If you’re anything like me, you wouldn’t consider exercising your favorite pastime. In fact, some people downright hate exercising. However, exercising is a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle, and without it you definitely will not be able to lose weight. There are certain tips, however, for learning to love exercising, even if you truly hate it. First, try finding some exercises that you like to do. Of course, you should work out all of your body, but if you absolutely hate doing one kind of exercise, then look for another to take its place. You don’t have to do crunches to strengthen your core muscles. You don’t have to do lunges to work out your lower body. You don’t even have to run—you can replace it with cycling or swimming. Find the exercise you like to do and your workout will seem more enjoyable right away. You can also find other activities you like to do and make them work for your body. For example, if you like working on your garden, try doing some exercising surrounding raking or mow your yard by hand. If you enjoy the winter weather, you can try ice skating or sledding with friends. No matter what you like to do, you can find ways to get some exercise. Thanks to the introduction of the Wii and game like Dance Dance Revolution, you can even combine video games and exercise. Another great tip to liking exercise is to find a training partner. When you work out together, you can help one another stay motivated, even if you don’t absolutely love exercising. With a partner, you can have fun as well, trying things like tennis or challenging one another to meet certain goals. Trainers can also provide this for you, as well as show you new and fun exercises to help you avoid getting bored or feeling overwhelmed at the gym. Lastly, try taking some classes. Exercising classes are a great way to meet new people, learn new exercises, stay motivated, and above all, have fun. Most gyms offer low-cost or free exercise classes with membership or you can check out options at your local community center. Staying motivated if you hate exercising can be hard, but set goals and don’t quit. You need to exercise as well as diet if you really want to lose weight. Make exercise fun and it won’t seem like such a chore.

Stomach noises..help me make them stop!
soccergirl88 replied to soccergirl88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to everyone for your advice and sharing your experiences! My surgeon has me on Prilosec for the next 3 months and I'm still on clear liquids until Friday..then I move onto thick protein shakes and soups. So maybe my new stomach is just a pain in the ass. -
Sometimes I worry I'm not doing good...
lovealways posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get paranoid. Real paranoid that I'm having TOO much Protein being only 11 days post-op. I am able to get in 65 grams of protein daily through the use of two 8oz Protein shakes, which literally take me the entire day and night to consume. I usually end up with close to or a little under 400 cals a day. My family is not reassuring and keeps saying "are you having too much?" I take the two 8oz protein shakes and split them into Two 4 oz servings per sitting. I guess my biggest fear is getting in this much protein this early out and possibly stretching my brand new pouch with the liquid. It really boggles my mind. I just hope I'm not overdoing it. I get really REALLY full, but keep sipping b/c I know how important protein is =\ -
Taking your supplements? Drinking plenty of fluids? You may be focussing more on protein intake right now, but do you know an estimate on how many calories you are consuming daily?

Eas protein...yes or no?
recreatingcate replied to mbuczkowski's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried both of these, and they are on the suggested Protein list that my surgeon gave me. I liked the one on the right a little more then the other. I also had the premixed drinks verses the powder, so that will probably impact the taste. -
I was donated more Protein powder. Anyone use this? Taste good or bad? Gritty? Comments? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

GBFree82 replied to dudesmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 days post op and already up to 64oz of water and 24oz of protein drink - unjury chicken soup. That's 8oz total liquids per hour. It only bothers me if the water is too cold. -
How do I eat 3 "meals"/day AND drink 80 oz of fluid/day?
BLERDgirl replied to billitant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your rule does sound complicated. I was instructed to have a 30 min window on each side of eating. Simply put you don't want to eat and drink together. Like @@Elode I start with a glass of Water when I wake up. However my recommendation was 64 ounces of Fluid. Most days I drink a 20 ounce Protein smoothie for Breakfast with anywhere from 30 -38 gms of protein in it. I then drink between 40 - 48 ounces of water through out the day. All total I get 60 -68 ounces of fluid in. Perhaps review your diet with your nutritionist. You obviously need an adjustment in things if your are dairy intolerant. -
Wow! I'm finally on the other side!! I feel sad, happy all at the same time. I'm in a little bit of pain, it's bearable though. Don't like the gas pain too much, although today is much better than yesterday. I had 1 protein shake this am, but couldn't finish it. Trying my best to follow the books. Any tips would be great....

:thumbdown:I am on day 8 of my pre-op diet which consists of 5 Opti-Fast shakes per day. I can have sugar free jello and popsicles. I can also have any zero calorie no carb drinks. I am only allowed 1 bouillon a day if i feel lightheaded or sick. Days 2 and 3 of the diet consisted of horrible headaches and sever weakness. I am drinking plenty of water. It seems as though the hunger is gettign worse though. Any suggestions or comments? I have 7 days until surgery and FOOD IS NOT AN OPTION.

