    Such an awesome NSV!

hey melanie, so great re your nsv. i haven't flown much since surgery, but last week i had to fly, and was so pleased to find that not only didthe lap tray let down all the way...but that there were about 2 inches between my body and the tray!! used to be that i couldn't get the tray to come down as it would hang on my tummy. oh and i still love flying without needing an extender seat belt. amanda
  2. I'm already "there" but this is such an exciting thread, I hope y'all don't mind if I post!!! "My favorite things" (as Oprah would say) during this journey we've all chosen to take are these: Shopping, shopping, shopping!!! Going down a size is so stinkin' exciting! I just bought jeans in a size 4, a FOUR again yesterday, this is the third time, but every single time it makes me smile inside!! Never, ever did I dare dream this was possible. NEVER! One day I woke up and I had a collar bone, that was probably my first NSV. I would say other than when I slipped into my first pair of size 6 jeans, this was the single most exciting thing. A collar bone, who knew I really had one!!!???? Now I have shoulder bones and hip bones. It's really amazing to me!!! Someone saying I'm 'thin', 'small', 'little' or 'skinny'. The first few times, you'll want to look around to make sure they are really talking about you.....then you'll want to giggle!!! These are a few of my favorite things! I'm sooooo glad I didn't have anything "re-routed" and so glad I didn't get "banded" - I almost got the lapband, I considered it. Luckily I'm obsessive about research, and decided against it. I love my sleeve, forced portion control, it's just what I needed!!

    Pet peeve: extra skin.

I'll take the post bariatric WLS surgery weight loss Shar-Pei look on the green side of the grass over the alternative. People, after losing the excess weight, should not be surprised by the excess skin due to the years of stretching it out by being obese. Also we lose the elasticity of the skin as we age too. If someone wants to get plastic surgery because they would like to feel better about how they look, then that is their decision. For me, not seeing that obese man look back at me in the mirror is more than enough. My improved health, self esteem, improved or eliminated comorbidities due to no longer being obese, more NSVs than I can even write about on one page, etc., is all I need.

Nervous - I Begin My Pre-Op Diet Today

Rachel (and all on a liquid diet pre-op), you girls rock. I love Rachel's 'tude... take it hour by hour, moment by moment and do what you can to just get through it. That was the hardest challenge prior to surgery. You can do it guys and gals. And wow, I have to smile at how far you have come and with a great 'tude too! Kudos to you! That's a huge NSV! xx
  7. I flew for the first time since wls and fit in the seats with no problem! The seatbelt had a lot of extra belt, after I tightened it, whereas before I had to extend it to the end. Way better experience than the last time I flew.
  8. One positive I have done to help myself in a healthy way recently, I took the advice of my surgeon & I stopped weighing myself daily. I am trying to see my weight loss as NSV'S & not JUST A NUMBER ON THE SCALE like I always have. That has helped me in a big way, but of course then there is the visual part in the mirror I see daily. So being excited about my NSV have been HUGE for me.

    Boring plateaus

Gaynor, I can eat everything. And sometimes I do. but not all at once! Why shouldn't you be able to tolarate steak? Talk about your hard protiens! A nice whole grain bread with lots of Fiber is actually a good thing, every now and again. Just not an entire loaf! As long as you are getting 1200 to 1500 calories aday, with adaquate protiens... that's the target range. Patience is soooo hard. We see people who seem to be doing so much "better" than we are. We see the loss that the RNY poeple have. One of our greatest challenges is to not compair against anybody else. I'm personally frustrated with my slow loss. Other people see my loss and think "wow! she's just got the weight falling off her." but I compaire myself against folks that have lost double what I've lost and I want to kick something. I am concentrating on my NSVs and trying desperately to ignore the evil evil evil scale.

