    Lets talk skin

From the pic (this is of course speculation on my part!), but the majority of your weight is in your upper body. Your legs are not huge, and unless you have on 2 pairs of full length Spanx under your leggings, I think you're golden on the lower half. You may end up with loose skin on the arms if you fail to exercise post-op (once cleared by your MD of course) and do lots of weight training / bands etc. for your arms. Since you've had 3 c-sections, the retraction of your belly will be different from others who have not been cut with a transverse 'bikini' cut like you have; that causes a loss of muscle strength which is worsened by weight gain and the fact that it's been done 3 times. Also, there's likely a seperation of your upper abdominal muscles that can only be repaired with a tummy tuck. If you do decide to have an abdominoplasty after your weight loss, they can create magic for you, and you'll end up with a really nice, flat tummy. I think you'll do great! Youth is on your side!
  2. Wow Samantha a size 18 Calvin Klein, what a milestone! All the marathon training etc that is going on is so impressive too. I am not more hungry... yet. I have days when I can eat a little more, and others when I can't. But really those just cancel themselves out and I don't think that I am overeating. Snacking I could see could happen. Various people in my UK group who are further down the line than we are are going to Slimming World, or the equivalent for much the same reason and that seems to be really helpful for accumulative bad eating habits and weight gain. I have never stopped going but I would be stricter again if I was having problems with my eating/weight. At the moment as I am having such small amounts and focusing on protein so I find that I sometimes eat things that would not be on the plan, like occasional nuts. There is no reason to ever be hungry following SW so that is a real bonus. Take care all of you. Claire
  3. I am still pre-op but I've had a ton of other surgeries and I can vouch for the IV fluids causing a LOT of water weight gain! I've gained as much as 15 lbs from a surgery. You might also have some swelling inside, Give it time, that surgical water weight should come off very easily in the next week or so.
  4. That seeming "Weight gain" happened to me too! While the scale might not be your friend right now, the internet certainly CAN be. I read a ridiculous amount before and still after the surgery, looking for comfort that what was going on- from that post surgery weight GAIN to the hideous "gurgly gut" that plagued me for about a week- was normal. Keep your chin up, my friend. It will get better and the weight will come off.

    Family Support

I've been stalking this forum for over a year now, and appreciate all the advice and support you've provided on here. I've recently made the decision to go forward with the Lap Band and could not be more pleased and confident in my decision. The only thing holding me back at this point is support (financial and emotional) from my family. I will be a self-pay, and I'm 95% certain I want to go with Dr. John Weaver in CO. Unfortunately, I was not able to qualify for enough CareCredit on my own, and asked my father to jointly apply with me, and we qualified for enough to cover the costs (WOOHOO!!). The caveat is, he will only allow me to use the CareCredit if my mother supports the decision. About a year ago, I brought up the idea of a Lap Band with my parents, and they were extremely against the idea. My mom was angry and said I just needed to do things that I'm sure we're all sick of hearing- join WW, talk to a dietitian, exercise more.... the whole gamut of things that obviously never worked. I know a lot of it is probably fear of going into surgery. After a year of research and more weight gain, I am sure this is what I need. However, I am afraid to bring it up to my mother as the whole procedure depends on her support, and I really need and want that support. I'm a single, 26 year old female. I know this probably sounds silly, considering my age, but without them I have no way of affording the procedure. Plus, I really don't want to go through this alone, and would love so much for them to be on board and cheerlead me on! Has anyone been in a similar situation with parents, spouses, or loved ones? How did you tell/convince them this was the right thing and that it just wasn't going to happen through normal diet and exercise?

