June 4th surgery twins?
Pearldrop replied to sharaimonique's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there. I’m doing great, I stopped all pain meds last week. I’m having no issues with drinking water and can drink between 2 -3 litres a day. I just sip all day, I go back to work Monday so am hoping to keep it up once I’m back in my routine. I have a shake for breakfast every day, and as it is not sweet I think I’ll continue this until I run out of the powder. I also have coffee. I have been having a lot of soups for lunch/dinner. I’ve been adding lots of herbs to give them the taste I’ve been missing. I have either yogurt or protein jello as my afternoon snack. I start the purée stage tomorrow yeah!! -
Cheating on liquid diet

Honestly, yes. I was 15 days post op and still doing premier protein or broth. I have a physical job nd was feeling sick not getting something solid. I started to add 4 oz of puréed soups with a tbsp. Of Greek yogurt. I tolerated it well and if anything noticed that I need to slow down when I eat. I stayed full longer and had more energy. Today I’m 18 days post op and I have introduced Cottage cheese and egg. -
White bean chili with chicken - YUM! https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/white-bean-chicken-chili except that I use ground chicken rather than cut up. It came out delicious and not very spicy. Put a little shredded cheese or Greek yogurt on top with a little green onion.

I do a lot of food based protein. I do have one protein smoothie every morning that gives me a good "head start" for the day, buy the rest comes from 100% food based. I would research high protein foods and get an idea of what you like vs. what you don't like. Your taste buds could change after surgery, but it mostly has to do with things being overly sweet after surgery. I eat a lot of the following: - eggs, all different ways - Greek yogurt - tuna packets -jerky -cottage cheese -chick peas - Brussels sprouts -Fairllife Milk with sugar free chocolate syrup. -Almonds -Meat, meat and meat. I don't discriminate with meat. I also eat soy meat 2-3 times per week. I find different ways to mix it up, as to not get bored.

June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!
NativeTexan replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery is over. Even had hiatal hernia repaired while in surgery. No pain, no vomiting or dry heaves! First week was hardest with clear liquids only. Second week so much better with yogurt & protein drinks for strength. Dr. Ponce was awesome even though he doesn’t speak English! I’m looking forward to eating solids in the future! -
Surgery 4/13. Start weight 391, surgery weight 360, current weight 312. It seems like ages ago...weird. Had a major stall and weight loss has slowed...a bit depressing. So many friends have positive comments about progress but I feel like I’m going to let everyone and myself down. I’m now losing slower and even tho I’m eating less than presurgery. In the last month I have had difficulty with water, which is so strange for me cause I was easily drinking on average 100oz. daily pre and post op. Water now often hurts my stomach. Really trying to control myself but I have had no food issues, which is scary. I feel I could probably eat anything. Worst is a small bite of a cannoli yesterday Daily routine is premier protein shake, yogurt, baked or grilled chicken/beef jerky/or other meat...craving crunchy and salty, so either have a handful of nuts or pretzels or pb cheese crackers (figuring this is problem). Will have small amounts of salad/veggies/fruit but not daily. I need to get more exercise ...doing an hour of water aerobics 3-4 x a week and some walking. We are flying on vacation in September...so feeling anxiety about being comfortable on plane and dining chairs with arms. Maybe I had unreasonable expectations of losing faster? I am better off today than 8 months ago but a looooong way to go. I’m going down instead of up!

I only stayed one night in the hospital. I didn't have very much pain, so I was ok to go home. It was hard to get water down the first few days, but you have to keep at it. I never developed any intolerance to dairy and ate cheese and yogurt all of the time. I was never put on a pre-op diet. You're going to be amazed at how fast your body changes. -
Favorite Healthy Foods after Surgery
istytehcrawk replied to Gundy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The wonton lasagnas are the BEST. I use this recipe as a base but make my own sauce (with ground turkey) and use Greek yogurt-based cream cheese instead of ricotta (which I don't like). http://traceysculinaryadventures.com/2013/03/muffin-tin-mini-lasagnas.html I've made them several times; here's a post with more detail: https://www.bariatricpal.com/profile/332142-istytehcrawk/?status=406246&type=status -

I think maybe your Nutritionist is coming from a place where they don't want you to become obsessed with calorie counting? Who knows? I am definitely trying to get my calories up in hopes that I don't destroy my metabolism either. I am two weeks post op and I average 450 to 600 a day but yesterday I got up to 700. My Nutritionist told me I should be getting at least 60 grams of protein a day and try to stay above 500 calories a day for this soon out of surgery but to get it to 1000 as soon as I can without over filling my sleeve. She said for the first couple months you should be eating/drinking a shake every 2ish hours. This is what my calories and grams of protein look like right now: 7am - 270 cal/ 30g - Morning Protein powder (120 cal, 20g ) and a cup and half of lactose free milk (150 cal, 10g) 10am - 80 cal/ 1g - Half of cup of pureed sweet potato and lentil soup Noon - 50 cal/ 8g - Half a cup of greek yogurt watered down 3pm - 160 cal/ 20g - Premier Protein Shake 6pm - 100 cal/ 3g - Tomato soup with a little greek yogurt mixed in. So that puts me at 660 calories a day and 61 grams of protein. This does not include all my water/tea. I feel like am constantly having to eat to get this high but I don't want to get fatigued or malnourished. Soon as I can start having soft foods I am hoping to get it to 800 at least.

