Pre-op appointment today
Mommabird replied to Jelko7t3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that pre-op diets vary a lot from doctor to doctor. This is the one my doctorb uses and that I'm on now. 3-4 low carb, low fat Protein shakes a day. I had the choice of several. Premier Protein Shakes as are good and available at Walmart, Sams and costco. I use unjury Protein powder but since I don't know when your surgery is, I don't know if you would have time to order them. I also can have 3 moderate servings of non-starchy veggies with no fat or "extras" added. It's not an easy diet but I have lost weight during the last 9 days -
Protein shakes and stomach ache
ireallywannabthin replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm I wonder if it really is my body jut adjusting. I had my endoscopy last week on top of starting the protein shakes so I think it was a combination. I had another protein shake for breakfast this morning and I only had a tiny feeling of nausea so I'm leaning more towards a reaction of the endoscopy and slightly towards adjusting to the protein. -

Pre-op appointment today
leanora27801 replied to Jelko7t3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started my diet today and I'm on 3-4 protein shakes a day and two snacks such as sugar free jello or sugar free popsicles! I hope this helps you! -
Walmart has some for $1.77 (or close to that) Keep in mind that the Protein "bullets" (what those little vials are called) are not considered the best source of protein. However, my attitude is they are better than nothing in the beginning until you can handle getting your protein from good foods.

Disney vacation planning... newly sleeved.
bmxmama2 replied to kns2033's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of those are great ideas, but you do need to get your water in. I live near Disney, and our winter is not like actual winter. February is often in the 80s and extremely sunny. Dehydration can happen year round. If you don’t want to carry food around, Disney has lots of options that can be fairly inexpensive. There are stands everywhere with healthy snacks so you aren’t spending a lot on huge meals that would take a month to eat. I usually get a kid’s meal with grilled chicken, side salad or broccoli, yogurt, and bottled water for $4.95. They have condiment bars with the peanut butter containers that I take for snacks. Have fun! You’ll have a great time! -
breakfast: chocolate soy milk, vanilla protein powder lunch: chocolate soy milk, berry protein powder snack: beef jerky (14g protein) i don't know how to do this without a snack. i am just too hungry!! i'm hoping as i adjust to the liquids, it gets easier. and i hope that happens SOON. 348pm: i knew if i sat on my butt for one second longer, i would eat myself out of house and home. so i got up and cleaned the house. hubby is going to be SO happy when he gets home! he's the cleaner, not i. LOL. i still need to sweep/mop, but that is too hard to do with mr. underfoot underfoot. :rolleyes (quincy - my dog. he is always 1 step behind me... if i change my speed even a little bit, he crashes right into me.) anyhow, so i was reading another person's lapband journal and they said they did 1 protein shake for breakfast, 1 lean cuisine for lunch and 1 for dinner. we went to the same doctor... i'm wondering if they gave her a different diet then i? or maybe she read the instructions wrong. i WISH i didn't have to do 2 shakes. that's HARD. i've already had 3pts of water and counting. this hunger headache is driving me batty too. blah blah blah. whine whine whine. :tired okay, done babbling. i'm going to go polish my wood furniture. LOL. dinner: 3 pieces of french bread with butter (:embarassed: ), 2/3 cup of beef pot roast stew (3grams fat 150 calories). 2 traderades (i need to hide them from myself... can't... stop... drinking...traderades...) here's to hoping tomorrow is better... i have a meeting at my bosses restaurant and there is alway some delicious dessert the pastry chef gives us. :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

2 oz, really???
TijuanaPlication replied to jeniferdann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I doubt you've stretched it yet. I think you'd have to be eating to the point of vomiting on a regular basis. Carbs are slider foods for a lot of people and you're correct about the density, so stick to the protein as much as you can! -
Allergic Reaction To Protein
honk replied to Rosario_35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI I saw on Drugstore.com a Protein powder made with goats milk. Have not tried it so can't comment on the flavor. I agree you could be allergic to that brand. whey is found in milk. If you can drink milk you are probably not allergic to whey. I am not a doctor just my thoughts. I would go to Vitamin Shoppe or GNC and see if they will let you exchange Protein Powder if you have a problem with it. If so buy protein powder from one of those places. FYI not all Whey protein is the same. Isolate is a better type of whey protein for you (purer). -
Allergic Reaction To Protein
NWgirl replied to Rosario_35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They also make egg protein powder, if the other two don't work. I would also recommend testing something else out because it could be just that the product you tried had too many fillers. -
KP are you asking for a flavorless shake or flavorless Protein that can be added to drinks, food etc I would recommend Allmax ISo Natural pure whey protein isolate. Sold at GNC Def no flavor and none of that slimey texture

I took the pain meds for about a week or ten days (liquid Tylenol with codeine) which tasted awful! It was only at night after about five days. I still don't feel like I am drinking enough fluids as I'd like, but my surgeon said as long as I am peeing clear and regularly and don't feel thirsty that my body is probably getting enough. It has been much easier getting fluids down in more volume in the past week or so. I guess my tummy is healing! I would not suggest "forcing" anything at this stage. Just stay hydrated and do your best with the Protein. Congratulations on your new sleeve!

I am having the same issues with the protein powders. Where would I find the protein shots that you mentioned? Thanks!

