How bad is it that I cheated on liquid pre op diet?
Frustr8 replied to Brassapple's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not yet on the sacred pre-diet but I currently, replace my lunch with a protein shake, because, most of the time I'm either busy or disinclined to cook them Before I would eat a bolonga on white bread, tuna salad on whole wheat or a Greek yogurt with fruit. Now to your question, I think it will be okay. Many diets, let you have a lean, protein with or without a vegetable for a meal. Just get on back to the liquids like Doctor wanted. As long as it's a few days before it should clear out of your body and,it will be our little secret!👉😁👈 -
TMI topic.. pre-op protein diet and extreme diarrhea!
Laughing Bird replied to Laughing Bird's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried Bariatric Advantage which was the worst! I used Powder with Almond milk, water, or nonfat lactose free milk. I’m on Premier Protein premades and powder using the same variety of liquid for mixing the powder. Which is less awful but, still not so fun. I’m allowed now to eat one plain serving of Greek yogurt everyday to help and I still have an issue. I’m basically living on Imodium and praying for June 4 to get here quick so I can end this madness. -
How do you, personally, define a carb?
jess9395 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Are you asking me? I have always eaten 4-6 or so small meals per day because my restriction is right. Examples of a meal during loss phase— Protein shake No sugar added Greek yogurt Roll ups—deli meat w/ultra thin sliced cheese or a laughing cow wedge or a pickle spear or smear of avocado Grilled chicken dipped in mustard (I have six types in my fridge always!) Homemade turkey chili Half a lean burger patty with thin cheese and mustard/mayo Scrambled egg with salsa maybe with cheese, green onions, mushrooms, onions Jerky Cottage or ricotta cheese sometimes with pasta sauce Tuna or chicken salad with mayo, celery or green onions Salad with chicken or other meat and goat cheese and a vinaigrette -
Surgery in May?
Coppola bus 103 replied to dede1118's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes totally. I was looking at my stage 2 list. Im starting to eat flavors of yogurt. So it helps. I have pushed it to see what I can tolerate. Went good and bad. But it's definitely a struggle Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hard time getting to solid diet
Orchids&Dragons replied to beverlyjh51's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 3 months out and have just started tolerating solids. I still get almost all my nutrition from yogurt and protein water. Try the protein water, it is easier than shakes, imho. Do check with your doctor. Mine wasn't worried at 6 weeks, but he did send me for additional testing at 11 weeks. But as @Pearldrop says, we're all different and some of us heal more slowly. And I agree with @shelly420, this is a great opportunity for weight loss if your protein intake improves. Hope all goes well. -
How do you, personally, define a carb?
jess9395 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
During my losing phase I limited all types of carbs and the majority of the carbs in my diet came from dairy which is one source that hasn’t been discussed... I didn’t do any of the types listed for the most part but did do no sugar added Greek yogurt, cheese, milk, etc which are all a source of naturally occurring carbs from the lactose. Now that I am at goal and in maintenance I eat a serving of fruit most days, vegetables (complex carbs) and some whole grains like quinoa and oatmeal. I avoid bread, crackers, cereal, potatoes and wheat pasta for the most part still. I Can’t eat rice. I do have sweets on occasion in moderation. I had a cookie tonight! -
You can make cloud bread with Greek Yogurt instead:) https://www.beachbodyondemand.com/blog/cloud-bread-recipe

Hi, like many people here, I did test positive. I did the round of antibiotics and the surgeon I was working with also had me scooped. The check required me to check in for a procedure, I was put under twilight sedation and a scope was inserted to check for ulcers. It all came back clear and I, on my own, started eating yogurt with probiotics afterwards. Above all, don't worry!

Has anyone tried puréed earlier than two weeks?
RickM replied to melrami1981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Certainly - I had pureed stuff along with other soft things like yogurt and scrambled eggs in the hospital (pureed lettuce put me off the idea of pureeing anything) and there are quite a few programs that are similar in their progressions. The basic rule, however, is to follow your doc's or program instructions as we can't know what reasoning they have for their protocols. -
Healthy freezer treats kids love:) And me too! (recipe)
Creekimp13 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
1 1/2 cups plain or vanilla, fat-free yogurt (greek gets you more protein) 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen berries (blueberries, raspberries and sliced strawberries) 1 large banana, sliced Dixie paper cups Aluminum foil and wooden popcicle sticks (if you don't have these, i've used plastic spoons for the handle) Blend your yogurt, banana and berries in your blender, food processor or nutri-bullet Taste it and add Splenda or your sweetener of choice if you think it needs it pour into cups, cover with foil, poke a stick in there and freeze. They won't last long on a hot day:) -
How do you, personally, define a carb?

