  1. My new surgeon to be, did my endoscopy yesterday and said my sleeve is dilated and has a bulge, he said it's not my fault, the sleeve was too big to begin with..causing weight loss failure. He advised that it could be revised with no issues. Now I have to wait and find out if my insurance will approve, since I have no bariatric benefits. I am so frustrated...

    DC/MD/VA sleevers

Hey everyone. I'm soon to be revised from lapband to sleeve and I'm in PG county. Surgery being done by Dr. Salameh at Virginia Hospital Center. Would love to interact with some other weight loss surgery peeps for support in the DMV area. You can contact me here or directly poohressa@gmail.com

It's here! It came! It went. Hm.

Hi Cathy, First off congrats on your smooth recovery from your sleeve surgery. I've heard lots if revision patients say that it's such an easy transition that they almost feel nothing had been done. But the feeling of blah can get us all in the first month. Oh and I moved this thread to the "band to sleeve revision" section so it can be seen and answered by fellow former lap-banders

It's here! It came! It went. Hm.

DG, you may not know this but reading your post has brought me peace being a former lapbander soon to be revised. Knowing ahead of time about the blahs will help me when that stage comes around. Congrats on your sucess too.
  5. I had the lap band July 2010 lost only 16 pounds, Lap band was removed Oct 2012. Had the sleeve done Nov 2012, lost 24 lbs only, weight is currently 228. I now have an appointment with a new surgeon to consider revision. I don't know which procedure he will recommend. I am still a diabetic with hypothyroidism. Frustrated, I think I made the wrong decision two times. Was it the surgeon that did both of my surgeries? Is it me? Am I destined not to loose weight? Thanks for your support.

    Where is your port?

Mine is below my right breast and about two inches down. Right now, the darn thing is flipped and I have to go for port revision, but this surgery is still worth it!

    slippage

Ok this is the story, I am three years out and I have lost 80lbs.I have had one fill six weeks after surgery and a complete unfill two months ago. My current weight is 155. I have a slipped band and I will require surgery soon. I am a self pay and I have not even paid off my last surgery yet. My husband will probably divorce me because we can’t afford another surgery. My band was completely fool proof until three months ago. I loved it, after four or five ounces of food I felt like I had eaten a thanksgiving dinner. Occasionally, I would overeat, eat to fast or be too hungry, the result was vomiting. People call it purbing, “productive burping.” Perbing is the dirty little secret of having a Lap-band. Perbing is vomiting and ultimately it can cause a prolapsed stomach. After a bout of what I thought was stomach flu, I vomited more than usual. The symptoms were the onset of reflux, stomach pain and more vomiting. The night time reflux became so bad that I aspirated and contracted pneumonia. I have been on anti-biotics, Nexium and Carafate. I now have ulcers and my barium upper GI showed that I am damaging my esophageal sphincter. I had an endoscope under fluoroscope and the bottom line is I have to have surgery and have my band fixed, revised or removed. I have an appointment with my original surgeon on Friday. I am not sure how this will all turn out but I want others to be aware that you can slip your band years later, after no problems and a good weight loss. I you eat until you vomit, you are eating too fast or too much. I have pretty good insurance, but they will not cover the Lap-band. If I have any more complications with my second surgery I will be bankrupt. I never considered these possibilities when I had my initial surgery. Would I have the LAP-BAND surgery knowing what I know now? Yes, absolutely I would have the surgery again. I love the result, losing this much weight has changed my life. I will figure it out, I will figure out how to pay for it, my husband will not divorce me. I will keep you all posted…….Jennifer
  8. I can’t testify to the results but I personally chose from Band to RNY , I have Esophagitis, GERD and a port leak , I didn’t want to take a baby step and then have to do another revision ( if that was possible ) in the future .
  9. Was this your first WLS or were you a revision? Are you getting in your Protein and fluids?
  10. Under the premise that the most important component of your car is the nut holding the steering wheel, I don't have a real preference; it's a tool and the most important part is still what's between the surgeon's ears. The doc who adopted our local support group, one who is well regarded for doing complex revisions, has mentioned that he has no real preference to them - he uses them if the hospital he is at has it and it is available, but he isn't specifically scheduling himself around it. My real concern is would the robot help a surgeon who is low on the learning curve, say on doing sleeves, be less likely to make a sleeve with a stricture? Or if the surgeon is one who is apprehensive about working around a fatty liver be less likely to close up and send the patient home without completing the job?

