"It's easy for people who are naturally skinny like you are'...!
lellow posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's what a saleslady at a clothes shop told me today!!!! ROFLMAO!!!! I tried on a top and when I went to pay for it, I saw that it was stained. It was the only one left in that size but I really needed a top for work so just grabbed a similar one off a near shelf as it was the same size as the one I tried on. The (IMO, only very slightly plump) saleslady asked if I wanted to check if it fit and, because I had my hubby and baby waiting for me outside, I said 'no thanks, I'm pretty sure that's my size', to which she then said 'well, it's easy for people who are naturally skinny like you are to know what fits you. Everything looks good on thin people'!!! I didn't know whether to laugh hysterically or hug her. In the end, I told her about the lapband and that there is no way on god's green earth that I could be described at 'naturally skinny'. She then remarked that she thought weight loss surgery patients all ended up looking like prunes with all the loose skin, but I looked marvellous (said in wide-eyed surprise, mind you!) So as far as NSVs go, I think that was my best one yet! -

NSV - Pre-surgery I would put on an outfit and look in the mirror and first question was "does this make me look fat". Now, 7 months later I can just about put on anything and not look fat. All this hard work has been worth every second,

No extension will definitely be a MAJOR NSV for me. I used to love flying, but in the past few years I've become so uncomfortable about the whole experience that I get very anxious about it. I am looking forward to people not looking at me with fear and dread, hoping I am not assigned to the seat next to them! LOL

Last year my school ordered wanted to order shirts for all the teachers to wear on special days. Last year when I put on the shirt I ordered it was too tight and I never wore it to work. I almost put it in the trash. I'm glad I didn't b/c now the shirt fits perfectly. I've worn it twice to school. NSV - Non scale Victory

what a weekend. i don't know WHAT was wrong with me. oh wait. it was probably that i had Snacks in the house to begin with! I could not...or i should say, WOULDN'T stop eating. a handful (or 2) of mini oreos, ice cream (and NOT my normal frozen yogurt that is lower in cals and fat), honey teddy grams, almonds (i'm usually ok with a few at a time a couple times a day....try HANDFULS, ALL DAY). thank goodness they are gone. all of it. i'm sure it still wasn't even CLOSE to what i used to do. I would have finished an unopen bag of any or all of this back before the band. the bags were almost empty, but still, i DON'T snack like that anymore. i know some of it was boredom. Hubby was working evening shift, leaving me home with the kids from 3:30 until i went to bed. i usually have much more control than that though. the good thing is that i'm back to 141 on the scale (but could KICK myself because i probably would be in the 130's had i stayed on track all of the past week!) i'm going to go back on liquids again, like i did to break my cycle of snacking a couple of weeks ago. Protein shakes and Water...for a couple of days. it seems to kick my butt back on plan. NSV- Saturday while working out at curves, a lady asked me if i've been going there a lot. i told her i've been a member for 2 months. She said, no, i mean, you have been coming in working out a lot....days in a week. I said, oh...yes. i TRY to come everyday they are open, if not to workout, but that that is MY TIME to be ALONE (NO KIDS!). she said, it shows....that she sees the difference and that i look great! wow....a stranger noticed! (and what did i do? came home and SNACKED! ARGH! i need to work on using those things as MOTIVATION and not a license to CHEAT!) my magic bullet is calling....time for my shake. -
omg .....i feel really embarrassed asking this but what does NSV stand for ???LOL ! cuz i can absolutely relate to everyones posts !!!!

