  1. Hi, I was reading some of your posts and was interested in your story. As you were my BMI is on the low side. It is @ 31% but I have been on diet pills for the past year, so it could be higher. I only have about 30lbs to lose at this time and am worried that this is to drastic for that much weight. But I have struggled with the up and down my entire life. Do you think that the sleeve is worth the time and money for 30lbs? Very worried about losing too much and looking horrible and like I am on drugs!! Any comments or encouragement is greatly appreciated :)

  2. OK just remember you will get through it. At first I was like what did I do to myself??? Now I'm so happy. No hunger and losing weight :)...You will be in my prayers hugs :) keep me posted!

  3. Sorry I'm so late responding - still trying to figure out the whole private message thing...lol! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm 10 days out and except for exhaustion I can't hardly tell I've had surgery! Out of my 6 incisions all but one have already faded to pale pink lines - but I've always been a fast healer. The one joy is that I no longer have to sip - I can just drink normally that's how fast the swelling went down. Hopefully the weight goes down as well....LOL. Thanks for the good wishes!

  4. Thanks for letting me know about your experience. I am glad to hear you are losing weight and happy with your sleeve. I will keep you posted on when my surgery date is. I think my consultant is named Sandy...or she is the lady I always bother when I have questions...LOL.

  5. I never questioned my decision on either of my surgeries. I knew in my heart that the risks of being fat outweighed the risks of either of the surgeries. I knew that a co-morbidity would eventually kill me if I didn't get and keep the weight off. I did a lot of research on gastrectomies. Not just gastrectomies for weight loss, but for other conditions.

  6. Girl,

Doing great! Down about 40 lbs so far......its so exciting! Still trying to eat slow (thats the hard part)! How are you miss, I dont see you much anymore on the boards....hey, but when you loose weight....its time to see the world and do things! lol

  7. Linda,

Thanks so much for taking time to respond. IT IS SO nice to have someone to talk to who has "been there." The rest of my immediate family doesn't have weight issues - hubbie, kids are all in great shape. My mom, etc... all have weight issues. I am excited about Dr. NIcholson's clinic on Wed. I will let you know how it goes. I am a teacher and hope to do the procedure on 12/28 so I can enjoy the holidays, and have a week to recoup before returning to work. What do you think? Is that enough time to rest before work? Also, I am a bit nervous about a really restrictive diet at the holidays, but I didn't want to wait until summer. I am not morbidly obese, I weigh 195, but I am only 5'2..., I would love to weigh 140ish. I have 55 lbs or so, but I would love to be able to enjoy the summer and wear shorts or maybe even a bathing suit and not be mortified!

  8. Hope you are having a wonderful birthday! (stay clear of cake though!) How is the weight loss coming? Let's hear from you!

    Cheers,

    Donna

  9. Hi this is TinyTummy reaching out to everyone. My head is still wrapping around all the information about the vertical sleeve surgery that I expect to be having early in the new year. I'm constantly thinking about the all the improvements in my health and comfort. Right now I live quite a balancing act between being active and not too active because I have a chronic pain disorder (Fibromyalgia). I was diagnosed with it in Sept 01. My physician has had me walking my dogs every a.m. and again in the evening, regardless of the weather. I am proud to be still able to work full time in an office, but couldn't do it without a 1/2 hour nap I take at noon to let my body relax and stretch out. I've been overweight since about 2 years old and dieted off 20 lbs. at 12 years old. That was the beginning of the yo yo body weight for the next 40 years or so till I couldn't be bothered any more. It hurt too much to alway gain it back and more.

  10. Susan..thanks alot I'm undecided what to do...how much longer before we take regular pills or do we have to crush everything for awhile. Are you doing ok? I haven't been on much lately...my life has been consumed caring for elderly aunt 250 mi from me and when I'm there she has no internet so I have no contact with outside world! Pam and I are doing well..I've lost 17lbs..not that much as far as I'm concerned and I don't eat much?? Guess b/cause my BMI was lower weight loss is slower.

  11. hi. im new and want to make a post and sort out my site so i can start getting involved in the forums and log my progress. how do i get a weight ticker ????

