  1. Week 1: Clear Liquids Week 2: "Full" liquids (which are just thicker like Protein shakes) Week 3 pureed foods ( you could protein in a blender and drink it. Yuck, I stayed on full liquids. Week 4: Mushies: scrambled eggs, cottage cheese. I followed the first two weeks fairly strictly, Third week I stayed on full liquids a few extra days and then one or two meals a day, I started to slowly add things like tomato Soup, scrambled eggs. By week four, I has turkey meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green Beans eaten very slowly and well chewed. At almost seven weeks out and just after second fill, I still eat mostly soft food and still drink a meal here or there, to get my protein in. My diet right now consists of mainly, Protein drinks, soft lean cuisines ( like meatloaf) scrambled eggs, salmon, turkey meatloaf, green beans, some Soups and yogurt. I am careful right now since I just got a fill and trying to figure out what my band will tolerate right now. I also track my calories and protein daily.

    Not eating enough

I'm right with you on not getting your protein in. I'm 4 weeks post op and I'm stuggling big time. I'm lucky if I get 40 gms of protein a day and as for water, I'm only getting about 32 oz a day. I usually start my day with a premier protein drink which I only can drink 2/3 of one. I then start sipping my water about 40 minutes later but I'm still full from the shake so I dont' get much water in. I usually have lunch about 4 hours later and then I'm full for the rest of the day. I have to force some yogurt or cottage cheese down but that still doesn't bring my protein intake up much. I'm getting frustrated and hoping I'll be able to eat more at some point. Oh, also strugging with the b-vitamins. They sour my stomach. ARGH!!!
  3. GreenTealael

    Fiber insoluble vs soluble

I have a dry gallon of them on my counter (they have been there for 6 months no issue -1/3 of the way done now) so I add them to everything, dry.I cook then into bean dishes, falafel, salmon croquettes, smoothies, on yogurts, in salads. I add a dry sprinkling to almost everything (they fluff up quickly depending on the food it's added to) that hempseed, and tumeric goes into almost everything I eat. VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167
  4. I was also told not to lift anything heavier than about 5lbs for 3 months. Or lift weights or do abdominal exercises. Walking and light arm weights for exercises are fine...the little ones! Also, due to infflamation you should have some restriction...I know i s till do have some and it has been since Nov, 7! I am just now getting down a few very mushy foods, but mostly still on anything I can drink through a straw. I do not feel real hunger because I am eating lots of Protein now,,,I add extra Protein powder to my shakes. smoothies and smoothie ice creams that I make. I also add protein to unsweetened yougurt and a bit of fruit and stevia to sweeten...yummy and good for you! If you can get the low fat greek style yogurt it feels like you are really sinning! I also have added a bit of powdered unsweetened cocoa powder to yougurt or smoothies and feel like I am sinning , but I am not! So now that I am at 60 grms of protein or a bit more...I feel good:clap2: Also, I am using a baby spoon to eat these things and it takes time and I feel satisfied. Anything too chunky I still cannot eat...and I am not supposed to... so hang in there you will do great!
  5. Hi I To Used Dr. Spivak. He Made Me Wait 1 Month Before My First Fill. Before That I Felt I Had Liitle If No Restriction. I Even Had A Slice Of Pizza. But Then I Had A Fill 1.3 The First Time In A 4cc Band. Always Ask How Much In Your Fill. It Worked Good After About Three Days. It Was Tight And I Was Limited In How Much I Ate. Yogurt. Cream Of Wheat Vegetables. Then 7 Weeks Later I Had Another Fill. I Asked His Assitant To Be A Little Aggressive With The Fill Since I Had Only Lost 16 Pounds. From 217 To 201. She Granted My Wish And Again After A Few Days I Was Extremly Tight. Only Able To Drink Shakes And Soup Or Creamed Veggies. I Know Some To Not Think This Is A Good Idea But My Daughters Wedding Was In 6 Months So I Really Wanted It. I Am So Happy That I Did. It Was Not Up Until Then Did I Realise That Before I Did Eat Alot During The Day. Grazing. I Really Believed I Did Not Eat That Much. I Also Learned To Chew My Food And Eat Very Slow. I Also Learned What Slim Means An Pb Means . I Am Down 71 Pounds With Only 6 More To Goal Weight And I Have Done It Since Jan. 25,2006 I Really Thank Dr. Spivak For His Help

