    Little to no weightloss

OK - breathe. Weight loss isn't linear. Everyone - *EVERYONE* hits stalls regularly. They are part of the journey. It seems to me from what you've said OP that you have lost 18lbs in 11 weeks since your surgery. Which is already amazing. Why are you calling that rubbish? 6 weeks post MY op I had lost 15lbs. But that turned out to be a tiny proportion of what I went on to lose in the next 18 months. I also had almost 10 stone to lose. If you can focus on your long term goal it will be no time until you're there, or almost there. I wish you all the luck in the world. If you stick to the rules you've been given then you have every chance to achieve your goal weight. 😍

    Burning/pulling/stinging pain

I'm almost 4 weeks out from having RNY and still have the stabbing right side pain during certain movements. It seemed to go away around 2 weeks and I remember thinking "thank God". But it returned recently on a day I had walked 30 minutes on my treadmill, did some laundry and cleaned up my kitchen. I probably did too much. So, I've been resting the last few days and wearing a binder. I thought by moving more I would recover quicker. Guess not... But like all of you was told this pain was normal.

    Pre-Op Toxicology Screen

I was sent to my GP a week before my surgery to test for drugs, alcohol and nicotine, Took both blood and urine. I've read some doctors will cancel your surgery if you test positive. Not sure if that's the norm for everyone but my doctors knew I was a heavy vaper for 5 years previous.

    Stall?

I’m in exactly the same situation, hit my first real stall this week at exactly the 6 month mark. Really happy with the results so far, lost 135lbs and would actually be thrilled if I could just stay stable at this weight but I feel my body still wants me to lose more. Still struggling to get over 1500cals daily with most days barely hitting 1200cals. My personal fear is that I lose too much weight and look anorexic.

    Stall?

Sounds like you were lucky to not have hit a stall until now. Just stick to your plan, measure your meals as to not overeat, I don't believe you have stretched out your stomach.

    Stall?

I am 5.5 months out from mini bypass and wondering if I am in a stall. I haven’t had one yet but it’s been 15 days since I’ve lost anything. I’ve also noticed my restriction not kicking in - is that normal? Does that mean I’ve stretched my stomach?

    Weight stall 7 days PO

you've probably hit the infamous "three week stall" (most people have this early stall. It's usually the third week after surgery, hence the name, but it can happen any time within the first six weeks or so). Mine was weeks 2 and 3. Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale, and know that it'll break and you'll be on your way again. No need to do anything different.

    Length of liquid diet Post-op

I'm having a hard time too! My Sleeve surgery was on 04/18 so I just started week 3. According to my surgeons plan, I'm still on a full liquid diet. Next week, week 4, I can throw in scrambled eggs, low or non fat cottage cheese, 2% string cheese, low fat cheese slices, and add fruit to blended protein shakes. On week 5 I can add soft cooked vegetables, canned chicken or tuna - fork smashed, refried beans, bananas, and canned fruit - fork smashed. Week 6 I move to solid food as tolerated. Last week at my 1 week follow up I told my Dr that I was very surprised at how hungry I am all the time and that I'm able to get all the protein and liquids down with no problems. I think he kind of thought I was under the impression that I got a bad sleeve. Mostly because he said: "I don't want you to think you didn't get a good sleeve..." hahaha! I'm just trying not to compare myself to others. It's hard. I keep reading about how everyone is not hungry anymore and I get a bit jealous. Hahahaha! I'll survive.... but I can't wait for some scrambled eggs!

    Length of liquid diet Post-op

I was on some form of a restricted diet for the first 3 months: clear liquids for a week, full liquids for 3 weeks, purees for 3 weeks and I think 6 weeks on soft foods. By the time I got to the point my diet was no longer restricted I was CRAVING raw vegetables something awful, and that's not really something that has let up (to a point where my dietitian had to gently chastise me for eating so much salad because it wasn't leaving enough room for protein!) I'm not going to suggest you go on your own and contradict your team's recommendations, but you may consider talking to them if you are tolerating things well if they would be open to you potentially accelerating your schedule. If you're having trouble, I would stick with the schedule.

