or so. Yes a small gain but just like you it was concerning to me. My fluctuation had been 48.5-49.5kg but suddenly I was 51kg. I liked being under 50kg & I too worried it was the beginning of the end. I am a believer in your body settling into it’s correct set point & what it needs to function effectively which may be at a higher weight. Building muscle will result in some gain. Becoming more complacent & less vigilant in your choices, making adjustments to your way of eating to better suit your lifestyle, medication changes, or your original way of eating was too limiting all can contribute to weight gain. For me, I discovered a contributing factor was my HRT was no longer working (absorption issue after my gall removal. I also had increased my protein intake due to the same absorption problem. Changed to a patch, made a slight adjustment to the protein sources I’d added (legumes be gone - well reduced) & slowly I lost not all but most of that gain. I now fluctuate between 49.5-49.9kg & have been stable for about 6 months. Funny thing is I do eat more than I did at the lower weight (about 1300 then & about 1500 now) which, according to those BMR calculators, is about right for me. If you want to nip the regain in the bud, maybe start with tracking your food intake for a couple of weeks to see what may be contributing. 100 extra calories can result in a 10lb weight gain over a year. You mentioned you’ve been snacking more & that may be contributing. May be drop one or two of those snacks, reduce your snack portions or look for a lower calorie alternative. But only change those things that are sustainable & don’t affect how you want to enjoy your life. You have to decide if the changes you may need to make to your eating are worth weighing a little less or whether being a couple of pounds heavier is an acceptable increase. And what an acceptable fluctuation may be for you. Unfortunately, I think we will always have to be vigilant. We have too much history with eating & weight gain not to be. All the best.
