Any June 2018 Sleevers in Here?!

I started full liquids yesterday and I haven't had any trouble drinking an 11 oz protein shake or eating 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt, so I think we're both doing fine.
  2. So it’s getting very real, did my pre-op appointment today. Signed everything I needed to sign giving them permission to perform my surgery. I am only required to be on my liquid diet for 10 days. Down side(s): 1) found out that I didn’t need the isopure after ordering the isopure that my nutritionist insisted that I needed 🤦🏽‍♀️ 2) I have to take lovenox injections. I absolutely HATE needles so I have no idea how I’m gonna pull off injections for 10 days. I have ONE more appointment before surgery. On the 20th I go to the hospital to meet with the Anesthesiologist. After that I am all set! Oh and my pre-op diet is three protein shakes and two 100 calorie yogurts a day. Doable, I happen to like protein shakes 🤷🏽‍♀️. Anyway, that was my update. Sorry about being long winded, lol

15 days post op and can drink 11oz of Protien Shake

I came on here with the exact same question as OP, and this is just what I needed to hear. I was worried about not feeling much restriction with full liquids like Premier Protein or yogurt. Thanks!

    June RNY buddies?

@Hal711 - Love your mantra and thinking about it as I watch the clock. 5 more minutes till lunch. HAHA! I have a couple options for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Yogurt and Cottage Cheese can be combined with 3 oz. of Turkey, Fat Free Ham or Chicken for lunch or dinner. I just eat really slow and savor each bite.

    Need to GAIN weight

I don’t have suggestions for a drink but I will say if you normally eat low fat, or reduced calorie items maybe try eating the full calorie version. So if you normally eat low fat cottage cheese, swap for 4% milk fat. If you normally eat no fat yogurt, find some whole milk variety. Add some healthy nuts in your diet if you tolerate them. Things like that could help you maintain maybe?

Wow pearldrop you're doing great with water. I am really jealous of your daily coffee. I can have decaf in 3 days. It's starting to be a long time, especially because I feel so low energy. I am on semi-liquid now so I am allowed soft rice crispies in milk for breakfast. I have 1/2 cup of protein shake for snack or yogurt and soup for lunch or dinner. I also like frozen shakes for dessert or snack. Sent from my LG-H831 using BariatricPal mobile app

8 days post HELP ME PLEASE

Everyone seems to have variations in what their doctor/hospital recommends for post op diet. I was told to stay away from dairy and milk products until day 10 because they cause nausea and stomach upset. I'm wondering if the dairy in the yogurt and protein shakes are giving you these issues. Buy some flavored electrolytes to put in your water. They help when you have the runs and are not getting that much liquid - also help even out blood pressure.
  8. Each plan is different. Not all plans require soups to be strained. Mine plan for instance was full liquids once discharged from the hospital. The rule was anything that would go through a straw. So I made soup, pureed, but did not strain. I was also allowed yogurt, pudding, and other very soft foods during the liquid stage. So just because your surgeon requires this program does not mean that others will stress their stomachs or threaten the "seal". As long as everyone follows their surgeons plan, it's all good.
  9. Hi BrookeR - 5 days post op and I have been wondering the same thing. I haven't even felt hungry until yesterday. So, I had a 1/4 c cottage cheese. No problem, no nausea. Then I had yogurt - again no problem. This morning I made instant oatmeal with protein powder and cinnamon - ground it up in a small grinder first even though the oats were instant - poured on almond milk and it was awesome. I'm not supposed to have it until stage 2 of diet. So now I am wondering - if I did damage to my sleeve, how would I know? I feel fine. The only problem I've had through this whole thing is that, if I do like a little bit of housework then go to take a shower, I become exhausted - no heavy lifting but a lot of stairs to climb. I have a desk job so I was thinking of going back to work - 6 days post op but then I wonder if I'll get tired there. I've lost 14 lbs in 5 days. Also, I'm 62 years old so maybe it's just because I'm an "older" sleever - have to give myself injections to prevent blood clots for two weeks - but I am amazed that there hasn't been more problems! I hope I didn't screw up by going of the plan!
  10. Liquid stage of my post op diet only lasted a week. After that we'd add one thing at a time to see how it agrees with us. We started with things like strained cream soup, yogurt, thin cream of wheat....then moved to soft foods like cottage cheese, tuna, potato. As your tolerance improves and time goes on, you add different things, take it slow, chew well, and see how you tolerate them. You don't really jump from just fluids to some fantasy meal you like...LOL. There's a whole lot of....Yay! I ate refried beans and an avacado slice today....inbetween. Some stuff takes longer to eat comfortably. Bread was hard for a long time. Six months out, I can eat it comfortably, but for months it was awful. Fibrous meats...baked chicken, steak, chops....took a little longer, too. For a while, it's all about texture and little teenie quantities. In truth, your first "real meal" might be about a quarter to a half a cup total.....hopefully with a few good bites of protein in there.
  11. I’m one week post op. (June 4). I’m sipping flavored water alternating with protein drink all day. I have small amts yogurt, SF jello and SF popsicles. I know I’m not getting enough protein and hydration. I’m having no nausea and tolerating everything well and have lost about 6 pounds since date of surgery. BUT I’M HUNGRY??!! I thought the sleeve would kick out my hunger - when does it start?!!

