what you know before vs. after lap band
lindas0809 replied to ainnjay's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Angie, Yes I think traditionally the 6 mini meals is regarded as a good way to safely diet, but lap-band does have it's own rules for a reason. Although after surgery before you get restriction (bandster hell) my surgeon did recommend mini meals if needed. I'm at a point that I have good restriction and eat about 1/2 cup to cup of food per meal (not a 1/4 cup). Typically most people eat between 1000-1300 calories a day with the band. There all times when we all reach plateaus, but I've been banded for almost 7 months and have had consistent weight loss (about 2.5 pounds a week). Right now I can't really give you a lot of drawbacks. I've had great weight loss yet I'm still able to eat most foods. For me this has been great because I don't feel deprived like I would on a diet. Do your research and ask you Dr. all those questions - they are good ones. Good luck with your decision! -
Hi all, I was banded in 2007 and have not done well with weight loss. I have found a new physician for my aftercare education and fills and am hoping to still make this work for me. He suggested this forum for support and education. I am sure hoping to find it here.

Officially hit the 100 pound weight loss mark this morning! Couple this with fitting into a size 13 JUNIORS yesterday, I'm one pretty stoked lady! Started pre-op diet at 257 at the beginning of August, had surgery 9/25/12 at 237 got on the scale this morning at 157! Surgeons office scale has slightly different numbers but I go off my own scale. Six more to go to surgeons goal, nine more to mine. Had six month post op appt last Friday and was told again I am doing as well as a by-pass patient. Now comes the hard part of hitting goal and surviving summer vacation (I'm a teacher) including three weeks in Wildwood (beach in NJ) and a short cruise in August. Bathing suit and clothes shopping has been so much fun! Best thing I've ever done for myself!

Barisaxylady 100 lbs loss!!!!! best thing i've ever done for myself!!! "you" look great, inspiring, wonderful et al ya da ya da ya da!!! thats all i ever hear!!!! good reason, its alllll true gotcha did you really think i was "yelling"?? you have done terrific worried about maintaining et al??? (understandable, common concern) the day i/you/we stop worrying about eating/drinking properly IMO is the day we get in trouble!!! you just must keep doing what you have been doing being successful with your Water, Protein, eating slowly - you know the drill i'm sure that after all the hard work you've done these past 6 months - you are not gonna mess up now eating a "couple" of things you wouldn't normally eat, couple things not totally Kosher - welllll....on a vaca you have a "little" room to maybe "explore" - but do your best not to stray "too much" but i know you wouldn't dare overdue - you've come too far - and you are lookin' HOT!!! back from vaca, get totally back to normal - you'll be great!!! we are "told" how much money we will save on not eating out often but we are now spending our "savings" with shopping!!! oh well its a dirty job but...... have fun buying your swimming suits, other clothes for your great trip btw - if you have some extra space in your suitcase for a friend??? I don't take up much room congrats girlfriend

I hear your frustration. I'm currently waiting to hear if I got my insurance approval too, and I can only imagine how I would feel if I got denied. And to get denied by mistake, as it sounds like you were, would make me pull out my hair! Hang in there, I've seen many cases of appeals being successful.

Wedding dress shopping after VSG
Feeling Free replied to wanttobeamoore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on the weight loss and the upcoming marriage. I think it is too soon to purchase a dress because you are still losing. I do think that it will not hurt to go "looking" that way you can see what's out there and pick a style you may like. If you have a style you may like, then it may be easier to find a dress to purchase with so little time left depending on how long you wait to purchase. -
Ok waiting in the waiting room today was nerve racking for me. My leg was shaking in the waiting room and that NEVER happens to me. I met with the Insurance Coordinator who thanked me for faxing my letter of med necessity and 6 months of weight loss with Dr ahead of this visit. My next appt is 9/20 w/ Dr Ache (this is when I get my surgery dated. and then 9/23 with dietician and Psych

