  1. I am so fed up. I am 10 weeks post op. I didn’t lose any weight in the first 3 weeks. Very odd as it was liquid only. Between weeks 4-7 I lost just over a stone. Since week 7, and I am now nearly 11 weeks post op, I haven’t even lost 1lb. I am not drinking calories, I am sticking to the NHS guidelines and my dietician. No slider foods. High protein, low fat and hitting my fluid goals each day. Literally feel like my last draw is gone. I keep reading to trust to the process and I’ve carried on but weeks of no weightloss has no meant that I have started a water only diet, fasting as it seems my body will not lose weight if I put any food in my body. I have never felt so depressed or let down. I could understand if I was eating he wrong things, or eating too much, too little. Wondering if it’s hormonal and that’s the reason I’ve struggled for years with weightloss and gaining Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Hello Everyone, This is my 3rd week post-op and I've finally switched to soft foods!! However, I have gained 2 pounds. I'm still only having around 2 oz of food per meal. The only new items I've added are shredded chicken and low fat string cheese. Someone please tell me this is normal. I'm eating enough to gain 2 pounds but not enough to have a bm, what the heck!
  3. Thank you for the insight! Hero brand specifically caters to it being a protein/fiber ‘bread’ with no carbs - so in theory it would contain more vital nutrients (for a wls patient) in one tortilla wrap than in an entire head of cauliflower and doesn’t contain sugar like cauliflower. I think the intrigue of that fact actually lures me! I know it’s processed so that’s where I get nervous. To your point, I have noticed the ‘heaviness’ of foods affects me. Things that are more dense seem to make me nauseated and things that are light like sautéed veggies and lean proteins sit really well with me! I knew going into this I’d have to give up a lot and so far the only thing I miss is bread/tortillas/pastas. But I’d rather have health than have those things. So seeing a ‘bread’ with protein and no carbs makes me very excited. One day I’ll be able to try it, but at only three weeks in, still letting my little tummy heal. PS. Saw your birthday is July 21 - I’m July 20!!!!

    Lap band issues

I have had no issues for 10+ years. 1 week ago I had a stomach bug and vomited a lot one night and instantly started burping. Ever since then I’ve had weird GI issues and burping a lot. Nausea and bloating when eating solids sometimes. But I can eat just fine- no changes there. Any ideas? I’m hoping it’s just inflammation from irritation of vomiting but not sure how long that would last. Any help appreciated
  5. I wore the same clothes home from the hospital that I wore there. I took nothing except my purse and phone. Never even looked at my phone except on the ride home. Shocking huh? LOL I had fam members there who kept the rest of my family updated. At home, my laptop and tv remote kept me occupied between naps. Trying to read a book and remembering any of it that first week? IDK... seems a bit of a fog.
  6. I think sitting all day also added to the problem. My job is office based with occasional site visits etc. This past week not much was going on site because of the heavy rain and public holiday. So I was mostly sitting on my desk
  7. I had gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair last month. I was in surgery 4 hours, kept overnight and released the next day. I was up walking off the gas which was minimal and going to the bathroom with assistance but most of that first day I slept and rested. I also read all the horror stories so was surprised how well it all went. First week there was some pain but nothing that I felt was severe. Mainly just from standing up, sitting, bending etc. I think 2 days of help at home from your husband should be sufficient unless you encounter more pain than what is considered normal. As for dehydration or standing... they won't release you from the hospital if you can't keep water down or stand up. As least mine wouldn't. Good luck on the 15th!!!
  8. I have told not one single person that I had the surgery— I took off thursday to fly to Mexico, had surgery Friday, stayed in hospital two nights and flew home sunday. I drove myself home from hospital that night after 4 hour flight home- and took one day off work. I worked from home for a week- that’s it, but I have a job that allows for that anyway. I didnt need any extra care past those two hospital days- but I’ll admit i had no real pain and have a high tolerance for it if i do- but i took no pain meds at all. I’d had hysterectomy in November (my VSG was march 1) and knew the incisions wouldn’t be terrible. I probably just looked tired to my kids- but they pay no attention to me anyway, so there is that. (Teens). To date, they have not said a word about my weight changing either. LOL!
  9. My day is coming! I’m looking for some good book recommendations, or podcasts. I’ll have about a week and a half off and figure I need something to occupy my time and it’s been awhile since I read so…. What did y’all pack in your hospital bags? What didn’t you pack that you wish you did?

    March 23 buddies yet?

