    Weight Loss Patterns?

I can tell you that if you menstruate, your weight loss can stall/stop/start based on where you are in your cycle. I almost always gained 2-3 pounds in the days leading up to it and would drop 4-5 when it was over.

    Weight Loss Patterns?

I'm in the middle of week 2 post op, and I'm not losing anything! All liquid diet, getting all my protein in and only taking in around 400 calories a day. Also walking at least 2 miles or more a day. I pictured it going a lot differently especially when I read the weight loss average is 5 to 15 pounds a week in the beginning stages. I'm hoping that my body adjusts and I start seeing some progress soon. I like this subject and look forward to following the discussion.
  3. I KNOW stalls are inevitable, and weightloss isn't a smooth line. Just curious how typical patterns have been? I didn't hit a stall at 2-3 weeks, possibly because my plan was full liquids for 4 weeks PO. I had a decent loss the first month, then 5 pounds the second month. Hoping this was just because I was transitioning to regular foods. As far as food, I am following the plan, no cheating, but I really can eat a healthy amount, and am getting in all my protein and water. Just wondering if I will be a slow and (hopefully) steady loser, or if others have experienced a slow spot in the beginning then bigger losses later? Yes, I'll stick with the plan, but for those of you that have tracked monthly or weekly loss, what was your pattern? Were slow months related to anything specific like holiday's, vacation, stress, or sliding?
  4. Yesterday was my surgery date. I got to the hospital early, got all registered and up to the pre op room. Got my gown on and IV in. Was given all meds and shot in the belly and was resting peacefully waiting on my turn. Got moved to the OR holding area. I was next in line to go into the OR. The anesthesiologist was doing his thing when he got the results of my potassium level. At my PST it was 2.9 so I was given potassium meds for 2x a day for 3 days. When he got the recheck of my levels the potassium was at 2.8. 3.0 is the cutoff for safety. Surgery was canceled. I cried and cried and cried. BUT my amazing surgeon and anesthesiologist both said "when we see this happen, it's the man upstairs way of saying not today". And then I was ok with it. Upset, but ok. It will be rescheduled in the next 2-3 weeks, but man after all that the let down was huge. I wanted to eat everything in site, but I did not. I was told it was ok to eat small amounts this weekend and restart the liquids on Monday. So I ate scrambled eggs and had OJ. THIS IS JUST A SETBACK NOT A BRICK WALL! I will have this done and it will be amazing!!! Thanks for listening to my issues :)

2 months post op and 4 week stall

Oh i too was like that week 7 today. It was going nowhere weeks 4,5 &6. Surgeon told me not to worry that it will do it from time to time and this week it dropped 7lbs. Like my weight going up in half stones its coming down that way too by the looks of it. Frustrating though. Good luck. Sent from my SM-A515F using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Hello guys, I decided to go the ER in a hospital that also does bariatric surgeries. They tested my blood and I had an ultrasound of the stomach area. They said there are no signs of any leakage or inflammation, and that I must have ruptured one of my internal sutures, which may have injured my muscle. They prescribed me some painkillers, gave me a week of sick leave (my boss will be delighted lol) and told me to take it very easy with a lot of bed rest. All in all, nothing serious! Thank you for your support guys. @Janice looks like the same thing happened to you! How long did it take for you to be back on your feet?

    Exercise after surgery

I started walking pretty much as soon as I got home from the hospital. At a month out, I was cleared to do everything except for weights (had to wait eight weeks for that), so I was back doing water aerobics (at about four weeks out) the above poster is right, though - it's pretty important to get enough protein if you're going to start exercising (actually, it's pretty important even if you're NOT exercising!). Do you still do protein shakes? A lot of people give them up once they can get their protein requirements met by food, but if you're one who can't, there's that option. Also, six months is a long time to go without meeting your protein and fluid requirements - that's usually just an issue for people the first couple of months. You may want to let your clinic know about that....
  8. 6 wks since surgery. I am not taking down proteins good at all. Prior to surgery I was able to do protein and water perfectly fine. Since surgery the protein makes me sick to my stomach. i’ve been doing the refried beans and water and pomegranate or cranberry juice 50-50. I went for my six week follow up yesterday and they said that I should be eating solid foods. Now I still been doing purée. Some fish like cod or whiting. But nothing that really consist of a lot of chewing. it’s a big adjustment. I thought it would be just as easy as the adjustment and change that’s been made over the last eight months but it’s not. Good luck to you.