Hello, I am eating jello and yogurt so far. My throat is still sore from the incurbation so swallowing is a challenge but it is getting better. I have my 1st week follow-up tues. also I’m not hungry. what are eating?

    Diarrhea post op

I had the same issue. I cut it out for a few weeks and then was able to add it back in with some success. I can’t have too much (yogurt is right out but cottage cheese is okay). The reality is I just can’t eat that much anyway as opposed to my pre surgery dairy trigger and so I just don’t get the reaction. Unless of course I drink a protein shake /water that is whey based.

    Hunger pains after surgery

That's interesting, especially since our surgery date is similar. I have found that mine only makes noises when I feed it something it doesn't handle well. i.e. solid proteins - lots of gurgle and churn. Yogurt, soups, etc. - quiet as a mouse.
  15. My loss has been quite fast (I think) for a post-menopausal woman. I'm 3.5 months out and down 52 since surgery. But I'm not tolerating any solid protein except fish and so I'm really still in the soft foods stage: lots of yogurt, soup, stews. It is a big day for me to hit 800 calories, I've only hit 1000 once. But most of my loss was the first 8 weeks. It's been slow-going since then. Can't complain, with all my previous diets I'd stall out between 35-40 pounds and then start going back up again.

What does your typical day look like?

I'm a sleeve person...wrote this up on another post. My clinic sets a goal of 1200 calories and 60+ grams of Protein per day during weight loss phase. We can either eat three 400 calorie meals, or six 200 calorie meals...or any combination we'd like as long as net calories are 1200 per day. I personally prefer to do three tiny meals during the day, a bigger meal for dinner, and another tiny meal around 8pm (usually it's got a desert vibe, like fruit or cupcake yogurt, or a chocolate protein bar.) This is how my day usually works: (with a few different meal options...I like to mix it up a lot...variety is necessary!) 200 calorie Breakfast (oatmeal and coffee with Protein Shake for creamer/an egg and half a slice of whole grain toast/fruit and yogurt/etc) 200 lunch ( 3 ounces of pork chop or chicken breast with green beans/sweet potatoe with pecans and salad/BLT wrap/chef salad with hard boiled egg/homemade veggie Soup and slice of homemade bread) 200 midday snack (protein muffin/half a cup of potato salad/veggie and hummus/etc) 400 dinner (Crab boil/steak salad with eggs and swiss/protien Pasta with salad and homemade wholegrain bread/chicken stir fry/stuffed pepper/ vegetarian chili and cheese on a baked potato/etc) 200 after dinner snack (strawberries with chocolate sauce/watermellon/frozen grapes/cupcake yogurt/oatmeat with pecans and cherries/chocolate protein bar) I like a little sweet after dinner, and usually do this after I finish my 12,000 steps for the day...sort of my reward. I eat a lot of really satisfying delicious food. I'm getting an education about portions and making healthier choices. I'm eating a ton of fruits and veggies, lean Proteins and complex carbs. I LOVE my diet. I feel better on it. Tons of energy. Exercise is a big part of my day, too...and I have the energy to enjoy doing it. I drink at least 64 ounces of fluid a day. I have been in the habit of drinking all day and paying attention to drinking a lot because I used to take a diuretic and dehydration has been a risk. Water goes in the car with me anywhere I drive. I drink steadily anytime I'm at my desk or at home. Coffee, tea, lots of iced tea and Mio recently, herbal tea, water, etc. If my pee is darker? I drink like crazy. I typically walk 4000 steps by noon, 8000 by 5pm, and get a full 12,000 by bedtime. 1am? I do a variety of cardio activities....an hour, three times a week. (in addition to the walking) Weight loss has been slow and steady:) Getting close to goal:) Loving life:) PS...I'm a sleeve, not a bypass...but figured so much of this is universal it couldn't hurt to add to the conversation.

    No energy!

I’ve been doing a higher carb breakfast & protein after throughout the day. Try a banana & some good Greek Yogurt for breakfast. Also if you don’t have MyFitnessPal give it a try. You can but in your daily goals for calories carbs protein & fat. I track EVERYTHING on it including exercise & vitamins. Hope that helps. It’s worked for me getting in the right amount of protein carbs & fat is a huge energy regulator.