    Weak/tired/bloated

I’m on day 5 post op and I agree it is major surgery similar to what I experience having my gall bladder out or a c-section. I am doing things little by little and feeling better everyday but need to take tests in between and focus on healing and how my new stomach communicated with me. I’m on phase two which means I can introduce yogurt but I’m scared and still on liquid proteins. I don’t have hunger like I used to although my stomach does have another sensation that comes and goes... trying to figure out if it’s too much liquid, it’s empty or it’s just shocked I’m putting something in it:)
  7. Greetings Coexister, i does seem that I am not a dumper either because I’ve tested this several times. I did get a bad reaction from drinking whole milk kefir. I got a stomachache. I wonder is this a form of dumping syndrome? When I drank low fat or non fat kefir, I absolutely had no problems with the kefir. However, when I had a frozen yogurt, I didn’t experience any sickness in my physical body. In terms of losing weight, for the last three weeks, I have stayed the same weight. I haven’t gained or loss weight. I guess that’s a good thing. You know something, Coexister? I have often wondered if my Bariatric Surgeon actually did the RYGB on me. My recovery is very similar to when I got the VGS in 2016. I control my snacking by putting everything I eat in my dietary journal. My dietitian gave me a calorie target and I rarely go above my calorie target. If there’s a particular snack I want to have, I budget for it within my calorie budget. I also read these forums for insight and inspiration as everyone that uses these forums have pearls of wisdom to offer each other. I have no regrets that I proceeded to revision to the RYGB because I my weight is coming down again and I have no more GERD & heartburn anymore. I also can’t risk get throat cancer from the hideous GERD I suffered from before I had my RYGB. 😃 I am six weeks post op and today was my first day back on solid food. I’m going back on solid food slowly - introducing each new food slowly back into my diet.

    Whats happening ?

Potato chips and corn chips are no longer a slider for me. I'm too tight for them to be a slider. No matter how much I chew them up they cause pain. I think sometimes it is a texture thing too. Anything that will melt like icecream or chocolate is for sure a slider. I do not avoid all sliders or I would suffer from malnutrition or starvation. My band is pretty tight and even tighter in the mornings. Some foods that may be considered sliders are on my regular menu......yogurt, cream of wheat, soup ...... I just try to stay away from the high cal. ones like icecream.
  9. Im so frusterated im on my 3rd week out from surgery, The first week I got on the scale and was exstatic to see that i lost 9.6 lbs. the second week I got on the scale and was a little disapointed to see a 2.6 lb loss im in the middle of my third week now and weighed myself tonight (my official weigh ins are every friday but i just was curious) and i actually gained 2 lbs. I feel so frusterated, i knew that i would stall like almost everyone else does but i wasnt expecting it so soon, nor was i expecting to gain weight. I feel so embarassed my mom who paid for my surgery is coming to visit me tomorrow and she hasnt seen my since before the surgery she hasnt said anytthing but i know that shes expecting to see me noticably skinner, i feel like im failing myself and my family. Im just sitting here telling myself that this whole thing was too good to be true and im just going to stay this way forever. I cant stop crying im so mad at myself. I know everyone says oh dont worry it will come off but i just feel convinced that its just not guna work for me. I am getting in all my protein Im drinking all my water im going to the gym Today for example I had 2 oz of yogurt for breakfast a couple bites of chicken for lunch and a few more bites of chicken for dinner. and then a protien drink. I dont feel like im eating too much I just dont know what im doing wrong or if im just supposed to be in this body forever. I feel like im letting everyone down and im so depressed any advice?
  10. I must admit - I am in a funk; tired of some of the foods I eat - actually I feel exhausted by food alone. Tired of thinking about what I should eat, how it will affect my now fragile stomach. I am exhausted from concern of how much weight I have lost - or if I will gain in back -weary about what will and will not fit and should I sell it or give it away. I have shopped in every store in the area for new cuter clothes; I am bored with them all. This is the one place I feel safe in letting these feelings go and I know soon I will feel better and get back to the contentment of my new much healthier life - but today; I want to eat a big meal with my friends again, want to drink Coors Light on the beach till I fall asleep in the sun. I am sure all of the seasoned sleevers know what I am talking about - I know those of you who have not yet reached this point may think I am being ridiculous - but we all know this excursion would be one of mixed emotions; and it truly is. I am going to grab a yogurt now - take a walk in my size 14 yoga pants (the size 24's are a thing of the past) and just try to sort it all out- Thank you for listening.

