  1. @@Djmohr I am actually beginning to worry about losing too much weight. I guess that's why I asked the question if anyone has had this. I used as a goal weight what I weighed when I got out of the Army in the mid 90's and was at 10% body fat. At this rate I will be at goal in about 6 weeks, but then what? I have cranked up my calories to over 1500, but that's about as much as I can eat at this point without going into slider foods, which I really have no desire to do.

    Pre-surgery jitters

I completely understand how you feel. I have surgery 7/10 and ever since scheduled so freaked out. Not many know I am doing this as when even mentioned many many mnths ago nothing but nrgative respnse, your not big enough, diet and exercise, really been over 100 pounds over weight for last 20 years and timer for change.
  3. I brought the Special K protein shake and it was soooooooo delicious!!!!! It has 10 grams of protein and 5 grams of fat. I loved that protein shake...... I know that we are to consume 60 grams of protein a day.

when do sizes go down quicker?

When I hit a size 12 I was so excited. It seemed like for the first time I hit a "normal" or "average" size. But then it seemed like just a week later I was in a 10! Go figure. I was sure it was a fluke so I had to keep trying different stores and brands to believe I was really a 10. Now, being able to pick up something at Costco off the table and not even try it on, is so odd to me. I used to really regret that I couldn't even look at that stuff before, being a size 22. They say it takes 10 lbs to go down a size. This was not so true at plus sizes, but now I can see it. It's motivating to think that if I lose 10 lbs I'll be in a size 8. What? That's crazy talk...but I'm trying!

    Looking For A Lb Buddy

Hi, I need a LB buddy too! the only thing is that I dont come on this site that often. But we can help each other out and encourge each other through facebook (Janae Chapman-Yates) or email jtyates34@gmail.com. I have had my LB since 1-10-10 and I only lost 65 pounds. My band was too tight and I had to get an unfill three times within the last year. My highest weight was 265 my goal is 165 to 170. I'm not from Chicago though if your looking for someone close. I am from Maryland. I think we can do this together :-)

How can you tell what to eat?

If you feel really constipated and don't want to wait for something to take foever to work, go and get a Fleet's enema. After that, take Miralax every other day. The way my doctor did the post op diet was 10 days clear liquid 10 days full liquid '10 days mushie foods. Like everyone said, call your doctor and ask how you should proceed with your post op diet. They should have given you something written down, about a post op diet.

    Sleep apnea testing

Ah, sleep apnea. I had two sleep studies, which after insurance cost me about 200 bucks a piece. Not to mention the monthly fee for the machine. I think that last about 10 months, not sure yet. Those the sleep tests are horrible and the machine is costly, the change is awesome!!! :tt1: More energy, better moods.... everything. You will get use to the machine and the face gear. I love mine and missing one night on it makes me a monster... :w00t: Good luck!!!

    Helpful information

Hello my daughter is 19 years old and weighs about 230 pounds. She has tried every diet in the known universe, without success. I would like to talk to people in their teen or early 20's and parents of young adults, and get feed back on if this is a good idea and how people who have had the surgery are doing. Thanks, dgardner

Ladies and Gents... what DO U LOVE???

Exercise isn't all or nothing. Anything you do is better than doing nothing. Once you start doing *something* you can work on doing it more intensely or doing more. I started out going to the gym 1-2 times a week to ride the stationary bike and now I'm doing triathlons and working out 6-10 hours a week. I just gradually upped things.

    mushy diet

Just having surgery can make you tired for awhile. I slept for 48 hours after mine. Just got up every few hours to eat, walk and potty and then fell back into bed. Be sure you are getting enough calories. I kept track of mine the first 2 weeks and at first I was only getting about 700 a day. Now I could probly get 7000. I don't seem to have any restriction (surgery was 10/26) Also be sure you get enough protien....60-80 gr. a day. And of course enough sleep! Sharon
  12. Ape lifespan..... 35-50 years. Often die of cancers related to old age. Lion lifespan.... 10-14 years. Often die of end stage kidney disease. Carnivorous mammals don't live very long. Atkins post mortem exam showed he'd had heart attacks and coronary artery disease. he was also either obese, or retaining 20+ pounds of water when he died...(the later would indicate kidney failure.)

when do sizes go down quicker?

Na, I hit a great consignment sale and got a ton of stuff ($10/bag) so I have a lot of smaller sizes and I did try them all on. I went down 2 legit sizes. I'm almost in a regular XL shirt, but my bewbies are still ginormous, so they look like...well....like I'm trying to hard if I wear them. I feel more comfortable in the 1x for now. <sigh> Soon. Hopefully by the time I'm feeling almost back to normal post op, I'll be able to fit back into regular sizes. :::fingers crossed:::