  19. Let me say hello! My surgery is scheduled for the 26th of this month. After six months of doing the nutritional visits, doctor visits, etc. I am not excited nor do I feel down about getting the surgery... to be honest, I just want to get it over with. I think I may have seen doctors 20 or more times. lungs, Cardiovascular, 2 or more trips back to both doctors, xrays , testing, nutritionist and so on. Everything turned out ok . Lost about 10lbs, started my diet early. Now I have these weird questions... If your stomach is stapled, if you laugh or cough too hard will that cause issues with the staples? What about scar tissue, I am a poster child for internal scar tissue. I wonder if that could cause a problem, later on down the line? OK, so Im starting the sipping thing too, it takes me like 15/20 min to finish an 8oz protein shake , is that right? I'm not supposed to start the liquid diet until the 11th I currently take 2 protein shakes, bfast & lunch, banana and low fat milk, snack, or Greek yogurt and or cottage cheese w/fruit then, regular dinner (but) can sometimes be too much, it seems I'm extra hungry, plus I've been walking for exercise, the more I walk the hungerer I am... I also eat 1 or 2 cups of crushed ice, that's an old habit that I have been doing forever... I am looking forward to your comments and input.

    Little Green getting little(r)

My appointment today went well! My surgeon seemed really pleased with my progress and how everything is healing up. The dietitian wasn't there so I didn't get to chat with her about food, but the surgeon said she would have her call me on Monday. I asked about why I haven't lost any weight in over a week and she said to wait another week and evaluate after that. She mentioned I could be eating too many calories but we both agreed that was extremely unlikely. I don't see how that's even possible unless I have some sort of freak metabolic issue post-op. Most days this week I could barely choke down a 160-cal PP shake plus maybe half a cup of soup. I'm not worried about the food, to be totally honest. I just need to get walking and keep hydrating. Today was probably my best food day yet although I admit I didn't eat anything until 2pm-- but after that, I had Panera broccoli cheddar soup (in two sittings), a strawberry banana Greek yogurt smoothie (over the course of 3 hours), and about a half ounce of feta cheese (allowed to melt down in my mouth before swallowing of course). I'm SO happy about the smoothie; I was really worried about dumping from high amounts of natural sugars but I had no problems and it tasted absolutely phenomenal. I got some bananas at the store tonight and I'm eagerly waiting for them to ripen! I went to the store on my own tonight and shopped for about 40 minutes. I was definitely shaky toward the end but I just sipped my water and took it easy. If we can manage to get up and out of the house before 8, tomorrow morning will be a good one for trail walking... but I don't have much faith in us getting up, haha. I need to go to Whole Foods soon to see if I can find soy-based products like yogurt that I couldn't find at Wally World or my grocery store, so that can be another indoor walk for me. Slowly but surely I will get there!
  21. I might be paranoid but Im 8 days post op and things like yogurt, glucerna and broth (homemade without an ounce of fat) are making my stomach hurt. Its like i wish i could take alka seltzer kinda pain. Also have had liquid stool for 2 days. 3-5 times a day. Has this happened to anyone? Is it normal or no Sent from my SM-G935F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Fruit Smoothies Preop / Postop

Thanks, I'm using necter unflavored powder, bipro water with them or vanilla premier protein. Spoke to my nurse and she said wait till I have had some vegetables with fiber before trying any fruit after surgery so 3-4 weeks and just to make sure they fit the rules. Now I am 4 days from surgery they want me on full liquids. I did make a Premier protein Caramel with a cup of black coffee and ice in the blender and it was great. They are just too sweet for me. The necter is fine in broth, yogurt and my cream of 98% fat free soups. I'm having my surgery because my comorbidity is my liver/bile duct and I already needed surgery for that. This surgery I pray keeps me from having liver problems anymore. They already had to cut into and staple my stomach so why not? I'll be glad when June is over and I feel normal again. 500- 600 calories a day leaves little energy to do much!

    May 2018 losers bench

Hi again guys! I’m able to get down some soft foods. Not meat sits well other than slow cooked shredded chicken. I’m sticking to veggies for now. And cheese and yogurt. That’s been all good! Because of my complications, I lost a little over 30 lbs between May 10 and a week ago. Now I’m stalled. Ah the good old 3 week stall! But I’m not freaking out since i lost so much initially from basically starving. As long as I stopped being stalled in the next 2 weeks, I’m ok with it. I’ve dropped from a morbidly obese BMI to obese BMI. Who would have thought I’d be so happy to just be obese 😂 I’m going to do the measuring tonight because all my clothes are falling off. I hope everyone is doing great!

I was sleeved on May 22. I am now eating soft proteins only. Once l started eating I stopped loosing weight. I am having a difficult time eating because I am not hungry. I haven’t had a problem with 1 oz of tuna with Greek yogurt, 1 scrambled egg with cheese and bacon, or a grilled chicken nuggets. It takes 30 minutes to eat and I am full but no overly so. I drink a protein shake in the morning. Has anyone noticed a stall when going to a the next stage? I’ve only lost 18lbs since surgery and 31lbs since starting this journey. I am 23lbs from my first GW.