4wks post- gained 2?!?
blizair09 replied to L I G H T S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are just in the "three week stall." Google it and you'll find lots of information. Your body is healing right now, and you won't likely get an accurate weight in the first month. You just need to keep meeting your protein and water goals each day, and stay off the scale if it is going to upset you. The weight will start to come off again soon, but it won't be linear, and will often be quite erratic. Good luck! -
Here to help make a decision...
LaMonica replied to Miss Michelle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well good morning to you! I am also new here, trying to figure out what my best option is, if surgery is for me. I think hearing down to earth real stories from people who have gone through this is one of the best places to start with research. I'm 24 in Texas and just trying to figure out the best route to take. I hope you find some of the answers you are looking for! -
Hi, I am a newbie to this site and just lost my band and am convinced that the vertical sleeve is my next best option. I am writing to inquire of the "sleeved" about their experiences with pbing, sliming or food getting stuck? Is this real? If so, is it similar to the band experience? How long does it take to pass? What are suggestive tips to get the food to move along since "being too tight" and getting an unfill isnt an option? Please advise. Thanks! Sheena

Thought of a great way to get my veggies and breakfast out of the way: * 1 cup Low Sodium V8 * 1 pkt Veggie Powder * 2 scoops of Vitamin World Non-Soy Veggie Protein Powder * Horseradish/Worchestershire Sauce to taste Ta Da! "Veggie Mary"! Great idea until I added the Vitamin World product...turned gritty with an awful flavor. I've tried this stuff in various hot and cold applications - supposed to be flavorless - WRONG - it is awful regardless. I'm going to try this again tomorrow using Bariatric Eating's "Pure" and see if it's any better.

I don't understand the surgery, either. I've heard of gastric plication where they fold and suture the stomach instead of removing it, but I don't know of any procedure that combines the two. I'm a military spouse, too, and I completely understand not having a lot of options for surgery. I flew all the way from Germany to San Diego to use Dr. Aceves because doing it any other way wasn't a real option for me. I knew of no VSG surgeons in Germany that had enough experience to make me comfortable so it seemed my best best. I don't regret my choice one bit! I didn't work, per se, but I did stay at home with two year old twins after my surgery. I was tired and a bit run down for about a week after surgery but I was fine after that except for some occasional discomfort on my side. I didn't even need pain pills after I finished my flights and was back in Germany. So I'd say it's possible for you to do it but you might need to really take it easy when you're not working until you heal. I hope you have a safe surgery and a swift recovery. ~Cheri

So how are you planning on dealing with all of the food related temptations of Thanksgiving? I'm planning on being strict about eating the right portion sizes and focusing on protein the same as ever... and letting other stuff (total calories, carbs, etc.) slide. I figure I'm entitled to a little joy for Thanksgiving, but if I eat a light breakfast and lunch and fill my plate mostly with protein, small portions of carb and calorie heavy stuff for one meal won't kill me. I did ask my family to make fewer side dishes than usual this year, so that I won't feel the need to try as many things. And we're going to roll with just one dessert. I don't need four pies and cakes hanging out in the fridge all week taunting me. I'll have a small bit of the one dessert, but no other sweets. What are you planning?

When I add protein powder to my water & shake it, I get a lot of foam. Do I have to drink the foam too to get in all the protein the drink is supposed to supply? This feels like a really silly question!

Loose Skin after sleeve surgery
LittleLizzieLilliput replied to Tonabella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm already saving for the full body lift. I have seen some amazing post results, have already been sourcing out surgeons even though it's gonna be 2 years at least. Why? Because they have a lot of great suggestions. But either your skin will rebound or it won't. You need to give it more time to know. My GP said that within a year we will see how much bounces back and how much I will have to deal with. It's far too soon to know what you will look like. Also need to work on toning and muscle strength once you've been cleared. I have been working on my legs, butt, core and arms. I am seeing an improvement. I'm also seeing an improvement under my chin. I don't have a lot of loose flesh but when I tilt my head down it kind of wrinkles at base a little bit. My GP said that should be gone as I lose more. While our bodies are in flux it's hard to know what you will be dealing with long term. I am focusing on building muscle, losing fat, eating my protein and drinking my water. I hate the way my body looks as it's melting but I am also excited to see just how far I can go and then go to the next step with surgery. Will I look like a model? Hells no!! Do I care? No. I don't want to be perfect, I don't need the perfect beach body, I just don't want to look like I'm melting. We will most likely never be exactly how we want to look (Who is really? lol!) but we can be so much closer. Talk to your surgeon if they are local to you, they will have a lot of plastic surgeon referrals and if your Doc is like mine, well renowned in the area, then they'll also have the best plastic surgeons to recommend. Good luck! This is a "good" problem to have. It does suck and is slightly demoralizing but there are ways to combat it. Not cheap but for me I think it's worth it. I think you are smart to start your research now, but remember to stay focused on the real goals here. -
I asked at my most recent appointment (I'm 3.5 weeks out) and was told "I don't care how many calories you consume, or how much weight you lose! I want you to meet the protein, fluid & vitamin goals and heal!" The tool isn't fully healed, yet, so work on your minimum goals and the tool will be ready to rock before you know it!

Ok soooo im 7 months out. was 270 and now I am 187. I have totally slacked on protein bad bad me. I am sure i would probably weigh a bit less. But every since I was in the hospital my brain says omg throw it up now apparently. Very few of them I can stomach. Once I actually take pictures I will post some. I have to get too 160 we will see how this goes. Lets see loose skin..check! chicken wings and all. Its not too bad though. The belly skin is what bothers me. Thin hair with the protein. It seems to fall out everyday but i am not going bald or anything. Happy journey folks!

Screwed up on pre-op diet ?
Kimba Maria Wiggins replied to Kimba Maria Wiggins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in temporary housing so getting rid of tempting foods isn't an option. I just stay out of the kitchen as much as possible, only to fix my food and leave right away. After surgery I won't be eating nearly as much as I used to (which will be a big plus). -
I traveled to Phoenix this week on a business trip and the challenge was having high-protein, low-carb meals. My wife came with me and we did try Souper Salad for dinner one night, but all of the food there was inedible. Before that it was Black Angus for a kid's sirloin steak dinner, which I couldn't even finish.
