3rd week on full liquids and getting hungry
chicamam1 replied to weightisover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i have aplan for dinner what do you all think? im going to do some ground turkey in some sloppy joe mix. then blend it for me to eat? lots of protien in one serving 26 grams, for the family ill put the blended mix on french bread and some low fat cheese for yummy cheese pizza  do you think blending meats at this time is ok? im starting to actually get really hungry now 10 day post op and protien shakes are doing the trick anymore. ive been drinking the 50 grand slam with 50 oz protien. I dont want to upset my band but man im sooo hungry and for some reason ( maybe its in my head) real foods that are low carb low fat in the blender work well to satisfy me. I made a huge mistake yesterday. I took a yogurt to work thinking it was 3 4 oz but it was six. and boy i felt it. I was sick for the rest of the night. couldnt even eat dinner (( i need to check my portions every single time!!! -
Nausea every time I eat - 3-4 weeks post op
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 replied to loveflowers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi @loveflowers Man, you weight is coming off fast! It is so great you can get the protein shakes in. Have you tried protein soups? Hot and savoury, which makes a great change from the often-sweet shakes. And yogurt is good too - some of my earliest variety was adding flavour to plain yogurt - sweet chilli, chipotle... Your surgical team will have good advice - it does come right, but sometimes takes a little time. And the diarrhoea-then-constipation is very very common! Again, it usually comes right... Nice to see you here - the support makes all the difference... -
Nausea every time I eat - 3-4 weeks post op

I went through a similar path. Make sure you stay on the liquids. The constipation stage was horrible for me. Brought out roids and I won't even get into that. I ended up taking daily probiotics and adding them to yogurt or pudding, and every other day had probiotics that had added fiber. I think the brand was Culturelle? I stole some from the supply for my kid - but the adult version is just taking 2 of the kid doses. I started with kid doses (one packet of powder). Just make sure you get those liquids for sure. I have heard the biggest contributor to readmissions and complications ends up being dehydration. Back in the day I would just chug a bottle or two of water and catch up, gone are those days! -
Anyone else have May 27 surgery date?
jajmj replied to wilbskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, day 3 post surgery. I have never taken so many naps in my life although I am NOT complaining! Having to remember to eat/drink 4 oz of liquid every hour is interesting. I know I get a little more tired after I have something besides water - like jello or yogurt. Same routine til my follow up appointment with my surgeon on Tuesday and my PCP on Wednesday. We shall see what the next phase brings. Anyone else have a post-op update? -
hard to tell since I have not pushed the limit much for food. Still eating liquids and puree, mostly soup, yogurt, pudding so not sure but i want to continue as i am for a while.

Travelling the Americas after VSG
penguin83 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, was sleeved 3 weeks ago today, spent time recovering and now continuing my journey through central/South America. Finding it hard to locate good food sources, as Greek yogurt not common, and a lot of meals are based around maize and beans etc. In terms of eating I’m managing 1 scrambled egg for breakfast (takes a good 30mins to get it down) and drinking lots of water, but worried I’m not getting enough protein. Have tried pharmacies for protein and protein bars but all seem to carry a lot higher sugar and carb content than I’ve been used to and am allowed. Anyone else been travelling straight after surgery? Any ideas? Also still have wicked pain and bruising from major incision site - is that normal after 3 weeks? I would have thought it would have eased up by now. Every other site including drain site is healed and fine. Thanks. -
What is your on the Go Protein?
GreenTealael replied to zbradburn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep premier shakes handy as well as string cheese, yogurt and nuts. Just found Parmesan crisps and they are amazing. If I'm somewhere that no good options exist I try to search for a GNC and but a snack there -
Please tell me I’m not the only one!
sillykitty replied to BrookeR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Each plan is different. Not all plans require soups to be strained. Mine plan for instance was full liquids once discharged from the hospital. The rule was anything that would go through a straw. So I made soup, pureed, but did not strain. I was also allowed yogurt, pudding, and other very soft foods during the liquid stage. So just because your surgeon requires this program does not mean that others will stress their stomachs or threaten the "seal". As long as everyone follows their surgeons plan, it's all good. -
Hi, Thank you so much for replying to my thread. Please don't scream, but I'm not consistently eating low carb/sugar but I'm a heck of a lot better than I was a year ago. Mornings/Breakfast: 1 cup 2% Fairlife milk, with sugar free Nestle Breakfast essentials chocolate powder, 1 cup coffee. This makes my own latte-ish drink. An order of Sous Vide egg bites (egg white and red pepper) from Starbucks (170 cal). Lunch: Frozen entree with at least 15g protein but fewer than 10g of sugar. Snack: greek yogurt with fewer than 10g of sugar or starbucks frappe Dinner: whatever the family eats...last night it was spaghetti. Because of the size of my stomach, I can't eat as much as I used to so I really don't understand why I'm not losing more.

I have tried yoplait Greek yogurt and it is pretty good? Anyone else try other brands? What's the best?

Chobani and now I am in love with Noosa, its a Australian yogurt, I add a scoop of unflavored protein to it as well as 1/4C of fresh fruit.....its great!

I eat a lot of greek yogurt so I never bothered with probiotics. Then again I guess the amount of yogurt I eat is why I am never constipated.