    Stall and it is awful!

It may be slowing down since you are after the honeymoon phase and closer to goal. Keep doing what you are doing. Others have been able to break stalls by increasing fluids, exercise or doing a reset day. I tend to exercise in the morning, otherwise everything comes first and I would not get to it. 10. I’m at a loss and not a good one. I’m 2 months post-op and the scale has not moved in 4 or 5 weeks. I’m back in the gym (competitive lifter) but not lifting heavy (130lb deadlift to start). I will admit that my diet can use some work. I’ve been under some extreme stress from work and a have not been sleeping well. I want to cry everytime I hop on the scale hoping for some movement only to be stuck in the same 2-3 lb range. My surgeon hopes for more weight loss during my 1 month appointment so I can’t even imagine what she will say when I go back in 4 weeks. I just don’t know what to do.

    Pain question

No hard & fast rule with pain. We heal differently, there are variations in our individual surgeries & our pain thresholds are different. Many seem not to need opiates to manage their pain by day 4 as the strong pain goes & only rely on over the counter pain meds if needed for the random bouts of discomfort or spasms on moving too far, too fast or certain body positions. Gas pain seems to persist the longest - sometimes into the second week but pain meds won’t help with that. It does get better. All the best.

    Stall and it is awful!

i wondered if it was a combination of a stall & the expected slow down of your weight loss too.. Those last pounds can seemingly take forever to go. Yep, exercise accounts for about 10% of your weight loss. So exercising will only contribute to the loss of about 3lbs of your last 35. I get not having the time or energy to exercise after work. I was the same plus I really detest it. I discovered exercise snacking. That is exercise in short bursts a few times a day. I do about four sessions a day lasting 5-10mins each & totalling about 20-25mins. (After lunch, before & after dinner & before bed.) They found that short bursts are just as effective as a single sustained exercise session. They’re much easier to fit around the demands of your day & much less an onerous task (which is how I saw exercise).
  13. Hello everyone! I had the gastric sleeve done in 2016. I lost a total of 140 lbs. I hit a stall and managed to keep myself at that amount. Fast forward to 2020. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Hashimotos Thyroiditis, and had to have my thyroid removed due to large nodules. With all that occurring and being prescribed new meds I started to gain the weight back. As of today I have gained most of the weight back-120 lbs. I am wanting to get back on track and try to lose it back and then some. Any tips or recommendations? Is it even possible to lose all of it back?

    Stall and it is awful!

I also experienced this, the last six months I think I lost 5-6 pounds a month. As long as your macros are in order and you're being honest when logging your food, stay the course! (It always helped me when I went through a stall to remember that this is giving my loose skin a chance to catch up, too. Every time I broke a stall my skin was tighter that it was before I stopped losing.)

    Pain question

It took me about a week, week and a half. My main issue was moving wrong and getting a sharp stabbing pain in my side and it took me a few days to learn how to sit up/lie down without aggravating it.
  16. Is there a day when the pain should begin to get better. I'm three days post-op after a gastric sleeve on Monday and the burning pain across my left quadrant seems worse now than before they let me go home Tuesday?

    Stall and it is awful!