    Feeling like a failure

I am amazed at the fact that people can survive these pre op liquid diets and thankful it wasn't required of me ! As for the weekend, it's over now and time to get back on your program. I sAy this after two days of eating my daughter's Halloween candy( and subsequent 2 pound weight gain this morning) I have put on my walking shoes, ignoring the candy and starting over You've got this Susan
  7. @@Comfy_Blue I also got all those comments, and more. How I responded depended on who was asking. I worked at the same place for 30 years, since I was a teen. They saw me go from a cute young thing to an old, fat woman. They never commented to my face negatively about my weight gain, and I think the comments and questions were born out of two reasons: 1)Genuine happiness for me, and/or 2) They wanted to know what my magic bullet was. Even my non work friends, who mostly are thin or at least not very overweight (but work at not getting huge), wanted to know what I was doing. I told the people I was closest to that I had WLS, and the not the others. In both cases, I was forthcoming about my diet and exercise. I think it's funny, because there was always a little disappointment when they learned (in both cases) that it was still just diet and exercise, lol. It is not socially acceptable for people to ask why we are so fat, but it seems once we start losing, all bets are off. It's just the way society is, and I think it's probably because losing weight is "better", ergo, a compliment to mention it. Right or wrong, I think it's a cultural thing.

Concerns about keeping the weight off!

You are doing the exact right things! You are noticing the little weight gain and trying to figure out what to with that....I don't know about you, but I rarely did that when I was 200+ lbs.....I just thought it was a lb or two, and I did that every year for 25 years, so 50 lbs later (on top of being a heavy to begin with got me to 223). Thin people have a little fun, indulge a little bit like we do as veterans, but like them, we must say....whoa boy, a couple of lbs; I need to cut back for a few days or work out a little harder at the gym and get them off. For me, I do the 5:2 fasting (basically you eat 500 calories or less 2 days a week). But when I don't do that, I at least do two days a week where I call it my NO COOKIE, NO WINE DAY). Don't freak out....just try to think like a thin person; and you are! You will be just fine. Don't go back....that other place 2 years ago was not fun....I don't know you, but I know it wasn't fun. You may want to read my last post on my blog to help inspire you to move forward. I have gotten lots of comments from people that have told me it was very encouraging to them. Just click on the link below and good luck!

    anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?

Mine asked what I was doing and why I was doing it. How does my family and spouse feel about it. Will there be jealousy or a chance of infidelity( yes, he asked that). Also what led to my weight gain. Did I feel like I couldn't control myself or was addicted to food.

Can I just say that I know my program espouses low fat/fat free, but I do not count fat at all. AT ALL. You need a bit of fat for satiety. As a Type II diabetic my focus is trying to keep as low carb as possible (although now I'm oddly not sensitive to them anymore - and my A1C is 5.5%, which is totally normal. But I still focus on trying to keep under a certain amount of carbs per meal/snack). So having said that, I know if my Protein is high and carbs are low, fat is going to shake out somewhere in the middle. My personal take is that fat is not the enemy and does not cause weight gain like carbs do. Also, I don't want to start a debate or raise anyone's hackles or anything. But you can totally be really successful eating a moderate amount of fat in your diet.
  11. Hi, I had my Gastic Sleeve 30/6/2011, was pregnant 6 weeks later and had a beautiful baby boy. Lost weight throughout, baby fine and both of us apparently healthy. In March 2013 I was done to 67kg, from 118kg and discovered I had Colan Cancer. Since then I have had surgery, Chemo and am now tumor free. There is a 15-20% chance of it returning, and if it does then it will be terminal. But my old "friend" weight gain is back and biting me hard, I have gained a lot and am back up to 83kg, and NOT happy. That said my motivation is low, self loathing high. If only loathing = action! I know I am eating too many carbs, sugar craving is high. Salads are perfect content, size is massive. I have had every test under the sun ( they keep looking for cancer ) and this includes a gastroscopy and lucky for me I have not stretched my stomach. Thoughts about a good diet to get back on track? I am eating my emotions, was drinking too much alcoal as a stress reliver and could certainly do to cut that out/back. Excersize has never featured in my weight loss to date. My surgeon and I spoke last week and is not concerned about the re-gain, but I have kep a food journal and am meeting with his dietician in a couple of days.

    February 2014 bandsters?