I have had a hard time with my "surgery coordinator" ever since I completed my 3 month weight loss. She misinformed me about seening another person in the office prior to being submited to the "Board" for approval so I had to hurry and see her then get the approval from the "Board" and see the dr one day and have my EGD the next. I explained to my Dr and his NP and everyone in the office my need to complete the surgery by Aug 14th due to my starting back to school so I can keep my current position at my job... sad thing is I work for the same hospital system that is doing my surgery...and that owns my Dr's office!!! I had to beg her to submit everything to my Tricare last Thursday, she did it. They sent back yesterday and said the only thing they need to complete the approval is the actual dates of surgery/admission...which should be next MONDAY Aug 13th!! But she hasnt submitted it to them as of now....and I still have 2 office visits to get in and a hospital preop to do... I've been telling them for 4 and a half months my "deadline" and they've all agreed it could be done.... Now I dont know what to do??? I called her this morning...but she hasnt returned the call... should I call the office manager?? or keep calling her?? I am afraid this one butt is going to cause a big screw up for me!!!!

The thing is I'm sure we have all had weight loss success before. We've all been on diets that worked for a time but then we gain it all back. I known that i have had many times where I would drop 50lbs....but a few months later i gain it back and then some. Do yu truly think thst you can make a lifelong change and stik to it without the assistance of the surgery? I would say go to your consultation and talk to them. If it's your first visit you're likely not getting a date right away. Go to a couple of appontmenta. Set a date if they give you one. You can always cancel it later

How many calories are you getting? Most Docs recommend around 1000 a day. Do you exercise? You absolutely must get you water and protein in. I do best with 70+ grams of protein and around 100 oz of water. Keep in mind that you have less to loose than some of us so you loss may be slower. You've lost almost 1/4 of your weight I. 3 mos. If you can keep that up you should be fine.

I have a friend that went through this. My Drs. said hair loss can happen when we don't get enough Protein and Water. Sounds good to me. I drink water like a wild man and protein is not a problem either so hopefully no hair loss.

I also started hair loss!! I started to take a prenatal vitamin and that helped it alot!!

Gained 2 lbs......very discouraging

Normal. Water retention, time of the month, muscle mass, bad time of day, leg hair too long, something stuck in your teeth... Don't fret it. It happens. -
Gained 2 lbs......very discouraging

Should probably go for the full Brazilian too... just to be on the safe side... Bum hair is weighty. -
Well I was sleeved on 3/31 and in the first eight or nine days lost about 13 pounds, then had a stall for about 3 weeks then lost about 3 pounds and am now the same weight for the past week. Going up and down the same pound. 30 lbs is a great loss in the first month!!! Keep up the great work and dont get discouraged by the stalls. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

To lose a lot of weight in the 1st month and then stall is normal. Your body has a memory and it thinks something is wrong and is trying to stay at your previous weight. Just stick with it, don't over due it, and the weight will start coming off. I myself have very very slow weight loss. only about a pound per week. but the doc says that is a healthy way to lose. Good luck. You got this!

Find out what your insurance requires. Some insurances don't require monitored weight loss, but most do. From 3 months-1 year. Some insurances that don't require the monthly weight loss instead have a percentage you have to lose to be approved (though some of the monitored weight loss insurances have this too). My insurance was different then yours and it required a 6 month monitored weight loss program, but did not have a requirement to lose weight (you just couldn't GAIN weight). You can actually generally ask the insurance coordinator at the bariatric office what your insurance requires if you don't want to call your insurance yourself. After they send the paperwork in to the insurance it takes 2-3 weeks to approve and then they'll give you a surgery date. So really it depends on 1. your insurance, and 2. how long they're scheduled out for (because I got approved at the end of November 2019, but my surgery was scheduled 2 months later on January 23 2020. So my wait from my first bariatric consultation until surgery was 8 months). The time actually goes by pretty fast. Or, at least it did for me. I ended up losing 68 pounds in that 8 month period so... I was productive lol.

Hello! I've been researching information about the lap-band and feel very strongly about having the procedure done. I'm 32 yrs old, 4'11 and weigh 220 lbs, this is a lot of weight especially for my height!!! I haven't always been overweight, it seems after the birth of my daughter 12 yrs ago, the weight kept piling on. I've tried several diets and even taken pills to loss the weight but i would only drop about 10 lbs average. I know some of you can relate but I'm really ready for a change and hopefully become successful in achieving my goal....................