    Fitness Fears

You don't have to exercise like crazy to lose weight with the sleeve. But, you should exercise some, at least. Start slow and gradually work up to a routine that you can live with for life. You'll find that you have better muscle tone, that your skin recovers better and that you feel better in general. I started out with just walking inside my apartment and doing 10 reps with 2 pound weights of biceps curls, triceps extensions and front arm raises. I'm now up to walking daily, using the exercise bike at least 4 days a week, and I carry that 2 pound weight in my car so I can get in arm work while I'm driving. I do a LOT of driving. I also have 5 pound weights at home and I do quite a few arm exercises at home, plus ab exercises and I just added squats and lunges. I'm seriously working to add in a little at a time and keep my workout routine under an hour a day...and not all at once. I keep the home weights on top of the entertainment center. If I walk by there, I'll grab the weights and do a few reps for my arms. If I'm sitting to watch tv, I'll do a few ab crunches. It takes under 10 minutes to do 30 crunches, even when doing them slowly to make sure you maintain proper form. You don't have to spend hours a day in the gym to work out. But, if you're going to be addicted to something, why not exercise?
  15. Update: I still have no idea what it was, but it was gone by 10:30 when I went to bed. Whatever it was kept slowly moving down from my throat to my chest and then all I felt was some pressure in the chest area. I ended up drinking the whole can of pineapple juice with no problems, but would belch a lot after each sip, which seemed to help. My DH said I just had a bubble/fart crossways (his standard answer for all that ails me, lol) I have not had any fills and won't have my first one until the 28th of this month after being banded Sept 28th. I still do not eat a lot and I still get full very fast, but I am not exercising as of yet and I haven't been on the scales but all my too tight clothes now fit again so I know I have lost weight. I have eaten the sloppy joe mixture before and never have had problems with it. I still don't understand what it was but I am very thankful it has gone away! Thank you all for you responses and advice, I highly regard it. I hope everyone in bandster land has a joyous, thankful and blessed Thanksgiving! I for one am very thankful for this board, it has been salvation many many times for me.
  16. I had my operation on 10/11 - Yom Kippur. I called it my own personal day of atonement. Things are going very well, way better than I expected. Since I began the program the first week of June this year, to today, I am down 109 lbs. I am back to eating regular food. I had no complications and no side effects worth mentioning. I figure I pegged the needle on the Good Things scale, and am very grateful for that. It is hard to say if I have more energy yet. I am pretty sure I do. My wife says I do. But, I keep pushing with more and more exercise, etc, so I am pretty well whupped by the end of the day.
  17. Sleeved 10/26. Still having tightness in throat when drinking and eating. Went back to puréed and liquids for a while. Now back to soft foods. Still doing Protein shakes as i don't eat enough to meet my protein goals without them. I have major food aversions Just the smell of some foods my boyfriend eats (cheese, fried foods, deli meats, mustard, pizza) make me nauseas and I have to leave the room. The thing that is hardest for me is taking all the Vitamins and medicine. Once I get done with those I'm not hungry at all. Other than that I feel pretty good, still learning my limits. I over did it working out a few weeks ago and I injured my large incision and still have some pain. Since then I have been taking it easy with light cardio ( walking and bike). I've lost 27 pounds since surgery. I lose in waves, I'll lose five pounds then nothing for a week and a half then 8 pounds then a week later two pounds. Hoping it will steady out when my diet gets more consistent. Either way just glad the weight is going down! Hope everyone else is doing well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Just made the cut--sleeved on 10/31. Everything is progressing well. I've lost 21.2 lbs. since the operation and 46.4 since I started the pre-op diet. My last two weigh-ins were much lower than my first two weeks post-op, but that's fine. Seems to be very common. I can advance from soft foods to the regular diet after my next NUT appt., Dec. 22. I've never craved a grilled chicken breast so much in my life! For NSVs, clothes are definitely looser, and I should be within a few weeks of moving down a size. I've ordered a few shirts that are a size smaller and fit snugly, but not too tight. I'm also getting closer to wearing my winter pea coat from two years ago. Still tired some evenings if it's been a particularly busy day, but not fatigued like I was the first week or two out. I return to work this Monday. Mixed emotions. This recovery time has made me realize there are certain aspects of my job that need to change, and if they don't in a few months, I'll feel comfortable looking for new opportunities elsewhere. Now, off to scrambled egg and cottage cheese for dinner.
  19. Sleeved 10/10. I'm doing fairly well, I can tolerate meats and veggies and dairy. I haven't tried red meat yet, I was wearing a size 26 I now fit comfortably in a size 20, and I am down 53 pounds since surgery. I love hearing all about everyone's success! Congrats to everyone! How long before you were eating mushy-food?

So just to be sure, some people were safe eating soft food after a week instead of 10-14 days? I'm just asking because I feel pretty confident that I can go ahead and start eating blended foods, I just want to see if other people have been able to do this.

    6 weeks post up question

FYI- I was banded 11/28/11 so we're about one year apart. I experienced the same except I only lost 12 lbs that first two weeks. I had my first fill around 01/05/12 but it didn't do anything. I didnt start feeling any restriction from fills till my 3rd fill in late March. But I was able to eat less those first 4 months thanks to the band. I was starving most of the time it seemed like but the band helped me eat less so I didn't gain any weight during those 4 months. You're in what they call bandster hell, and until you start to get some restriction from your fills, you will probably remain there. But 25 lbs is awesome so you're well ahead of the game. Just concentrate on eating slow, eating small and chewing big because once you get restriction, you don't want to get stuck(and most of us do). Good luck. As forum member B-52 says "Until there's restriction, it's just another diet". tmf

    New :)

Welcome! Wow, only 19!! I'm anxious to see how your journey goes so keep us posted.. My daughter is 22 and wants the surgery but I'm afraid she's too young. Maybe she isn't!!! Congratulations and keep up the great work!!
  23. This might sound like I am going against the grain...so please forgive me! Have you considered NOT logging for a little while? You are newly sleeved and therefore at you max restriction. I didn't log anything for the first 6mths at least. I do log now because I am 19+ out and not at goal so I need to be vigilant with my cals. Honestly, at your stage in the game the only thing I focused on was Protein and good quality food? Like I said it might be against the grain, but it would take the pressure of the 'diet monkey' from you? The association of good and bad food, I believe is in all of us... I chose the sleeve so I COULD eat a variety of food, as yes that includes a treat now and again! I want to eat to live, not live to eat. Good luck with the inner voice, it does get better.