I'm really struggling with this. I haven't lost weight in weeks and I think it is because I always feel hungry. But its like a stomach growl and I think its growling out of hunger. Very frustrated with it.
  11. Thank you. Yes, I was just told if I’m 100% sure I’ve ate enough more than likely my body is just thirsty. Another thing I was told to monitor while eating is if I start to belch, hiccup, or nose starts run while eating that’s a sign that you’re getting full. I just said for this week I’m going to try setting my alarm for every two hours to do one of the following: eat, drink, snack, and walk. This is six weeks post ops and the first time I’ve ever felt this bad
  12. There is a saying that you loose 100 strands of hair per day, and I swear before surgery that was true for me. To avoid noticing it much since I have thin hair, one month post op I cut my hair from my hips to an inch or two below my shoulder. I can't really pin point when it did start, maybe 2 months post op and it doesn't seem so bad now, or maybe I'm just used to it by now. It does fall easily, I will run my fingers through my hair and a bunch comes out, but there is no specific spot and I do not think its noticeable to me or others if I'm loosing it. I always had those baby hair which is growth because my hair is brittle and breaks easily. I'm taking the recommended biotin and sometimes collagen, I was washing my hair once a week instead of the 3 times prior to surgery (now doing 2), and leave my hair loose or with a clip that's not too tight, goodbye messy bun lol.

    Are plastics worth it?

I've had multiple surgeries. Some in the states, one in Mexico. My in the states Tummy tuck was first. I was not that pleased. I lost my curve and looked like spongebob square pants. This was done in a surgical center. I was kicked out and sent home pretty quickly after surgery. Not the best experience. This was in 2015 My second surgery was covered by insurance. A breast reduction that was also performed in the states. I am surpised how small he made my breasts, but I've always hated them and wanted small breasts so I was happy. I did end up with dog ears and some keloid spots. I didn't have them addressed, but I'm told it's pretty simple to address both issues, so I may in the near future. This was done in a hospital. It was a more pleasant experience. I did go home the same day. This was in 2016 During COVID I gained 50 lbs and had bariatric surgery. Lost 60 lbs The third plastic surgery was a brazilliam butt lift. I had this surgery in January. I explained that I wanted lipo to try to give me my curve back and a natural looking butt. This was done in Mexico. I am absolutely amazed at this procedure. He lipo'd my back and flanks and extended tummy tuck? Basically gave me back my hourglass figure. He inserted the fat at my hips and butt. I stayed in the hospital for a week. I had round the clock nurses care. I didn't need it. I would have preferred being at home but I don't like staying in hotels/hospitals. I want to sleep in my bed. I found that they do specialize in weightloss patients and have a long waiting list. But cancellations occur and you can move up your date rather easily if you are flexible.

    May 2023 surgeries

Hey y'all! Congrats to all the new May surgeries! @ajrp001 we're surgery buddies! 😀 Haven't had much of a chance to hop on here the past few weeks. Between attending support groups, buying all the things I needed for before and after surgery, then getting things in order at home and church before my surgery took up more time than I expected. Surgery is now only 3 days away! I can't believe it! The anxiety is starting to really go up now! I finished my 12 day pre-op high protein/low carb diet yesterday and today I start my 3 day clear liquid diet. The pre op wasn't as easy as I thought it would be because I eat mostly vegetarian/no dairy due to allergies and trying to maintain the high protein while keeping carbs low was tougher than I thought. Now to survive 3 days of clear liquids only! I know it will be worth it in the end!
  15. I really appreciate the views here as I too live alone with my two cats. I've taken a couple of weeks from work and will work from home the third week. I'm hoping i will be ok to go in on the fourth week. I think planning in advance is essential - I plan to prepare a load of little meals in advance and freeze them and ensure I have my shakes and other bits in stock at home. I wont be lifting anything heavy and plan to take easy here on my own - I've just got the cats to feed and change the litter which I'll do slowly. I'm going to do my best to heed the advice regarding keeping my fluids up and if I feel 'funny', ill contact my medical team or emergency services. I had the gastric band fitted years ago (which was very successful until it had to be removed a year ago) and came home alone. I did not have cats then but was fine. Thank you for sharing - I feel more confident now
  16. My surgery is June 1st and I start my pre-op diet in 2 weeks. I am a lot less nervous now - just cant wait as my eating is out of control (I'm told by my surgical team this is normal at this stage). I had a gastric band for 16 years which was very successful. I had it removed last year and the weight has been climbing at great speed. I'm hoping my bypass will be just as successful - I am counting down the days guys. I cant wait to recommence doing the things I could physically do a year ago. Obesity is so cruel - I'm going to do all that I can to make this bypass work for me; I'm going to give it my all ❤️

    Best Post-Op gift ideas?