I am in the mood for a grade-A pity party and you're all invited! Some of you know that I'm 3.5 months post-op and got cleared for solid foods at 6 weeks. My formerly cast-iron stomach is now made of blown glass (thanks for the visual, @Frustr8) and can't tolerate much of anything, especially anything that looks or feels like solid food. I decided a couple of weeks ago to give up on solids for now and stick with mushy foods, like soups and yogurt. I thought I'd try solids again in July. About 3 weeks ago my surgeon sent me to get an upper GI done to see if he could figure out why I was having so much trouble with solids. I had a follow-up with him yesterday to discuss the results. My esophogus doesn't work! I've never even heard of that! Apparently, the muscles in your esophogus are supposed to contract in a coordinated, rhythmic pattern to push and guide food down to your stomach. Instead of getting coordinated ballroom dancers, my muscles are more like the lanky guy that looks like a spider on a hot plate. The muscles just randomly contract all over the place and do nothing to help the food get to the stomach. So, when I've felt like the food was backed up to the back of my throat, it really was. That was why I was miserable for 2 hours after eating anything solid. My esophogus "tube" literally got stuffed and didn't empty. I've also got severe acid reflux which he thinks can make the esophogus even worse, besides the possibility of acid erosion and increased chances of esophogeal cancer. So for now, he told me to stick with mushy foods until I see him again in September. At that point, he'll run some more tests and decide if I need a sleeve-to-bypass conversion. It wouldn't help the esophogus muscle contractions per se, but by lessening the chances of acid erosion it would keep the esophogus from getting any worse. He doesn't know when or if I will ever be able to handle real, solid foods like beef or chicken. Fortunately, I can eat ground meats if they are in a liquid, but absolutely nothing without liquid. Fish is fine since it was always on the mushy-food list, but 1 oz. max. And, absolutely no breads, rice, etc. as they would be easily stuck. I guess I never noticed the problem because I always drank so much with meals that I would just wash the food down. The doc doesn't want me doing that though, probably because that makes it so much easier to overeat. Anyway, he says he's never seen anything like this in the thousands of surgeries that he's performed. Lucky me! WAAAAAAH! OK, rant over. Feeling better now Thanks for "listening"!

I recommend protein powder and a shaker bottle. Several of the syntrax flavors mix well with plain water and I have purchased a 'sample' pack on Amazon that had a variety of flavors all in single serving packets. That way no matter what you can get protein and your liquids which are the most important things at 6 weeks out. Airports are pretty easy as mentioned above - meat/cheese out of a sandwich, hard boiled eggs, cheese sticks, and yogurt are readily available - just read the labels carefully on the yogurt. Ask you program about protein bars, mine doesn't allow them until 6 months out but yours might for this sort of situation. Absolutely try a few things out at home first if you can to make sure you can tolerate them and aren't uncomfortable on the trip. And once you get to your destination look for a convenience store nearby where you can pick up a few staples to keep in your room refrigerator - again, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese sticks and lunchmeat. I frequently toss a cheese stick in my work bag in case I need it but I know some people get worked up about keeping them ice cold - so that's up your comfort level.

Any June 2018 Sleevers in Here?!

I started full liquids yesterday and I haven't had any trouble drinking an 11 oz protein shake or eating 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt, so I think we're both doing fine. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
ALFxRNY replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So it’s getting very real, did my pre-op appointment today. Signed everything I needed to sign giving them permission to perform my surgery. I am only required to be on my liquid diet for 10 days. Down side(s): 1) found out that I didn’t need the isopure after ordering the isopure that my nutritionist insisted that I needed 🤦🏽♀️ 2) I have to take lovenox injections. I absolutely HATE needles so I have no idea how I’m gonna pull off injections for 10 days. I have ONE more appointment before surgery. On the 20th I go to the hospital to meet with the Anesthesiologist. After that I am all set! Oh and my pre-op diet is three protein shakes and two 100 calorie yogurts a day. Doable, I happen to like protein shakes 🤷🏽♀️. Anyway, that was my update. Sorry about being long winded, lol -
15 days post op and can drink 11oz of Protien Shake
sleevedinschool replied to AdiosAnnie300's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I came on here with the exact same question as OP, and this is just what I needed to hear. I was worried about not feeling much restriction with full liquids like Premier Protein or yogurt. Thanks! -