    Traveling

I travel quite a bit, but most of it is alone, so I only have to be in charge of myself and my own schedule which makes it a bit easier...but I do have some suggestions of things that work for me. I would try to seek out lodging that has a refrigerator and possibly a microwave and consider preparing at least one or two of your meals in your room as opposed to eating in a restaurant--you'll have a much easier time being able to control your portions and what is in your meals that way. I usually hit a grocery store before I head to my hotel and pick up things like string cheese, vegetables that are easy to snack on (grape tomatoes, baby carrots, even things like sugar snap peas are really good raw), individual containers of cottage cheese or yogurt, deli turkey, things like that. When you do eat out in restaurants, think outside the box and consider pairing several sides into a meal you can live with (for instance, my husband and I have a Japanese restaurant we like a lot, his meal comes with a side salad and I usually take that, and then I ask for a side order of shrimp to put on top, and I eat that as my meal). This works out better because by getting only the sides, you're not paying for nor being tempted by the inevitable carb-based side that accompanies most restaurant plates. The tricky thing is that while traveling it's harder to store and/or find time to eat leftovers so I always end up feeling like I'm being wasteful if I order a full "meal" intended for someone with a normal stomach. A lot of this is going to potentially boil down to how flexible and accommodating your travel partners will be in helping you be able to eat places you can find something suitable. If they insist on eating bar food (or something along those lines) all week, it may end up being a little hard, so hang in there, do your best, it's not forever, and if you have a difficult couple days, just get back on track when you get home.

    Little to no weightloss

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I have 10 stone to lose. My surgery weight was 21 stone 9lb and 11 weeks later I weight 20 stone 5lb. So really rubbish weigthloss in 11 weeks, with weeks of no losses. I haven’t lost any weight in the last 4 weeks. I’m just seriously fed up. I understand stalls happen and weightloss is different for everyone. I took the no weightloss for the first 3 weeks and took it on the chin. I then kept reading to trust the process which I have for the previous 4 weeks and still no weightloss. I’m not living my life at all and haven’t been for years as the weight really affects my confidence. I’m not sure I can carry on for the next years to come if this weight doesn’t come off. Seems like it won’t and like my body has just adjusted to the new calories and storing it all. My only hope is fasting at this point. My last hope in all seriousness. I'm really sorry you’re going through a stall at the moment. I will keep my fingers crossed it’s a short term stall for you and you’ll be back losing before you know it. It’s very deflating.

    Little to no weightloss

Hi Anna, so sorry you're feeling defeated. I've been at a bit of a stall myself, which from advice on here and through my surgery team, say is normal. I did start adding in some good carbs as my body was telling me I should (not a "head hunger", but true hunger for them I'm still losing, but slowly. The good thing is that since adding back some carbs I feel better than I have since that %$#@! Pre-op liquid diet! The "brain fog" is gone too! Good luck to you! Also, I'm not sure how much weight you have to lose, but I've found and read that the "smaller" you are, the less likely you'll lose quickly...

    Burning/pulling/stinging pain

I was getting on here to ask you guys the same thing! When it happens to me, it is close to a couple of the incisions. It's an instant, like what Shanna said, being stabbed with a hot knife. I have my 5 week phone check in with the surgeon today and was going to mention it. Glad to hear on here that it seems to be a fairly normal occurrence and will go away! Thanks for asking the question, Shanna, and thank you guys for the feedback. Helped ease my mind a bit!

