    @smiles_so_luvly how much weight have you lost so far if you don’t mind md asking and do you feel a restriction and get full easily?
  2. I also experienced a two week stall right after surgery. It’s heartbreaking, I had many doubts, I constantly wonder if I was doing something wrong. Mostly I was concerned about experiencing constipation pre op I was always regular but now I was having a movement every 3 days. That was hard and concerning for me. I tried taking more fiber in any way possible. Finally at the start of my fourth week post op things were moving along easier. Once that happen I started to see my weight move as well. I’m a little more relief now I do focus on my water, fiber, protein and getting more steps in. That seems to have help with my two issues. I am not losing weight not as fast as others but I’m ok, just trying to focus on the process.
  3. I had a lapband in 2011. I lost 225lb and in 2021 I had it removed r/t complications. I was too small for a revision at 123lb so I had no help and I have gained over 100lbs back from yo yo dieting. I am now approved for the sleeve so hopefully this works. Please let me know your success. Since I am going down a similar path soon.

    Weight gain

    This week I had two consecutive lunches that were very, very salty. I gained a pound each day. In my case its just water. It will slowly disappear. You will get used to these little fluctuations. I log all my foods and know my calories and protein every day. I therefore know I am always in a calorie deficit. It really helps
  5. Is it okay to drink vitamin water? I tried the sonic water flavor packets that way and it taste much better. You should definitely try it this summer 🙂 I dont either. Its so hard. But I know right? The my ounces went up by 7 ounces. Frustrating! Maybe not eat my last meal so late. Probably my issue as well. I have a weight watchers scale. I can't wait to start going to the gym! I plan on starting at week 5. I have a friend who agreed to go with me 3 times a week. Things should hopefully move better right? I'm only going to start with walking and the bike. Then each week increase the time by 10 minutes. Once I get cleared to do other exercises, I plan on 30 minutes of cardio then whole body workouts on the machines. Eventually increase cardio up to 45 minutes then whatever time it takes to do the other workouts. I have a fitbit watch that I should start using too. Yay! That's awesome! How much are you down so far since surgery?

    February 2023 surgery dates!

    Oooh no I've never tried it that way! I'll have to remember that in the summer time. I know some people do better with avoiding the scale, but I do not 😩. I weigh myself at the same time everyday and every little 0.1lb movement is encouraging to keep going. My scale doesn't list ounces, but it does go to the 1/10th pound, so I do track it like that. I have a garmin scale so everytime I weigh it syncs to my app so I have all my activity tracking from my watch and my weight progress in the same spot. After a week of very little scale movement, it dropped 2 lbs this morning so I think I'm over the stall! I'm cleared for working out so I've just started back in the gym last week and I added some jogging in yesterday as well so I think that will help keep things moving more than just walking or biking.
  7. It really is weird. Like I love the ricotta cheese in our lasagna, I made the ricotta bake the same way, it's definitely not the same. Then I made buffalo dip and that's not the same either, it's good, but now the texture gags me lol. I can't stand gatorade zero anymore, well the one that I like, I'm gonna try orange. Going grocery shopping later and craving an orange flavor. The fruit punch is really strong, I have to do the same thing. I think im gonna try making a slushy with it later to see if I like it that way with a lot of ice. Have you tried it that way? I had no soreness or pain really. Glad you feel better! The stage I'm on is puree/soft foods. What exactly is considered soft foods? I'm really craving pickles and cucumbers. Next stage is soft solids. I figured out that pudding mixed in with cool whip doesn't sit good or Kodiak pancake in a cup lol I know it's too early for that. That's probably why, but im gonna still avoid it. Shrimp sounds really good too lol. I think im at the 3 week stall as well. Do you count the ounces too? Well the ounces keep moving but that is it. It's frustrating and it's hard to avoid the scale. Weight was dropping, now it stopped. But how? We're not eating much.

    unless you've eaten an extra 10,500 calories this week, that "gain" is either water or intestinal contents (i.e., "poop"), or a little of both. Daily fluctuations are normal, whether you're dieting or not. If it's playing with your mind too much, cut back your weighing to once a week - then you'll see overall trends rather than the daily fluctuations.
  9. I could use some guidance. I know they say you shouldn’t weigh yourself often at home, but I weighed myself this morning for the first time in a week. I gained 3 pounds! I haven’t done anything different and I’m only a month postop, so I am only eating puréed and soft foods. Has this happened to anybody else? Any advice to get through this and not be totally depressed?