Hi to all February banders! My surgery was February 24. Down 82 pounds so far! 25 to go. Weight loss lately is only a pound a week at this stage of my journey. Even had a few weeks where no weight loss but no weight gain either. Challenge will be the winter months. Do a lot more sitting around in the evenings. A big incentive is my daughter is getting married in August so want to be looking good for that. My Dr. Says I am doing great, hope it continues
  13. I have been trying to lose weight for a couple of years now. I graduated from high school in 2010 after enduring years of teasing because of my weight. I never knew what was wrong with me. About a year and a half ago, I found out that my hormones were out of whack, which caused an excessive amount of weight gain over the years. The more I tried to get healthy, the more weight I gained. I finally broke down and made an appointment with a bariatric surgeon after my PCP mentioned WLS to me. It was the best decision I've ever made! The straw that broke the camel's back was my little cousin. She's four years old. One day, she looked at me and said: "cousin, why are you so big?" I was taken aback. I know that she's young and genuinely curious, but her question was shocking nonetheless. I told her that I was big because my body was weird and broken. You know what she said to me? She said: "cousin, you have to fix your body so you won't be so big anymore, okay?" I just looked at her and smiled. Out of the mouths of babes, right? I decided to heed to the advice of a four year old. That little girl is my world and I don't want to let her down by dying an early death because I didn't get my weight under control. It's time for a change. I'm ready for change. I'm looking forward to my journey.
  14. Just wanted to chime in about weight gain/weight loss since being sleeved. I was sleeved April 2013 (now over a year and a half out) and I'm still losing slowly but surely. I started at 306.5. Currently at 200 lbs. I'm 5'7", 28 years old, wearing L shirts and size 12 pants are getting big. I don't drink soda (never ever -- people that say "oh I leave it out and let it go flat first"-- that's stupid, I'm sorry. Don't do it), I get my water in, I'm not great with vitamins but my bloodwork looks great so I'm not worried about it (although I do keep up with my calcium and D3), and I try to eat balanced meals (not ALL protein, but a healthy balance while still focusing on that protein). I've had small fluctuations in weight along the way (a couple pounds here and there) and I don't always make the best choices as far as food goes, but you've just got to put everything in perspective -- if you've made it to a certain pant size, do you really want to go back up in size? You've gone through a major surgery and major lifestyle change for this weight loss -- do you really want to throw that away? Hang in there, if you're in the first six months or year DO NOT STRESS about any fluctuations, your body is just trying to figure out what's going on. You'll be fine, just follow your surgeon's plan and get that water in!
  15. Thanks for your thoughtful replies. I am trying to figure out how to tackle the weight gain...I only lost 30 lbs after the sleeve (a huge disappointment for me), have gained almost all of it back. My Breakfast almost never varies, 1/2 cup greek yogurt with 1/4 cup granola and 1/2 cup of fruit; then a low fat cheese stick or 1/4 cup of nuts two hours later, then 1/2 of a sandwich or a salad, then veggies or a piece of fruit for a snack, then dinner is at 5:30 - which I'm still happy to say is very much limited in portion compared to pre-surgery. I am horrible at night though, from 7 on I'm snacking on something...1 cup of tortilla chips and salsa w/protein or pretzels w/peanut butter, or Protein drinks. I'm going to at least try and stop the night Snacks...they seem superfluous and a hold over from when I wasn't eating much and needed extra protein. It is never hard for me to get Water in now that I'm two years out. I've always loved the taste of cold water and plan to try and add that for the night snacking I've gotten used to. I appreciate all the reminders of how hard it really is to do this every moment of every day. I was so hoping the struggle would diminish...but it is just as fierce as it always has been and will likely be until I leave the earth. Let me don my armor and sword!!!!

    What are possible complications?

That area is where the terminal part of your large intestine is located. With the weight gain and pain in that area, could you be constipated?

    Gained 20 pounds

My Np told me weight gain bump was normal. I too gained but found out I got gerd etc. it explains my situation. Plus not getting the protein and water for me. I was Thinking that I was always hungry as well. I got a ppi Like nexium. Etc.
  18. Hi I'm in the same situation. Weight gain Gerd. So I understand the why to some of my own questions, after I had Test done. Now I am looking into revision to. Not sure. Good luck Lisa
  19. Thanks for the responses. I am going to take said advice (as it confirms what I was thinking) and have a very slight unfill. Perhaps 0.2 or 0.3. I am terrified as I have have been so tight for so long, that a newfound openness will cause weight gain, etc. but I am hoping that by being better able to eat more balanced, that it will be ok...... Appt for nov 24. Thanks again.
  20. I also take seroquel....and Wellbutrin....and like 6 other medications...my regular doctor swears that none of my medicines have had anything to do with my rapid weight gain....yeah, right!