    February Exercise Challege

No way could I put you to shame Stef. From what I've been reading here, you have no shame when it comes to lifting. As for "non lifting days", if I didn't have those, my arms and legs would fall off.:cool2: Cardio is going good though. I attribute that to my weight loss totals. Now, for another nsv. I had to make my 3rd adjustment to my duty belt since coming back to work 1 month after surgery. In the past, that has meant lengthening the belt. Now, it means making it smaller. I keep having to readjust all my pouches, holsters, etc. on my belt to make it fit right. Also, I got new uni's about 1 1/2 mos ago to go smaller. At the time, they had a little "give" to them. Now, the shirts are way out from my stomach and my pants are getting some "pleats" from being a little too big. Even though I've been on a plateau for a couple of weeks now, I know I am still losing size.

    My jeans fit!!

Congrats on the NSV! I'll bet those jeans look fabulous!! I can't wait to wear mine!
  12. Well I have been having ups and downs. I am almost 9 months out. I have stopped weighing myself all the time and decided to try to maintain my weight loss. It has been hard and I haven't been doing a very good job. I have decided to try to shock myself back in a low carb high protein mode this week. Just because I need to get the cravings out of my system. I am still hitting the gym. Because of a couple of things that came up unexpectedly and out of town meetings I actually had only 2 days working out this week. That is the least I have worked out since about November. I guess I'll have to watch that. I did go shopping and was able to fit my big fat butt into a size 10 skirt!!!! I couldn't believe it! I don't ever remember wearing a size 10! I also bought my first little black dress. It is a size 14 (the girls are always bigger) I have just recently gotten out of plus size shirts) It is Calvin Klein and it looks AWESOME! Now I just need a place to wear it! So I am still having some NSV, but I have to admit that I am feeling very fat again. Part of it is what I am eating. If I was eating right all the time I wouldn't feel like look so fat. I'll have to work on that. I know that I have gotten used to seeing myself like this so that is part of why I am starting to not see a skinny me in the mirror anymore. That will change when I start loosing again. I am still looking forward to visiting my family and surprising them with my 100+ weight loss. I leave a week from Thursday. I have been tanning and worrying about what to wear and what they will say. I will look forward to coming home and getting back on the weight loss wagon. I am starting to think that weight loss will be much MUCH easier than maintenance....I guess I'll have to work on that. Much love to all! HUGE NSV... had to share...

I think it is a fabulous NSV and so great that you can shop at your favorite store. A medium is a very exciting accomplishment - so nice not to be "large" even though we are not at all defined by our size. Feels good anyway and enjoy!

    NSV

I bought a dress off the rack at size L. It's not tight at all. My son is able to wrap his arms completely around me for a hug.
  17. I'm posting this in the 200 pounds forum because I know that for us, our NSV's can be very different from the run of the mill NSV's the lightweights have... so here are some NSV's from a (former)super-morbidly obese woman.... Being able to shop in ANY plus size section of any department store or chain with plus sizes (some of which carry up to 22 or 24 only) and not just the store with "extended plus sizes". *cough* Catherine's. BOOYEAH! It's awesome. But now my problem is TOO MUCH selection... I'm looking for a dress to wear to my cousin's wedding but I have too many options and can't decide! Not having EVERY SINGLE SHIRT I own have a hole/stain at the belly from where I rub up against everything. Still waiting for this one... RUINED another shirt at work yesterday :-( Being able to grab my own ankle without assistance in order to do quad stretches. It's embarrassing to have to have a stranger in your class push your leg up far enough for you to grab your ankle!.... I'm almost there but not quite.. I think my entire aerobics class is going to celebrate with me when I can stretch my own quads. Having the nasty yeasty fat lady feet problem go away. I had some sort of fungal/yeast infection thing going on on my feet for YEARS.. (ya know, that yellow chalky peeling cracking ugly old people/fatpeople feet) My right foot now looks like it belongs to a newborn baby and my left foot is ALMOST completely clear and I can wear SANDALS for the first time in a decade! Bending over to pick something off the floor without thinking about it/without dreading it. A larger lady at the store dropped a quarter the other day and I KNEW she was thinking: "is that quarter worth bending over to pick up?" UG, I remember that feeling well... I didn't even really realize what a NSV this is until being reminded what a struggle it was for me before, because now I just bend and get stuff all the time now without even thinking about it. OK so there you have it.. some of my favorite NSV's So let's hear it What NSV's made you the happiest.. or if you're just starting, what NSV's are you looking forward to?

