    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

And im just saying in my experience and those I personally know, all started gaining back 2, 3 years after the surgery even when they ate healthy...like it started becoming a struggle for them to control hunger and cravings again Moreso for those who had sleeve done than those I know who had bypass, and 10 years later this girl I know who was 450 is at 80 lbs now from bypass and can't put weight back on 10 years later to her ideal weight at 120....shes had no problem keeping weight off and doesn't even try...but the sleevers I know all gained back a lot more than the expected 15% overtime Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Sleeve op during Covid times? Go ahead or wait??

I had mine Nov 10. I wasn’t that concerned. At this point unfortunately Covid is everywhere. Take your precautions, but I wouldn’t let this stop you from taking this step.

    EGD Monday

Monday I have to be @ the surgical center for 10:30am. I’m nervous because I’ve never been put to sleep before. How long does the procedure usually last?
  4. everyone leaves the hospital weighing more than they did when they went in because of all the IV fluids (which I believe contain sodium, which makes retention even worse!). I've heard of people "gaining" 10 or more lbs, in fact. It can take up to a week for them to work their way out of your system. You're probably fine. Even in phase 2, you're not taking in *nearly* enough calories to maintain your current weight - I'm sure it's water.

    February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

Anyone have some words of encouragement? I’m scheduled the 19th of February. I had the lapband in for almost 10 years and it was removed in October 2019. Anyone that’s had it done of what to expect more than what the doctors tell you? I’m so scared. I’m so scared I’ll fail. Or I’m making the wrong choice but I know I need to do this. I did really well with the lapband so the doctors are confident I’ll be fine with the sleeve. The fact that it’s permanent scares me.

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

You definitely will gain back 10-15% at the 18 mark, thats stated as a fact by all Dr's but from bypass it happens after 3 or 4 years and with bypass, from what I've researched, many lose much more with bypass and then when they gain back the 10-15% it's not over their goal weight, as opposed to sleeve, most lose less than 80% excess weight and then gain back 15% after 18 months and I just didn't wanna risk it. I know 3 people personally who had the sleeve, no GERD, and got resleeved or went to get a bypass all because they all gained 4o, 50 even 70 lbs back after 3, 4, 5 years and they dieted and did everything accordingly. I rather just get bypass the first time as it does have a more effective and higher rate of success. It's still the gold standard. But a part of me considered the sleeve mainly due to less complications, however I dont want the weight to creep back in so fast at 18 months that I didn't have enough time to lose all the weight. Again, every body is different. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

Yup, I got an ulcer in the first year. I don't smoke, don't drink alcohol at all, no caffeine at that time, so soda - absolutely no risk factors, but there it was. Doc thinks maybe one of the stitches didn't heal well and caused a spot for irritation, Anyway, a couple of months on omeprazole and that was done. Never had a problem since. I drink small bits of decaf coffee now, but not much. No alcohol, no soda. I also developed blood clots in my legs about 10 days out. Again, no risk factors except obesity, major surgery and varicose veins. I was out of bed walking the halls within a few hours after surgery and doing 10,000 steps a day by day 7. 3 months on a blood thinner that that was done. However, I developed phlebitis in those darn veins again just a couple of weeks ago. So I think I just need to have the veins taken care of with an ablation.

