I am so sorry your surgery had complications. I had a sleeve to bypass revision for GERD on 6/29. I was unable to stand up to begin walking without becoming tachycardic and dizzy on 7/1. My hemoglobin was 7.1 and I got 2 units of packed red cells. I felt much better afterward. My drain was left in for 10 days as I continued to produce a lot of blood from the chest. My surgeon suspects I bled from several areas as I had more than one procedure done. I feel much better now. I hope you feel better soon, you have been through a lot.

Yes I'm from Chicago, my doctor is dr.lufti, he did my lapband so I consulted with him may 1st about revision surgery, I had my hopes on the gastric bypass, but he wants to do the sleeve. I have a day long appt at his office on next Wednesday to get a trans nasal endoscopy, psych and nutritionist. I hope that I will not be much longer than that! I'm ready to do this surgery. -
Hi there, I am scheduled for my surgery on July 1st (revision from lapband to plication) so I can answer alot of your questions. Two questions: 1) What is NSV? no scale victory - 2) Does anyone have extremely serious regrets for having the surgery? well even with having to have a revision on my band - I don't regret it - lost 170 lbs - gained back 50lbs due to an enlarged pouch - but will have the plication and get back to my lowest weight in no time. Hope this was helpful. Donna in Seattle surgery lap band 3/2003 - scheduled for plication on July 1st with OCC TJ 310/145/200 and counting down again!

New To The Site In Serious Pain :(
Cocoabean replied to Krussell19's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It sounds a whole lot like a slipped band, but odd that the swallow didn't show it. Perhaps the unfill triggered a full on slip somehow if something has changed more since then? If it were me, I'd be going back and wanting more answers or a revision to another procedure. Do you have one of the older 4cc bands? -
What Was Your Starting Weight?
marfar7 replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Starting weight pre band 4 yrs ago was 248. Start weight pre revision 12 wks ago was 174. Current is 155. Goal is 130. Going sloooowwwww..... -
I just had band revision on monday, as my band had slipped. interestingly though I didnt have reflux. I simple had significant discomfort when I ate food and it progressed to pain even when i drank liquids. I was shocked that I really slipped because I had no reflux at all. So I guess you can have a band slip without reflux. :phanvan

No typical day either. While I am almost 1.5 years after my revision (gerd), and I still feel like a noobie lol.... I had WLS back in 2008 so it's been awhile for me too.

Dr. Fernando Garcia
Kristina J. replied to Jarrod1997's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Scheduled for a band to sleeve revision with Dr. Garcia (Ready 4A Change) and getting excited/anxious/nervous. Was scheduled for 4/25 but had to switch to May 3rd for my husband's work schedule. It's wonderful to hear SO many people who had a great experience. I can't say much for the experience quite yet, but to say that Alma is a rockstar!!! She is like lightening returning emails and always has all the answers!! Love her!!! Did anyone on this thread have a revision from band to sleeve with Dr. Garcia? I'd love to hear more about your experience if so!!! Either through post or PM, I'd just like to hear from someone who's had a revision with him since there's a little more involved Thanks!!! -
Thanks Ms. sss - it certainly is a tough call. I paid $16,000 in 2009 for the lap band that is now being taken out. MGB will be an additional $19,000. Believe me, I am all for investing in myself but its a hard pill to swallow if it is only for another 5-10 years. The trend seems to be after a certain amount of time, people are following low cal, exercise, feel like they are starving themselves and nothing is happening. Weirdly enough, weight gain is my least worry. Sure, it will frustrate me, but any medical complications scare the bejesus out of me! I'm hearing ulcers and yet more revisions? I'm 50 now; I don't really want to be having surgeries in my 60's and 70's when the risks become greater. My surgeon/clinic provides support etc for 5 years. I think that says a lot as well. Its not lifetime. One side of me says, just do it - you have read enough to know it will help you stay on a healthy lifestyle. And the other says, get a personal trainer and have him/her weigh you in 3 days/week to be accountable. I don't have to make the decision today. I am grateful for site's like these that can assist in decision making. Back in 2009 there wasnt much support for the lap band.