3 Months out and Gas pains?
worm2872 replied to worm2872's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all! I got some sleep and I am doing better today. Living on yogurt and water crackers. They think it affect me differently because of the surgery. I seem to be the weirdo with the intestinal issues. It just scares me since I had a complication with an intestinal stricture (staple caught the other side and twisted.) If it didn't ease up today I had to go in for an x-ray. -
Sleeve gastrectomy with functional obstruction from angulation
Moon123 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my sleeve surgery on 3/8/2013 ,i am 2 weeks post op and from day one I have been having a lot of discomfort , pain and spasms in the abdomen ,things started to worsen last week when I had episodes of vomiting after I drink any liquid or even after my chewable vitamins ,my surgeon ordered barium test that showed no leak but v narrow area where liquid is barely passing,I cant not tolerate things like cream of wheat,Greek yogurt ,i would vomit anything other than warm to hot liquids and I was starting to get dehydrated ,I was admitted to hospital for IV fluids and endoscopy to see what was going on! This morning I had the endoscopy which showed a functional obstruction in the sleeve and a stent was put to keep the obstructed area open ,the endoscopy dr said it must be removed after 6 weeks ,I am at hospital with bad pain and severe nausea ,I just wanted to share my experience and to see if anyone had a stent ?also I was told that after removing the stent in 6 weeks and evaluation I may need another one.I am so frustrated, confused ,I was not expecting all this after my surgery. -
Hello all I am scheduled for surgery on Nov. 16, and I start my 2 week, full liquid, pre-op diet on the 2nd. Over the weekend I bought supplies (broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles, etc) and a few samples of Protein powder to try them out. I bought the Syntrax nectar chocolate Truffle and a few sample packs of Jay Robb. I've tried each now (I am trying to perfect my shake making technique BEFORE the pre-op diet) and while they go down fine, I'm noticing some...shall we say...digestive challenges. And by challenges I mean cramps in my tummy and some loose stool issues (sorry, TMI). I suspect I have some lactose intolerance, so I switched to unsweetened almond milk and still had the issues. Could it be the Protein Powder? If so, I'm screwed! Does anyone have any advice on protein powder for lactose intolerant folks? Also - switching gears, my Dr.'s pre-op diet is a little light on details. He says "any food that is liquid or semi liquid and is low is sugar or sugar free and low fat" OK....so do you think yogurt is ok? Greek yogurt that is. I put it in the shake to up the protein content. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I like Premier Protein peaches and creme, some people thing,it tastes fakey but to me it tastes just like peach soda pop, I also like Muscle Milk Blueberry Greek yogurt flavor, lower I proein, a little high carb count but I like blueberry, caramel, premier protein, strawberry Muscle Milk and Svelte, french vanilla, it is soy based don't taste it though, cool and smooth. What I don't like is Wal-Mart Equate, yes it is supposed to be equivalent to PP but to me has that fakey evaporated milk undertaste. Others I really haven't tried that much.

What Are Some Good Uses.....
greenfamily004 replied to em7601's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Warm a 3 oz can of chicken. Then spoon in 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt. Then sprinkle a little reduced sodium taco seasoning over it and mix everything together. Mexican flavor!!! -
Copied from http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2012/01/frozen-protein-drops.html Tons of interesting recipes I want to try on this blog. Frozen Protein Drops A quick and easy, weight loss surgery friendly frozen protein snack... Shelly's Frozen Protein Yogurt (or Pudding) Drops 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt (or sugar free Pudding) 3-4 Tablespoons (to taste) of any Protein Powder Mix together till well combined. Line a baking sheet with wax paper and drop tablespoons of the mixture (yields about 25 drops) or fill an ice cube tray. Freeze till solid about 2 hours. Store in the freezer (up to a week or so) and pop a few in your mouth whenever you want a frozen protein treat or add to smoothies for an extra protein boost instead of ice. In this batch I used Celebrate ENS in strawberry & chocolate Milk. I had weight loss surgery in one of the hottest summers on record. I would have LOVED these that summer. I kept hearing the music of the ice cream truck driving by the house and it about drove me nuts.

MoodyJillyBean78 replied to springerboy05's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My dr had me add powdered milk to everything when I got to the full liquid stage to bump up the protein. 1 scoop in yogurt, pudding, soup, shakes too! As for water try room temp. But if your having discomfort it might be gas… so try walking more (down the hall 2-3x) before and after sipping. I didn't get all 64oz in for a couple of weeks. Way to go, your doing great! -
Yogurt, stringcheese, tuna, your surgeon should have given you a list of foods and when you can start eating them

I ate some rice at 5 weeks, but what helped me was to blenderize it with some sauce (chicken curry, in my case). Eating at work is really hard for me. I bring yogurt or string cheese. It takes me to long to eat, and I don't really want my co-workers asking questions. I also bring a Protein drink--Rockin' Refuel. Hope everything works out when you return to work! Shari

It took me a long time to get used to Greek Yogurt, but I kept at it and love it now! Funny how things change Post-surgery, I make Protein Jello (1/2 pack of unflavored protein - a full pack is too much for me, and a box of a strong flavored sugar free - like cherry) and then put about a 1/4 cup jello and 1/4 cup plain greek yogurt and mix it together. Gives it the fruit flavor without the sugar.

FAGE is so yummy - my absolute favorite is the peach! I've tried every other brand of Greek yogurt I can find in the storeand by far, Fage is the best around!