    Weight Gain

Are we twins or what???? Same here. Gained 10-12 pounds. Every single one of those pounds is chocolate/sugar. Still eating small amounts of food. Just addicted to sugar! I want to kick myself in the butt.
  9. Hey guys ive had the sleeve done roughly 10 years ago when i was 21 years of age, did well lost all of my weight was in the best shape of my life and in the last 3 years now at 32 years of age I have suffered from extreme gerd 2 hital hernias repaies and now on my 3rd hital hernia and have gained 35 lbs back . Intermittent shoulder and left under armpit/rib pain I have seen a new bariatric doctor who seems very understanding and knowledgeable and has offered me to options. 1 revise to gastric bypass Or 2 repair the hital hernia and put in a linx magnet system to help with gerd. I really don't know what to do here. I have regained some of my weight and in the last 3 years have been in pain with shoulder and chest due to what I belive is my hital hernias and Gerd. I wanted to get with the community and ask you guys/gals first hand what you recommend and why. One topic that came up was ulcers with the bypass and medications that i take such as meloxicam. Which i can switch to something else. I currently take omeperazole, temazpam, meloxicam and duloxetine. A big part of me wants to get the bypass just becuase I have regained the weight but he kind of scared me with complications that some people can have with bypass. I dont see much talk her about the linx system for sleevers is this something new that most people just don't know about or doctors just performing for bariatric patients? Please give me your thoughts
  10. Hey everyone! I am 10 days out from surgery and doing great!! Boobs still swollen and sore but not Tylenol worthy. Just a little uncomfortable. Tummy doesn’t hurt at all unless I turn or move it a way that kinda stretches-I’m careful not to but sometimes when getting up it’s hard not to. Drains come out Monday!! So happy. They are kinda annoying hanging from my lanyard around my neck. So that’s the update! DOING GREAT!! Once I heal up a tad more I’ll do some bathing suit pics. Need these drains out for starters. Lol
  11. Hello, I'd like peoples advice on which surgery to go with. Here's. My stats. I'm 5'7, 295 lbs. My BMI is 46. I need to lose 150 lbs to be at 150. I'd like to get the sleeve but with 60-70% excess weight loss plus 10-15% regain, I'm looking at being around 220 lbs when this is all said and done. With bypass, I know several people who have lost 100% of their excess weight and had it easier keeping it off. The problem is they have bad vitamin deficiency even a decade later and can't even take some antidepressants. My question is to you is, how many of you got sleeved with a 46 BMI? Did you lose more than 70%? And for the bypass patients, if you've had the surgery over 5 years ago, how restricted are you now? Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

how is your water intake? not drinking enough will slow your weight loss. also your vitamin's etc. are very important. I also have no thyroid and have been thru menopause with no hormone treatment. You are loosing 10 lb. a month which is not bad. Keep up what you are doing and give your body some time to adjust. It's been thru a lot. I also have hots and colds not sure why . You are doing GREAT just hang in there. 😃

    General dating question

I waited awhile before telling my (then) BF that I had been much larger and had had WLS. It wasn't any big deal to him. My weight loss left me with significant loose skin, especially the "apron" which had my tummy hanging down to my upper thighs. I was embarrassed greatly by my "apron" and always wore lingerie in bed to cover that part of my body. I finally decided to get a tummy tuck 6 years after my WLS, even though I was not at my goal. My WLS surgeon and the plastic surgeon agreed that since I'd held my weight loss for so long that it would be fine to go ahead with the tummy tuck. It was TRULY the best thing I've ever done for myself. My sense of self is completely different. I no longer have so much shame around this part of my body. When my BF broke up with me and I starting dating again, my WLS and tummy tuck made reentering the world of dating so much easier on my mindset. I had so much more confidence. I know that should I find a new partner, I would at some point share that I had WLS. It is obvious I had plastics, because the scar from a tummy tuck is quite large and evident. So I would be open about that, too. I figure anyone worth developing a strong connection with will take this information with acceptance and even admiration for me. Below, a current photo of my tummy. 90% of this is the tummy tuck, 10% of it is my core work that I do to keep my tummy flat and toned. (I don't know why the photo is huge; sorry!)
  14. On 11/16/20 I had gastric bypass. I had my thyroid removed, half 25 years ago, half 10 years ago. I also had a full hysterectomy 12 yrs ago. No hormone replacement. I feel like the world's slowest loser. Tomorrow starts month 3 and I'm only down 19 lbs. However, in May '17 I weighed 343, lots of up and down in between (back up to 291 May of 20) but was down to 261 on surgery day, only 19 lbs so far since surgery, keeping calories at 800ish. I'm either freezing or sweating. 2 weeks ago after calling the endocrinologist cause I felt awful, my tsh was .09 so I was hyper, now he has me skipping one day a week of my .125 Synthroid. I am not losing like the reports I see, I'm exercising a little, treadmill & bike 10 min 2-3 times a day most days. I'm feeling frustrated because my results don't feel commensurate with my effort. I'm mortified at the thought of increasing calories. I am getting my protein. There are so many opinions and schools of thought regarding calories. I'm just never comfortable, ice cold or sweating when I shouldn't be. Seems weird. Thoughts?
  15. I had a gastric bypass - also privately in the UK - in October 2020 and had a 10 day follow up with the Consultant in person early November. I also have a 3 month appointment booked for 1 February, again in person at the hospital - though I suppose there's a possibility that this might change to a phone appointment if things get bad with covid at the hospital. If that happens I'll get my Consultant to email my GP to organise blood tests at my GP's and then they can send the results to him. But I'd rather see him in person if possible, even though it's a 2 hour drive away. When I signed up to the bypass surgery I picked a "package" option which included 10 day, 3 month, 6 month, 12 month and 24 month appointment follow ups, so I'm expecting these to happen. Maybe check your paperwork and see what was included in the surgery price, and then contact your Consultant? I'd say that somebody whether your Consultant or your GP needs to be monitoring your progress and bloods?