    Jealousy from others?

    I had one sibling....an older brother by 18 months. Sadly, he died in an accident several years ago. We were very close, which also gave us the ability to cut each other to the quick during arguments. By the time we were in our twenties, I shut him down with little effort with one directed exchange....."Never underestimate how well I know you. Based on some of your activities and decisions you have made, I am glad I am living my life rather than yours. If I want your advise, which is highly unlikely, I will ask for it, until then, shut the hell up." My brother never knew what "activities and decisions" I was referencing. When asked to elaborate, i just smiled and walked away and he never pressed the matter. I gained a new level of respect from him by standing my ground. He never challenged or criticized me again. People can only treat you the way you allow them to treat you. Learn to either walk away or tell them to leave. The next time you see them, they will have more respect for your boundaries because you took control in the relationship. You don't need anyone's approval but your own!
  11. Everyone talks about the post-op weight loss stall - when does it pick up again? I'm trying not to compare myself to other people's successes, but honestly am frustrated. I am 3 weeks post-op and still on the pureed foods program. I'm only getting about 4-600 calories a day and reach for about 80g of protein and make it there most days thanks to my shakes. The scale hasn't moved in a week - I guess I should be asking my surgical team, but when can I expect that to change? I know I don't walk like I should, I suppose I should do more than 30 minutes a day. My doctor also told me to take a laxative every 3-4 days due to the dietary restrictions causing constipation. Any encouragement would be appreciated.
  12. I am scheduled for this on March 23. I am concerned too as this is more about alleviating symptoms of GERD and not weight loss. I have kept most of my weight off for the past 11 years but have been struggling with major GERD symptoms. They said my pouch as double in size along with a hiatal hernia. The revision of the pouch through endoscopy is said to make it better. I am very hopeful.
  13. I have had the same issues and will be going in for revision surgery on March 23. I have already had Roux en y surgery that is 11 years old and I have a BMI of 27, insurance is covering the procedure to make my pouch back to its original size as it has stretched to double the recommended size. Luckily I have not gained a lot of weight back but do have the GERD complications along with a hiatal hernia. The surgery will address the gerd but at this time my surgeon feels leaving the hernia alone is my best option. Hopefully your insurance doesn't give you a hard time as GERD is awful.
  14. My abdominal ultrasound test results are in! The gallbladder is unremarkable. No gallstones or sludge identified. I don't have any history with gallstones and I don't want to take the risk of gallstones developing after surgery because of the rapid weight loss. Should the gallbladder stay or go? Has anyone been in the same predicament or similar?

    Should I get surgery

    No I haven’t had a revision or need to repair a complication. I have three friends who have also had surgery & they haven’t either. Revisions are sometimes needed (for personal choice like to lose additional weight or medical reason like gerd) & sometimes a complication arises that needs corrective surgery but they aren’t all that common. Ask your surgeon how many they have done. You may be surprised.
  16. This was the best thing I have ever done for myself. A true act of self love and discipline. With no regrets at all. I used to kind of roll my eyes when people would say weight lost “journey”. But it’s truly what it is. Loosing the weight gave me energy and confidence that I can’t even describe. An old friend reach out to me, as she is about to start her journey, after recommending this app I started going through my old posts.     Is this it? Is my body done?

    Thank you for posting, I was wondering the same thing as you. Am I done losing weight? We also share similar stats. My surgery day, I weighed 227 and at six months I had lost 65 pounds. My goal is to get to 149 so my BMI is normal. Over the last couple of weeks, my weight has stayed so same. I am happy you were able to lose the additional weight you wanted and I hope I can lose my last 10 pounds as well!

    March 23 buddies yet?

    As of yesterday I bumped myself up to 500 calories/75g protein and felt better about this than 400 cals/60g protein. My taste buds seem to be improving by the day. My stomach still feels a little “raw” and a little swollen but very much healed compared to a few days ago. Our bodies are amazing! Speaking of the mental aspect - I don’t think I have buyer’s remorse…??? maybe I’ll just voice out what I’m feeling as I do not know how to describe it. I just feel like woah i made a decision to undergo body modification that I can never undo. I previously had my gallbladder removed and didn’t experience the same feeling even though it does play a part in body functioning. It’s hard to remember this will result in weight loss, as I’m more focused on getting nutrients - water, protein, vitamins daily now. Feels like a game where I have to tick all the boxes daily to be sure I’m staying healthy. Again seems so far removed from this leading to weight loss. My weight loss goal wasn’t aesthetic, definitely preventative for other diseases stemming from obesity. What has been tough is seeing all the amazing food on Instagram when I’m on liquids only. 😢 I remind myself I will eat food again, this stage is to nurture my stomach back to health.
  19. All you can do is wait. A lot of people have superstitions about how to break a stall, but the truth is that it all comes down to waiting it out. If you continue burning more calories than you eat, your stall will break and your weight loss will resume. Superstitions are usually based on the logical fallacy of equating correlation to causation — I increased/decreased my carbs/fat/protein/exercise/water and my stall ended! So they assume that whatever they happened to change was the cause of breaking the stall, even though it would have happened whether or not they made the change. TL;DR - you’re doing great, so keep it up and you’ll be successful.