    Having hard time sleeping

Nope. You didn't hurt anything. Next time you want to try foods, stick with the next foods on your list. Try a little oatmeal or yogurt....leave the pecans for a while down the road:)

    Omeprazole?

We were told to put capsule contents in applesauce, but I also sprinkle the beads in a teaspoon of yogurt.

    So Discouraged....

Rlocke, Hang in there. It is a long race and remember we are just at the beginning! I was sleeved at the end of Dec., so I am bit further out than you. I probably eat a bit more carbs that is ideal, but I make sure all of my food is as healthy as possible. Most days I have 1/2 yogurt & 1/2 cottage cheese, then for lunch usually tuna, but today I had 5 think ham slices with one wedge of laughing cow cheese, then I roll them up. They are yum. Tonight I plan to have swai (fish) and roasted veggies. I always save myself a late night treat of either a sf fudge pop or sf popsicle. I have lost about 30 so far, but only lose about 1-2 pounds a week at this point.

    Irritated please help.

What you are eating is not the proper nutrition for the band. I work 12 hour shifts too but those processed foods (lean cuisine) are not going to help you lose weight. You need to eat more protein and not eat at 9 oclock at night. I have scrambled eggs, or greek yogurt for breakfast, a protein bar with no sugar in it around 10, veggie burgers or some chicken or tuna salad for lunch and yes I eat my dinner at work around 5 which is of protein sorts. You need to add substance to your diet. You are eating too little and no enough protein in order to lose weight. Again those processed foods wil sabotage you every time. On the days you are off cook stuff and freeze it so you can take it to work with you. You really need to not eat at 9 oclock at night its too late. Your body needs 12 hours to burn a days worth of calories so you wont gain but lose. These are just my suggestions. You have to make time to eat through out the day and cook for yourself on your days off to have lunch for work not tv dinners.
  19. Hello everyone! I have been lurking on on this forum for about a year or so, and it's been invaluable for learning about the procedure so thanks to all you that have been contributing your experiences and ideas. I was sleeved outpatient on Thursday and went back Friday for a quick check-up, and it seems my progress is so far so good. I'm excited to have my sleeve, but at the same I don't think I have fully processed it yet - it's not like getting a boob job or lipo, you can't process it immediately but I'm sure when the lbs fall off I will "get it" I was on clears Thursday, mainly ice chips on Thurs since even swallowing Water was very uncomfortable. Due to the anti-nausea patch I also had the world's driest mouth, it was disgusting! The hotel i stayed at overnight had a free continental Breakfast so I decided to have some heavily diluted apple cider, it was nice to have something that tasted nice after only tasting the disgusting liquid oxycodone the day before. I also grabbed a few skim milks, caffeine-free tea bags and light yogurts to bring home for the next week Today I just had my first Protein drink, a scoop of Optimum Nutrition Double Rich chocolate in 8 oz of skim milk, it's relatively tasty so I'm happy with it! The worst part of my experience are kind of random: it took about four people to get an IV in me - I've known from having to do labs that I have the world's worst veins, but apparently securing a vein for IV is a lot more challenging. They brought in the anesthesiologist and fifth time was a charm, he managed to find a teeny tiny vein in my right wrist that worked for most of the time. I went back the next day to get more fluids and unfortunately the IV popped out a couple of times. The first time they put it back in but then when it started leaking again they spoke with the Dr, who said that I was healthy enough to just get my fluids the old-fashioned way (thank goodness, I hate being a pincushion). Also, I have gotten a few bouts of hiccups, which are very aggravating and painful when they come right after surgery...the Dr I spoke with suggested that I take my valium and alternate between sipping hot and cold liquids. Don't really know the science behind it but I've been hiccup-free today so I'm happy. So anyway, I'm very excited for the future! I had some second thoughts when I was thinking about the sleeve...food has been such an important part of my life (which goes for many others here I'm sure) so I went though almost a mourning period thinking about all the things I couldn't do, like each a McD's happy meal, Indian buffets or an entire Chipotle burrito. Then I guess it clicked with me that I did have a choice - I could eat all that stuff if I wanted to, the tradeoff would be that I would die early from health complications or maybe develop diabetes which would restrict what I could eat anyway. So why not get out ahead of all these things and take the initiative to lose the weight before life forces that upon me? I'll try to participate here more, there's so much insight about post-op care, sustaining weight loss and activity, can't wait to be a "loser" with the rest of you!
  20. I like this recipe my nut gave me: 1 cup part skim ricotta add grated lemon peel, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 Splenda packet. Mix it up and separate into 2 portions. I like this as a dessert. Good protein. I do like the eggface site. She has awesome recipes and she also recommends the SF Torani syrups which I hope to try soon. Maybe you could use the syrups with plain Greek yogurt to make it more appealing.
  21. Go back to liquids only for 5 days then to light foods, yogurts, Soups, small bites of food for another 5 days. YOU will lose weight get the pouch to get smaller and continue on your journey. WE all drop off being strict on our diets, but just adjust when you discover what you are doing. Lapband doesn't change our old brains & memories of all the good but bad foods we ate in our past. Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