    Little to no weightloss

That should say I am on 1 stone and not 2 stone. I do think it could be hormonal for me. I’ve called my GP today and going to request full screening of bloods to see if there is anything. 11 weeks prior to surgery, I wasn’t dieting so I wasn’t gaining or losing. I was eating very unhealthy though with wine and takeaways. Up until the pre op diet and I followed the plan they gave me which was meal replacement shakes for 2 weeks and lost 2lb only. Thing is if I keep waiting for results, I’ll be here in weeks to come and still have no weight loss. I’ve given it 4 weeks and tried increasing calories and nothing it working. Suppose I’m feeling utterly deflated and fed up.

    Burning/pulling/stinging pain

I was told it was normal even at my 3 month post op appointment. At first it was like yours but after the 1st month, I only felt it occasionally or when I pressed on it. I honestly started to notice it was not hurting even when pressed about 3 weeks ago when I was getting closer to 5 months. This week is kind of nonexistent.

    Weight stall 7 days PO

Your body is in shock. don't worry about it and stay on track. Also, I would only weigh yourself once a week... daily is not a good idea.
  18. SuziDavis

    Little to no weightloss

How much were you losing in 11 weeks before surgery?
  19. SuziDavis

    Little to no weightloss

Fasting isn't going to help you to get on track. I hit a two month stall and the only thing that worked was actually carb loading for a weekend and then back to normal. Everyone stalls out through the process, try increasing calories, more exercise, things like that. the stall happens because your body is ion shock, starving it won't help.

    Burning/pulling/stinging pain

Yup, its quite normal. Mine was when I was in bed and rolled over...my belly would pull a bit and Id get the stinging/burning pulling. Mr Dr said it was a combination of things. Sutures, healing, scare tissue...but was all normal. Like yours, mine was NOT near the incisions and was NOT consent. Mine went away in about 1-2 weeks...all now gone.
  21. I am today officially 3 weeks post op RNY. My first week of healing was a bit uncomfortable, but by the end I was much better and could move around more. Week 2 I started to feel some tugging on my right side kind of away from the immediate incision area. I mentioned it to my surgeon at my 2 week visit and he said it is likely because 2 of the incisions are sewn to muscle and did not seem concerned. Well 4-5 days later, not only is that part in an awful state of pain, but the 3rd incision site (internally) also feeling similar. It’s not a constant pain, but brought on by movement. It started as some movement like bending, but now is with nearly anything. (Showering is torture). It is what I can best describe as being stabbed with a hot knife. It for sure feels like a muscle burn rather than an ulcer burn and is only relieved with holding my stomach w a lot of pressure. I picked up a back brace/ab brace for an immediate fix with hopes to get a better larger binder. With the brace I can function way better, but because I have a B belly, it sits in the crease and with the pressure after several hours it irritates my skin. Anyone else experience a similar feeling? I am awaiting a reply back from my doctor.
  22. Hi, I had a sleeve on 4/25. Still on protein shake and clear liquid diet. I haven’t lost any weight in the last 3 days. Doing everything right, walking 30 min, having my protein shakes. Still working on getting my liquids to at least 64 oz. Having around 45-50 oz a day. Scale is not moving! Any suggestions?

    Little to no weightloss

It’s just a huge kick in the teeth. I would’ve thought around 4/5lb per week and should be on 3 stone weightloss by 11 weeks and I’m on 2 stone. It’s just not working for me.

    Weight Regain at 3 Weeks

You're at the 3-week mark which is a very common point to either stall or even have a modest regain. You didn't mention what liquids you were drinking prior to now but if you weren't having much salt (from things like broth, for instance) and have now added things like cheese that can be kind of salty, it could also be water weight which will resolve itself.

    Little to no weightloss

one stone is 14 lbs. I don't know what your starting weight was, but 14 lbs actually isn't bad. you're probably in a stall now. They happen to most of us every so often along our journeys. They typically last 1-3 weeks, but it's not unheard of for them to last longer than that. I absolutely would NOT go on a water-only diet. You'll just end up with nutritional deficiences and a screwed-up metabolism. Stay on your program. Contact your clinic if you're worried and let them know what's going on - but honestly, I don't think anything is wrong.