    Hey there! I totally understand the struggle of having medication allergies and needing to have that information easily accessible. It's great that you found a solution with the bracelet from Etsy! And congratulations on losing weight! That's a huge accomplishment! I wanted to add that I've also started making my own jewelry recently and have been getting bead for jewelry making from a great provider. They have a great selection and I love supporting a small business. Maybe you could even find some new stones to add to your bracelet now that it's adjustable!

    How did you break a stall?

    yep - stick to your plan, stay off the scale, and wait it out. Stalls are a normal part of the weight loss process. I think of it was your body having to stop and recalibrate once in awhile. As long as you're sticking to your plan, the stall will break and you'll be on your way again.

    BARELY any weight loss in first two weeks??

    "At the moment it takes me about 10-12 hours to drink a litre at most and I’ve tried things like fruit juices and teas etc…I just feel like I’m constantly forcing myself - on top of forcing myself to have Protein Shakes and Soups and all the purées," Fruit juice and other liquid sugars are the enemy. Sugar retains water as strongly as salt/sodium. And liquid sugar spikes insulin which puts energy/glycogen into your fat cells rather than letting your body burn it. High insulin is probably driving your hunger. I had to prioritize water over protein for a couple weeks. Slowly I was able to up my protein close to my goal of 80 g per day. When I forget to drink enough at first I would rapidly lose weight. (Water weighs about 8 lbs per gallon.) Then my weight loss would stall or even go up as I rehydrated.   24. There are other kinds of goals than just weight loss or smaller size. Certainly I wanted to be less heavy and be able to fit in a booth. But I also wanted to stop insulin, blood pressure meds, and be able to get up from the floor without help. I had the sleeve surgery 12/30/2022. Feels like a different lifetime before. I expected much more of a struggle, a continued war over control of my compulsive eating. I thought that would be my most likely post surgery downfall. Stopping that war became my goal. I made up my mind to befriend and protect my surgery and the signals that my smaller stomach is sending me like a precious possession. So far it's working. I am down 60 lbs since my sleeve surgery and still progressing. A little more than once in a while I am tempted and I will have something I shouldn't but I will either leave or limit myself to a taste. I noticed that if I leave I don't miss it. If I taste it it isn't as delicious or satisfying as I expected. I am respecting and protecting my stomach's ability to help me have a nicer life where I can play with my grandchildren and climb a flight of stairs and not have to plan how to get up before I sit on the floor with my grandkids. Last week I was at Costco and I really missed having a hotdog with mustard. I bought one and I ate until I felt full. I threw away 2/3 of the hotdog. I did the same thing with a slice of pizza the week before only took two bites and realized it wasn't tasting as good as I expected. I threw that away too. Something that helped me was that before the surgery I made up my mind that if I was miserable post surgery I have permission to stretch out my stomach and go back to my old ways of coping and keeping life worth living. So far I have been more at peace and happier on the trajectory I am on. I am down 60 lbs since my surgery and still progressing. Lately I am realizing that the enemy of my progress is my sense of failure when I have a bite of something unapproved. Permission to throw away the rest once I taste it or have hit "full" is freeing.   25. I tried tagging my surgeon Dr Pablo Fok Russell. He's not in the list. Im currently waiting to be wheeled to surgery. I'm so far extremely impressed. I lost a lot more weight then expected on my pre-op diet. I was allowed salad with a protein choice, 13 almonds and protein shakes. Everyone is very friendly. I had an EKG, bloodwork & xray done as soon as I arrived. The bloodwork was back in an hour! I met everyone. I like everyone. Two women on my flight rode with me here. They are getting some sort of plastic surgery. One already had a facelift already. Looked good too! I liked riding with people who were familiar. The driver was really informative. Now I'm waiting to be wheeled back!