Feels amazing, right @@Dknal2? Could you post a before pic, too? I saw a flash of my clavicles today - I wasn't sure if I even had them! Forgive my ignorance, but what the neck does NSV stand for? -
What is your latest NSV (non scale victories) ? I will start.... I have two that are huge to me. I am 4 weeks out today 1) I can wear my wedding rings again! Yeahhhh and my husband is really happy about it. 2) I noticed I was crossing my legs in church this morning without any effort. I can not remember the last time I could do that. :)

Salutations, My Sleeve Family, Let's kick our day off with a Spiritual Vitamin. Today it's R: REJOICE Phillipians 4:4 says for us to, " Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice! " YAYYY!!! We are doing "It!" Winning the battle against our weight issues. So we should be rejoicing today in what we have accomplished so far, and wait in anticipation to see what surprises, tomorrow may have in store for us! Keep a journal of all our "NSV" triumps, so we can have them to reflect back on, when the day doesn't seem to be our friend, and then "rejoice again", praising God for His unwavering Love and support. We've spent enough time being down, sad, and feeling sorry for ourselves. No More! Stay on course, keep moving, remembering that "time waits for no one," so make it count everyday. Rejoice, your heart will thank you later! Praying For My Family Always, Diamond45 :D

Hey Sunta - awesome nsv - please keep us posted on how you are doing - I'm about 15 months out and have started occassionally having some pain in the port - a few times it felt extra hard and seemed to be sticking out more - a few times it was kinda burning...thinking it is passing thing but of course wondering too - It's certainly not from my losing weight - ha whereas I see you've lost quite a bit (congrats) - maybe it is closer to the surface on you now? Who knows - just hoping all is ok with you.
-
Well, I went in for a CAT scan tonight to try to find out about this horrible pain I've been having in my port area. I'm one year banded and have lost 80 pounds. While I was in the dressing room, I put on that little hospital robe and for the first time in my adult life, IT WRAPPED ALL THE WAY AROUND MY BODY!!! How ironic is that??? I just had to laugh, here I am exactly one year and one day post banding, and having major band pain and possible complications, but yet what an NSV! LOL! At least at made me feel a tiny bit better!

Congratulations to you! It's great that you set some NSVs as your goals and that you kept track of when you met them. What a great idea! Nancy

Way to go Penni. You must be on cloud nine. I would have bought every color also. That is a great NSV. So...when is your next shopping trip for clothes.

End Of Week 3 And Up 1 Pound !
Webchickadee replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know each surgeon's post-op instructions vary (quite wildly, in fact!). I myself was not eating solids until 4 weeks out and started out very gingerly at that.........eating mostly mushies! A 1 lb increase is very normal when you're weighing yourself daily. As you mentioned, extra salt can cause increased Water retention. For women, hormonal changes cause all kinds of water fluctuation. A lack of bowel movements can also increase our weight. And as SMP1126 mentioned, "starvation mode" can throw us into a stall and cause fluctuations as well. The "Week 3 Stall" is a VERY well known topic here on VerticalSleeveTalk. If you were to type that into the search bar (top right hand corner of the page), you would be AMAZED at the number of posts and amount of discussion about it! Don't get discouraged, and stay your course. Keep drinking your fluids, go slow and easy with your foods. Try to get moving if you can (not sure swimming is a good idea yet, especially if you had a drain.....it takes time for those incisions to really heal up, and chlorine in the wounds won't help!). I do quite a bit of walking and I started swimming around week 6-7 post-op. Keep up the great work, and if you can manage it, put the scale away for a few days. The stall will drive you crazy (up 1/2 pound, down 1/2 pound, up 1 pound....ARGH!). Instead, try taking your measurements and monitor them. And take note of how your clothes are fitting. These are very motivating NSVs (non scale victories) that are not tied to the evil scale. -
ha ha LMBO, that's a good one...how about ROTFL - doesn't that mean rolling on the floor laughing? I have one. LSHIPMP - laughing so hard I peed my pants!! not really, but I thought it was clever...ANYWAY I have an NSV! I can now wear size 16 jeans. Yes, you read correctly. Me. Wearing. Smaller. Jeans. woohoo! I'll wear them on Sunday if they still fit by then...

No Not The Shoes, Not Yet...
funkeechiggen commented on angellic16's blog entry in angellic16's Blog
Ohhhh! I can't wait for that to happen to me!!!! I wear a size 11W and I want to buy CUTE shoes again Can't find anything in a size 11W except boring, orthopedic-looking shoes! And if they do carry a cute shoe in size 11W it's always out-of-stock! Congrats on your NSV, even if it is aggravating for you