I eat a metric fuque ton of carbs. Love them. They're a huge part of the Mayo Clinic Diet...which has served me very well. That said...there are two kinds of carbs. High glycemic simple carbs....processed white flour and sugar...I'm extremely careful with. Sugars, in general...I'm careful with. In addition to being bad to give you insulin spikes and rebound hunger....the kinds of foods they're in...cakes, cookies, baked goods, fried sweets, snack foods, processed foods....are typically full of tans fats..partially hydrogenated oils that raise your bad cholesterol, lower your good cholesterol and clog your blood pipes. Heart disease is the #1 killer for both men and women....so I'd really like to avoid this. Low glycemic carbs are a huge part of my daily diet. Whole grains, oats, brown rice, beans, lentils, chickpeas. Whole raw fruits. Low fat dairy. In addition to having a nice slow glycemic burn that doesn't spike your insulin like processed carbs.....low glycemic carbs are typically rich in fiber and/or PROTEIN:) Both are awesome for weight loss! Fiber is great for poo...and it's what the best gut microbiota eat. Getting some of your protein from plant sources helps to reduce your exposure to the nasty fats that come with animal protein. So, to me, it's win-win. The diets of the healthiest people on Earth who have the most longevity, least cancer and heart disease.....Mediterranean Diet and Japanese Diet are low in simple sugar and high in low glycemic carbs, vegetables, whole grains, fruit, nuts, seeds and fish. High in plant protein, low in animal protein. So to answer your question more specifically.... Carbs are carbs...but some are better for a healthy diet than others. Some I eat regularly, and some I eat very seldom in very small amounts. Fries...I make my own out of potatoes in the oven with olive oil and rosemary, and leave the skins on:) pizza....I make my own with thin whole wheat crust, tons of veggies, fresh mozzarella, and very little meat. ice cream....nope, but I LOVE Yasso frozen greek yogurt bars Cookies, etc......almost never. Would be a special occasion food and would limit it to 75 calories worth. Couple bites of hubby's dessert on special occasion, microscopic piece of birthday cake, etc. bread? No white bread, but I do eat sourdough, pumpernickel, and the gross, "healthy" kind with all the seeds and grains...I LOVE it:) Toast it up and put some avocado on there with red pepper flakes, sunflower seeds and lowfat swiss. Yum! Pasta?......No white pasta, but I do LOVE lentil/chickpea pasta, I prefer it. Potatoes? Yep. White and Sweet. Love me some potatoes! Love my diet potato salad, too. Beans? Yes. All of them. As often as possible. Fiber-licious! oatmeal, rice, quinoa, corn... all whole grains, so which ones do you avoid?,,,,, I eat sugar free oatmeal regularly, brown rice in moderation regularly, not into quinoa, corn I eat in once in a while in moderation as an ingredient. And I like popcorn sometimes, air popped. I'm a big fan of Chia seed pudding. I like flax. And all the nuts:) Love me some lentils in my veggie soup. -
SEE this terrifies me! I feel like my sleeve is broken. I have NO issue consuming liquids or food. I mean I eat very small amounts, but liquids slide right through me. Doc says it’s fine and that I’m doing great, but I’m still super nervous. I make a shake for lunch that has 1/3 cup fat free Greek yogurt, 1 cup fat free fair life milk, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder and drink that for an hour and it’s 40g protein. Now I don’t feel hunger at all, but I don’t consume any more protein until my 4pm 4oz coffee(decaf) with 1/2 a premier protein shake. Between those two small things, I’m hitting 60g protein. Am I super abnormal? 😰

Preop terrible gas pain, protein shakes??
Frustr8 replied to Cindyjo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like the new one Muscle Milk has now, probably not an option for you. Blueberry with a Greek Yogurt base, might be a tad more calories than Premier Protein. Shame about your whey sensativity, the new Peaches and Cream really rocks.😝👍 -
I take the bariatric advantage capsule ones (opened and sprinkled on yogurt for the first 2 weeks---yuk) and such pain...it is the closest I have came to throwing up in this whole process. I now take one at a time, wait 30 minutes and drink at least 8 ounces of water and then take the second one. Much better. P.S. Looks like we are ticker twins