My biggest suggestion is to just be patient and supportive over the first few weeks...all those bodily changes can have some really, um...interesting effect on the mood! My mom got me a bunch of gift cards for clothes after my surgery and I appreciated it so much...after being overweight for years it was actually fun to go try and figure out what my personal style was when I wasn't as hamstrung by having to find the few items in the store that fit me. (19 months later I'm still trying to figure that out, but I'm learning!) Another suggestion for gifts might be a nice bariatric-friendly lunchbox or meal prep stuff for when he returns to work and starts eating a wider variety of foods. Having ways to transport your meals is important!
  18. Thanks for your feedback! 28,000 calories in just three days is insane even for the old me haha
  19. I had SADI surgery on 4/17/23. They were supposed to fix my hiatal hernia as well but didn’t get to it because they had to remove my gallbladder and they didn’t want me under any longer. Surgery took 4 hours. I had a previous sleeve surgery on May of 2021. I am experiencing a lot of gas pain that comes and goes. Does anyone have suggestions for dealing with gas pains. I do my walking but still have a lot of discomfort with pain. Does this get better? I go for my 2 week post op in 2 days.
  20. I live by myself too & was fine too. Friends & family rang every day to check on me. If you’d rather you could have your husband there just in case for a couple of days & then have him arrange with his work to have extra time if you find you need it or can leave work if you need it. Keep your fluids up. Get up & down slowly & carefully. No heavy lifting (usually less than 10lbs the first couple of weeks - check with your team). Keep meds, shakes, broths in a handy, easy to access location. Take short walks around your home or outside as you’re able. Rest. Listen to your body. All the best.
  21. A couple of weeks without your vitamins shouldn’t cause any problems. I mean some don’t start taking them for a month. It might only be an issue if your levels were already low. Like you won’t become anaemic unless your iron stores are low as well as your daily intake. The hair loss occurs because of stress (surgery, changed diet, etc.), hormonal fluctuations, anaesthetic & prolonged low protein intake (if you’re meeting your goal or getting closer to it in those first few weeks you’ll be okay). They cause your usual hair loss cycle to accelerate. Vitamins won’t stop the hair loss as that is dead hair you would have lost anyway. Vitamins may only benefit your new hair growth which isn’t affected by the surgery, etc.

    1 year after Sleeve surgery...

Funny you mention this @MandoGetsSleeved. Almost 4 years out & I experience odd things too. Like, the last couple of days, I’ve been having prawns for lunch. Now I often eat prawns for lunch but this time my restriction kicked in every time before I ate the number of prawns I’d usually eat. The pack of green prawns I bought was always two meals for me no problems. This time I got three meals out of it. I don’t rely on my restriction to signal to stop eating so this was strange. Plus I almost got the foamies yesterday. Don’t know why. Just an idiosyncrasy of my sleeve I think.

    Are plastics worth it?

I've known of several WLS people on the east coast who went to Dr. Capella in New Jersey (that is, if you're willing to travel - some people are, some aren't). All he does is body contouring for massive weight loss patients, and his prices are supposedly pretty reasonable for the New York area. I don't know what they're running now, though. https://www.capellaplasticsurgery.net/post-weight-loss-surgery/ (I actually traveled for mine - to Chicago - about two hours away - but I know people who've flown places to work with a nationally-known plastic surgeon (and Dr. Capella is one)). Also on the east coast who's nationally known is Dr. Joseph Michaels in the DC area (I think he's affiliated with Johns Hopkins University). But again, that'd mean traveling, of course, I've known several WLS patients who've gone to him https://www.josephmichaelsmd.com/ a lot of these really well-known surgeons will do consults over the phone (you'd have to send them pictures so they know what they'd be dealing with) - not sure about these two, but I'm guessing they do). Also, most plastic surgeons will charge you for a consult - maybe $100 or so - but they take that off your surgery if you go with them. I had three in Chicago and one from a surgeon in Mexico - the Chicago ones all charged for the consult, but I felt is was money well spent.
  24. Dear all! First, a big contrats to all for doing the surgery for your own health and good. I hope you will all arrive at the desired results sooner than later and that the post-op phase will be as smooth as possible. My boyfriend is having his surgery in a few weeks and i want to give him a post-op gift for being brave through this process. Nothing too big or expansif, but something thoughtful and hopefully useful for after the surgery. I have a few ideas...currently, I'm hesitating between the following: A nice summer/light bath robe and assorted slippers so he can be comfy after the surgery and not need to dress up A gift card from his favorite clothing store, cause he will probably need to buy a new wardrobe What would you prefer? Any other gift ideas? I will also be there for him throughout the whole process, hospital stay, prepare the meals and help out as much as i can. Is there anything you would recommend on that level? Things to do / say, not do/ not say etc. All the best to all - and thank you for your help! b
  25. it was the pickles. Yes - sodium makes some people retain water like crazy. Plus there is no way you'd gain 3.7 kg of real weight in three days. To do that, you would have to eat 28,000 more calories than your body needs in those three days. So yea, no. It's just water.