Taking my band out for lunch....

Sigh...you know the band is the band but sometimes it's too easy to beat the band! It does not go around my head and in my case that is the BIG problem!! I have to tell you yesterday, it was not the best day. I was distracted and frustrated and I could go on about my "feelings" but the biggest part of it was that I was distracted and frustrated. So during the day, I puttered around and did not eat well. I had a Protein bar mid-morning and some sting cheese and junk. I was wallowing...and whining and there was nothing around that I really "wanted" to eat but my body kept calling for "food" yes of course it did I haven't been putting in very nutritious fuel the last few days if I put in anything at all so I'm running on empty and filling the tank with coffee and sugar. I know so bad..... Last night I had 4 Wendy's chicken nuggets, and that was the extent of protein or solid "food" if you can call it that...so now it's time for bed. I have a headache I'm exhausted mentally feeling fried yet my brain will not power down to rest. It's rambling kind of like this post is ...and all I could think is that I AM HUNGRY. I don't think I was, I had a Protein Bar....and that nagging was still there. I wanted something sweet and then something salty and then I wanted some shrimp hello it's 12am and 5 am comes fast what the heck am I doing thinking about seafood?! So yeah, I finally went to sleep and woke up in a mad rush over tired and irritated. It's great to not sit down and drown in food, but that was never really my issue to begin with. My issue is just as I described above...distraction forgetting to make those bites count with food that's worthy of eating!! This is a bad cycle to get caught up in for me, because it just perpetuates the issue. Round and round it goes until I crash and it's not just about the weight gain or loss for me. It's about my health, and that's what ends up taking the hit. OK so I'll make it a better day today, though it has not started out that way....perhaps some shrimp for lunch though....

    What’s Your Halloween Plan?

@@BigGirlPanties I really like that idea, and might do it, too. I have not bought any candy, because I don't want it in the house until the last minute. Before I was sleeved, I would buy it "for the kids" and have to keep rebuyng it until Halloween. Even now, I don't think I would stop at just one, and so was thinking about just skipping it all together, though I don't want to be a Halloween scrooge, lol. Most sugary carbs have the ability to send me into a downward spiral that just makes me mad at myself, so eating them isn't worth the subsequent weight gain and irritation from losing control.
  23. I lost 16 pounds in my first 8 days after surgery, then I weighed in again today (13 days out) and I've gained a pound! What the heck!
  24. Sooooo it's been a long road, I have lost weight gained it and then finally decided to get the sleeve, I am extremely nervous, I've never had surgery before so the feeling of not having control of my body is freakin me out!!! But I trust everything will come out well and im excited! I read on some forums that most had to do a 2 week liquid diet, my surgeon only advised me to do a liquid diet the day before I hope all will be well! But tomorrow 730am is the time!!! ???????????????? I look forward to starting a healthy lifestyle as a new sleever!! ✊

    Preparing pre surgery

2new, I am in your boat except I will say this stay away from the special K, and a lot of Protein drinks, they have tons of sugar which will just make you GAIN weight not lose it. Many many protein powders and drinks are designed for weight gain not weight loss. Just because it is whey isolate doesn't mean its for you. Also gummy Vitamins are almost all loaded in sugar, look more for the chewables, there are several that have the calcium in them and Iron as well, and that dissolve fast. For some taste tests you can if you wish check out my blog, I video tape all the products I am trying and ive tried many of them, and add at least 4 taste test per week, in video form. I also have a bunch of products coming from a company that saw my blog and wants me to taste test their products, I get no money at all here, I am actually making this blog into an ebook 1 year post surgery as an adjunct to help men get past the stigma of bariatric surgery. if you are interested it is at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com