I was going to write that six weeks was a long time for an early stall and to double-check your calories, etc - but then I noticed that you're about 35 lbs from your goal weight. Weight loss really slows the closer you get to your goal. When I was only about 20 or 30 lbs from goal, there were some months when I only lost like two pounds, despite really working at it. I would for sure double-check my food intake, though, and make sure you're following your plan to a "T". But aside from that, you may just be in that stretch when weight loss becomes harder and harder... you've probably read that weight loss is due to about 90% food intake and 10% exercise - so although exercise does make a difference, it's pretty slight. It's more effective at maintaining weight than at losing weight (since it takes A LOT of exercise to burn up a significant amount of calories). It's also great for your health, regardless of your weight.
  18. I had my surgery on Nov 29, 2022. Things have been going really well then boom the dreaded stall has hit. I haven't lost anything in about 6 weeks. I have been monitoring what I am eating, making sure i get in the vitamins and protein. I do need to increase my exercise, I am so worn out after working all day. I am seeking any suggestions on how to break thru this stall. It is driving me crazy.....

Surgery Shaming Should Be A Thing…

I’m three weeks post op from Gastric Sleeve. Only my husband and older kids know I’ve had the op. I’m a very private person and don’t like talking about myself or drawing attention to myself. I’ve been on annual leave since the op and go back to work next week. Unfortunately, I work with 200 mostly females and there will be a fair few who won’t be able to stop themselves asking me how I lost weight (12 kgs down so far) and I know this because 5 years ago I lost 20 kgs and they did the same… not sure how I will handle the questions this time and honestly I feel really nervous going back because of it.
  20. Had mine done 20th April- week today! Still absolutely shattered and really hating liquids- one more week and can start the purée I think that will be a changer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Thyroid Issues

I’m 9 mo out GS. Slow weight loss, achy n tired. One gym run I’m done for the day. Blood work showed one part of thyroid test low. I read that with sleeve should crush your pill. I on genetic Synthroid . Called the Dr for instructions, not heard back. By next week calling a endocrinologist for an appointment. Very disappointed. So much can do, retired, and have time and place, just no energy 😭 any tricks ?
  23. I am ok. A lot of pressure I guess from the gas. I feel like I’ve been beat up I’m so sore. Are you able to drink ok? I’m on clear liquids for a week. 1 ounce every 15 mins.
  24. So about a week ago i uploaded a post about how nauseous i felt and was unable to drink water and had on going nausea. 2 days ago i rushed to the emergency room. I had just seen my surgeon this day and was feeling great. before this i was in bed for weeks feeling the obvious very unwell. I was slowly starting to recover and i felt good enough to go to his office which is about an hour away from where i live. I went to my appointment all was well and he said i was doing great. That same day i went to visit my cousins and i was driving i felt a little discomfort on the sides of my stomach but that feeling went away. When i got home i felt an instant stabbing sensation on my lower left back that felt like a sharp/ blade or knife literally stabbing me over and over again i was on the floor rolling in pain and severe agony for 2 hours until the feeling that was in my back traveled to my stomach and the pain was so unbearable i could no longer take it. I rushed to the emergency and i got there at about 12am in the morning i waited till 10:30am the next day until i was seen so i was in 10+ hours of pain. I took endone and many other pain killers literally nothing took the pain away. and at this point due to the aggressive pain i was in i was extremely dehydrated and only received a iv fluid at 7am and i felt extremely upset as i told them i had just done a bariatric surgery and needed fluids. anyways. i had blood, test ct scans and urine tests. Blood was found in my urine and the excruciating pain was KIDNEY STONES. I did end up passing them through the toilet but this was the worst pain i’ve ever endured in my whole LIFE. Worse than waking up from THE vsg worse than anything i’ve experience id rather go through vsg first day then kidney stones. Anyone had the same problem as me. i’d love to hear. Thankfully i’m doing a little better now. but the nausea at the hospital was unreal i was unable to down tablet pills or anything and i was gagging every second it was horrendous. I also have super bad constipation. i feel so heavy. i’ve tried an enema but it didn’t work so hopefully i’m gonna try something else but other than constipation im doing okay now. Babe you had a similar situation is kidney stones very high after Bariatric surgery. the nurses and doctors told me it is because of the less water and food intake.