March into Formation March Sleevers! Roll Call...
kakaw replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
lol I go to Mexico for a few reasons #1 is the quality of care I get....amazing! #2 the experience of my surgeon. Dr.Aceves has done plenty of revisions from lapband to sleeve. #3 the price, it is several thousands less expensive. It would be $20 000+ where I live, plus a very very long wait. Dr.Aceves is half what I would pay here -
August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far
valstar replied to MissNilsa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So O.K., I need a kick in the butt too! I have been doing so well, workingout 5 times a week and eating right all day and then at 9:30 at night, I start to feel like I need to snack! I graze on this and that and I jknow it destroys all the work I have done all day! This is the hard part for me because everyone is talking about how good I look and how much weight I have lost and I begin to feel like I can ease up for just a moment. I deserve it. That is the behavior that had nme gain weight year after year! I'm with you Pizz and Bad I am putting a moratorium on everything not on the list. I am 5 lbs from my revised, revised 6 month goal and I am 9 days out. I go in for my 6 month post op on Mar 4 so that gives me a few extra days to knock off these 5 lbs. Well, I had to get that out! I'm going to bed to save myself from food! Val -
is there any way you can get revision surgery to a sleeve? With a sleeve, you have restriction without worrying about fills ever again. Do some research on the vertical gastric sleeve, if there is any possible way to have your band taken out and get the sleeve surgery.

Sleeved and at home recuperating!
Armygalbonnie replied to Dinks97420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was the first question I asked regarding surgery Drains? Fortunately, my Dr only uses them on those patients that are having revisions. I've had 5 drains in the past, and it is the worst pain EVER!!! I'm glad your are OUT and you are on the road to recovery. Best of luck with everything! Oh and BTW, Happy Birthday! -
From Denial to Appeal to Approval
allies journey replied to CharlotteWebb's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for responding to my post and I will definitely appeal if I get turned down. I have my surgeon and my gastrointestinal doctor fighting for my revision surgery so hopefully it will be resolved quickly. I hate being on so many meds for 1 problem and the meds are not working properly now so I'm desperate to find a solution. Thanks again. Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Sleeve to...? Revision seeker
Circlesis replied to redhead_che's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey I revised to DS 4 weeks ago tomorrow. I was 6 years out from sleeve. Insurance paid as it was treated as a new surgery and so I just had to do a regular qualification. No diets or anything, just whatever the insurance required. I think it took about 6 or 7 weeks to get scheduled from my initial consult. Do you know what procedure you are leaning toward? -
Sleeve to...? Revision seeker
cyndeelouwho replied to redhead_che's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Could someone who has had the DS Loop tell me about this? I had a gastric bypass in 1980, due to regain I want to get a revision. I'm not sure what kind of surgery is possible after so long. I know I have a lot of scar tissue built up. I don't know if anything can be done. If anyone else has had this please let me know thank you in advance. I posted the attachment for the difference on a thread under Insurance I titled: Aetna Revises Policy downward from 5 years to 2 Years! Check out the attached pages that compare the old Aetna clinical policy bulletin to the new one they just posted on their website with a revision date of Feb 8, 2008 -- reduced the time for severe obesity wording from "at least 5 years" to "at least the last 2 years" . This was the ONLY change I could find in comparing the whole document with regard to anything to do with Lapband surgery qualifications.

My revision was overnight stay. Insurance approved 3-4 days. But I did great and wanted to be in my own bed. Oh, and the band removal and RNY was all one surgery. Took 2 hrs. 5 laparoscopic incisions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

In defense of the surgeons, I think one of the reasons doctors either don't tell you (some warn you of minimal weightloss) that a revision due to gerd often results in minimal weightloss is because to them, it isn't about the weight to them, it is to fix your gerd. You can't live a quality life suffering from severe gerd day in and day out. I couldn't sleep at night and during the day towards the end, I had to have food constantly in my stomach or the knawing feeling in my stomach would never go away, and my throat literally burned all day no matter what. It was miserable.

Revision
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Tina Tiff 1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
There are therapists that specialize in bariatric therapy. They help the patient manage expectations, emotions, dealing with head hunger, etc... It's actually a really good idea. Many of us on here have used them at one time or another. I have to have a revision and while I'm concerned about the rate of loss, I'll be honest, I mostly just want to feel better. I had my sleeve in May 2022 and I've lost 108 pounds. I still have 80 pounds to go to get to goal. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing with my diet and working out, and it may take longer than it did now, but I know I'll get there. You will, too. Just keep in mind that stalls happen a lot, 25 pounds lost in 6 weeks in excellent, and just stick religiously to your surgeon's plan and you'll get there in the end. The main goal is better health, anyway. -
Yes I had it out May 8th. I was in the hospital 8 days due to an infection. They also thought I had a leak so went back in for surgery on the third day to check around for a leak but apparently there wasn't one. They put drains in on the second surgery and I got a lot better after that. I have lost 38lbs since may. Day of surgery I was 216. Now I am 178 and half way to goal. I have lost 53lbs all together since January when I started the revision process from a high weight of 231. It's the best thing I ever did!

I had revision on 6/18 due to many of the same reasons as you. I'm glad I switched and love my sleeve so far. I have Kaiser and am glad I didn't have to go thru all the hops to get approved. Since we had 3 years of documented testing, issues etc that was enough to get it approved and paid for.