    The dreaded stalls.... Help

I had surgery 12/20/19, and just was stalled for four months. I’ve been going crazy! Thankfully I tweaked my exercise and diet enough to get the scale moving again. Sometimes I also think that our bodies just need a moment to process the trauma and changes they’ve been through. Stalls are still as annoying as anything, though.
  17. Hey hey! Thank u for ur response. I scored an 8/10 on the ace test (not considering all the traumas unaccounted for in the 10 questions) and 2 on the resilience test. I have childhood amnesia and also short term memory problems today as well. I would love book suggestions and will mssg u. I am currently researching emdr therapy. Any thoughts or experiences with emdr? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone for September 2020?

My surgery was on 9/21. Starting weight was 284, lost 38 before surgery, now 204, so 80 lbs down. I haven't been this light for over 20 years. I have been working on the last 10 for two months, but it is slowly coming off. I do a lot of walking/jogging (average about 11,000 steps a day) and I try to break it up into one long one each day, with 5 more short ones spread over the rest of the day. I haven't done any weight lifting, but I know I need to. I eat mostly what I want, and focus on high protein/low carbs, but much lower portion sizes than I used to. I need to work on snacking, which I do too much of. My life has changed with my new size- I learned how to ride a motorcycle and got my license. Also, I joined my local volunteer fire department and am going through some training. I also can do so many things with ease now that used to be very difficult.

    Anyone for September 2020?

Checking in on everyone that was a September 2020 surgery date. I was sleeved on 9/10 - and today just after 4 months out, I'm at 59 pounds lost. (from 282 to 223). I hope everyone is having great progress, I cannot eat any bread, flour tortillas, or pasta without getting sick still, so I have completely adjusted to low carb, but maintaining about 1000 cals a day and 75+ grams of protein daily.
  20. I had bypass end of 2019. My first couple appointments (2 week and 6 week) were in person, but the rest have been phone or video. They did have my go in for blood tests at 6 months. My 1 year is coming up and it will be video as well.
  21. Hi to all. I haven't been on the forum to post for couple of days, as I had my surgery on Jan 12th. I am just curious if anyone else has ever had a 5 hour long gastric bypass. My poor Dr. worked on my lower intestines where I had so much scar tissue and he said if he hadn't fixed it that later on in life it would have given me lots of trouble. So, I'm actually very blessed that my Dr. went above and beyond for my health. However, I paid for it with the pain. Oh my goodness!!!!! I'm talking pain scale of 10 for awhile. It felt like my stomach was on fire. However, by the next morning I was much better. I only had to stay 2 nights and they were thinking 3 at first, so that of course more good news. I just wanted to share and say Hi and I'm glad to be back home.

    SIPS procedure coming up

I was in the hospital for three days two nights. Umm, it doesn't happen to everyone, but it happened to me... don't be scared, because I'd do my surgery all over again, but I vomited blood for the first two days. It hurt worse than the gas pain, but in total it probably only happened four or five times. I had the full surgery so my stomach portion was removed too and my biggest issue post op was the stitch where my stomach came out of. I probably only took pain meds the first day and a half after being released from the hospital lol (I have a high pain tolerance and pain meds make me vomit so I don't like taking them). As to the weight loss... I didn't actually weigh myself at all until I saw the doctor on my first post op follow up visit. They give you fluids in the hospital so you'll be up a few pounds for a 5-10 days so I didn't even bother with weighing myself lol. As for before and after pics... I didn't like my picture taken so I had to go to my sisters facebook page to find an old picture of me lol. Before is Christmas 2018 and After is early December 2020 In the before I was a 6xl (34-36) top and 32 pants and the After I'm a large (12-14) top and 14 pants.

    Stalled after 1.5 weeks?

That is weird I thought people get losing weight week after week. I get my surgery(bypass) on 01/19. What is this 3 week stall you’re talking about?