Can I start any pre op diets
MissersK replied to TLCRC3SexyMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course you can start a pre-op diet! The thing I found best is to ween yourself off of fried foods, sugary sweets, carbonated beverages, and carb laden foods. This will just help with your withdraws from whatever pre-op diet your surgeon requires. Mine is a stickler and requires a 13 day liquid diet (protein shakes and water only) with a 1 day(day prior to surgery) of clear liquids only.. Had I not been making adjustments, it would've been harder than it is now. Prepare your mind now for what you are not going to have later. Hang in there! -

I Cannot add you because I do not know how. I would start your diet by reducing calories and carbs. Increase your Protein. You are lucky not having to do a preop diet. Mine was 2 weeks. -
Business Traveling & Food Choices

I'm not quite one month, but eating solid foods. Like you, I travel at least 50% of my time. Of course, fast food is not really an option. I'm eating a bunch of fish. So far, my preference is Sea Bass or Salmon. Sides are really a hit or miss. Typically the fish portion is enough SW 372 GW 260 -

Oh yeah. I drink a lot of muscle milk, because I can find in most major c-stores. Just in case, I pack some powder protein, and blender bottle SW 372 GW 260 -
It's good to know I have a surgery buddy, keeping in contact will definitely help me stay on track when I go through my liver shrinking diet as well as staying on track afterwards. is optifast protein powder? i really haven't started buying supplies but I know I need to soon. I was on a diet when i went through my eight week class but since then I have picked up some of my old habits.

Bad breath! Please help
RickM replied to TLCRC3SexyMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, ketosis is fundamentally a result of one's diet being low in carbohydrates; it really isn't a result of losing weight as the OP's doc suggested - as you suggest, one can happily lose weight without the side effects by increasing carb intake. I never had any particular problem with these symptoms, but kept my diet relatively balanced (within our minimum protein requirements and calorie limits). When my wife was going through this, she occasionally experienced these symptoms though she wasn't specifically on a low carb diet but occasional variations in her diet would drop her below her symptomatic threshold. -
Pre-op Day 3: What Not To Do With Isopure
suzbuni commented on meloney's blog entry in A Year of Possibilities
good luck on Thrusday. I did the messed up broth and protein trick before too. Here is a tip with the whey protein. i have screwed up far too many glasses, bowls and cups of it putting it into liquid that was too hot. Heat de-natures the protein. you end up with clumpy, slimmy goo. I was stuck in a three hour class and put my chocolate protein powder into my coffee- decaf. sounds good, but it was too hot, gross mess. i tried to drink around slimmy clumps, but was not longer that hungry. can't be too hot. Container says liquids under 120 degrees. My rule of thumb if its cool enough for my three year to drink you can add protein. Otherwise you just wasted the whole mess. Your almost there good luck with surgery! -
Protein Shakes & Pre-op weight lose
cmblackmon35 replied to Heybrendacleo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, hope all goes well when it comes to your surgery...I know that when it came to my pre-opt diet...I started early as well and I only did my Protein shakes, low cal drinks, broth, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. Hope this helps some...and I am sure that you will loss those 8lbs. -
I'm a little over one week out now. Very little pain from the beginning. My biggest problem was walking the gas off, lol. I don't feel very different yet. I'm not hungry but I've got a schedule and I'm sticking to that so I can get all my fluids and Proteins in. I expect that I'll be able to tell more when I transition to solid foods next week. Right now I'm doing 2 shakes a day, one meal and a snack. I'm trying to keep the Protein first so my Snacks are something with protein like string cheese. I've got sugar free Popsicles and Jello but so far I haven't eaten any. I'm kind of surprised to find that since the shakes a sweet, what I crave is savory so no jello or Popsicles. I lost pretty well pre op, and still have some swelling and fluids but was down 9 lbs and 4" since my pre-op appointment. I deliberately didn't buy a set of scales yet because I know I get crazy and will be on them every few minutes. I'm beginning to get excited tho, I am anxious to see where this journey takes me.

Opinions Needed: Back from Vacation, Down 10 lbs!
mommyradd posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay guys so I need to share this. I had been in a stall for about a month. I stayed true to my diet. Recorded everything I consumed every single day. Almost always got in my 70-80 grams of protein and 64 oz. of fluids. Never eating more than 2 oz at a time.Treadmill 3 times a week. I go to Hawaii for 10 days, and record nothing, still stay true to my diet as much as possible, but don't know if I got in the protein most days, and definitely not all the fluids. I did still take one shake a day, but I ate less while on vacation. The only thing I decreased substantially was my iced tea intake. I have 32 oz. at home everyday. I only drank tea two times in ten days. All this to say that when I came home, I was 10 lbs. lighter! SO now I'm trying to figure out if it was coincidence, not being on such a strict regimen, decreasing the iced tea, eating food instead of two shakes a day??? I need to figure it out so I can keep it going. I'm happy but also a bit confused because it seems like when I was doing everything right, the scale didn't move, and when I have no way of measuring or eating in the right intervals, I lose 10 pounds? Any thoughts on why the sudden loss?