Does anyone regret getting the sleeve?
janet ruth replied to Kadidy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had no issues with the liquid/purée diets because I love yogurt, applesauce and soups. I transitioned to “hard” food easily by cutting my meats into small bits before sitting down to eat. I’ve lost 50 lbs in 6 months & have 20 to go. I bought small bowls and divided plates in the Walmart baby department so I don’t over serve myself. Eating ice chips & sipping water or iced tea all day has helped with hydration. -
I had my post op today too and everything looked good. I got contact dermatitis from the dermabond that is on its way to healing. Still super itchy but it’s not as red as the past couple of days. I’m beginning to think my practice is so incredibly different from the others. We don’t have a purée stage. First 10 days is liquid+ meaning liquids/shakes/yogurt/pudding etc. after 10 days it goes to soft (fork mashable foods) which includes cooked veggies, meats (ex chicken salad and tuna salad, or any moist meat). I’m now cleared to slowly add in these softer foods before cleared for regular food in 3 weeks. I ate tuna tonight with 0 issues :) Fluid avg: 100oz Protein avg: 85g How is everyone else fairing?

Let’s talk about sliming
Orchids&Dragons replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine lasts for as long as 2 hours at a time! One of the reasons that I'm still mostly living on yogurt. And that's with walking and trying to breathe. But I agree - DO NOT ADD LIQUID! -
Shoot overdid it and angered my sleeve.
sillykitty replied to MedicVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's just that your sleeve wasn't ready for it yet. My program has full liquids right out of the hospital, which includes things like sf pudding and yogurt. So it's not like you did anything crazy, like eat fried chicken, your sleeve just wasn't ready for it yet. -
Do you get tired of foods very quickly?
TakingABreak replied to jrsone's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Well I do a lot of meal prep and try and eat leftovers often. - I grill chicken (usually thighs or legs) on the grill every Sunday and take them to work throughout the week. I take the skin off to lighten the calorie/fat content. I also make these Wonton "Cupcakes" w/ different recipes. I like the chicken cordon bleu and the lasagna ones. They are so simple to take to work the next day. 30 secs in the microwave, and done. -I make this Greek "No Pasta" Salad with chic peas, cherry tomatoes, edamame, red onion, olives, cucumber, feta cheese, and Greek dressing (homemade). I eat about a half cup a day as my afternoon snack. -Cottage cheese -Hard boiled eggs -Tuna packets, deli style - Brussel sprouts (I eat 3 big ones for my mid morning snack) - Fat free cheese slices -Greek yogurt -Veggie sticks with greek yogurt & ranch seasoning -Hummus with wheat crackers or veggie sticks -Roasted Chic Peas. I make all kinds of flavors. My favorite are the garlic and the honey chipotle. -
If I'm hungry yes, I'll try to go for protein rich snacks like nuts or yogurt or low calorie foods like plain popcorn or popsicles.

2 weeks post op from RNY. What are you eating
YeahOkay31 replied to starbuckslas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had two weeks of liquid. Now I have 4 weeks of 2 liquid meals and one 3 oz. soft protein. I have tried grilled chicken breast & rotisserie chicken, but even though the meat was super moist and I chewed it into paste it still felt like rocks going down. Eggs are not agreeing with me, but fish like cod and tilapia are going down okay. I can get about 2 oz down. Mostly though I stick to Greek yogurt. It is the easiest on my digestive system. -
I started regular foods a little over a week ago. I'll find something I really like, for example chicken, cheese, lean lunch meat and turkey burgers. I'll eat a few, they settle well and then I'm absolutely sick of them. I hate that it happens because I feel like I'm wasting food but my enjoyment will only last a few meals. The only thing I can eat on a consistent basis is beef jerky, Greek Yogurt and some soups so far.
-
I have snacks, usually at night. I can't hit my protein goals without them (just not able to eat enough at meals). My snacks tend to be protein oriented. Some examples: Deli turkey and pepperoni wraps, light string cheese, light cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sometimes I repeat a meal, beef jerky, almonds. If I do carbs I try to limit it to one thing and eat it after I eat something dense like deli turkey so it doesn't "slide" through. For me carb snacks might be: PBJ (only if I ran a few miles because its high calorie), 1 oz of chips / pretzels / crackers, cheese and crackers, hummus and carrots, oatmeal (only on work out days).

Stuck in a hotel for 5 nights, what would you bring for meals?
Bryn910 replied to YandereAngel's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Egg salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, tuna cheese, deli meat, peoperoni protein drinks, nuts if you’re allowed, protein bars yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus/bean dip, peanut butter Maybe make pre-made chicken/cheese wraps to store in fridge Fruit If you’re allowed also check with the hotel, some have microwaves that you can rent for about $10/day and they’ll place in your room. Or you could buy a mini microwave, use it, & return it once you’re done. Seems extreme but if you really need to, do it