  12. Hey Dana,

It's your girl here in Omaha. Ok, so I received a private message from someone who told there story about leaks..it sounded more serious than I lead on. But, I have put a call into my Dr and I just talked to my mom (not a medical professional, but I value her opinion), and she just reminded me that surgery is also based on your health. I'm 30 and weight about 285, I have had no health issues other than being heavy and some infertility issues. Also, each experience may be based on each individual's skin too. It depends on how your skin heals and keeping your insisions clean. I don't want to be neieve, but I don't want to be paranoid. I had a friend tell me that she saw a report on CNN or something like that..that said people get paid to post blogs..it's there job to promote who they work for. Even if they are true, they may be based on a handful of cases. Anyway, I just don't like to be bullied.

    What do you think?

  13. AAAHHH LISA! It IS you! I read one of your posts and was hoping it was you. I want so much for lots of nice people to post here. I love that you are a nurse as well! All the better for all our members.

Congrats on the weight loss and the drastic improvement in your health!

  14. Weight down to 213 now. If only I could get rid of this stubborn little jelly roll around my midsection, I'd be pretty happy with my body shape (for the first time in... well... EVER!)

  15. Hi I am new to this site. But I saw you got your sleeve by Dr. Almanza. I see from the post you made it home okay. How is your weight loss coming? I am planning on going to get mine done by him as well. How did you like him?

  16. Deedee:

I need advice, I m already under my target weight , i m super happy , but lately i ve been having hunger all day long. I kept eating chocolate, candies, etc.

I have not gained weight but im afraid. I also think my stomach is bigger i now can eat more than a month ago.

How are u doing?? I m afraid to become fat again.

  17. Hi Jane! Good to hear from you, sorry for not responding sooner, I haven't logged in in awhile but I read the board many times per day. Congrats on your weight loss tooooo!! I actually just logged in because I dropped another 1.1 pounds - the loss has really slowed but I've become quite bony, size 6 and normal BMI. My body may just be stopping at this point, who knows. I do know I've never weighed 150 - 160 yes - but never 150 so we'll see! I'm so thrilled nevertheless. Most of my physical activity comes from intense, 30 mile+ bike rides every other day, not so much during my work day. I ride with my husband and we really push each other, it's a real blessing, the whole situation.

No, the oil did NOT affect us, thank God!!!

    Take good care!!

    Carol

  18. Not sure why they can't seem to get the paperwork done sooner. I used a local psychologist and apparently they are slowwwww! I have been off work and hoping to get this done before I returned to work. Not the case, as I started a new job today. (I am brain dead tonight!) LOL Your weight loss shows you are doing great! Has it been really difficult? Any words of wisdom for me????

  19. Absolutely amazing! I hope I do half as well as you are doing! I am really looking forward to this. . .

I'm trying to get some weight off before my consult on the 17th. . .ugh. . .nothing seems to want to budge. . .

  20. Like you I had absolutely no gas and very little pain. I am so glad things are going so well and you will be amazed at how quickly you will feel better and how quick the weight will come off.

  21. Thank you so much! I seem to have broken out of my stall now, and lost another 4 pounds, so that feels good. Just can't wait to get to a healthy weight! how in the world did you post a pic of yourself on here? I can't seem to do it. I did "profile pic" and it is not loading up... hummm

  22. Same here, after my hysteratomy and thyroidectomy (don't know how to spell..lol) I started gaining weight like crazy and was not small to begin with, and every doctor said the same thing you do not need WLS surgery diet and excercise....lol It took me 5 yrs to find a doc. that understood this was my only option to get healthy. I don't want to be a super model, I just want my needs to stop hurting and to throw away my cpap machine....wearing a size 10 would be nice...lol It sounds like you have been working just as hard as I have to start this journey and it will happen for the both of us I can not wait to see your post "I have a date"

  23. Wow, you're doing really well! 89 pounds lost! You're lapping me!

Things are going okay. I keep having stalls because I'm not being SUPER rigorous about sticking to my diet and exercise plan. Still, the weight is coming off, so that's good, right?

    Thanks for the kind words!

  24. You're doing great. Don't give up, and get frustrated. Stalls are normal, just breathe and let the weight come off. Exercise, get your fluids, and stay within your dietary guidelines and you will succeed.

  25. Great job on the weight loss. Girl... keep it up.

Yes, I am getting excited as each day grows closer.

I saw my surgeon again yesterday and everything is a GO.

Keep me posted as well baby girl. Ciao.