    Toothdoc's Journey

I had a revision from band 2/11...so far I haven't felt hungry. By day 7 with the band I was ravenous!!! (If I get queasy it means i waited too long to eat so basically every 2-3 hours I have a little something so I don't get queasy). I haven't really felt full but after 4-5 bites but just don't feel like eating any more so i am assuming that's full....I lost 14 lbs the 2 weeks pre-op and 10 in the 3 weeks post-op...I'm not blowing the scales up like a lot of folks around here but am steady at 3 pounds a week.... I'll take 3 pounds a week and not starving any day!!! Good luck!!!! (I've also went back to work part time on day 10 post op then full time on day 15....it's been a great recovery other than fatigue) HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 231.4

    FEBRUARY 2020 Surgery dates🌹❤️

Any surgery makes me a little nervous. I think this one is making me nervous because it's a second revision and I think it's a lot more complicated than the others.
  16. I was just sleeved on 1/21/13, revision surgery from the band, I was banded on 3/5/07. I weighed 159 the day of surgery. Today I weighed in at 154.6, 8 days post op. Cant wait to reach my goal of 125!
  17. Wow Mzlory, u wrote my whole story! lol! I also was banded, got down to 155-160. I did great up untill 4 months ago. I started to gain and wasnt sure why? Docotor orded an upper GI and yes my band slipped! I had my revision from band to sleeve on Aug 16th at 182, and as of today i have lost 12lbs. My doctor is also not too strick about my diet, he just said to take it slow and to really listen to what my body likes and dislikes.
  18. So, I have a revision scheduled with Dr. Kelly for January but am also considering Dr. Aceves. My story is a little different being that I have an older non-adjustable band called the Molina band (I have other posts on here about that) but here is where I need your input... I have read all your posts on the two docs (and they both sound equally awesome and competent) but am confused on the pricing difference between the two?? Dr. K is almost $5k cheaper than Dr. Aceves for a revision surgery. Does anyone happen to know why? Thoughts? My husband is questioning this mostly and asked me to post and see what everyone has to say about this. Thanks!!!!
  19. Rev Me Up!

    Dr. Kelly vs. Dr. Aceves

I chose Dr Aceves because I was a band to sleeve revision and he was the highest recommended by far on either side of the border. It is hard to compare since none of us went to both doctors. I know that Dr Aceves works out of a real hospital - complete with an emergency room, trauma center, other types of patients, etc. You stay all nights in the hospital rather than a house with nurses (not sure what Dr Kelly's post op set up is?). You are not discharged from the hospital until you pass all the leak tests and perform some necessary biological functions. He has had a lot of experience with the revision - that is what sold me. If I was not a revision, I may have considered someone else. You will find that each patient is passionate about their own doctor, no matter who he/she is. We all feel like we made the right choice for us and people get a little territorial about it. All I can say for my experience is that it was better than any US surgery experience I have ever had. I felt well cared for and I have had no complications as a result of the surgery. Good luck with your decision and surgery!
  20. Had my RNY in 2008 but looking to have a revision in January. Had my original in NC Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Laughing at myself

Hi Lara! Welcome! I don't think you're alone in feeling nervous -- having had surgeries myself prior to my sleeve, I too was nervous. Some other really active posters here that have had the revision are Tiffykins and LilMissDiva -- I know I'm forgetting some, but they're very helpful about revisions Good luck to you on your surgery -- I know it will go great!

  23. Hi! About 12 years ago I had the lap band. I started at about 280 lbs and got down to 200 lbs but now I’m back to about 240 lbs (I should be around 140 lbs). I have terrible reflux, morning bile in my throat, and vomiting multiple times a week. I found a great revision doctor and he has approved me for revision to gastric bypass. I’m going in on 4/23 to make sure my band has slipped so that insurance pays. But regardless (I will self pay at this point- even if I have to sell plasma), I’m having the bypass and I’m so excited. Any one out there that can give me some good advice? What to expect? I appreciate any guidance!! Thank you so much! 💜

    November surgeries?

Did your surgeon's office/nutritionist give you a list? My nutritionist gave me a 3 page handout on the 2 week diet I am supposed to be on before surgery. It's basically like a revised Atkins diet. I know for the ketotic diet they have me going on I choose 4 proteins and 1 fat for breakfast. 5 proteins and 1 fat for lunch. 6 proteins and 1 fat for dinner. I also have "free foods" so I'm supposed to add "leafy greens" or "greens" to every meal that I can have an unlimited amount of. I can choose 1 carb per day. I know each is different for everyone but I think this is a pretty typical pre-surg diet.

    February 2021 bypassers?

@DeonneG I had my gastric bypass on 2/24. I too am a revision...kinda. I was one of the first people to undergo lap band surgery in 2003. My band slipped and I had to have it removed 13years later. I think I was slightly traumatized by my band slipping and all the medical issues and hospitalizations that ensued (but that’s a story for another day). I had met my weight loss goals and was falsely confident that I could keep the weight off without any wls tools. Flash forward 5 years and too many diets to count here I am at my highest weight ever. I’d love for us to share ideas, recipes and experiences! ❤️ So far I’ve been living off of Premier Protein shakes, Unjury protein broth and crystal light. I have had no restriction and no discomfort when I eat so I was just given the go ahead to advance to non clear liquids. My doc also told me to give a soft scrambled egg a try. Last night my friend dropped off a puréed lobster bisque. I strained it and drank 1/2 cup. It was divine!!! Still no restriction, never felt full. I felt like I could’ve had 2 bowls without my new stomach speaking up but I stopped on my own. I’m starting to worry that the lack of restriction and a very crappy metabolism are going to impact my weight loss. Patience has ever been a strength of mine 😏