@Hal711 - Love your mantra and thinking about it as I watch the clock. 5 more minutes till lunch. HAHA! I have a couple options for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Yogurt and Cottage Cheese can be combined with 3 oz. of Turkey, Fat Free Ham or Chicken for lunch or dinner. I just eat really slow and savor each bite. -
I don’t have suggestions for a drink but I will say if you normally eat low fat, or reduced calorie items maybe try eating the full calorie version. So if you normally eat low fat cottage cheese, swap for 4% milk fat. If you normally eat no fat yogurt, find some whole milk variety. Add some healthy nuts in your diet if you tolerate them. Things like that could help you maintain maybe?

Wow pearldrop you're doing great with water. I am really jealous of your daily coffee. I can have decaf in 3 days. It's starting to be a long time, especially because I feel so low energy. I am on semi-liquid now so I am allowed soft rice crispies in milk for breakfast. I have 1/2 cup of protein shake for snack or yogurt and soup for lunch or dinner. I also like frozen shakes for dessert or snack. Sent from my LG-H831 using BariatricPal mobile app -
8 days post HELP ME PLEASE
BajanSleeve replied to eso0402's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone seems to have variations in what their doctor/hospital recommends for post op diet. I was told to stay away from dairy and milk products until day 10 because they cause nausea and stomach upset. I'm wondering if the dairy in the yogurt and protein shakes are giving you these issues. Buy some flavored electrolytes to put in your water. They help when you have the runs and are not getting that much liquid - also help even out blood pressure. -

Each plan is different. Not all plans require soups to be strained. Mine plan for instance was full liquids once discharged from the hospital. The rule was anything that would go through a straw. So I made soup, pureed, but did not strain. I was also allowed yogurt, pudding, and other very soft foods during the liquid stage. So just because your surgeon requires this program does not mean that others will stress their stomachs or threaten the "seal". As long as everyone follows their surgeons plan, it's all good. -

Hi BrookeR - 5 days post op and I have been wondering the same thing. I haven't even felt hungry until yesterday. So, I had a 1/4 c cottage cheese. No problem, no nausea. Then I had yogurt - again no problem. This morning I made instant oatmeal with protein powder and cinnamon - ground it up in a small grinder first even though the oats were instant - poured on almond milk and it was awesome. I'm not supposed to have it until stage 2 of diet. So now I am wondering - if I did damage to my sleeve, how would I know? I feel fine. The only problem I've had through this whole thing is that, if I do like a little bit of housework then go to take a shower, I become exhausted - no heavy lifting but a lot of stairs to climb. I have a desk job so I was thinking of going back to work - 6 days post op but then I wonder if I'll get tired there. I've lost 14 lbs in 5 days. Also, I'm 62 years old so maybe it's just because I'm an "older" sleever - have to give myself injections to prevent blood clots for two weeks - but I am amazed that there hasn't been more problems! I hope I didn't screw up by going of the plan! -
What was your first food after the liquid stage?
Creekimp13 replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Liquid stage of my post op diet only lasted a week. After that we'd add one thing at a time to see how it agrees with us. We started with things like strained cream soup, yogurt, thin cream of wheat....then moved to soft foods like cottage cheese, tuna, potato. As your tolerance improves and time goes on, you add different things, take it slow, chew well, and see how you tolerate them. You don't really jump from just fluids to some fantasy meal you like...LOL. There's a whole lot of....Yay! I ate refried beans and an avacado slice today....inbetween. Some stuff takes longer to eat comfortably. Bread was hard for a long time. Six months out, I can eat it comfortably, but for months it was awful. Fibrous meats...baked chicken, steak, chops....took a little longer, too. For a while, it's all about texture and little teenie quantities. In truth, your first "real meal" might be about a quarter to a half a cup total.....hopefully with a few good bites of protein in there. -

I’m one week post op. (June 4). I’m sipping flavored water alternating with protein drink all day. I have small amts yogurt, SF jello and SF popsicles. I know I’m not getting enough protein and hydration. I’m having no nausea and tolerating everything well and have lost about 6 pounds since date of surgery. BUT I’M HUNGRY??!! I thought the sleeve would kick out my hunger - when does it start?!! -

Hello, I am eating jello and yogurt so far. My throat is still sore from the incurbation so swallowing is a challenge but it is getting better. I have my 1st week follow-up tues. also I’m not hungry. what are eating? -
I had the same issue. I cut it out for a few weeks and then was able to add it back in with some success. I can’t have too much (yogurt is right out but cottage cheese is okay). The reality is I just can’t eat that much anyway as opposed to my pre surgery dairy trigger and so I just don’t get the reaction. Unless of course I drink a protein shake /water that is whey based.