    favorite NSV's/most anticipated NSV's

I've had a pannus since age 11... I have no idea what it will be like without one...It's just part of my body that I'm so used to now I can't imagine not having it.. .I actually have two sticks of deodorant.. one for my pits and one for under my roll.... TMI? perhaps, but it will be nice to downgrade to only one stick of deodorant and some point! I guess I can add that to the list of NSVs I'm looking forward to.

    SVs & NSVs

I'm feeling pretty good about my progress today. Of course I still feel like I want every excess pound off yesterday, but people are starting to really notice and comment now. Yesterday a patient said, "you have lost a lot of weight since I saw you last time, haven't you?" I told her how much I've lost and she wanted to know all about how I did it. This morning on my way to work I went through the Starbucks drive-up. (I get Starbucks about 1-2 times a week and not always at the same store.) I got up to the window and the gal said, " It is you! You have lost a lot of weight! You look Great! " It made me feel good that someone who doesn't really know me and has only seen me at the drive-up noticed and said something. I have 3 part-time jobs. I worked the job that I have had the longest today, so the patients have known me for many years. Most of them said something about my weightloss. I guess those are pretty much "scale victores.", but I did have a NSV today too! I fit in the jeans I couldn't get zipped last time I tried! I will be wearing those this weekend!
  21. I went to eat dinner with the family after church for my son's birthday and they seated us in the dreaded booth! I squeezed myself in there the best way I could and just sat there thinking that much longer this won't be an issue . I might as well go ahead and share my most modifying moment of being obese while I'm at it. We went to an amusement park and I got on the ride. I kid you not, I had 1 of the workers in the front coaching me to "suck it in" while 2 other workers was in the back holding on to the seat as support. I was so embarrassed and not only that but I was uncomfortable the whole time the ride was going from not being able to breath and having my mid section stuffed in that ride. I won't know how to act when I am able to get in a ride and not worry about embarrassing myself or my family. Those are just a couple of NSV's I'm looking forward to!! Not sure what compelled me to share this but maybe some of you can relate...
  22. Spring cleaning & yard work!! Ordinarily I would not think of this as fun. But I had a great boost of motivation & energy (due to my weightloss I'm sure). I live alone & last week made 13 years since I bought my house. For years, I had been so unhappy with the looks of my kitchen. It was very cluttered with no organization & just not functional at all. Over the years, I just let it go. Like I did so much other things in my life like my weight and enjoying life. Since it is just me, my kitchen table was a work station w/ junk mail and you name it. Everytime I saw it, I just sighed, shook my head, left the area in frustration & wishing things were different in there. The job just seemed to be so much & I was overwhelmed & ashamed to ask anyone to help me. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't of the caliber of needing Dr. Phil or someone to come in, but it was nowhre near what I wanted it to be. Well guess what? Something got into me & I did it! Took me parts of three days but the first day I worked for 3 hours straight. The time just flew by. I was not tired or anything. I am so proud of myself. I went through all cabinets & threw out stuff. I think I lost at least 150 pounds in clutter & plastic shopping bags. My kitchen feels like a kitchen now & looks great. I vow to never let it get out of hand again. One of my goals is to experiment with low carb/fat band appropriate cooking. I dream of dinner parties & inviting my closest most supportive friends & family. Now I see that as a possibility. I bought new placemats, pots/pans, chair cushions and curtain. And if that wasn't enough, Saturday morning I got up early, went to Walmart, loaded up and spread 11 bags of mulch in my yard all by myself. That was another project I had on my wish list. It felt so good looking at my accomplishments after i was finished. Felt even better than when I got in my first pair of jeans out of the Misses Dept. I just had to toot my own horn because I am still in shock that I did it alone. Last year this time there would have been no way.