    Anyone sleeve to bypass?

I had the sleeve done 4 years ago. Lost 115 pounds. Gained about 20 pounds over the last year. I ended up with severe GERD, hiatal hernia and gallstones that cause severe pain. 9/6 I had the surgeries to fix all that which includes the bypass. It's been an interesting month. The healing process is different. Food going down too fast will definitely be coming back up (vomiting). Anything not chewed will be coming back up. Premier protein is smooth enough to stay down. Soups like French onion, chicken noodle (minute the noodles) veggie soup. Salmon. 2 good Yogurt and high protein high fiber oatmeal. Stays down for me. It's a big adjustment. I know that this is just a phase that we go through. I can eat boiled eggs now too. Eat slowly-chew slowly-swallow slowly. Drink 60 ounces of water. Follow the doctors orders. You'll loose weight I've seen people successfully keep the weight off with both. They stick to the high protein/low carb and don't eat anything they did before ( that made them obese....like breads, maccoroni, rice, flour, sugar, fried foods). How are you all managing constipation? That's been interesting. Take care and give yourselves room to adjust. Things will get better. We make the best of the tool ( bypass) and it will work for us. Everything will workout for the greater good. We deserve healthy and happy lives and we embrace them daily.
  23. Lol thanks! This definitely put a smile on my face even though a lot of what you just said kind of scares the crap out of me! I LOVE myself some dunkies and or marylous! I recently started doing the sugar free shots not swirls and skim milk or sugar free creamer at home.. (They have me starting to get ready for what life's going to be like after surgery) everything I a huge change. I'm doing pretty good so far. Can I express how proud I am of myself for a moment? 1. I drank Mountain Dew faithfully for 12 years I'm talking 24 packs in a day! I've been Mountain Dew clean for almost 4-5 months now! I drink only Water and one coffee a day! Forced myself! I can't imagine it any other way now! 2. I have been a smoker since I was 6 years old (discussing I know! I have older nephews so if I smokes with them they knew I couldn't snitch on them!) I couldn't inhale until I was 8 but either way.. I'm 30 now.. I haven't had a cigarette in a week now!!! I don't even really care! That's the shocking part! I think I'm to concerned with my eating to think about smoking lol 3. I used to lay in bed and feel sorry for myself not move at all. Hence being almost 400lbs at one point I've been moving more even little things I have stairs that lead up to the bathroom... I so ten push-ups off the stairs before I can pee lmao and I have three kids all under 5 so.. Enough said there. I do jump and jacks with my 4 year old ( or what I consider to be jump and jacks ) I have cheated on this diet a little bit but when I've cheated it's been two extra pieces of celery or an extra scoop of low fat Greek yogurt.. Not an extra bowl of Pasta with extra sauce and bacon and chicken like used to. I'm proud of me Thank you for listening to my rant and thanks for all the advice!! I'm going crazy over here cuz I don't even know if they are going to give me a date yet! I'm still waiting! All I know is they put me on this diet and she said it's what I will be on for the rest of my life after surgery basically (minus the time I'm on the liquid diet) I just want a date now! I need to know!! I think I'm more nervous not knowing if I will get a date... I need this! I need to live and stick around for my kids!

I have Celiac and was sleeved 11 months ago. One of my favorite foods is Subway????. I order a turkey sub without the bread. They put it in a salad bowl for me and I eat it with a knife & fork.
